A welcome from Sango123[edit]

Hello, Drahcir, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We're glad to have you in our community! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Though we all make goofy mistakes, here is what Wikipedia is not. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. The Community Portal can also be very useful.

Happy editing!

Well, the usual advice applies. The most important step is to clear your browser cache. You could then try a different browser, turn on javascript debugging and see if anything crops up. Please let me know which browser and OS you're using if that all fails. Lupin|talk|popups 23:26, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.

Your comments to AfD pages[edit]

Please STOP!

You're not contributing to the discussion with comments such as "WHAT THE HECK!?!?". If you really must say something, just post to his user talk page (I'm talking about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bijan (designer)).

--Nishkid64 20:02, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, why are you even saying "What the heck?". I don't really understand why those comments are even necessary. There seems to be nothing really unusual going on.

P.S. Citing a reason such as "contentles" as a reason to delete an article is really not useful either. Most pages on Wikipedia start off small and gradually get bigger. I'm asking you to reconsider your vote to the AfD for Power and Interest News Report. --Nishkid64 20:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Also, don't base your opinion because "everyone else says so" as you did in this AfD. --Wafulz 18:14, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

While we're about it, please remove the image from your signature per WP:SIG: Images of any kind should not be used in signatures. (emphasis from the original). Thanks. Guy 16:59, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello. You may or may not remember this, but some time ago you signed up for a Hangman Tournament hosted here on Wikipedia. The next tournament is about to start, and I was just wondering if you were still interested in participating. If you are, please go to the page (linked above) and bold your name in the sign-up list. This will confirm your registration. If you are not interested any more, please feel free to remove your name from the list. If you haven't responded within 7 days, I will assume you are not interested, and remove you from the list.

Once you confirm your registration on the sign-up list, your waiting list spot will be confirmed. The first player on the waiting list who has confirmed their registration will be the first one to fill in any remaining spots that we may have.

If you think anyone else may be interested in this tournament, please drop them a note and ask them to sign up. Good luck, and I hope to see you at the tournament! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka Talk to me! 13:51, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Hello, Drahcir. You may or may not remember signing up for the Wikipedia Hangman Tournament, but the time has finally arrived for you to start your game! You have until 13:33, 24 December 2014 (UTC) to begin your game by typing {{Wikipedia:WikiHangman Tournament/New|~~~~}} on the corresponding round page. You should also visit your match page, as you will be able to see various aspects of your match.

I would also suggest:

If you have any questions at all regarding the procedures and rules of this tournament, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Thanks again, and good luck!

In case you are wondering why it took so long to begin this tournament, my computer was not operating correctly, and my Internet usage was limited to public computers. My opportunities to use public computers were limited, so needless to say, I didn't have a lot of time to commit to Wikipedia. So, sorry if this has caused you any inconvience. Good luck! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 02:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:WHMT[edit]

I've selected a word and started game 1. Please select your word and make your guess. Thanks! --Mike Straw 08:22, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Per the tournament rules, I am giving you your 24 hours notice. If you don't post a guess, you will forfeit game 1 of Round 1. Also, you must start game 2 (the one where you provide the word) within 24 hours or forfeit.--Mike Straw 10:31, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Hangman - round 2[edit]

You have forfeited round 1 on time. I've selected a word for me, and built the board for you, for Round 2. Good luck! --Mike Straw 11:41, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Once again, per the tournament rules, I am giving you your 24 hours notice. If you don't post a guess, you will forfeit game 1 of Round 2. Also, you must set the word for game 2 (the one where you provide the word) within 24 hours or forfeit it, as well, which will mean you forfeit the entire match.--Mike Straw 04:59, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Regarding your capitalization of Natural Resource[edit]

Drahcir, I was under the impression that Wikipedia article titles are not to be capitalized (except for the first letter) unless all the words are proper nouns like, for example, Great Britain or the United Nations ... see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings).

Would you please revert your capitalization edit of the Natural Resource article? Thanks, - mbeychok 02:43, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Adoption?[edit]

Of course I'd love to. However since I'm UTC+8 and I'm in the middle of exam, I might not respond in time. Hope you don't mind. What would you like to start with? From your signature and user page, it seems that you're pretty veteran even though you've less than 500 edits. --Deryck C. 05:13, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I've changed the userbox on your user page. Hope you like it. --Deryck C. 05:18, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

For policies, I can't really help much besides the ones concerning articles. To be frank, I myself am often caught in the middle of policy-related disputes with me being the "criminal". So for the community policies I really can't help much. Except one: WP:AGF - Assume good faith. Assume utmost faith upon even your opponents. At most view them as devil's advocates. Don't treat them as enemies.

Concerning article policies, you can have a look at WP:N and WP:ATT. They tell you what and how to give content to Wikipedia. About the style or genre of writing, you can actually look at existing articles, especially featured ones. They serve great examples. --Deryck C. 11:01, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh. How exactly did I become an admin? Well I first become fully immersed into Wikipedia around July 2005. I was involved in lots of WikiProjects, FAC, and many others. Later in October I ran for my first RFA - and failed. I got kind of depressed because of that, and though I signed up for admin coaching, I basically withdrew from Wikipedia from December 2005 to December 2006, with only occasional editing during those days. However, amidst all the misery, I managed to get an admin seat on the newly opened Cantonese Wikipedia in March 2006, and continued my editing there.
I didn't really return to English Wikipedia until late 2006 when I found that being an admin on the largest online encyclopedia in the world could give me some credit in applying for scholarships and other things. Moreover I understood that as Web 2.0 is roaming in, I have no chance to escape from Wikipedia even though some of my philosophy is different from that of the majority in here. So I returned and started my vigorous editing again. I focused on articles, mostly scitech or Hong Kong related ones. I resumed my admin coaching with a new, more prominent coach, Firsfron. He led me through all the preparation and I finally became admin in March 2007 under his guidance.
Talking about you - you're still green. But as you gain more exposure, people will know about you and guide your way up. When you become veteran enough, somebody will nominate you for adminship, usually upon your request. And a piece of advice: give some focus to article-writing. That helps, especially if you can help others bring articles to FA. Even a little effort towards an FA counts. --Deryck C. 06:33, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Oh. FA means Featured article. It's the highest-class article-writing honour on Wikipedia. --Deryck C. 04:30, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi...[edit]

Actually same here... I'm also writing mainly to tell you that I'm still (kind of) a Wikipedian and (though practically defunct) an admin. Sorry for not coming up in recent months - now that I moved to England, I have less time to spend on Wikipedia, which is much of a surprise even to myself.

How's stuff going on with Wikipedia recently? Actually I'm about to ask a question that I really should've asked a quarter of a year before - do you feel like graduating from the adoption programme? Given your continued contribution to the project and the absence of major conflicts, you're more than just qualified.

Graduation is an honour to both of us. And graduation does not mean a complete cut of the relationship between us - rather you're now a mature editor, and no more an "adoptee". I'll still drop by and leave a note if there's anything that we can do together. More - you can adopt others of your own!

Much thanks for your tolerance. --Deryck C. 21:25, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of AAAAAAAAAA...[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on AAAAAAAAAA..., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ArcAngel (talk) 23:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

March 2008[edit]

You seem to have created a nonsense page, so I blocked you for less than a minute. Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Bearian (talk) 23:40, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you still around recently? Just want to know what you're up to. --Deryck C. 19:44, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

That's good! At least you're still around correcting minor stuff - now that Wikipedia is nearly saturated with information, creating and expanding articles doesn't have much potential, but there are still loads of stuff to fix! Great work! Just want to tell you that you've been my adoptee for quite a long time already... Would you like to, erm, [[1]] from the program, and maybe join the AAU taskforce? Over this time I haven't given you much guidance... But I hope you enjoyed editing so far! --Deryck C. 22:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

You could be the last person I need! Read the rules! K, here ya go:

Gold barnstar.png Dear Drahcir,
You are lucky enough to have found a golden barnstar in one of my flavoured userboxes. I hope you enjoyed it. I certainly enjoy them. You will come to my factory at exactly 9:00 a.m. on the 31th-or is it 31st? I always forget-to see what it is like to make these wonderful boxes.

Til then,

Careful with that axe, Drahcir. You assume that I was vandalising the Dementia page, when, in fact, I was trying to revert several levels of vandalism, which you would have discovered if you had compared more previous edits. I thought that I had it right, but maybe there was a refresh issue with my browser. Very strange. 207.174.254.25 (talk) 10:36, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Please update your status with WP:VG[edit]

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Another gentle ping from WP:VG[edit]

Dear Drahcir,

You are receiving this message because either [[Category:WikiProject Video games members]] or {{User WPVG}} is somewhere in your userspace, and you are currently listed in the "Unknown" section on the project's member list.

The member list is meant to provide a clearer picture of active membership. It is recommended that you update your status if you plan to regularly:

Members listed in the "Unknown" section will be removed from the membership list and category at the end of January 2010. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker.
