  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

  • Translation Department: Can you read and write any languages of India? Do you know multiple languages and are looking to keep your skills at a high level or improve them? If so, the Translation Depeartment may be for you!

The translation department of the India WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to India for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

I saw your message on my talk page: [1]. I have an important news to break: I have learnt from a reliable source that Jimbo may be India (on his third visit within a span of few months!) on a day or two during the period (perhaps) 25th February, 2007 - 3rd March, 2007. Nothing is final yet - city, exact date, his schedules and so on. However, we should try to gather information and if his visit happens we should prepare for a meeting of Indian Wikipedians with him like the one we had at Bangalore on 29th September, 2006: An evening with Jimmy Wales. You may pass on the information to other Indian editors. I shall copy and paste this message on India Notice Board. His visit schedule may change too depending on many factors. Panjika[edit]

May the goddess Saraswati abide in us! (today being Saraswati Puja). Panjika in Bangla is nothing but a calendar. Did you go through the Hindu Calendar and also Bengali calendar - both eminently well written? Vijayanagara Empire[edit]

Hi. In the FAC discussion page, a new reviewer, user:Circeus has severely crticised my style of citations (which is in the same format as earlier FA's), called the citation style "patently wrong" and has opposed nomination. He went ahead and chopped most citations into a different format then I am used to providing. He seems to be the only one with a problem. Image copyright problem with Image:KolkataCofeehouse123.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:KolkataCofeehouse123.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

From what exists as of now, the image would still fall under the purview of fair-use, as it is a wikipedia-only permission. If you want the image to be used freely, get the author to write something on the lines "Permission is granted to use this image (link here) freely for any purposes, including commercial redistribution and modification." I know this is too much, but Wikipedia requires content to be truly free. Or you can ask the author to release it under any of the creative-commons licenses. If you get the permission to use the image by e-mail, you need to mail it to permissions (at) wikimedia (dot) org, attaching the permission. They would archive the permission on the servers and generate and OTRS ticket like you can see in this image. Since it is an image on flickr, it is best to ask the author to set the permission directly on the photograph, which would be easier for everyone to follow. If the author has specific requirement over use of the photograph, they can be covered using one of the tags such as {{CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat|Details here}}. Hope this helps.
