Hi, I was the one who made the clumsy move of Laayoune to El-Aaiun. Do you know how to do this in a way so as to preserve the edit history, but still rename the article? Hey. I noticed you have been fixing the links to László Kiss (footballer) contained here, and just realized you have created the article. Guess what: The official FIFA match report says he was a starter! This throws out the main thing for which he is famous (besides fastest hat trick). [edit] ISO 3166-1 alpha-3
I think the question to ask is: why doesn't {{USA}} 'n friends not use the ISO name when they are named after the ISO code? Fix the problem, not the usage, is what I'm really suggesting. Cburnett 19:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Not putting any blame here, but you didn't drop me a question on my talk page (specifically me because I was the sole editor who switched to the flag templates) so I didn't see your comment nor your revision until I went to reference the list today, ergo my question here and now. Which ones were incorrect? I'd hate to see my work reverted because of a few out of the many that were incorrect. Cburnett 19:50, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:SndrAndrss
Hi again. Rather an unusual request; the above named user has edited quite a few articles that you and I are intrerested in. He also edits articles on athletics. Most of his edits are beneficial or harmless, but he has also attracted a few warnings, recently from me, for vandalism, or, let's be charitable and say very careless edits. Will you keep an eye on him (or conceivably her), and let me know if anything looks funny? I don't want to have to block him, and he seems to be doing better, but he is completely non-communicative with other editors, which makes it very hard to gauge his intentions. Thanks. --Guinnog 00:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] link to Bundesliga
Hello, when you want to link to the article about the Bundesliga, please do not link to Bundesliga, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). [edit] Belgian names
After noticing some of your edits on articles I'm watching, I also noticed you sometimes edit articles with the comment: Belgian names capitalize "Van". Could you please give me the source of that knowledge, since it is wrong and should be corrected. The rules are actually as follows in Belgium: the last name of a person is written in the way it appears on their identity card. If that card says George Van Somewhere, then "Van" is always with a capital V, however if it says George van Somewhere, then the v is never capitalized. In the Netherlands, a neighbour country of Belgium, Dutch is also the official language but the rules there are different, there the name is always written with a small v when the first name is mentioned, as in George van Somewhere and G. van Somewhere. However if the first name is not mentioned, then the last name always starts with a capital V, as in Mister Van Somewhere or Dr. Van Somewhere.
An exception to this rule is the french version of "Van" (which actually means "From" in English), which is "De or D'". In Belgium the passport is always checked for the correct spelling, just like the normal case, but in the Netherlands it is always spelled with a small d, even when the first name is not mentioned: Sir de Something or Mr. de Something. The dutch wiki has an article about this, so should you understand it, have a peek here. --Pelotastalk 23:00, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the Radulescu stuff - have you anything AT ALL on Georges Balway / Balvay or Thomas Balway / Balvay? He's the only Frenchman who refereed at the 1930 World Cup.
Hi. I'm having real difficulties with the reference to Thomas Balway the referee. I have linked it via the entry for Jean Langenus, but it appears that the above-named was actually a person called John Balway. I don't know how to change the initial entry : it reads Thomas Balway. Can you help?
Cheers, Steve bloomer.
[edit] 1954 World Cup Final
Not quite sure why the format I typed in that included all of the information regarding the match (i.e. match stats) was converted to what we have now.
I have edited others on the Football (soccer) matches link and would have thought that the format should be uniform on all of them for the purposes of information transfer. Any ideas?

[edit] Akoto in WC squad 2006
Dear Sir,
I have edited "Éric Akoto" in "WC squads 2006" from "Admira/Wacker" to "no club". Some time later you have edited back.
I am from Austria and I know, that the contract between Akoto and Admira/Wacker ended before Christmas 2005. So he hasn't played a single game for Admira/Wacker in 2006.
Akoto was allowed to train with the Austrian club SV Schwechat (play in third highest class), but was not allow to play for them!
In July 2006 he find a new club with Grazer AK.
Thank you and best regards!
[edit] 1954 FIFA World Cup squads#Scotland
Hi there. According to John Rafferty's 100 Years of Scottish Football (Pan, 1973) only 13 players actually travelled to Switzerland in the Scotland squad: Martin, Cunningham, Aird, Docherty, Davidson, Cowie, McKenzie, Fernie, Mochan, Brown, Ormond, Hamilton and Anderson. I wasn't sure what the best way include this information was - to include without a reference, or to input a traditional book reference which might ruin the appearance of the page. Any thoughts? Caledonian Place 13:28, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well it doesn't look as awkward as I thought it might but feel free to adapt it. Caledonian Place 22:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
- Right, this could be tricky. Obviously the eleven who played in both games traveled, while both John Rafferty (who was a journalist at The Scotsman at the time} and Jim Brown agree that Hamilton replaced Johnstone and both also agree that 13 traveled.
-
- Rafferty's book states " (manager) Beattie would only take 13 players to the finals and two of them were goalkeepers." Interestingly, Rafferty doesn't actually state Anderson went; I assumed that from his 2 goalkeepers statement, which may make Brown appear more accurate.
-
- However, Brown states "Players such as George Young were ruled out as Rangers refused permission for any of their players to go to Switzerland as they were required for a club tour of the USA" while Rafferty states that the reason for his non-inclusion was that he was unfit at the original time of selection and that the selectors had decided to stick to one original squad. There are quotations from chief selector Tom Reid, although not specifically about Young, which may suggest Rafferty has greater detail, and as a result, greater knowledge.
-
- It also seams strange that such an experienced player as Bobby Evans would travel and not get a game ahead of relatively inexperienced player like Jimmy Davidson or Doug Cowie, especially after a defeat in the first game.
-
- To be honest, its difficult to tell and probably needs a third source to arbitrate. I will try asking at Scottishleague.net, a great Scottish football historians site. Caledonian Place 13:28, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Brown is right and Rafferty wrong. See here. The user "Scottish" is David Ross, a respected and published Scottish football historian. Will change the article and include the link to the Evening Telegraph. Caledonian Place 14:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1950 Sweden squad
Hi. I noticed that back in September you removed Sven Jonasson and Bengt Berndtsson from the Swedish team. I was wondering what sources you have from which you were able to determine their removal. I cannot seem to find this information. Libro0 21:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi. The reason I left in a lot of names in for the early World Cups was because I was actually doing the reverse, that is looking for a reason/source that they should not be listed. I was trying to make sure that even though a player did not play or even get on the final squad that he was not an alternate or pre-selected and then dropped for some reason. As for the Hungarian player Somlay, User Gabute is tracking down his first name. So that may be a few days. Libro0 00:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ignacio Tréllez (Trelles?)
Hey Chanheigeorge. Great work as usual. I have a question: What prompted you to move this page to the spelling with the accent and "z" at the end? Although I personally agree with it and I think that it is the correct spelling of that name (having Spanish as my first language), his surname is Trelles as far as FIFA and the FEMEXFUT are concerned. Whatever is correct, I feel tempted to include a note in the article about the wrong version being also used. Thanks in advance for your response. --ChaChaFut 03:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Professional level indeed
You have created an article about Edmund Twórz in appalling English. Even if you had copied it from somewhere (which I suspect is not the case, as he is a rather obscure pre-war player), you are bound to correct it. Such behavior might be acceptable to a newbie, but I am dismayed to find it in experienced Wikipedians who claim good or even "professional" knowledge of English. Shame on you!

[edit] Mito as uni town
Hi. Good catch on that one! I hadn't even noticed the categorization. This is definitely NOT a university town! Cheers, from Mito! --RJCraig 02:54, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] University Towns
While I doubt Pretoria can be regarded as a University Town. Bloemfontien probably is. At least to the same extent as Pietermaritzburg, Durham and York the city derives a substantial amount of its existance from the presence of two South African Universities. The citation:
in all cases are so dubbed because the educational institution(s) presence pervades economic and social life. Many local residents may be employed by the university, many businesses cater primarily to the university, and indeed the students population may outnumber the local population outright.
While the gown population does not outnumber the town population at this point the prevailing ethos remains. Paul Hjul 16:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nelson, British Columbia
Why did you place Nelson in the category of University Towns? Have you ever been to Nelson? It is certainly not a University Town. It seems maybe you are running some sort of script to modify this category in several articles and did this one without researching it? Rewand 03:03, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Categories
Hello. Well, it depends. Maybe not. As far as I know cat. Czechoslovak footballers includes only national team players, Soviet one should include such, too. Point is what will happen if such "XY international footballers" would be created. You know, which footballers will be then categorized under "Czechoslovak footballers". I think it is pointless to include there all people born in Czechoslovakia or Soviet Union, respectively, as all contemporary footballers were born there. So I propose cleanup of (mainly the Soviet one) to include only footballers who played for the national team and notice on the top of the category page, that it is designed for inclusion of national team players.
Fact is that most of articles about CS and USSR footballers on Wikipedia, are about footballers who played for the national team. Maybe in the future, when there will be more players from that eras without national team record, then it should be split. - Darwinek 08:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 1950 US squad
Regarding Antonello Valentini: I tried to determine if this was an error. I don't know where Antonello came from but Valentini resembled most closely an Ed Valentine who played for the US at that period. Re Frank Moniz: Like Ed Valentine, Moniz played for the US in that period also but they also both played for Fall River Ponta Delgada. From what I was told there were two tryouts for the 1950 US team. One was St. Louis and the other New York. Those people I am told were at the tryouts and were possibly named as alternates. Between Helmut Demucke, Antonello Valentini, and Frank Moniz only Moniz appears to free of errors. I have not been able to find the other two anywhere. Libro0 21:56, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 00:59, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

So, it seems you're 66% right. I've searched for the official match reports of the three "Youga's games": 16 October 2006 Fulham-Carlton, 24 February 2007 Charlton-West Ham, 18 March 2007 Charlton-Newcastle. As you can see, the first match is missing. Plus, I've found another website who says that Youga played 1 match and was send to Bradford City in January, so he may have played the match vs Fulham... --necronudist 10:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mixed team categories
Hi, do you really think the "mixed team" categories are really necessary? I perceive the "mixed team" designation as a retroactive book-keeping "country code" by the IOC so that medal totals would balance. Certainly those athletes didn't really compete as a team other than with the other partner(s) in their specific events. I think it is a bit of overkill for these categories to exist. Thanks, Andrwsc 00:43, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Andrzej Fischer
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Andrzej Fischer, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Andrzej Fischer seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Andrzej Fischer, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] Regarding criteria for List of foreign Premier League players
Hi! Criteria are criteria...just conventions. I don't agree with you simply 'cause other comparable lists I wrote (Serie A foreigners, Liga foreigners) use my "original" criteria. However, you are doing a great job keeping the page updated and you are de facto mantaining it, so I think you should decide for whatever you think is right! P.S.: I really appreciate your works, expecially the World Cups' squads! They're my passion! I would build up a wiki just for them :-P --necronudist (talk) 22:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I update the Serie A list after every matchday (I'm Italian), and the Liga's list every 6 months, but you're doing a great job with the Premier League list. Plus, I've got a database where I collect World Cup players' infos since...something like 10 years :-) but it's really difficult to find any 1930-1950 infos, 'cause I don't know any research book about that period. I think the only solution is to find newspapers of the period. --necronudist (talk) 09:47, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] January 2008
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Specifically, you copied the contents of Lee R. Martin This is what we call a "cut and paste move," and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. – PeeJay 11:51, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Lee Martin
No, I think it would be best to use Lee Martin (footballer born 1987), Lee Martin (footballer born February 1968) and Lee Martin (footballer born September 1968), since those players aren't commonly known by their full names. – PeeJay 20:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Using "defender" and "goalkeeper" are no good as those positions are not specific to football. Other sports have positions called "defender" and "goalkeeper" too. – PeeJay 22:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I thought I had left those in. I didn't intend to remove all of your edits. I removed the federations as they are all found in the wikilink, and is not really relevant to the article on the World Cup. I removed the stuff about Pele because I felt it was glorifying him aboive other people who have played in 4 world Cups. Whether he should be glorified or not is another question, just not in a neutral encyclopedia article. I hope that clarifies it, and sorry for any offense caused. Hey, I'm impressed by your interest in soccer, but trust me there is a reason why I did not include those two of them in the list. [edit] Speedy deletion of Walter Kollmann
A tag has been placed on Walter Kollmann requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. [edit] Portugal at the 1984 EC
There's much confusion about who was the second goalkeeper for Portugal at the 1984 EC. Many sources say Francisco Silva, many others Jorge Martins. Have you got an "ultimate" source? --necronudist (talk) 09:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- AFAIK UEFA listed only lineups, and Francisco Silva/Jorge Martins didn't play (you can retrieve them playing with the Wayback Machine and Google cache, I checked today morning). My sources are a pair of Portuguese friends and many websites provided by them:
- Vedeta ou Marreta, a complete Benfica blog. In the tag you can find França 84, plus is written Foi um dos escolhidos por Fernando Cabrita, António Morais, Toni e José Augusto para representar Portugal no Europeu de Futebol realizado em França em 1984. (was selected with [...] to represent Portugal in the 1984 European Championship), plus a comment say Ainda foi o terceiro guarda-redes do Euro-84 (he was the third goalkeeper at Euro-84). I've asked the author of the blog and he kindly answered that:
"I believe some sources mistake him for a certain "Francisco Silva" because of an article in wikipedia, but the truth is that there wasn't even then any Francisco Silva playing goalie in the portuguese top league! Incidentally, Jorge Martins, even though he was called for Euro '84 and later Mexico '86, never got a full cap (!)."

I've asked the author of the blog and he kindly answered that:
- In fact, the only Francisco Silva reference my Portuguese friends' found is this: but he retired after 1955-56 season.
- ZeroZero.pt, main Portuguese football website, where you can notice in the right part of the page, at the end of his career, the indication that he took part at 1986 WC and Euro-84.
I'm waiting for a book source from one of my friends, but I think you can easily guess Jorge Martins took part and not "Francisco Silva". :-) --necronudist (talk) 21:40, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help appreciated
Hello. Thank you very much for categorisation of the Olympic sportspeople. Much appreciated. Can you please help me with categorisation of beach volleyball players? See Category:Beach volleyball players and Category:Olympic beach volleyball players. New country-specific categories like e.g. Category:American beach volleyball players should be created as well as similar cats for olympic beach volleyball players. Many such players use just e.g. "American volleyball players" or "Olympic volleyball players of the United States", these cats need to be replaced with proper beach volleyball players categories. Thank you, much appreciated. - Darwinek (talk) 14:35, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Do British Virgin Islands compete at the Olympics? Btw. IOC uses Chinese Taipei name but we have Category:Olympic competitors for Taiwan category. - Darwinek (talk) 09:53, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Right, but using only "Virgin Islands" will spread confusion among editors. I can really imagine people wrongly categorized cause of this. Should we bring it to WPP:Olympics or resolve between the two of us? I think there is no controversy, just a technical issue. - Darwinek (talk) 11:56, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Gintarė Volungevičiūtė
Thanks for adding the medal infobox to the article I started.
How many articles will be listed in Category:Olympic sailors of Lithuania?
--Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 09:17, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- Depends on whether there are more pages of Olympic sailors of Lithuania created. Chanheigeorge (talk) 09:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
-
- I assumed you created the category because you knew of some, or planned to create them. If that is not the case, I think we should merge the category with its parents. It can always be created again once its parent categories become too full. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 09:47, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- If you notice, the category is under both Category:Olympic competitors for Lithuania and Category:Olympic sailors by country. So this way we have a category structure that categorize all the Olympians under both country and sport. So we create a new category even when there is only one page. Chanheigeorge (talk) 09:49, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
-
To me, this seems to be a case of over-categorization, appropriate for large Olympic teams, but not for small ones. Gintarė Volungevičiūtė can simply be in Sailors of Lithuania, Olympic sailors and Olympic athletes of Lithuania. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 09:58, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
The downside, as you said, is that some of these "Olympic (sport competitors) of (country)" is going to be huge while some will only have one page. The upside is that it's structurally consistent this way, so it helps editors correctly categorize the page instantly. Say we do not create "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" and put the page in both "Olympic competitors for Lithuania" and "Olympic sailors". However, over time, two problems will emerge:
- Say 4 years later I create another page of a Lithuanian Olympic sailor. Then I have to check whether "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" has been created yet to determine what categories I have to add to the page. This does not help me editing.
- Say we decide that we create "Olympic sailors of Lithuania" once there are 10 pages. How can I determine that? If I go to "Olympic competitors for Lithuania", I have no idea who is a sailor or not, so I have to click on every single page. If I go to "Olympic sailors", I have no idea who is Lithuanian or not, so I have to click on every single page. So recategorizing the pages are going to waste you a lot of time later.
Believe me, at the beginning of the year the whole categorization situation is quite messy. Even if there are categories such as "Olympic swimmers of the United States", a lot of eligible pages are still in "Olympic competitors for the United States". That's because when people create pages they tend to copy and paste what they see in other pages, so if one page is in the "incorrect" category, soon you will have 10 pages in the "incorrect" category. So we make the effort to put every Olympian under "Olympic (sport competitors) of (country)". Consider the large amount of athlete pages created in the last week, and almost all of them are categorized correctly, I think this scheme has been very successful. Chanheigeorge (talk) 10:36, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- All makes sense. Thanks for the clear explanation: and for your thorough contributions. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 10:49, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Haiti at the 1924 Summer Olympics
Hey, maybe you can help me shed some light on something. I noticed that you created articles for seven shooting medalists for Haiti at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Both Sports Reference and databaseOlympics, however, list only five medalists in that event, the extra two being L. H. Clermont and C. Dupre. My guess is that the latter two were listed as participants, but were either reserves or did not compete for some reason. Do you know/have a source for why this discrepancy exists? [edit] Trevor Cahill
I expanded Trevor Cahill's entry. I'm a little bit of an over protective Dad with the articles I've written, so I hope you don't mind that I did that. I noticed that you wrote entries for a couple of players on the Olympic team. In my opinion, I'd expand them all beyond one sentence if I were you.--Johnny Spasm (talk) 00:20, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Colin Foster
Hello. You created this page as disambiguation, but when I went through it, one of the 2 needed to be deleted as it was a red link with nothing else linked to it (see WP:MOSDAB red links sections if you're interested in the details). With one entry, I changed it to a redirect, but I can see its potentially useful, so thought I'd let you know. That way, if you start a stub on the other footballer, then this could be changed back to a dab. Boleyn (talk) 11:25, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
[edit] JUANFRAN
Hi there GEORGE, VASCO here,
thank you for your help in reverting to the proper national team stats in Juanfran's article. There is a chap who keeps reverting, using ENDLESS anonymous IP, from the proper 11 caps-0 goals, to 13-1. I already told him to please read FOOTBALLDATABASE.COM link and Spanish national team link i named NATIONAL TEAM DATA. Apparently he either does not know English or is just a vandal. Either way it would not surprise me...and the situation is getting a bit annoying.

[edit] New flag templates
Hello Chanheigeorge, I saw your creation of {{flagicon simple}} and {{flag nodata}}, but then subsequently decided to use new country data templates (for the Walloon Region and Flemish Region) to accomplish the task you were looking to solve (which was the right thing to do, in my opinion). Do you still want those two templates, or can we delete them per WP:CSD#G7 with your permission? Thanks — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 19:43, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] World Cup
"...Brazil has...." is correct since the subject is singular ie a single team known as Brazil. "Have" would be correct if the sentence said..."the Brazilians have won......" Will you revert...or should I????--Buster7 (talk) 06:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, the singular or plural debate has been there for a while. People come in and often edit it one way or the other. I'm not an expert, but comparing the two sentences:
- Brazil, the only team to have played in every tournament, have won it a record five times. They are....
- Brazil, the only team to have played in every tournament, has won it a record five times. It is....
The first one seems to be better. Chanheigeorge (talk) 06:28, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
- Brazil is the subject word of the sentence in question. It is a singular word and requires a singular verb. Brazil, used here, refers to the singular team....one of many teams. For example, in order to use the verb "have' we would need to change the subject word from 'Brazil' to 'The Brazilians'.
-
- He,she,it 'has'...Brazil, a single entity
- they 'have' ......Brazilians, the members on the team.
-
- I hope this explains why the second structure is the correct one. --Buster7 (talk) 06:47, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Help!
Hi there GEORGE, VASCO here,
Since you help me before, i tell you again: what can we do with this vandal, anonymous? He keeps changing infoboxes at his pleasure, and inserting lies. Take this four examples, Arnaldo Edi Lopes da Silva (here, he removed wikilink of PORTUGAL NATIONAL U21 TEAM and inserted just PORTUGAL, and has inserted lies about him being called up to the main national team), Juanfran (with all the links i provided, he still changes his national stats, and now has merged the U21 and A teams' stats, just because), Geraldo Alves (also removed national team link, and changed to nation) and Gustavo Manduca (he inserted national team lies, which i removed; How could he have scored against Belgium in the Olympics when this nation did not even appear? Also, checking - it is available on Wikipedia - the match reports of that competition, we can clearly see that Manduca did not score, against Belgium or any other team).
A common pattern? They are ALL AEK Athens FC players. Have a nice week from Portugal,
VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 21:02, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Parishes of Guernsey
I have no strong views about whether it should be Parishes "of" or "in" Guernsey. What you should not do, however, is make such a change unilaterally - renaming categories is handled at WP:CFD. Furthermore, putting up the depopulated category for speedy deletion on the grounds that it has been empty for 4 days, when you only started emptying it 6 minutes beforehand, is completely inappropriate. [edit] 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification - CAF Third Round
Note that: Nothing is decided for FIFA 2010 qualifications, still now. The situation is different for CAF Cup, but not for the WC. There are still 3 "away" matches so Cote d'Ivoire, for exemple, will ensure (still now) nothing. It could lose the other matches, it could be simply surpassed by Burkina Faso or other. [edit] Brazil spots in Libertadores
Interesting. Thanks for informing me. I don't read Portuguese, just Spanish and English.
I'm confused at the same time. According to what you put, ":b) If the Copa Libertadores 2009 champion is not Brazilian, then #1, #2, and #3 go to Second Phase, and #4 goes to First Phase." There are five spots for Brazil. Brazil 1, 2, 3, 4 go to the second phase, and 5 go to the first phase IF the Libertadores champ is not a Brazilian team. So can you please check if this ":a) If the Copa Libertadores 2009 champion is Brazilian, then #1 and #2 go to Second Phase, and #3 and #4 go to First Phase." is correct since I'm guessing you read Portuguese. [edit] Group by matchday?
You have just put through a whole lot of edits under group by matchday. However, this is not what you are doing, you are just putting lines between sets of matches played on the wsame day (or a day or two apart). Where matches have been postponed etc, you are no longer grouping by matchday - if you were, the matchday structure would be maintained (ie, the matches would be displayed out of chronological order). This is NOT the same as what has occurred in the CONCACAF hexagonal, (where the postponed match has been listed as "Round Five - rescheduled" rather than being "grouped by matchday") or what happens in CONMEBOL, which are the only pleases this is appropriate. I think these distinctions are highly arbitrary, and the edits are quite silly. Please reconsider. You might also want to consider how this sort of thing would play out in the UEFA context. [edit] The Redirect of Walloon Region to Wallonia
I agree with Oreo Priest who is redirecting Walloon Region to Wallonia. We really had a difficult discussion about that and that's the best solution Oreo Priest wrote. Because, in Belgium or Wallonia we do say 'Wallonia' if we are speaking of it as a whole. When ypu are in relationship with the administration and so on or in order to speak about the rules, tle laws, the civil servants, the powers... we are speaking about the Walloon Region. I think it is clear. When we are spending holidays in Paris in holidays, we don't say : "Nous passons quelques jours dans la Ville de Paris" but simply "Nous passons quelques jours à Paris". Don't you think it is the same in all the languages and all the countries? Sincerely, José Fontaine (talk) 11:40, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Brasília and Brazilian Federal District are not the same. The thing is: The Brazilian Federal District is so little that Brasília is the only important or "big" city there. [edit] Spanish La Liga Europa League rules for Europa League
OK, I've read your correction about the Atletico "no-next-EL" and I would believe you have reason. Then, I have another question in the rules, if Seville wons the Copa del Rey, Atlético wons the 2009-10 Europa League and Seville will finish 5th in La Liga, what happens with the 5th and winner Copa pots both wins by Seville? Atletico will be in group stage as winner last Europa League, and it will be another club for some pot of the two acquired by Seville? thank you 81.44.95.47 (talk) 02:27, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- If Atletico Madrid lose both finals and Sevilla finish 5th, the play-off round places go to Sevilla (cup winners) and the 6th placed team, and the 3rd qualifying round place goes to the 7th placed team. If Atletico Madrid lose both finals and Sevilla finish 4th, the play-off round places go to the 5th and 6th placed teams, and the 3rd qualifying round place goes to Atletico Madrid (cup runners-up). So if Sevilla is assured of 4th place, then Atletico Madrid is assured of a Europa League place. Chanheigeorge (talk) 02:51, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
-
- well Chanheigeorge, thanks for the good response and explanation, so excuse me for my insistence hehe, I was saying that if Atlético will win the Europa League (then assured Group Stage of the next Europa League as Title Holder), Seville finishes 5th in La Liga (then assured Play-off stage of the next Europa League as 5th place) and Seville will win the Copa del Rey final (then assured another Play-off stage pot as winner's cup), so being Seville occupying two pots, what happens then? it will be another spanish club for take place one of the two pots occupated for Seville? it's complicated! so, thanks for the response 81.44.95.47 (talk) 03:01, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
-
-
- Sorry for not understanding your previous question! I think what will happen is that Sevilla and the 6th placed team will enter the play-off round, and the 3rd qualifying round place for Spain will become "empty", so no team will take that place. To compensate, teams from other countries will be moved up a round. You can read the details at 2010–11 UEFA Europa League#The Title-Holder. It is indeed quite complicated! [edit] World Cup player categories
You added Category:1934 FIFA World Cup players to the Gyula Polgar page, despite him not playing a match in the tournament, and the introductory page for that article refers to players who 'participated' in the event, which would normally be taken as playing a match. I can't see the logic of adding a player to this category when he hasn't actually played. I agree it is still noteworthy to have made the squad, but this is being picked up via the template anyway. I would welcome any further thoughts you have on this, or if you could point me to any past discussions. Regards Eldumpo (talk) 20:31, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit] continental interference
George, it might be useful to have a list of Pacific Island cities somewhere, but the fact stands that oceania is not a continent. Continents were never intended to divide up every possible location, some countries are just not part of a continent. Good job on adding the Netherlands Antilles to the ISO 3166-3 article! You did a very good job! I'm thinking the next codes to be added are for Southern Sudan and any new codes for the current Sudan later in the year. - Thanks, Hoshie 03:19, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] English UEL berths, 2011–12 season
Hi,
as of now, the English spots should be aligned as following:
- If Stoke City win the FA Cup, then
- the fifth-placed Premier League team and Stoke will enter the playoff round
- Birmingham City will enter the third qualifying round.
That is the easiest case; it gets a lot more complicated if Manchester City win the cup:
- If Manchester City win the FA Cup AND finish fourth in the league, then
- the fifth-placed team will enter the playoff round
- the higher-placed team of Stoke City and Birmingham City will enter the playoff round as well, with the lower team going to the third qualification round.
- If Manchester City win the FA Cup AND finish fifth or lower in the league, then
- Manchester City and the fifth-/sixth-placed team will enter the playoff round
- Birmingham City will enter the third qualification round.

- Meeeeh... these regularities are sometimes a little difficult to overview. After taking yet another and closer look at this year's paperwork, and assuming that UEFA won't change it for 2011–12, I think you are right regarding Birmingham and Stoke. Rocket science is easy compared to this... :D On a second thought, Birmingham should then get a TQ instead of a Q in the current Premier League table... and things will most likely not have cleaned up untill Tottenham and Man City have played each other in mid-May... *sigh* --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 17:35, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Dear Chanheigeorge, because in final of the Russian Cup will play CSKA and Alania it's mean EXACTLY, that in Europe League will play Alania, because CSKA as runner-up of the Russian Premier League 2010 will play in the Champions League. Sincerly--Noel baran (talk) 23:54, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
[edit] 2011 CAF Confederation Cup
Hey, noticed the last edit you made in the play-off round stage saying that it's not certain which team will host the first and second leg. However, it has always been the case that the teams eliminated from the Champions League play the first leg at home, with the teams advancing from the second round of the Confed Cup host the second game at home (to give the advantage to teams that actually began the competition in the Confed Cup). With that said, I will add the two teams back to the table .. if I'm wrong feel free to revert the edit (just mention that I'm wrong :D). Take care. TonyStarks (talk) 10:48, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Consider merging these into a page for them all, or to merge the councils into the districts. Remember that you will in any case need references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. The previous decisions about governmental councils of this size has usually been to delete, sometimes to merge. See WP:LOCAL DGG ( talk ) 16:53, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Community Development Councils
I agree with DGG that these probably need merging. North East Community Development Council and North West Community Development Council in particular provide no addition information that isn't in Community Development Council so there's no reason for them to have stand-alone articles. Why the other two do have more content this could easily be merged given how little there is. While in time they may, with the addition of sourced information, grow to a size that warrants their own article they don't at the moment. Dpmuk (talk) 21:19, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Offical versus unoffical sources for match reports
Consensus has been reached that forcing the use of 'official' sources, such as club websites and the websites of UEFA and FIFA for match reports is not acceptable. The source I used is reliable and has comparable coverage, there is no reason to replace it, so please don't. If you want to use the 'official' source yourself, you may still do so if you are the first one to work on an entry.
Please see this thread on Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard and this WikiProject Football post for details.

[edit] 2012 AFC Champions League
Do you think this is worth noting?
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has decided to grant the provisional measures requested by the Indonesian Football Club Persipura Jayapura and to order the reinstatement of the club in the AFC Champions League 2012.
Persipura was supposed to play the 2012 AFC Champions League Playoffs (East-Zone) on 11 February 2012 against Adelaïde United FC (Australia). At the end of November 2011, the Indonesian FA (PSSI) decided to remove Persipura from the AFC Champions League for disciplinary reasons and requested the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to replace the club with Persija Jakarta. The AFC noted the removal of Persipura but did not accept the participation of Persija Jakarta. As a consequence, Adelaïde United FC was exempted from the playoff match and was granted direct access to the group stage of the competition (first match to be played on 6 March 2012).
On the basis of the CAS decision on request for provisional measures, Persipura Jayapura will be entitled to play the playoff match versus Adelaïde United FC. In case of qualification, the status of Persipura would have to be determined by the CAS after examination of the arguments of the parties (i.e. Persipura, PSSI, AFC and Adelaïde United FC) on the merits of this case.

[edit] Proposed deletion of 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup
The article 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup has been proposed for deletion. The proposed-deletion notice added to the article should explain why.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. [edit] Finnish League and Cup articles
Hi Chanheigeorge. I am making contact with those Editors that take an active interest in Finnish football on English Wikipedia.
For a long time I have been happy to work on Finnish football on Wikipedia without making contact with other Finnish football enthusiasts - basically I like preparing articles / undertaking tasks that interest me and contact with others has not been important. However recently some of my work was changed by a Wikipedia Reviewer and this has led me to question what approach I should be following and indeed what approach would other Finnish football enthusiasts wish to adopt?
The current issue I face is the naming of Finnish Football League and Cup pages. I have adopted the approach that we should always be using the Finnish name in the title, for example 2007 Ykkönen and 2001 Veikkausliiga. However, I am aware that words like Mestaruussarja mean very little to most English speaking Wikipedia users. I therefore have included the English name in the title as well in recent pages, for example, 1936 Mestaruussarja – Finnish League Championship, 1938 Suomensarja – Finnish League Division 2 and 2000 Kakkonen – Finnish League Division 2. I thought that this approach might be a suitable naming convention until the Reviewer changed "2012 Suomen Cup - Finnish Cup" back to 2012 Finnish Cup.
The basic question I am asking is whether Finnish League and Cup articles should have a Finnish or English title or some form of hybrid?
I provide examples below:
I have read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and Wikipedia:Article titles but have not reached a firm conclusion yet on the best way forward in establishing a consistent approach. The issue does matter with respect to the corrections I must make to existing pages and the tens of pages yet to be prepared. It could also carry implications for some of the articles that you currently contribute to. I think that the matter would best be addressed on a proper basis and encourage that the issue is considered on the Talk Page of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Finland task force. If the matter is of concern to you as well, please add your name to the list of participants on the main page. You may also wish to comment on the project structure that I have prepared. Kind regards - (Finnish Gas (Finnish Gas 12:12, 23 February 2012 (UTC)). |
