Welcome[edit]

Hello Dave, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.

Here are some useful links in case you haven't already found them;

Hi :) I'm afraid you can't copy and paste content from the web into the Wikipedia, that's a copyright violation... As a result I've listed Redwall on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/copyvio. If you like, you should write the article in your own words so it doesn't use copied content.

Thanks! :) Dysprosia

Please note that Wikipedia is not a genealogical dictionary. I feel your entry on Babbitt is therefore inappropriate. Please discuss the issue on Votes for deletion if you feel otherwise. Angela 02:27, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)

Please don't overload the sandbox - the addition made the sandbox blow out to 98k, which is really large for when people want to try out Wiki editing they'll have to wait for all the stuff to load.

If you like, you can make a personal sandbox. For your convenience, here is a link that'll do it for you: User:Dbabbitt/Sandbox

Concerning the "49 virtues" which you added to the Virtue article.

May I ask - did you just happen to think of an arbitrary 49 yourself or can you cite some published reference?

Are the 49 virtues defined by a particular movement or school of christian theology or ethics? If so, then can I suggest that it might actually be a good idea to create an article dedicated to that particular school or movement and put all the related contributions there.

Without wanting to be too critical, it would seem a better approach than the one you have taken. For example, it is not clear to me that an article describing flexibility requires any discussion of it as a 'virtue', christian or otherwise - a simple dictionary definition of the word would suffice.

Please note this is just my personal point of view. I have no authority here. However, you should be aware that some of your contributions have been listed on Wikipedia:Cleanup by more than one user. Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

authoritarian gov rationing Hubbert peak[edit]

I modified your change on the Hubbert peak article and removed "authoritarian goveverment" as all types of government can ration energy, do you agree? Even the U.S. rationed gasoline in the early 1970s. A known troll has come along and reverted my change, if you agree with the change I made to your edit can you be the one that cleans up the mess left by this troll? If so, thx zen master T 04:32, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

You seem to be at the same time narrowly defining what an authoritarian government is and broadly defining what a troll is. Any government that tries to help society as a whole and only incidentally help the individual is authoritarian in that respect. Even the U.S. in the early 1970s. Labeling someone a troll I find mildly offensive. Didn't he also refer to you as a troll? Your self-defensiveness is also mildly offensive. I'm just mildly offended today. :-) --Dbabbitt 01:47, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Your user page[edit]

I just reverted some changes from an IP after reviewing history and noting that it's been reverted several times thus far. I just hope it's not you editing from an IP! (If it is, feel free to tell me to sod off.) Tony Fox 18:33, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

This is just weird. It looks like the IP, which has vandalized before, is trying to redesign the whole page. *confused* Tony Fox 18:36, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
No it's definitely someone other than me trying to vandalize my user page. Thanx for looking out for me. --Dbabbitt 23:59, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Knights of Columbus[edit]

Hi! Thanks for voting for the Knights of Columbus on the Catholic Collaboration page! I know that it is not the CCW article for a few weeks, but right now it is up for FAC so if you could see your way over there early that would be great. Right now the only person holding out on supporting it has a complaint about the prose, so copyediting would be particularly helpful. Thanks again! --Briancua 14:04, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Hi there, I don't understand what you mean, I mark pages for speedy deletion etc when I see them and think it is appropriate. Please help, I don't understand where you think I'm going wrong? can you tell me in more detail and I'll do my best to work on it. Tellyaddict 15:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

It looks like, from your talk page, that you have deleted the changes of three people merely because they have neglected to log in before making the edits. Is there more to it than that? --Dbabbitt 15:22, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry[edit]

Look at just like to say that I'm really sorry, I don't want this to turn in to a dispute because I believe that Wikipedia is a friendly place and I'd just like to thank you for bringing these matters to my attention and that I hope we can put thus behind us and be friends. Thanks for bringing it to my attention and happy editing. I don't fully understand what you mean, you'll have to expalin it a little more. please reply on my talk page though. I dont understand what you mean, please explain it in more detail as I have already asked.

Respectfully... Tellyaddict 16:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

What are you doing to bring your personal reverting policy more in line with Wikipedia's Avoidance policy? Please answer my question "as I have already asked".

BABS!![edit]

Where the hell are you ? Are you still at the Knights? If not why did you leave ? Fill me in would ya.

Hi Doug! I'm still working at KofC, but I'm looking to leave any time, because they don't have any more ColdFusion for me to work on.
I'm still working at KofC, but I'm working from home. I also have other clients which allow me to work (mostly) from home.
I'm not working from home anymore, and am coding almost exclusively in Java.

Tally marks image[edit]

Hi Dbabbitt,

I've uploaded a new version of Image:Tally marks-Five-bar Gate.svg that comes more directly from Image:Tally marks.svg. Since the image is an SVG, the "nominal size" is really irrelevant; you can scale it to any size you'd like. For example, here's the image at 24 pixels high: Tally marks-Five-bar Gate.svg. Hope this helps! --bdesham  14:45, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to ARS![edit]

Hi, Dbabbitt, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 21:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Political Ideologies.png[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Political Ideologies.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

 • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
 • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 01:04, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Ways to improve Orders of magnitude (energy flow density)[edit]

Hi, I'm Gareth E Kegg. Dbabbitt, thanks for creating Orders of magnitude (energy flow density)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. The main article energy flow densities has not been created!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Decentralized Autonomous Corporation may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. Rescuing your DAC article[edit]

Hi! FYI: I started http://coinwiki.info/ yesterday and was about to start an article on DACs. Fortunately I found your excellent article here, but I also noticed it might be deleted. I made a quick copy to http://coinwiki.info/en/Decentralized_autonomous_corporation just in case. (In case you're wondering, I've been disappointed in bitcoin.it and I've started many wikis before, some of those have become quite successful :) Guaka (talk) 18:00, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I think their $10-USD-to-get-started model leaves something to be desired. Thanx for picking me up! Since the article I wrote here is mostly an original synthesis, I'm going to publish it for a journal and was looking forward to the deletion, so I could reintroduce it with my journal article as a reference. (I wonder how the fact that you've made a copy of it is going to effect that. :-)
