AD&D Userbox

so um does that mean it no longer works till i fix it, that everyone has to alter their pages to get it to work again? that i need to somehow inform people where to find and how to use it now?

i never knew where to put the darn thing and just followed what instructions i found for creating one, but as long as it works and people can still use it without any special attention from me each time someone wants to use it i don't really mind where it is. rather pleased actually that after all this time someone has taken the time to at least inform me where user created userboxes go, or that a usebox policy change may have occured that i may wish to look into and learn about the changes. shadzar|Talk|contribs 20:53, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

No sweat, I was just trying to help out - many userboxes have non-free images that get deleted leaving them bare, as a member of Wikiproject Userboxes one of the things I do is try to fix them up. Adam233 is very clearly a sockpuppet or single-purpose account of an experienced user. He's also a quite effective troll. I'll look into what can be done to see justice ultimately prevail. I'd like to give Adam233 the benefit of the doubt, but considering there's been no further edits or activity from that account, I'm still sticking with my SPA theory. If it were an IP editor who wanted to do AfDs and further edits, then we'd see more activity at least. I try to adhere to WP:ASSUME, but yeah, there's nothing but evidence that supports only a bad view of the account.
I may disagree with Bidgee's view, but he makes a good point for someone who is an outsider to the entire case. And he at least dealt with it well. I've got nothing against his view. barneca's accusation of gaming, on the other hand...
I don't think I'll be going away (gotta get the Toastmasters article to GA!) but it's become yet another reason for me to be pissed off with Wikipedia, as if I needed another. --coldacid (talk|contrib) 21:47, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Le Parc Downsview

Okay, I was going to write this entire passage in French but I relented (LOL). I know the Downsview Park very well as I have a connection with the Toronto Aerospace Museum. However, please do change the note to whatever is proper, but "official names" probably should predominate in the first instance, and then familiar names after. FWiW, I currently work with a high school program in Commercial Aviation, the school: Collége Sturgeon Heights Collegiate (just the way of the world in Canada, hard to go against the official nomenclature, sorta like pushing water uphill...) BTW, I wrote the de Havilland Canada articles quite a long time ago, so they only appear on my watchlist, and I have long since left them behind. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 12:00, 22 August 2008 (UTC).
I'm not going to change it back to my edit. It's just really annoying to see the bilingual names pushed, when the plain and seperate English and French names are every bit as official. BTW good thing you didn't write it in French, because I wouldn't understand it. I got my grade nine French credit on a technicality, I never actually passed the class. And those years having to learn it in school, those have amounted to nothing. I know more classical Latin than I know French. Wilderness Diarrhea Article Getting Killed

coldacid: perhaps this is of interest to you. A couple of zealots are merging Wilderness Diarrhea into Travelers Diarrhea for obscure reasons. The article is comprehensive and dull, and useful to those interested in the topic. After a couple of weeks of calm discussion, I went ballistic and no longer wish to participate. My personal take on Wilderness diarrhea is that there is way too much hype around the topic. I'd added to the article a wide range of studies, the best of which seemed to demonstrate this. I'm afraid I pissed off a small cabal of failed medical doctors, because I told one that his notion of "writing so high school students can understand" is the wrong approach and disrespects the reader.
They decided to teach me a lesson (at the expense of Wilderness Diarrhea) with merger to Travelers Diarrhea. Purely spiteful.

By design, because at the time I got adr working with {{Infobox Organization}}, we had an adr nesting inside another one. Your change to {{Infobox Organization}} means that the inadr parameter isn't needed for articles using the infobox any more, however. Casa Loma

Hey there; I'm not overly familiar with the process of copyvio (in fact, I just intended to mark it with a header template, and didn't expect it to blank the article, but once it did, I just decided I ought to leave it. I had done major weasel-word removal, and removing of like 5 entire paragraphs that were virtually duplicated in the article itself (once in 'History' and once in a separate section after that). After reading all that, it seemed pretty obvious this was copied from some sort of promotional site. I found a lot of it on the casa loma official site (as mentioned at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 March 6. You could especially compare it to the history before I edited it. Even as it is now, parts are copied: "Net proceeds from the operation of Casa Loma support a wide range of the Kiwanis Club's charitable works." is copied directly from this page just to point out one sentence. In fact, I believe that ENTIRE page was verbatum copied into the article before I killed weasel words (that was pretty much before I realized it was copied verbatum). If you go back to history page 5, you will also find that page titled "The years in between". That is exactly what the section in the article was called circa this edit, which makes it obvious that the 'today' section is ripped from the same-titled section of page 6.

If you want to split stuff out of the copyvio, you have my blessing, but you should check out the site I cited on that copyvio page first. I did 'change' a little bit of the text that was in the article to de-weasel, so its obviously not going to be a direct port anymore, but without that site even being cited, I don't think that kind of change is valid enough to claim copyvio has been eliminated, you know? mIRC and IRC

Hi, I saw your change on the occupy article. The FT source does make a big point out of saying mIRC is their favoured means of communication. I was camping at St Pauls this weekend. Granted I was more interested not in IT, but in finding out about the protestors political motivations and understanding the various power plays from interests trying to co-opt the movement for their own ends. But I did poke my head into the "Tech Tent" (it was too crowded for me to go in) and all the chat screens I could see did seem to be mIRC. I think chats have a unique flavour if everyone uses mIRC, its part of the shared communal experience which the movement seems very keen to maintain. So there is a case both from the sources and actuality to say mIRC not IRC. But I understand your point that IRC is in a sense more technically correct (there has to be some using other IRC clients) so will leave it up to you. I'd say leave it as IRC. Chances are they didn't say mIRC, but most journalists only know about the client, not the actual technology, and I'd take it that the source misheard. mIRC is probably the least secure client for anyone to use, anyway. --coldacid (talk|contrib) 21:30, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I notice journalists make that sort of mistake about half the time they write on something ive inside knowledge of. But never from an FT journalist and I read FT almost every day. But you could be right so no objection. I didnt know about mIRC being the most insecure. If its true its their favoured client it will be an interesting parallel to their political attitudes where they seem to have a self defeating distrust of the major parties, including ones that share many of their values. I've gone and moved the file over to Wikipedia Commons, which should take care of the licensing issue for you. April - National Contribution Month

Good day Coldacid,

During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.

Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us.
