You are invited to the first ever Oxford Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Four Candles, 51 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2BE on Sunday 4 November 2012 from 1.00 pm.

I hope as many people as possible will be able to attend so that we can make this a regular event. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Oxford related topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:10, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Philafrenzy, I'm actually not back in Oxford until next year, it sounds like a really good initiative though and I'll definitely try to come along when I return. Extua (talk) 11:33, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Communist Party of Britain flag[edit]

I've made the flag you added display properly. I just bracketed the file code :-) That was a good idea to add the flag, the page looks a lot better :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Netsurfer123 (talkcontribs) 10:27, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

aha, thanks. Plus I think you're right about changing the ideology back to communist, I wasn't sure about it at the time. There's a parameter on the wikibox somewhere for an election logo, I was thinking of including the hammer and dove if I can get permission from the party office. Orphaned non-free media (File:Flag of the Communist Party of Britain.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Flag of the Communist Party of Britain.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:55, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 17[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Communist Party of Britain, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Labour Party (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. May 2013[edit]

Information icon Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist–Leninist) has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. Please use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did, and feel free to use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do. Thank you. RolandR (talk) 16:07, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I left a message about my edit on your talk page a few weeks ago about this and you didn't repsond, then someone else complained on the article talk page that you'd spelt 'CPGBML' wrong as 'CPGMML' and you didn't respond, so I fixed it. I restored the abbreviations and that was what I wrote in the edit summary. My summary was accurate and if you want to have a discussion about it I suggest you use the talk page.
As it happens I think the abbreviation tag is necessary because CPGBML is an abbreviation and it's used quite frequently in the article, not everyone is familiar enough with the CPGBML to know what the abbreviation stands for and the abbreviation tag is there to explain it. The tag is not superfluous and removing it does not improve the article. Alternatively, if you really don't like abbreviation tags for some reason, consider changing 'CPGBML' to just 'the party'. Extua (talk) 17:50, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see from your latest edit that you just went ahead and corrected your spelling mistake in the article. Extua (talk) 14:19, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Meetup 6[edit]

Thank you for attending the fifth Oxford Meetup, and it was a pleasure meeting you. I intended to send this message on Monday, but I've been a bit busy, sorry.

Several of us would like to continue with the monthly plan, since trying to make a two-monthly cycle fit into the University terms doesn't work very well. A page has been created about the sixth Oxford Meetup; please sign up if you think that you are able to attend - if the date or venue are unsuitable, please comment at its discussion page.

Please spread the word to anybody else who you think might be interested. The next UK meetups are at: London, 16 June; Manchester, 22 June; and Coventry, 7 July. --Redrose64 (talk) 14:05, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it was pointed out to me that 7 July 2013 collides with Coventry 8, who have a prior claim to the date. Since nobody has (yet) claimed 14 July for any UK meetups, I have decided that Oxford 6 should be held on 14 July 2013, and not 7 July as previously advertised. In this way, those who wish to attend both may do so. I hope the revised Oxford date is convenient for you; and if it isn't, why not give Coventry a try? --Redrose64 (talk) 15:42, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

On that basis then could I replace the 2nd paragraph with the following -
Griffiths was born in Cardiff where he attended Bryn Hafod primary school and Cardiff High School.[1] Employed as Plaid Cymru research officer from 1974 until 1979[citation needed], he published Sosialaeth i'r Cymry (Socialism for the Welsh People) with Gareth Miles in July 1979[2][3][4]. In January 1980 he was involved in founding the Welsh Socialist Republican Movement (WSRM)[5][4]. He has also previously served as Welsh president of the white-collar union AUEW-TASS.[6]

Replaceable fair use File:Robert Griffiths, Britain Needs Socialism, 2011.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Robert Griffiths, Britain Needs Socialism, 2011.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 18:57, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
