Not a problem: noun modifying noun (called apposition) is perfectly grammatical and very, very common in English: car key, concert hall, desktop computer, and on and on. On the other hand, very many women find the term female whatever-it-is offensive. And both your sources have "woman member". Why not go by them? (Just so you know, my study of linguistics was up to the Master's level, and I taught grammar at the university level for nearly forty years). Awien (talk) 23:13, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

You made your point at the talk page. Regarding fixing the hook, we are mere hours from it appearing on the main page and it requires a lengthy process to fix. As for the article, feel free to change the "offensive" entry yourself. However, after having a half-dozen DYKs approved, I myself will be upset if changing it in the article gets it removed from the DYK. But, in hindsight, I should've worded it as did with Jean Giambrone: "one of the first women to become a member". — Wyliepedia 00:23, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough in the circumstances to let the hook stand (and there's surely no reason a change to the article would get the hook removed from the queue?). Unfortunately, academics, professionals, and experts as a whole are conspicuous by their absence on Wikipedia, as also are women as a whole, so if no women doctors or women judges are around to react doesn't mean they wouldn't if you called them female whatever-it-is.

I quoted William Safire above as saying "feminists everywhere have begun to turn on the word female", but he's only partly right. What's true is that feminists are against the word female, but that isn't a new phenomenon. Throughout the 20th century, the preferred and most commonly accepted modifier was "woman", see [1] for example, and what we are reacting to now is the sudden explosive rise in the use of the deplorable "female".

Episode titles for AHS: Coven

You mentioned in a recent edit you doubted that the source for eps. 2-5 for Coven were legit. I also have my concerns. The article actually mentions SpoilerTV as their source, so I'm thinking it's dubious. Should they be removed? -- SchrutedIt08 (talk) 11:37, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for stopping by. I mentioned IBT as a source on Coven's talkpage. They use outside sources all the time. Am surprised they don't cite Wikipedia! That's my first problem with them. In this instance, IBT says "SpoilerTV is reporting via FoxFast.com..." FoxFast is reliable in itself and should be our source, but lately requires registration to see it, if memory serves. Agreed. FoxFast is a reliable source, except that it's no longer open to the public, so the average editor has no way of verifying the information. It sucks, but we gotta follow the rules, right? If a third party publisher is using places like SpoilerTV and IMDb as sources without checking out the information for themselves, then I've got to question their legitimacy. Larry Lujack

Hi,

Thanks for reorganizing the Larry Lujack Page. It think it is much easier to read now than before. I still think there's some problems related to WP:SURNAME since sometimes he referred to by his first name, sometimes by his last name, and sometime by both names. I think only his family name is supposed to be used after the first "Larry Lujack" unless he's being referred to in a direct quote. What do you think?

Finally, the part about his love of golf and being a good guy seems pretty anecdotal so not sure if it belongs. Maybe it needs to be rewritten? Not sure. Marchjuly (talk) 06:18, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
