Speedy deletion of Reading Hockey Club[edit]

A tag has been placed on Reading Hockey Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of Reading R.F.C.[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Reading R.F.C., suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No indication, other than longevity, of why this club is notable. Lacks significant coverage outside of the local references here.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Taylor's University College[edit]

A tag has been placed on Taylor's University College requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Moving river articles.[edit]

Please do not move UK river articles as you have been, WP:RIVER clearly states the previous titles are acceptable for UK rivers. Jeni (talk) 17:31, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I don't read WP:RIVER that way. It says:
If different rivers with the same name exist, use bracket-disambiguation (e.g. Vils (Danube), Turiec River (Váh), Bistriţa River (Siret), Colorado River (Texas)).
and
Always use parentheses for the disambiguator for U.S. and Australian rivers, not a comma. For example Indian River (Michigan) not Indian River, Michigan which is actually a town. (New Zealand and British rivers have used the River, place format. For example River Wye, Derbyshire.
The first quote is pretty definitive. Given that, the first sentence of the second quote is actually redundant, but probably there because of the cultural propensity of North Americans to use commas in this way.
The bracketed third sentence does not say anything about acceptability, but is simply a note pointing out that we have previously got it wrong in some cases.
Whatever the reading of WP:RIVER, which I agree could be better phrased, the fact is that even before I started moving articles, UK rivers were named with an ugly mixture of comma and bracket disambiguation. I felt this needed tidying up, am relatively ambivalent as to which form is better, so took my lead from WP:RIVER, which I think fairly clearly indicates a community preference for bracket disambiguation of rivers.
However I will temporarily stop moving articles, to give you time to reflect and (if you wish) propose a clarification to WP:RIVER. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 17:46, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I feel that WP:RIVER pretty clear as it is, there is certainly no consensus for the mass moving of articles as you did. The comma disambiguation is much more in keeping with how UK places are disambiguated. Jeni (talk) 17:53, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very disappointed that you chose to revert my changes before contacting me. It isn't as if this was vandalism, rather than a disputed reading of a WP style guideline, which most emphatically is not clear. Also you claim there is no consensus for what I was doing, but consensus (or even lack of it) needs more than two people. If there have been previous discussions I was unaware of, please point me at them. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have now proposed a change to WP:RIVER to clarify this issue and establish a consensus. You can see it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers#Correct ambiguity in naming section. Please comment there. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 18:47, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Loftus, West Yorkshire[edit]

The article Loftus, West Yorkshire has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

See talk page. There is no evidence that this place exists; the nearest is Lofthouse, in Wakefield. If someone finds it, it can be recreated.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rodhullandemu 23:05, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated University of Reading Science & Technology Centre, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/University of Reading Science & Technology Centre. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 22:55, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reading railway station[edit]

Hi, you did this edit way back on 31 March 2005 - do you recall where you found the info about the temp station at North Forbury? If so, please add ref to, or amend, Reading Southern railway station. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:17, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I'm out of country with only occassional internet access at the moment so I've only just caught up with this comment. Back in 2005 I was still learning how to use Wikipedia, and I obviously hadn't got to the 'cite everything' bit yet; I'm not even that sure that WP had. I can picture in my mind the page of the book I took that from, but I cannot remember the name. Should be able to find it again once I get home, but that won't be until mid-December. -- chris_j_wood (talk) 21:28, 24 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Any luck yet? --Redrose64 (talk) 17:12, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
