Block[edit]

Thank you for your help with user "Merlin the 2nd". Is it possible to nuke all the edits? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:09, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

I went through his edits, and they weren't all bad. I did rollback all of the ones that were messing up the templates, as far as I could see --- which includes all of the ones made today. Deville (Talk) 22:14, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

LA County Sheriff[edit]

Thanks for the help with my mistake of putting the stub in disambiguation. I updated the sheriff chain and list of LA County Sheriffs which pointed to a different John Scott. The sheriff will change again soon when the new elections come. The upcoming election will be the first truly ope election since 1915, making it 100 years. In the interval the sheriff would appoint his successor who would then be the incumbent at the election. The exception was the previous change, when the sheriff died during the election and still got one third of the vote. Law in LaLa land:-) Saltysailor (talk) 22:26, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of José Fernández (Chilean footballer)[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article José Fernández (Chilean footballer) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. GiantSnowman 19:47, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

The wp aiv[edit]

I thought that promoting your company was also against the rules here. Wgolf (talk) 20:01, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

@Wgolf: It is against the rules, but it is not necessarily vandalism. Whether or not edits are advertising or not is a more subtle question, and is dealt with in other places, e.g. WP:UAA. In short, most of the things you reported *should* be reported, just not necessarily at WP:AIV. Like I said, please review the details of what is and isn't vandalism on the link I showed you and I suspect it will be more clear. Thanks! Deville (Talk) 23:50, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Ha ha okay, thanks (Well better safe then sorry then), well I got it! Wgolf (talk) 23:50, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

The Ditto Crisis[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you protected The Ditto Crisis. To let you know I have opened a sock puppet investigation, as I believe that the user who kept re-creating the page is using multiple accounts to do so. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 03:16, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

(This even applies for infoboxes.)

Thanks and my best wishes.

Hi, I've modified the block on that IP address, it's actually an IPv6 address, not an account. I put 31 hours since it looked like normal vandalism, feel free to extend it if that isn't the case. HTH, Legoktm (talk) 05:38, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

@Legoktm: Woops, I didn't even notice it was an IPv6 and I thought it was an account (as you correctly deduced from my block actions). I'm definitely ok with your actions in light of that. Thanks for the message! Deville (Talk) 23:08, 5 March 2014 (UTC)
