GTRI FAC[edit]

Hi -- sorry it was archived; if you decide to renominate, let me know and I'll be happy to continue to review. I wish I could have got through the review a little faster but I've been pretty busy in real life. I enjoyed the article and I think it's in pretty good shape, and should pass FAC if enough reviewers look at it. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:49, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

It really annoys me when they close it while there's an active review going on, especially with the long time between reviewers - I guess I've just had a bad streak of relatively unnoticed FACs, including Glen P. Robinson, History of Georgia Tech, G. Wayne Clough, and now Georgia Tech Research Institute. How would you feel about just moving your review (and copying the existing bits from the FAC) to the talk page where there's no time pressure (I've got a bit of a busy life these days as well), and I'll renominate the article at FAC once you're ready to support? You're a great reviewer, thank you for taking the time to improve this article, and for your help on James E. Boyd (scientist) in 2011. Disavian (talk) 16:59, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
Well, if it would need more eyes, there's not a lot of point in letting it run -- it's not the delegates' fault there's a shortage of reviewers. I think it'll pass next time round. Yes, I'll move the review to the talk page and we can work on it from there. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 01:41, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Clough[edit]

Hi Disavian! Are you still interested in getting this back to FAC? I'd love to help you in terms of the prose. It seems like a good project. ceranthor 03:45, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

I haven't had a huge amount of time this past month, but yes, I'd like to get that one (and Georgia Tech Research Institute) back to FAC. Today's excuse: getting my A/C repaired. Disavian (talk) 18:29, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Okay, well I do want to help you out! Let me know when you're ready by posting at my talk page. ceranthor 05:38, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

WP:FOUR RFC[edit]

There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Please look at the second one, which I think is much better.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 06:26, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject GT[edit]

D - do you think it would be beneficial to add a section on the WikiProject GT page for "Did you know?" articles related to Georgia Tech similar to this page? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks - Mistercontributer (talk) 04:06, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

I didn't think we had that many DYKs? I suppose it wouldn't take too long to hunt down the ones we do have, there aren't that many articles in the project. Disavian (talk) 08:54, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
I am not sure how many we have. I will create a list of DYK articles in my sandbox to help determine the number. I was thinking if we had a section to track DYK articles we could use that section to encourage others to create GT related articles and submit for DYK. - Mistercontributer (talk) 03:02, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
D - so far I have identified 34 GT related articles which have been referenced in a DYK. These articles are currently listed in my sandbox. The DYK references are linked within the Did You Know? symbols. There are probably more GT related DYK articles out there which can be added to this list. Please let me know if you may create another section on the WikiProject GT page to list these GT related DYK articles? - Mistercontributer (talk) 04:08, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
D - do you plan on adding a section to WikiProject GT page for DYK articles related to Georgia Tech? If so, I will keep the list in my sandbox until you have time to add. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks - Mistercontributer (talk) 03:27, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
I can do that. I've been caught up in moving / starting a new job / making a new social network lately, so Wikipedia has taken a backseat to real-life responsibilities, thus only really looking at recent changes. Disavian (talk) 15:29, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
No rush - just whenever you have time. Thanks - Mistercontributer (talk) 02:09, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
I put it under "assessment" - how does that look? Disavian (talk) 05:45, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Looks great! Thanks for your help - Mistercontributer (talk) 23:14, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

History merges can be a little complex at times, so I appreciated the ability to add a bit more detail via the template. I like the change. :) Then again I'm a bit of a template addict, so there's that. Disavian (talk) 19:41, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

File:George Griffin Statue Georgia Tech.jpg[edit]

I wanted to let you know that I've deleted File:George Griffin Statue Georgia Tech.jpg due to the deletion discussion at WP:PUF. On En.WP we do have to be concerned with Freedom of Panorama (FoP) because quite simply, the statue is copyright owned by the owner. If we have photos of it, they are technically copyright violations. We cannot host copyright violations. This being the case, there are situations where we can keep images of copyright statues. The image can be tagged as free, but it would still require a non-free rationale for the statue. (See File:King of Kings Statue.jpg for a free photo, but not-free statue). Being that we would treat the file as non-free, it must meet all of the requirements of WP:NFCC. In its current use, the statue photo was used for identification, which is not acceptable per WP:NFCC (although a non-free photo would be, as a historical photo). If there were critical commentary (WP:NFCC#8) about the statue itself (which was only mentioned in the caption) probably in the legacy section that required the need for the average reader to see the statue to understand that part of the article, we could have the image. I know this is confusing and it is a lot of information. If you understand and can get the sourced commentary added, let me know (on my talk page or ping me) and I will restore the image myself. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Copyright is a messy thing. I dealt with the same issue you are going through over a year ago with the King of Kings Statue image. P. J. Daniels photo[edit]

You uploaded File:PJ Daniels.jpg seven years ago or so. Do you still have contact with the photographer? I'm not sure the rationale given is enough these days. There should be an OTRS ticket made I believe that will formally track the permission. Also, the author requested attribution in the caption whenever the image is used, and that's not typically how images are attributed, so I don't know if that changes the author's thoughts on releasing the copyright. Thanks. — X96lee15 (talk) 12:32, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Don't worry about the caption bit. Looks like his website moved, I updated that on the photo. His email is info@jamiehowell.net. Disavian (talk) 02:34, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Still think an OTRS ticket is needed. — X96lee15 (talk) 03:32, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Four "missing" GT All-Americans[edit]

Hey, Andrew. As part of a clean-up project for WikiProject College football, I recently created articles for four of your former Georgia Tech football players -- Ashel Day, Phil Tinsley, Jim Breland and Rock Perdoni. All four were consensus All-Americans, which is a Big Deal in college football, as I'm sure you know. I discovered your GT to-do list when I was double-checking the links for the new articles, and thought I would give you a head's up. BTW, there's an interesting story about Ashel "Bum" Day, if you can help piece it together: he was a consensus All-American under John Heisman in 1918, but finished his football career at UGA in 1920 and 1921, where he was All-Southern. Day was the first Southern player ever selected to Walter Camp's first team, which was a Very Big Deal at the time. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:20, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
