Re this edit, you replaced numbers that had a reference (of the total number anyway) with unreferenced numbers. Could you please provide a reference for these new numbers. Thanks, Finn Rindahl (talk) 23:01, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I did some searching - and the closest thing I come to a reliable source about the numbers is the annals of Ulster who speaks og 6.000 dead (on the Leinster-side, presumably) entry 1014.2. So it seems your numbers are just as good as anyones. The article needs a lot of fixing, but I'm not going to touch it. Gwyn Jones stated that "‘Clontarf was too important to be left to the historians, so passed into the legendmaker’s hand’", alas - I believe that is true at wikipedia as well. Too much of the content of that article is based on legendary stuff instead of historical analysis, and I would not know where to begin clearing it up. If you do want to work on that article, this might be of help Dowham, The Battle of Clontarf in Irish History and Legend, Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 22:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
