Disambiguation link notification for July 18[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited List of newspapers in Pakistan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hyderabad (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Page moves[edit]

Hello. I've noticed the change you made at this article, which you copied to the Sindh Medical University page[1]. Because a page history lists everybody who helped make the article, it's really quite important to use the page move function if you need to change the name of a page.

Unfortunately, it looks like a large part of this article was correctly tagged as a copyright violation (appears to have been copied from here), so I'm going to go ahead and undo the changes you made, and then refactor the Sindh Medical College page to remove the text. If you feel that the page needs to be renamed again, please go ahead and move it. --Michael Billington (talk) 07:13, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello again. I've just also noticed Blogs (disambiguation). Disambiguation pages are used to clear up confusion when one word has many different meanings. All of these articles (except for one) seem to be about different types of blogs (as in weblogs), so it is probably not necessary to disambiguate. Please see this page for details. I have proposed that Blogs (disambiguation) be deleted. --Michael Billington (talk) 07:27, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
On an unrelated note, these edits came up on my watchlist, but I don't understand what they are for. They run in alphabetical order, so it seems like you are going over the articles methodically. Please note that to help out other editors, you could flag these edits as minor, allowing them to be hidden from watchlists. You could even request for a bot to do them instead, or avoid making the edits at all if they achive nothing. --Michael Billington (talk) 07:59, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
Dear Michael Billington, With all your due respect, This is entirely different article, its not related to Sindh Medical Collage, its properly accredited university now, therefore Sindh Medical Collage has to redirect to Sindh Medical University anymore therefore restoring page again, along with updated content. -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 20:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. In comparing these revisions ([2] [3]), I can see that I've made a mistake and that they are un-related. Keep up the good work. --Michael Billington (talk) 07:20, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Dear Michael Billington, On your advice I have improved Blogs (disambiguation), I hope you appreciate it, thanks again for your advice -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 20:19, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Great work, the page has improved a lot! --Michael Billington (talk) 07:20, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Are you ok?[edit]

Dear Faizan, I notice that you have been absent from Wikipedia for a few days. It's uncharacteristic, so I hope you are not ill. Please accept my good wishes. I just wanted to see if you are fine. Regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 20:54, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear Brother George,
Thanks alot highly appreciated brother, thanks a lot for asking and taking care of my self, honestly appreciated, yes brother, I was away because as I am Muslim and this is Holy month of Ramadan going on in our country, and in this month we fast and try to pray as much as we can and ask for mercy and blessing of almighty God Allah for us in order to decrease the amount of sins in our life, this month comes once in a year according it Islamic Calender therefore I was bit busy in this, after fasting and working full day, I really got much tired therefore was not using much Wikipedia as this month has started and I am trying to use to it therefore I will try to contribute on daily bases again. :) thanks for asking about me again brother.-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 19:47, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Ramadan kareem, Faizan. I wish you a blessed and enriching month. I am pleased your absence is for such a joyous reason. I was a bit worried. Now I feel happy. Best wishes, George. George Custer's Sabre (talk) 19:54, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Western Australian topics[edit]

Hi - I appreciate your enthusiasm, but sourcing of those articles requires access to book sources published in Western Australia (due to a near-complete lack of reliable information online), which in many cases requires (at least) a trip to a university library by one of our somewhat diminished pool of editors, and sourcing something like an election requires a fair bit of work. Telling editors from the outside where to direct their energies on a whim also looks more than slightly rude to those who have worked hard to get the articles to where they were at (most of the election articles are in fact shell articles for the results sections which I compiled from book sources 4 or so years ago). I'd suggest backing off a little and, if you think there's particular issues with particular statements within articles, maybe we can address those with the limited manhours we have available. Orderinchaos 14:40, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Could you also explain edits like [4] scattered throughout your recent edits? You've edited the edit count on your user page 12 times in 24 hours, which is probably setting some kind of record. Orderinchaos 14:56, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Dear Orderinchaos, With all your due respect, I highly appreciated and respect your kind concern regarding articles, and honestly, I am the person who always support hard working therefore I certainly respect your work as well, and I will take care of that, with all your due respect again kindly try to provide name of book, or valid sources and some cases we can certainly avoid citations, to respect good faith policy for other editor, If you need my help, kindly let me know, I will more than happy to assist you with that, and I came across with few books, I will try to search them again, if you kind those books which talk about elections kindly do provide citations, thanks.:-)-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 15:08, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Again, with all your respect, just would like to remind you here that according to Wiki User Page policies every single Wikipedian has full permission to personalize his or her user page with his or her wish, I hope you appreciate and respect it.:-)-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 15:13, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Indeed - it just made me wonder what your purpose for making the "citation needed" edits was when, in between, you would return to edit your edit count, as if you were only making the edits to run up the count. I may have read that entirely wrongly, but that was the impression I received, particularly as I have seen people doing this before in order to get adminship or some other perceived reward.
In answer to your question, the main sources one needs for WA election coverage between 1980 and 1996 are the individual results volumes (titled "Statistics...") published by the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia (I am missing 1989's but have or have photocopies of the other ones; 1989 is only found in a library which charges 20 cents per page for photocopies!); that provides the totals and seat-by-seat information. The exact titles are all in the State Library of WA's catalogue, they vary from edition to addition. It is worth noting that these sources occasionally markedly differ from UWA's election project online - in every case where I've bothered to investigate, the book sources have been right and the website has been wrong. At the time I focused on getting the results exactly right, as it was needed for an essay I was doing as part of my studies.
The Australian Financial Review newspaper (published by Fairfax) and the West Australian newspapers provide good general overview, although the West's coverage is somewhat biased towards one of the parties (this is an ongoing problem in covering WA stuff, as the West is the state's only daily newspaper.) A left-leaning publication called National Times (which finished up in 1988 and is not related to Fairfax's online site of the same name) also covered political events on a monthly basis.
A couple of book journals covering politics cover the elections (except for 1986) in some detail, such as Current Affairs Bulletin, Politics and so on, whilst the Australian Journal of Politics & History's "Political Chronicle" periodic segment contains a writeup of politics generally in the period (I have those on my hard drive). The 1911 election is interesting due to the odd nature of sources - you'll see I've used two history books for those, but other sources, while meeting Wikipedia's "reliable sources" criteria, are highly biased - the West Australian newspaper strongly favoured the Liberal government of the day, as did the Sunday Times, Western Mail and some country newspapers, while the Kalgoorlie Miner and the Argus strongly favoured the Labor opposition. Even basic facts were in disputation between the two camps! At some stage when I have time, I do intend to complete these, as I found all the "missing links" over about 6 weeks of research between Battye Library and UWA, and photocopied or photographed hundreds of pages, but never got around to it and my work and family demands make that much more difficult than they did in 2008 (additionally, I lost a lot of my reference material for 1911 in a hard disk crash in mid-2009, which I'd spent literally weeks accumulating). Orderinchaos 15:39, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, let me tell you something, as I said, I honestly do respect senior editors, therefore I do not want to argue with you on anything and as far as Admin ship is concern, I honestly dont want any for now, I am busy in improving our beloved Wikipedia, If I want I can certainly apply for it and may be get it, I am qualified for that, and as far as Citation Needed is concern, If there is Requirement of Citation what should I have to do leave it blank, we are here to improve Wikipedia therefore, I honestly try to improve it, well, its the way of my editing everyone has different way of serving our beloved Wikipedia, I am not going against any policy of Wikipedia, now listen what I do, I first, ask for citation by marking them to author or any other editor and then if I do have time so I prefer to search citations and edit them you saw one side didnt you see, I am also improving citations as well I am member of citations project, and we should not fight and we should believe in universal brotherhood, I am respecting you and you are keep disrespecting me, I dont know, but your sentences are showing some kind of anger in you anyways, I am not that sort of person.-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 17:45, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Now about election articles very good research appreciated, pleasure talking, thanks bye. -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 17:45, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Can I chime in here? Edits like this are not especially helpful; we don't require a cite for every single sentence, especially when it's unambiguous fact covered in other sources already listed. As Orderinchaos said, your enthusiasm is appreciated, but it's coming off as more than a little high-handed. Frickeg (talk) 22:49, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear Frickeg, I certainly appreciate your concern regarding article, you are certainly correct however few are really does not require citations but this specific article really does you might gave a wrong example, because if you would be kind enough to read it again, which is saying about the statement of his work experience, it should be some where if not then we can avoid it, but technically its required. Thanks for your kind comment again appreciated. :-)-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 13:35, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
That was just one example; there have been many similar edits I've seen on my watchlist, and in this case it took me literally five seconds to transfer the cite that was already in the external links section to the entirely uncontroversial statement. I'm not sure what your intent is with these edits in any case, but they're coming across a lot like drive-by tagging, and, as Orderinchaos said, the repeated changes to your edit count create a certain impression, which I'm sure you'd rather avoid. (Edit: just seeing the comment on Jeff Bate. We really don't have many editors at the Australian politics project at the moment, and we have literally thousands of similar biographies that could do with an expansion, including many that are far, far briefer. If you can expand an article yourself, that's great, but putting notes on talk pages demanding expansion appears, to be frank, a bit rude. I'm sure this isn't your intention, but it's the way it comes across.) Frickeg (talk) 15:47, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, with all your due respect, I am really not agree about this statement, what I call it, I guess, its matter of opinion, what you think or what I believe and nothing else, instead of arguing about it, lets conclude it, my apologies if you think they were non constructive edits however I still think they were constructive, I will try to make them more constructive, as we all are here to improve our beloved Wikipedia am I correct? as you are both are senior editors, I certainly do respect your and Mr. Orderinchaos comments therefore I will certainly take care of these things in future, I would more than happy, if you and Orderinchaos would be kind enough to guide me in future as well as you did now, honestly appreciated thanks a lot for you kind comments, keep in touch, thanks. -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 16:11, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
As you gave example of article Jeff Bate, you might didnt see I did improve it as well, you should appreciate me for that, and honestly I really dont have any intentions to be rude or anything like that, Posting the message and asking for improvement is not bad gesture, I think its more polite way to ask for contribution with any reader or editor and I really do not mean I am not improving it, It means I have already improved it now I am seeking for help that specific article, however I will certainly change the text of message as well, I am agree with you on some points but disagree with few as well, so I will certainly take care of that as I am working on back log of all Australia related articles I am trying to improve Australia Project articles and trust me you can count on me, I will certainly not let you guys down. -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 16:13, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
You say we are all here to improve Wikipedia, and my concern (and I think Orderinchaos's as well) is that a lot (though by no means all) of your recent edits aren't really doing that. (I acknowledge the tidying up that went on at Bate and at other pages.) Having looked through your recent contributions, I'm seeing the exact same message on talk page after talk page after talk page. In fact, by my count, in the last two days you have added an identical carbon-copy message to the talk pages of over 100 pages. Please stop doing it; it's high-handed and rude, and achieves precisely nothing. The same thing could apply to 99% of all Wikipedia pages, the vast majority of which are not even close to complete or comprehensive. Changing the actual text doesn't change the problem; every single article requires expansion, and putting a note on every single talk page is pretty much spam. With all due respect, you cannot possibly be seeking help on improving a hundred articles specifically. The talk page notices do nothing except irritate other editors by repeating something that should go without saying.
Going back a little further, I see a whole ton of edits that simply added Template:Talk header to another couple of thousand talk pages, none of which have a single talk comment on them. If you'd read the documentation for the template, you would know that (to quote directly) "it is intended to be used on particularly active talk pages", and that "calm talk pages do not need this template". As I said above, your enthusiasm is admirable but please slow down a little and make sure you're actually doing useful work, not just making edits for the sake of it.
I guess the thrust of my problem is this: instead of endlessly adding templates or requiring citations for uncontroversial statements, how about actually working on some content, or doing some new page patrolling, or working through some of the cleanup backlogs? You have the right idea with the stubs backlog, but what the stubs really need to stop them being stubs is substantial new content, rather than restructuring. You seem to have boundless energy, which is great; I just think it could probably be better directed.
I understand that you're not trying to be rude, but it's important to understand how it's coming across. I know you are trying to be polite with the talk page messages, but it's actually having the opposite effect. Part of Wikipedia's nature is that every article is sitting there needing improvement.
Finally, thank you very much for the barnstar, it's much appreciated. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if there's anything I can help you with. Frickeg (talk) 16:33, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Marc Bernaus[edit]

Hi there FAIZAN, AL from Portugal here,

took me a while but i found the refs you requested in this footballer's page. Only found them in Spanish, but that's ok by WP guidelines. Also, i apologize if my summary was out of order.

One thing you will have to bear with me please: in thousands of articles i have seen/edited in the subject of soccer, never have i seen a section called "silver category" like the one you inserted, that "silver category" (another way of writing Segunda División without sounding repetitive, other ways could be "second division", "division two" or "second level") is part of his club career, and that title already exists.

I have also provided refs for Albert Celades. Attentively, happy weekend - --AL (talk) 01:33, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Well no reply, i guess you really must have been offended by my summary. Can't be apologizing until the cows come home, as you may understand, exaggerated as it was and i admit/regret it. Happy editing/life, goodbye --AL (talk) 13:37, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Zaytuna College[edit]

Dear Faizan, I hope you are well. I hope Ramadan was enjoyable and meaningful for you. I would be very grateful if you would please help me to keep the page Zaytuna College neutral. One editor, User:Zaytuna Editor, violates third-party, sources and neutral point of view guidelines by repeatedly pasting information and adding sources from the College itself. Can you please have a look at his or her edits, and my comments on his or her talk page. Thanks so much. Best wishes, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 22:51, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Yusuf Estes[edit]

Dear Faizan, I hope you are well. I feel powerless to prevent the vandalism occuring on the Yusuf Estes page. An editor -- User:Muslim Online -- repeatedly posts unreferenced and clearly partisan POV material that violates WP:BLP guidelines. I could continue to revert the edits to remove this content in accordance with the ruling that "contentious material about living persons (or recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion", but I am afraid that my own actions might be misconstrued as edit warring and that I could be accused of violating Wikipedia's three-revert rules.

Please see if you can help, or at least give me some useful advice.

Thanks you and best wishes, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 20:14, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Barelvi[edit]

Hello Faizan, I hope you are doing well. Could you please watch the Barelvi page over the next few days. I don't want to get into an edit war, or violate the three-revert rule so I wonder if you could please take a look at the page and its recent edits. Created article claims[edit]

Why do you claim to have created the Stephen Sauvestre article? The Wikipedia article traffic statistics [5] shows that the article existed before 10 December 2012, when you claim to have created it. Where is the previous history of the article? This is not the first article you have claimed to have created which existed before your claim. I am very suspicious of your activities. Could you please explain what you are doing. Cuddy Wifter (talk) 20:55, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for showing your kind concern for betterment of our beloved Wikipedia, thats highly appreciated, with all your due respect, I am the person who did create the article, you may see the history of page creation where you may read this (cur | prev) 00:13, 10 December 2012‎ Faizanalivarya (talk | contribs)‎ . . You did not create the article Stephen Sauvestre. As I pointed out, the Wikipedia article traffic statistics for December 2012 [6] shows that the article existed before 10 December 2012. Statistics for November 2012 [7] and October 2012 [8] also show the article existed before your claim for creation. Please explain how this is possible. You may also like to explain your claim for creation of Preston, Tasmania on 1 July 2012 when the stats show it existed in May 2012 [9] and your claim for Victoria Dock (Hobart) on 12 June 2012 when it existed in May 2012 [10]. Others dubious claimed article by you include Micronesian passport, Halifax Community College and Vinay Virmani. Please address these anomalies in your editing. Thanks for showing your kind interest in the article, but with all your due respect, the images which you are talking about they were taken by me along with my few very close friends on the trip to Kashmir, and If you have an objection about images you should remove images why you are keep removing infobox and other informative sources therefore kindly do not revert until its necessary and that would be appreciated if you would be kind enough to leave a message on talk page before editing, trust me I honestly appreciated your kind concern of improving our beloved wikipedia but I am just disagree with the way which you have choosen is not correct, In nut shell, (A) I am whole and soul owner of those image and (B) Please do not remove the informative sources i.e Map, Infobox and Facts. -- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 00:40, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
Whilst the pictures remain on other websites as copyright with all rights reserved by an author not yourself they must not remain. As for the rest (infobox etc), why, for example, did you place the Leepa Valley in the south west of England via coordinates!!, where it remains until I revert again. If you do not want your edits reverted it would be a very good idea to try very, very hard to exercise reasonable care and check your work, rather than leaving the rubbish behind and rushing off to update your edit count. Please do not confuse me with User Crusoe8181. I have above pointed out to you 3 sites which contain photographs which you claim to be your own work. How can you claim these images as your own work when they are clearly the work of others. Your name does not appear on these sites as the photographer. Will you please admit that you are in breach of the copyright of these photographers. Cuddy Wifter (talk) 00:52, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Dear Cuddy Wifter,
With all your due respect, I never said that was my own work, I was work of my very good friend and few pictures were taken by me, I just uploaded after his permission.-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 15:57, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Each of the images is described as by Faizan Munawar Varya. The source of each is shown as Own work. The license attached to each image says Use this license for your own work. And yet you say I never said that was my own work. Your fingerprints are all over these images. Please remove them from Wikipedia. Cuddy Wifter (talk) 21:54, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Coords of Leepa Valley[edit]

I do not need to look again, thanks. I look once and report. Were you not so obdurate I should have quietly corrected but as you are so I would prefer that you look again and correct. Regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:01, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your kind concern sir, I did have a look on it and did improved it, keep in touch and keep guiding me as a senior.-- Faizan Munawar Varya chat contributions 16:00, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
You did not! Leepa Valley remains where you put it (in southwest England); if you do not want me to revert your edits please put Leepa Valley back where it belongs (in Pakistan) regards Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:11, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, sorry I cannot disclose my phone number here but we can communicate over e-mail.

Btw, it was good to know that you've already created WM Pakistan page on FB but that's not surprising at all. I know there are plenty of online groups of Pakistani Wikipedians but none of them is recognized by Wikimedia nor they're providing a single platform for the Pakistan Wikipedians. Waiting to see your email in my mailbox. Thanks

BACKLOG OF THE WEEK Category:Pages with broken reference names[edit]

Hello - some editors fight off the vandal hordes, as I do repairing pages with citation errors. If I didn't - there would be a large backlog in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting and in Category:Pages with missing references list as in Category:Pages with broken reference names (more than 1500 yesterday). But it is impossible to work it alone. Do you know how to do a "Blitz" (excuse the comparision) to find willing editors to work on it. It is much more easier to repair references if you do it one hour, one day or one week ago after the errors were made instead of months and years after the error was done. Very, very difficult to find these errors.

Only with WikiBlame Search it is possible to find and repair such errors.

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews[edit]

Hello Faizanalivarya. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).
