Hercules operators

Eric, I've reverted your last edit. When details of operators are moved to another article we are leaving list of countries, just like in C-47 Skytrain case. I've reformatted this list into two column layout and now is much shorter. In that revert I've changed some fixed width images per WP:MOS. Regards, Piotr Mikołajski 08:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Percival Mew Gull

Ericg, I appreciate your efforts in the rewrite and editing of the article, which I agree is still a lengthy and unwieldy concoction. I also noted your latest comment that also appeared in the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft. The issue that I had was not specifically the edit war which I assumed was merely the actions of a newcomer unfamiliar with the Wikipedia forum but the "real" problem I felt was the derogatory and demeaning comments made by this editor, e.g. "anorak," "childish","petty," "ignorant" and these comments were just made today on his/her talk page. I stand by my belief that the issue has deteriorated rather than improved. Bzuk 22:17, 11 May 2007 (UTC).

Cessna 162

Hi Eric, Thanks for the links. I thought that the spelling "SkyCatcher" in the press release was a bit inconsistent with previous Cessna names such as "Skyhawk", "Skylane", "Skyhook", etc. It is really hard to get aircraft nomenclature in Wikipedia right when the manufacturer can't even agree how to spell it! Let's leave it the way it is there then and see if Cessna manages to come with an internal consensus on how they want to spell it! Ahunt 11:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

G650 and Columbus

Eric, I helped put together or reorganize the G650 and Columbus pages, and did some research on both types' lineage. From what I can tell, the G650 isn't really a variant of the G550, though it is somewhat based on it, especially its avionics - Gulfstream calls it "all-new". There is a dicussion on the talk page there on the issue that you might check out. As to the Citation Columbus, what I found said it was based on the Citation X, but no major components seems to be carried over directly. I listed both in the "See also" (nee "Related content") section, but decided not to put the links in the infoboxes. Project

Greetings! I am working on a project for my grandfather's birthday. I want to get prints of all the planes he has flown and frame them for a board room in his office. I was interested in using a photo of your Globe Swift for this project. I was wondering if I could buy/use a high-res file or print. The final size I need is 8x10. If you had any other prints of the plane while in flight, that would be great.

Center of lift

Hi Eric! In September 2006 you created a new article Center of lift. You left no reference or citation to support the new article. On 31 May 2008 Mattisse drew attention to this deficiency by inserting a banner saying this article does not cite any references or sources. Recently I inserted a banner saying the factual accuracy of the article is disputed, to draw attention to the discussion I started on the talk page. I have proposed that if it is not possible for the content of the article to be substantiated it should be deleted or redirected to center of pressure. Hi Eric. I see you have redirected Center of lift to Aerodynamic center. I think that is a very good decision.

In your text on Center of lift it stated that CL was applicable to the whole aircraft. As I’m sure you are aware, Aerodynamic center is defined only for an airfoil so it is meaningful to talk about the AC of the wing (and fuselage), and the AC of the horizontal stabilizer, but not of the whole aircraft. Some authors refer to the neutral point (stick-fixed) as the whole-aircraft equivalent of the aerodynamic center.

Thanks for the two external links to sites that mention center of lift. You described both as well-regarded. Both appear to be aimed at providing a gentle introduction to beginners. They would not be well-regarded by most pilots and engineers. The document you quoted, H. H. Hurt's Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators, is greatly superior to both the websites you quoted.

The Av8n website is reasonable. I particularly agree with its statement:

I reiterate: the center of lift of the whole airplane is always very, very nearly aligned with the center of mass of the whole airplane. Otherwise the aircraft would not be in equilibrium.

The Allstar.fiu website is for beginners and I have no objection to any of it except the final sentence which states:

If the CG gets too far forward or too far aft of the CL the aircraft will be out of balance and difficult, if not impossible, to control.

This is entirely incorrect. Contrast this sentence with the one I quoted above from the Av8n site! The Allstar.fiu website has an email contact address so I have written to that address giving them my explanation of why I think this sentence is seriously incorrect. I ended up by suggesting they change the sentence to state:

If the CG gets too far forward or too far aft the aircraft may be difficult to control, or may be at risk of being overstressed.

I will watch the Allstar.fiu with interest to see if they change the offending sentence!

Balanced flight

Hi Eric. Wikipedia has an article titled Balanced flight. It looks like nonsense to me, so on 1 July I attached the banner "The factual accuracy of this article is disputed" and posted my understanding of the matter on the Talk page. I was hoping an enlightening discussion among professional pilots would quickly resolve the matter but so far no-one has added anything. Perhaps no-one has seen my contribution yet! I've made some cosmetic changes to {{Ref Jane's}} (a documentation subpage), but wanted to get your feedback on some other, more substantial changes. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

• Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license.
