Do not add interwiki links to ambiguous-titled categories[edit]

I advise updating this bot to prevent edits like this one. jnestorius(talk) 19:22, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to warn you, I will modify my script to ignore this kind of pages. --Sisyph (talk) 13:16, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Something wrong[edit]

Something wrong with the robot making an edit to the Edmonton Drillers (NASL) article. It keeps changing it for the Italian language to be starting in 1975, but the team didn't start until 1979. Greg Salter (talk) 02:37, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your message, but actually I think it wasn't a mistake. The Italian page has a paragraph titled Edmonton Drillers (NASL 1975-1982). As I don't speak Italian I don't know why they begin at 1975, but I think the modification by the bot was correct. --Sisyph (talk) 08:42, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bot adding incorrect interlang links to templates[edit]

Diff. Bots should not be adding interlang links to template pages if the documentation has been split to a sub-page. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 11:31, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

I'm not entirely sure that the bot's edit to Riven was something that it should have done. I have taken the liberty of undoing it.

The bot persists in adding a link to the article for the City of Stratford on what I assume is the Russian Wikipedia. This article is about the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. -Dhodges (talk) 00:36, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done I modified the russian page. --Sisyph (talk) 07:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This bot incorrectly links the above page to sv:Gwyn. Please rectify this. Thanks FruitMonkey (talk) 22:31, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done, false links deleted manually on other wiki. --Sisyph (talk) 13:26, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ridley Township, Pennsylvania[edit]

Bot adding inappropriate and mispelled link.Malke2010 17:16, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, my bot modify this link [1] because es:Ridley Township have been deleted, and for me the new link es:Municipio de Ridley (Pensilvania) is correct, and history, you can see Ridley Township ha sido trasladado a Municipio de Ridley (Pensilvania). --Sisyph (talk) 16:21, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

2004 enlargement of the European Union[edit]

Hi, your bot is incorrectly adding interwikies to 2004 enlargement of the European Union. nl:Toetreding van Bulgarije tot de Europese Unie, fr:Procédure d'adhésion de la Bulgarie à l'Union européenne, ro:Integrarea României în Uniunea Europeană and simple:Accession of Romania to the European Union are not comparable articles. Please override your bot on this. Ron 1987 12:25, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

This is equivalent with French caduc, not with French feuillu. The change in link is wrong. --EncycloPetey (talk) 07:46, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello EncycloPetey, thanks for your correction. I can explain why bots modify in that way. fr:caduc is an disambiguation page, and en:Deciduous not, so bot ignore the link. But listing other interwikis, bots can find fr:feuillu (introduce around 2006 in some articles like es:Caducifolio which has en:Deciduous too) and thus modifiy a disambiguation page to a real article. --Sisyph (talk) 20:12, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this a serious flaw in the way that bots work. I wish people would check the edits made by their bots rather than letting faulty ones run all the time. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:11, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bargal[edit]

I've reverted this edit. Bargal is about a place in Somalia, while vi:Bargal, Karwar is about a place in India. A few days ago, YFdyh-bot (talk · contribs) had done the same thing. Is there some way to flag the page so that the 'bots won't confuse the 2 topics? Thanks. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 14:36, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bots[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
