Main page appearance[edit]

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this list know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on January 30, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/January 30, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 07:03, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Seeking consensus on when to edit File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg following new legislation/court-rulings[edit]

Hello, I have noticed you made edits on File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg and/or File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg/Archive 5, so I am contacting you to take part in a newly-formed discussion at File talk:Samesex marriage in USA.svg as for whether we should update the map directly when a new legislation or court-order hits the books or if we should wait until said action takes effect. Historically, we have been updating the map when the new legislation is signed (or veto overrode or won at the ballot box, etc.), and thus it can be inferred that the consensus is to update as soon as one of those occurs. A discussion has emerged in regards to whether we should begin updating from the effective date instead of from the date of signing/etc. If you have an opinion over this matter please post it at File_talk:Samesex_marriage_in_USA.svg#When_to_update_map.3F_Effective_date_or_signing.2Fruling_date

Hi. When you recently edited Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Robert Morris and John Chamberlain (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Left a few more notes, fairly small stuff, I think you're good to nominate it for GA when you're ready. Quite an amusing/interesting piece you've written there! Mark Arsten (talk) 18:35, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sacred Cod found.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sacred Cod found.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 09:05, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Discussion on when to update File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg[edit]

Hello, there is a discussion here concerning when we should update this map (when a new law/court order/etc. is made or when it goes into effect). You are being contacted because you participated in a similar discussion a few months back. If you are interested, please stop by and leave your opinion. Wikipedia Help Survey[edit]

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,

Photo of Gift of the Wind (Porter Square)[edit]

Hi Found5dollar, and thanks for your edit to the Porter Sq article. I found the photo of "Gift of the Wind" in the article for "Arts on the Line." I'm not entirely clear what the issue is with the license for the image. Would an original photo I upload be acceptable?--Vistawhite (talk) 04:23, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi Vistawhite. There is no problem with the actual photo, the problem is with the artwork. "Gift of the Wind" is still under copyright in the USA so pictures of it are not allowed on Wikipedia unless it is for an article directly about the work. This is explained at WP:NFCI.--Found5dollar (talk) 13:54, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Candy desk[edit]

Hi, I saw that you're on extended wikibreak here, but I'd like to work on improving this article towards GA and FA, and it won't take much. You did very good work. I will of course include you as a conom in any nomination.--Wehwalt (talk) 09:38, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Thank you very much for letting me know about this. I got the article as far as i could a year or so ago and haven't really touched it since. I havejust recently been having a bit of a wiki breakdown over an article that another editor destroyed, and I just didn't have the time or energy to fight it. I may be back around these parts sooner than I planned. If you need any help feel free to ask.--Found5dollar (talk) 02:01, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, I'd be happy to work with you on it. I've been moving the references to the end to avoid cluttering the text and using cite templates, to which I hope you don't object. The article needs a little updating, some minor tweak to the prose, and there's some information that I'd like to see if it could be found, like who's filling it while Sen. Kirk is out sick.--Wehwalt (talk) 05:54, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Toronto Light Opera Association[edit]

Dear Found5dollar: Some time ago you reviewed the article Toronto Light Opera Association. It was my first article and fI picked a topic (atypically, I have since found out) that many editors were interested in, and I was getting a lot of conflicting advice. I eventually made several trips to a large library and found some microfilmed newspaper reviews to fill out the details about the organization. You offered to take another look at the page when it was more developed. I haven't found anything new to add for a while now, so I guess it's ready if you have the time. Thanks —Anne Delong (talk) 22:13, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Fitchburg State College Seal.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:Fitchburg State College Seal.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:19, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England
Wikimania 2012 portrait 102 by ragesoss, 2012-07-13.JPG

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:
