Comment

Hi Dennis, Thanks for your comments regards my posts. However, I will be happy if you will please do take a few minutes to let me know the difference to mention Tourstart in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle_touring and http://www.mtce.org/ which is, by the way, a link to a page under construction. Just for me to understand the guidelines on wiki. Best regards, Agnoletti — Preceding unsigned comment added by Agnoletti (talkcontribs) 06:31, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

James Dean

I have decided to take on the task of overhauling this article. I'm a little concerned about some pieces of the article, mainly the "curse of the 'Little Bastard' section" (not only do I think that section is irrelevant to Dean's legacy, but it also looks like a direct copy paste, and thus, is a copyright violation). In the mean time, you can check out the progress of the article in this userspace. If you would like to add something to it, feel free to do so. :) —DAP388 (talk) 02:53, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Orders, decorations, and medals of Chile

I've responded to your feedback on Template:Did you know nominations/Orders, decorations, and medals of Chile. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 18:31, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Dennis, there's a new version of the hook there now, too. Did you want to continue with the review, since you're already acquainted with the issues involved, or should we find someone new? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:06, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Dennis,

If you have a moment, I would appreciate your input on the recent edits at Wheel hub motor. Thanks. Ebikeguy (talk) 15:13, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Aformentioned DRN report located here. Ebikeguy (talk) 16:00, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Do you want to file the sock report, or shall I? Thanks, Ebikeguy (talk) 16:07, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm filing the report now. Ebikeguy (talk) 16:09, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Report filed here. I don't think it will do much good, but I don't think it will hurt, either. Ebikeguy (talk) 17:07, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Do me a favour Dennis and take a look at Rallye des Pyrénées. An editor there is starting to exhibit some WP:OWN behaviour w.r.t. a bunch of poor quality images. --Biker Biker (talk) 01:32, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the caps. I hadn't spotted that.

Page no.s given in talk section- feel free to fill them in article as you see fit- not aware of the in-house style for this. Biker Biker remember to assume good faith etc when having WP:OWN issues...sometimes can appear black pots & kettles situation!;-) 213.123.135.235 (talk) 23:35, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Double-check, please?

I've reviewed the article Destinee Hooker and quite a few close paraphrases turned up, but most, if not all, of them look like some standard terms that are very difficult to avoid. Could you please double-check the article to see if it's O.K.? The nomination template is at Template:Did you know nominations/Destinee Hooker. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 03:55, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 11:53, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Edit warring reported

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. The thread is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Edit_warring#User:_Dennis_Bratland_reported_by_User:76.76.65.172_.28Result:_.29. Thank you.

Flagged your Freaknik Edit Warring. I chose to be cordial and did not report your reversions and section deletion as vandalism, although I think it clearly is.

Kinetic Luna

Proper name should be Kinetic Luna http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_Lunua

Could you rename it correctlyWBRSin (talk) 18:16, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Never mind another editor changed it. WBRSin (talk) 18:20, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

My bad. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:29, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

A recent note from you on my talk page directed me to Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Seattle, Washington. Can you give me any explanation of the basis on which articles are placed in this category? For example, one inclusion is Talk:Arctic Building. The article already has two photos, and I can't offhand see what would be desired that is not in Commons:Category:Arctic Building, Seattle. - Jmabel | Talk 02:39, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

On the tag, I put in a comment needs-photo=Yes}} <!-- Interior photos -->. Several historic buildings like this have not just a standard mug shot of the building facade, but also photos of the building interior. I tagged several articles this way, or just wrote "better photo" if the images it had were small or otherwise not informative. Many photos of organizations, like Consolidated Works, have a meaningless illustration of the exterior of their building. That's a start, but they would greatly benefit from images that are relevant to their activities. Photos of what they do rather than just the outside of the building where they do it. Like Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering or Monadnock Building. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • To get an interior photo of a defunct organization (like Consolidated Works) is going to require personal networking, not photography. The project next month of going out & shooting photos obviously cannot fulfill this. - Jmabel | Talk 20:15, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Yes. The needs photo tag is not identical with the list of targets for the one-day event. It's just a starting point for the list for the scavenger hunt. Many of the needs-photo=yes tags will take months or years to clear. Some may never get done. But it's a start. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:24, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Similarly for Ballard Carnegie Library and, doubtless, others. If we already have a bunch of pictures of a building and someone asks for pictures but doesn't indicate what they want beyond what we already have, I'm not at all sure how to meet that request. - Jmabel | Talk 02:43, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

The note I put in there was <!-- recent photo incl. interior -->. The Ballard Carnegie Library has recently been re-purposed again and so something recent would be good. And more interiors, of course. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Or, even more strangely, what would be a useful photo for Black Sun (sculpture), a copyrighted sculpture? - Jmabel | Talk 02:44, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Fremont Troll, Crown Fountain, Cloud Gate, etc. are copyrighted, but they have a fair use images. You have to know what you're doing to successfuly upload fair use images of art, but I think there are editors who can fulfill these photos requests.

Many of these requests will require a lot of work and ingenuity to fulfill, I know, but we have all the time in the world. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:22, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

  • It would sure be helpful if comments on particular photos wanted (like "recent photo incl. interior") would be put on the talk page, so someone doesn't have to open the page for edit to find out what you want. - Jmabel | Talk 20:13, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Yes. I'm getting as much work done as I can but I can't do it all myself in a short timeframe. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:24, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

For Holy Names Academy do you have any idea what is wanted by way of a photo? There's a lot (mostly my work) at Commons:Category:Holy Names Academy (Seattle). - Jmabel | Talk 05:01, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference

I'm sorry to report that there were not enough accounts available for you to have one. I have you on our list though and if more become available we will notify you promptly.

We're continually working to bring resources like Credo to Wikipedia editors, and this will very hopefully not be your last opportunity to sign up for one. If you haven't already, please check out WP:HighBeam and WP:Questia, where accounts are still available. Cheers, Ocaasi 19:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 24

Hi. When you recently edited Triumph Daytona 955i, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Liquid cooled (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

In Response ot Mac & Jack's Logo Concerns

Dennis,

I'd like to make clear, as you perhaps may have asserted, that I am not Mac Rankin, although I am updating the Mac & Jack's page with an updated logo and beer information.

You are correct that the right license type was not selected, and I appreciate your diligence in this matter. I have since revised the logos image to the correct license type. I plan no further edits to the page.

Wikipedia Takes Seattle photo event

Please pick a date a starting point for this ASAP, we're going to turn on the high publicity in the next day or so. Also, you don't have to worry about creating new codes, it's all at National Register of Historic Places listings in King County, Washington and googlemap link.--Pharos (talk) 22:49, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Dates are under discussion but it's unresolved. Can someone make a decision and close the discussion? There's only 18 targets on the NRHP list. There's over 700 at Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Seattle, Washington but we can't use those? Just wondering. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:54, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
National Register of Historic Places listings in Seattle, Washington is the right list, actually; there are 170 sites listed on it. The date choice really isn't a wiki discussion type of thing for outsiders to "close"; it's something that you as the leading organizer should just take the responsibility to pick, along with the gathering point.--Pharos (talk) 23:35, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
I say just propose a date that is convenient for you. When the advertising gets turned on I would think that other people in Seattle will respond no matter the date. I will tell a few more friends about the event as well, but pick a date first. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:07, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

I'll print out some signs for the Wikipedia Takes Seattle photo event per your note on my talk page. :) Strangerette (talk) 17:45, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I saw at WP:ANI that you used this link to possibly search for external links, just in case you might not know Special:Linksearch can be used to find any external links. I think it's a lot cleaner and easier to use than the regular Special:Search option. - SudoGhost 02:07, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Cool. Thanks! --Dennis Bratland (talk) 03:11, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Your help on the GSX-R page

Thanks. I wasn't aware that WIkipedia isn't a reliable source. I'll delete those links out. Yes, there are some web pages there, too. I might leave them in for now, but I'll try to upgrade this using book references as soon as I unpack my library in the garage. (I just moved).

I'd appreciate it if you don't revert my changes out to pick up your edits, but rather reapply them to the full article. I worked for several hours on this article, and of course I expect people to edit it and improve it, but not delete half of it to fix a reference.

Thanks! I see you have a lot of interesting topics you write on. I want to go read that Outlaws article now!

ZeroXero (talk) 05:11, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

You shouldn't take ownership of articles while you're working on something, and you can't ask others not to edit until you're done. And it isn't necessary. Just click "My sandbox" at the top of your screen, and edit in your sand box. Or create a workpage under the article's talk page, and then copy that over to the article when you're ready. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Suzuki_GSX-R_series and add /workpage on the end, so it says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Suzuki_GSX-R_series/workpage and click "Start the Talk:Suzuki GSX-R series/workpage page".

Articles are live, and any editor who sees a problem should fix it right away rather than wait. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 14:59, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

FFD of the main image in a GA that you have edited

At Wikipedia:Files_for_deletion/2012_September_11#File:Hill_Street_Station_hostages_robbers.jpg, there is an FFD underway for what seems to me to be a fairly standard FU usage. Can you comment on this since you have copyedited this article.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:52, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

September 2012

Dennis -

I'm not sure what you meant about adding something to the bottom of your talk page, so I'm doing it this way. As you mentioned, I'm new to this, and just had one contribution to make.

Chromeheads is a non-profit thing (not a company) that consists of user contributions (kind of like Wikipedia) that has been in use for 14 years run by various volunteers, and expenses (domain registry, etc.) are paid by the moderators. There is no advertising. I was surprised that this was a violation of Wikipedia policy, and interpreted as a sales pitch. Please considering allowing a reference to it, if that's your decision to make. Thanks. Feel free to emaile me at drdave@geotech.com if you want to discuss it further, and if you haven't done so, visit the page, especially the Cruisertalk forum, to see that value it provides. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drdave1200 (talkcontribs) 16:00, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

It isn't my decision. WP:External links explains the guideline. Please read. Specifically, read the section WP:ELNO. It's of no consequence whether the site is for profit or non-profit. Since Wikipedia is not a directory (read Wikipedia is not a directory), lists of links to useful sites don't belong in articles. In particular, links from editors with a conflict of interest are not allowed. Links to open wikis, social networking sites, fansites, and forums are not allowed, with only a handful of exceptions. Again, read WP:ELNO.

What you're looking for is the Open Directory Project, or DMOZ. Go to http://www.dmoz.org/ and click "suggest URL" to request adding chromeheads.org to the appropriate listing.--Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:06, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Missed Seattle event

Dennis, sorry I missed Wikipedia Takes Seattle yesterday. I was in Eastern Washington on Saturday for a memorial service. Will you be at the regular meeting at the U-District coffee house in October? Maybe we'll meet there. — Brianhe (talk) 21:14, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we need to put an October meeting on the meetup page. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:17, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Italian symbols

Hi. I created the article National symbols of Italy only because there was a red link in the template {{Culture of Italy}}, or else I would never have dreamed of creating it. I, as an Italian, I think the Vespa, like Ferrari, like fashion, such as coffee, such as art or, if you like, pasta, are national symbols. Otherwise tell me what are they? ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 05:09, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Cite an authoritative source, that's all. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 14:24, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
I did this and I put the sources. You can now please remove the warning? ;-) --Kasper2006 (talk) 15:38, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
It's not a warning. It's an AFd nomination. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:52, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Perfect. But now can you tell me if, as has been changed, it's OK for you? --Kasper2006 (talk) 21:48, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
