Help[edit]

{{helpme}}

Can you view my draft of an article about Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland (FCS)? I think that FCS has enough significance in the history of Baltimore and the development of modern social work to be included in Wikipedia. I've never posted an article before and I want to be sure it meets all criteria. I don't want to go to all this trouble and then have it deleted! Right now, it's on my user page. Can you view it, or do I need to move it to the public site?

I am particularly concerned about the GFDL requirements. I can't understand them! The history text I have taken from the FCS archives (and have posted with modifications) is content that FCS gave to the Eisenhower Library Special Collection of Johns Hopkins University (JHU) that has subsequently been copyrighted by JHU. The archivist of the FCS collection, Margaret Burri, has given me permission to use it for this article. At the beginning of the history, the JHU special collection is credited, and at the end, the link to the archives is given.

Is this ok?

Thanks,

{{helpme}} Dear TenPoundHammer, Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm surprised to hear you say that it sounds promotional -- I looked at other entries to get a sense of the tone. The Johns Hopkins University entry sounds just like their admission recruitment material -- I know this because my son has been receiving the materials from their undergraduate admissions office. I thought that, especially by comparison with the JHU site, my entry was pretty sterile, however, I will look it over more carefully and pull out anything that is not strictly factual. Thanks again, dfj DebbieFeldmanJones (talk) 15:15, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm guessing that TenPoundHammer was in particular refering to the lead section with the list of services. I'd propose putting them into a seperate section, and probably condense it a bit and convert it to prose. The history doesn't seem promotional to me. Inline citations (see WP:REFERENCES) would be very useful, in particular the first line in the history section should be converted into a reference, and the "for more information" part should be moved into an "External links" section.
    I will also leave a note on TenPoundHammer's talk page, if you want to adress a specific editor you should always post to his talk page directly, or if you think he watches your page (like I will now) just reply where the conversation started.

I answered at my talk page. --AmaltheaTalk 19:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} I think it's time to move my draft on Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland to the article space. How do I do it? Sorry for the stupid question; I'm new to this. Thanks. DebbieFeldmanJones (talk) 02:33, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Thanks TenPoundHammer and Amalthea! I'm so proud!! I'll continue to add reference info.

Congratulations on your new article.
I've taken the liberty to remove the draft from your talk page. Maybe with your next article you can try and work on it in a sandbox, like at User:DebbieFeldmanJones/Sandbox or User:DebbieFeldmanJones/Whatever topic you are working on, so that you can use the move tab at the top to move it into article space when its done.
Anyway, I've done some minor formatting changes on your article, but really just trivial things to bring it in line with some style guidelines. Well done!

Thank you Amalthea! I didn't think about taking it off the talk page but it really was cluttering it up. As always, I appreciate your help. Debbie (talk) 19:51, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
