File:Hans Hagen.jpg[edit]

May I ask for some help? I don't know how to properly cite the licence or what exactly I need to do. Photo is nominated for deletion, I got author's permission, but I don't know how to use it in wikipedia. See File_talk:Hans_Hagen.jpg. Thanks. --Mojca Miklavec (talk) 21:12, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the answer. I didn't get any answer for quite a long time (I hope that my mail didn't go to spam), but I'll hold your word for it. Thanks. --Mojca Miklavec (talk) 12:32, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A case of WP:RS[edit]

Hi, ESkog.

I often monitor or improve software and computer articles in Wikipedia. I have recently noticed a couple of instances in which Wikipedians have cited from my blog! But is this considered to be reliable source? Is it not against WP:NOR or WP:SPS? Fleet Command (talk) 05:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I'll remove those citations and request other sources... But I won't persist. It's not a pleasant job denouncing yourself when others have reached a consensus to trust you. Fleet Command (talk) 07:24, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing of these pictures[edit]

Hi, ESkog.

How do you do? Looks like every administrator in Wikipedia is very busy nowadays, though I don't know what's exactly going on to keep you guys so busy.

Anyway, please look at these pictures and their licensing scheme:

Recently their licensing scheme has changed from Free to Copyrighted work. I am pretty sure that they DO qualify as free. But I thought perhaps I check with you, just to be sure. Don't you think they qualify as free work? Shall I go ahead, tag them as such and then transfer them to Wikimedia Commons?

Thanks. Fleet Command (talk) 16:23, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but how do I get a list of Commons Admins, so that I can contact one?

puppet resurfacing?[edit]

Hello ESkog, a sockpuppet which you recently blocked TVFAN24, [1] appears to have resurfaced once again as IP 98.223.95.42 and has reverted six television station articles to versions exactly of the type that this editor was previously utilizing sockpuppets to reinforce and had been previously warned up to level 4, not to perform. It appears to me that this editor is currently taking "advantage" of the situation surrounding an ongoing edit conflict between myself and editor User:Neutralhomer regarding editing practices concerning television station lists in order to rationalize an evasion of a permanent editing block. Is it possible for you to have a look at this situation? thanks again cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 20:39, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Wikipedia File Upload software[edit]

Hi, ESkog

Sorry to be bothering you but I have a question that I've already asked from standard outlets of Wikipedia and got no result, so I'm asking this from you. I hope you could help.

You have no doubt seen the Special:Upload. It has a Licensing drop-down combobox from which you can select a number of schemes. Now, some of the schemes, like {{Non-free computer icon}} or {{PD-text}} are missing from it. How, or who, can add these schemes to this list?

Thanks in advance.

Fleet Command (talk) 10:08, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, ESkog

I hope you're doing well. Here is another related problem which I hope you could help me resolve (well, actually not me, but Wikipedia and especially newbie uploaders):

I posted a change request in MediaWiki:Licenses and, as far as it makes sense to me, everything in that page is in perfect order. However, not everything in Special:Upload is in order. Look at this screenshot and you'll see: What it is and what should be.png

Thanks in advance, ESkog.

Thanks a bunch! You're the best administrator ever. Fleet Command (talk) 06:46, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Village pump[edit]

Hi. Could you please direct me to the Village Pump discussion which has led to the removal of the unsourced names of former television station personalities? You referenced it on July 1 with regard to several Chicago stations. Thanks. JTRH (talk) 21:02, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cease fire request from File:Alwaysupdate-adware-winspy.PNG[edit]

Hi, ESkog

File:Alwaysupdate-adware-winspy.PNG is in a very bad situation. It was nominated for deletion but each time, an admin comes by, removes the nomination and nominates it for a new reason. Say, aren't we Wikipedian supposed to not to toy with the laws? May I please ask you to go ahead and put an end to its misery per WP:SNOW? Please see to it that it is either kept or deleted once and for all; just end its status as being eternally marked for deletion and never deleted.

Actually, I was the one who first nominated for deletion per failure to comply with WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8. Fleet Command (talk) 07:18, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Wikipedia Upload Software ... Again.[edit]

Hello, ESkog.

How are you doing?

Looks like nobody in Help Desk or Talk pages is willing (or able to) answer me, so I have no choice but to ask you... Perhaps, you know the answer.

Here it is: Remember when I previously communicated with you about adding new licensing schemes to Wikipedia Upload software and you helped me? Well, those licensing schemes still do not appear properly: When user opens Wikipedia:Upload and clicks on "Screenshot" he does not have "Screenshot of a Microsoft product" in his licensing drop down box. To get this scheme, he has to select "Other" instead. Likewise, if the uploader select "Logo of [...]" he won't get "Logos with only simple typefaces ..."; again, to use this scheme, he has to select "Other" in Wikipedia:Upload.

So how can we make these licensing schemes appear in correct categories?

Fleet Command (talk) 12:15, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ESkog? Are you there? Fleet Command (talk) 18:12, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, nice to see you back again. I did notice your absence around August 20. I hope it was not illness. (I kept making myself think that it is schools starting up.)
And you are back right on time. I just figured it out. It was wild guess but nonetheless correct: I have posted an edit request to MediaWiki talk:Licenses/en-screenshot and it is pending an administrator's attention. Although that page is so obscure that I suspect it will remain a request for eternity unless you kindly review that request. Thanks in advance.

Removal of fair-use image from "Powers of the President of Singapore"[edit]

Hello, can I find out why you removed the fair-use image from "Powers of the President of Singapore"? I think there is enough discussion about the subject of the photograph to justify its use in the article, and it is the only non-free image in the article. You can respond here as I'll put this page on my watchlist. — SMUconlaw (talk) 14:49, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Discussion about the subject of the photograph is not sufficient to justify using an image, except for identification of the main subject of the article (as in Ong Teng Cheong). There would typically have to be some discussion about the photograph itself in order for it to be included in other articles. We can identify the powers of the president without using a copyrighted image to illustrate it. (ESkog)(Talk) 15:56, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. OK, then. — SMUconlaw (talk) 17:52, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Gaslamp Killer Image[edit]

Theo Jemison is the creator of the image. Is there another way I should state this on the comment page? Edisoncarter462 (talk) 17:59, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your suggestion.

The cartoon-like quality of the digitized image suggests that it is a contemporary impression (presumably rendered from the original portrait). No provenance is presented on the Nippon Foundation webpage from which I copied it, nor is more specific data made available on the website of the small local museum in Ishikawa Prefecture where the drawing likely originated.

In due course, perhaps another image can be substituted? --Tenmei (talk) 23:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

fair use rationale[edit]

I got that "low reso" thing from this image [2] because it was listed under examples of acceptable fair use rationales on the image use policy page. I have since found instructions for more thorough rationales. I'll improve these image use rationales. I can see at the bottom of the page that the image is categorized as missing a rationale. However, I suggest you change the example on the image use policy page to an image with an acceptable rationale so that other people aren't confused as I was. How do you do?[edit]

Hello, ESkog

How do you do?

Yeah, just dropped by to ask that; we know each other for a long time now and I never dropped by to ask how you're doing, or to congratulate you on being so active or thank you for being so. Every time I came here was either for advice or because I needed moral support. So, uncivil of me.

So, well done ESkog for being so active, thank you and ... how do you do?

Quark page photos[edit]

Hello. Can't see how the pictures you deleted can have copyright issues, as they all have been clicked by the students' photography club on our campus - no material from websites or print. The logo has been done by a student body as well. So, allow me to put them back. Cheers.

Hi, i noticed recently that you reverted the insertion of my image "Johnsy88 red.jpg(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Johnsy88_red.jpg) " due to the fact it was copyrighted. The image belongs 9to myself, the photo was taken and edited by myself via PhotoShop and was uploaded from my own computer for use on my WP profile (with what i thought was the correct copyright). If the copyright is incorrect then would you be able to point me in the right direction of which copyright i need to use so that i can host this image on my WP user page. If you could help me with this it would be much appreciated. Thanks Johnsy88 (talk) 14:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ultima3000 accused blatant hoax[edit]

"It is not a sandbox for your made-up nation, and it's not a free hosting service for your uploaded images. If you would like to contribute to the encyclopedia, please do; but if you are only here to host your micronation's web site, please find a more appropriate corner of the Internet."

That "site" to my "made-up" nation was indeed a sandbox, but only until the sources were published. I intended to publish the article once I had the sources. I only uploaded images for the article and nothing else. I now realise how you even stumbled upon my article, and I apologize for changing an image in one of your articles. I take Wikipedia seriously and would not place false information on it, and because the Haven Empire is an actual nation, although not recognized by America, I believe it is notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. I have no intention of "hosting" a web site, just creating an article and editing it when facts change and new events occur. F.Y.I. I live in Forestein and am kin to the Premier himself. I personally know GSG Stalling and have met GSG Strowski, so you cannot make me believe for an instant that the Haven Empire is a hoax. -Ultima3000 20:45, 14 December 2010 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ultima3000 (talkcontribs)

Your removal of links to a completely free comprehensive design for certain software systems[edit]

You just deleted several appropriate external links to a valuable resource associated with several software systems that are on wikipedia. There is absolutely no charge or fee of any kind associated with accessing this resource. It is a massive multi- diagram design document that provides users who are curious to understand the inner workings of the software of these systems a complete and comprehensive design document about these systems.
