This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, Catsquisher, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

Please choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. However, do not create a new account if you wish to credit your existing contributions to a new name through a username change. To request a username change:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to edit this talk page even though you are blocked. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a list of names that have already been taken. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.

{{[[Template:My username is intended to be catchy and humorous. It is neither profane nor obscene, though I grant that those are highly subjective attributes. Nor does it attack another, though I have on occasion unintentially stepped on my cat's tail. I am not trying to impersonate another, do not edit under any other names, and am not aware of anyone else using a similar moniker. I use a nickname only to preserve a degree of anonymity. Regarding my intentions on Wikipedia, I would hope that my contributions to numerous articles make those clear (e.g. Blowout preventer, Roller screw and Helical band actuator.) I enjoy Wikipedia as a resource and try and contribute constuctively where I believe I have a degree of expertise. I do not believe my username violates Wiki policy, blatantly or otherwise, thus the validity of the block is not clear to me. I respectfully request that my account be unblocked. If that is not possible, I would appreciate a more thorough explanation for the block than the one given by Toddst1, who, ironically enough, quotes blatant profanity from Dick Cheney on his user page. --Catsquisher (talk) 06:21, 5 August 2010 (UTC).

I chose my username from a nickname given to me years ago by a friend as a term of endearment. Prior to yesterday it had never been accused of being capable of causing offense. I find the categorical comparison below by Toddst1 between my username and "child-molestor" to be an unnecessary and inappropriate use of hyperbole. The other comparisons are also exaggerations, which leads me to believe my username is simply being targeted by an administrator exhibiting an excess of zeal. Like decltype, I would appreciate a third opinion regarding my chosen user name, and request that one be given. --Catsquisher (talk) 17:31, 5 August 2010 (UTC)|My username is intended to be catchy and humorous. Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

per NativeForeigner

Request handled by: Toddst1 (talk)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.

Inclined to grant unblock. Despite my fondness for cats, I do not immediately see how "Catsquisher" is a blatant violation of the username policy. Would appreciate a third opinion. Considering the user's positive contributions, at the very least I think the block should be "reduced" to a {{Uw-ublock}}, allowing the user to be unblocked to file for a username change. Placing the request on hold. decltype (talk) 09:52, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I strongly support the user filing a name change. The user is clearly a good contributor and should be allowed to continue editing under a more constructive name. I should have used {{Uw-ublock}} in the first place and have changed it. My apologies for that.
Regarding the appropriateness of the name, do you think dog-eviscerator or pet-maimer would be apropriate? I think these and Catsquisher are in the category of child-molestor or cross-burner and easily "offend other contributors, making harmonious editing difficult". Toddst1 (talk) 14:26, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I think it's entirely appropriate. It's catsquisher, not cat brain stomper, or cat maimer, or cat killer. I don't think that there is any username vio. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 17:53, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
I've continued this discussion on WP:UAA for broader evaluation. Toddst1 (talk) 04:08, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Need more info on your name[edit]

Please go to [1] and explain exactly what that term "catsquisher" refers to. Your current explanation is inadequate, and looks headed toward it being disallowed. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 17:20, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Your lengthy essay does not answer the basic question. If you expect to keep your username, you should explain what it means. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:16, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe any explanation will save it from appearing offensive on the surface: editors who interact with each other in the normal course of Wikipedia editing shouldn't have to go searching for an explanation/justification for why a user has chosen an offensive username. Taroaldo (talk) 20:24, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Even so, if he provides a satisfactory explanation (which he has yet to do), he might at least have a chance of keeping this seemingly-offensive username. So it comes down to the question of how badly he wants to keep this username. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 20:48, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Since you won't answer the question, I have to assume you're really not very interested in editing wikipedia. Don't be lecturing us about "good faith" when you've got a username that immediately calls to mind images of cats being stomped on. If a user name is offensive to a significant number of editors, then it's not a good username to have. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:30, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry Bugs, but you'll never squish an explanation out of me. --Catsquisher (talk) 17:16, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
BB: assume good faith! Anthony (talk) 17:21, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
What good faith has he demonstrated so far? I'm seeing nothing but trolling behavior from that cat. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 18:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Never mind Baseball Bugs, as you see he sticks his nose where it does not belong, makes insulting comments on the character of others with nothing to back it up, and takes pleasure in stirring up issues that would otherwise not exist. Best to just ignore the likes of him. Lion barmen (talk) 00:00, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
BB contributes, but in a way that's sometimes hard to see. --Catsquisher (talk) 00:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations![edit]

Now for something completely different[edit]

Hi Catsquisher. Excellent work on Fly system! It needs some tweaks here and there, but overall it's been greatly improved.

You seem to be an especially insightful and objective editor and those qualities are needed in every far corner of Wikipedia. I would like to invite you into one of those corners now and ask for any insights and comments you might offer in this discussion thread about dance terminology. It's possible that I'm being too rigorous, but the ambiguous language used in many dance articles strikes me as problematic. Your objectivity and command of the English language would make you a valuable contributor whether or not you are knowledgeable about dance. Thanks! Lambtron (talk) 17:59, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Locking rail.jpg Photo Location[edit]

Hello Catsquisher,

I came across this photo

Locking rail.jpg

and was wondering where it was taken. It looks to me to be very similar to the fly system of a theater I have been in. Thanks!
