Great show wasn't it? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 15:22, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed this comment. There's so much distracting trivia on Wikipedia I never saw the link to comments before.

As for the show, it really was good, but perhaps because of the title ("Forgotten Genius"), I forgot all about it. :( D021317c 22:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Cornua[edit]

A tag has been placed on Cornua, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Merely a dictionary definition, plus possible copyright violation

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Jeodesic 14:45, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see that it redirects to "cornu" now. At the time, I didn't know how to do that; in fact, I still don't! D021317c 22:16, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do continue to be WP:BOLD to make obvious changes in favor of clear presentation , and remove public relations style fluffery. Time to clean up that and related articles. DGG (talk) 04:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. I'm dyslexic (I think) and haven't read much about working on Wikipedia yet, but I've always liked reference books (especially the Encyclopedia Britannica) and have a fondness for terse, precise wording. Recently, somebody donated an Encyclopedia Britannica to my local library, which had none (just the World Book), and the staff piled it in a corner for anybody to take. I did, though it was quite an ordeal getting it home -- on a hand truck tied to my bike! D021317c 22:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the cleanup. It is why one should not try to reuse old text when doing a total overhaul on an article. :) --soum talk 11:54, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions you left talk page. Please be WP:BOLD and expand/clarify/correct the article. I'm only a hobbyist and it would be great to have an expert look over it. (RCX (talk) 16:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, I just happened to come across an old post of yours relating to Prem Rawat (Maharaj Ji) – there's been some intense discussions going on around the articles on Prem Rawat, the Divine Light Mission and related topics – with the reliability of various sources hotly debated, and a mediation in progress. If you fancy having a look in, since you appear to have some personal experience of the movement, you would be very welcome. Cheers! --Jayen466 19:33, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The best way to start an article like this is to work on it in your userspace. For instance, you could create User:Unfree/The seven signs
That's what he thinks.
...and write the article there. When you think it is ready, you could copy it to the mainspace.
Make sure you follow the rules on verifiability and notability and follow the guidelines at WP:MOS.

Wikipedia talk: Project Medicine[edit]

I just left a message at Wikipedia talk: Project Medicine inquiring about a catheter which was inserted into my urethra before an emergency operation. I said it went in about ten centimeters, but now that I think about it, it was probably only about six to eight centimeters. All the catheters mentioned in the Wikipedia article on catheters extend all the way into the bladder; this, although referred to as a Foley catheter, was evidently not one, but something else. I wonder what it was, and whether I can find any information about it. Unfree (talk) 00:22, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw your query on the talk page for HTML element. Have you looked the Wikipedia Help pages, for example, Help:Table. Best Regards. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, Plastikspork, but that page is about Wikipedia tables, as far as I can see. What I'm looking for is help on attributes of ordinary HTML tables. In any case, brushing up on cascading style sheets helped me out of the difficulty I was having. Again, thanks for the tip, though; I'm sure that page will come in handy. Vladimir Horowitz's piano[edit]

Hello. I saw your post on the Vladimir Horowitz talk page. Franz Mohr's book, My Life with the Great Pianists, contains quite a bit of information on the five pianos Horowitz used in the last 25 years of his life. It also goes into some detail about how he adjusted the piano to Horowitz's specifications.THD3 (talk) 19:56, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Distant galaxies[edit]

From Wikinews comes "The 2004 photo previously showed the most distant galaxies, but the new infrared pictures from the WFC3 allow even more remote galaxies to be seen." So, I wonder, what's the difference between distant and remote? Unfree (talk) 03:04, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"more remote" - as in, more distant than the previous distant. aka 'farther away' 50.111.2.158 (talk) 15:07, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Creating redirects[edit]

I noticed you tried to create a redirect from Musical comedies to Musical comedy. Two things to note for the future:

  1. Try not to create double redirects. Musical comedy itself is a redirect to Musical theatre. So the proper target for the redirect at Musical comedies is Musical theatre.
  2. The proper wikicode for a redirect is:
    #REDIRECT [[Page_name]]

Thanks a million, whoever you are! Unfree (talk) 04:45, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hope it's fixed. I tried going to "musical comedies" to undo what (wrong) I was trying, but failed to find my boo-boo this time around, so if you did it, thanks two million! Unfree (talk) 04:49, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Read Wikipedia:Redirect#Double_redirects for why creating a double redirect (Musical comedies --> Musical comedy --> Musical theatre) is not a good idea. I've straightened out the redirect now, so no need to fix again. — ækTalk 04:55, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again! I've never gotten such helpful personal attention, and I'm flattered. But if you were expecting four million, well, oh, okay! Thanks, truly, for the heads-up. Unfree (talk) 08:01, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For anybody who stumbles in here, "What links here" isn't just garbage to be overlooked, but it actually comes in handy. My problem was that I thought I could avoid creating a link with the visible text on one side of a pipe (or "bar") symbol, the one probably over the backslash on your keyboard, and the article's title on the other. (I always have trouble remembering which side is which.) I was disappointed when I discovered "musical comedy" worked and "musical comedies" didn't, because I thought Wikipedia software just "handled" all plurals somehow, but that was a mistaken impression. The reason "varieties", for example, redirects to the disambiguation page for "Variety" is that somebody created a redirect to do it, which isn't hard, but requires a bit of technical know-how. That is, a technique is applicable, as explained at that link you see above. (I surmise you see it!) Unfree (talk) 08:17, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What a nice introduction! I'm glad to know about WP:EIW. Your bio mentions "this book" without saying which book, but I did a little research on my own. I'm impressed with your beguiling Lucy, but my Dusty crawls under the covers with me, and our Lucy is a cat of many colors, that is, three. You're not my elder fellow alumnus, but I'm very pleased to meet you. No wonder you're so smart. You haven't been as idle as I am. Now if only I could combine smart and idle, and get things done, too. I still like those sixteenth notes, and wonder if I could get two or three. Perhaps you can answer my question above, about show/hide buttons. I thought you were an alumnus of the now renamed Columbus Boychoir School, an alma mater of mine. I can't make "alma mater" plural, or I would. Unfree (talk) 22:57, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, you already did! Thanks for the NavFrame heads-up. Unfree (talk) 23:01, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what I told Wikipedia's editors on the subject of Rovaniemi's so-called population statistics![edit]

Maybe they don't consider the other 25,000 (vacationing Poles in midsummer) to be foreigners. Besides, there are those real foreigners, we Americans, constantly taking away their nice, sweet Finnish girls for our wicked matrimonial arrangements with glee, so you simply must use subtraction, you see. You can't expect everything to add up; you have to account for the absenteeism somehow. I just want to know whether Rovaniemi's north or south of that circle when it's pitch dark a few days before Christmas arrives, and whether anybody's still hanging around then. (Kidding, of course.) Finns come in droves to sunny south Minnesota for Christmas (eschewing Miami, FL) wouldn't you? (Miami snow is only in patches, and then you still have to wait in line for your turn, and pay to get in, it's so precious. Bring your parka; we don't sell them anywhere down here.) And just think of all those terrible, bulky polar bears, home for the holidays, all true Finns, of course, but crowding everybody else out, taking all the crushed ice for themselves, and hogging up whole couches, while contributing nothing at all to the population. There's no accounting for such a phenomenon, swigging down juniper vodka, both sweet and sour, with mint. (And when they depart, sulking and staggering, soon after the festivities, they hardly ever pick up their own trash! Imagine! They must even leave, sometimes at least, without paying. I bet they hang out in the forests in their birthday suits, without even leaving the city limits!) Here at Wikipedia, we must always distort the facts a bit, all kidding aside, for the sake of logic. Anyone can. We focus in on (and account somehow for) what doesn't add up. (Still kidding, of course.) Who, I ask you, needs documentation for that?! This is all quite disturbing to me. Unfree (talk) 04:37, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And another thing. You just try politely asking three or four utterly soused polar bears to make room for you in the sauna some time naked, or with only a towel! You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Unfree (talk) 04:37, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can't even find my carefully thought out comment. Did they delete it? Is it even fair? Sure, it's off-topic, but I'm serious about this. It could be a beautiful city, replete with forests, and even a decent population statistic! But no, they'll have none of it. Is it any wonder they're always arguing? Unfree (talk) 04:37, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

USA Population[edit]

Somewhere in a talk page on Wikipedia, I wrote that according to the US Census's "population clock", the population was approaching 400 million. Now it's down to 300 million again. Weird! Here are my notes:
