Categories[edit]

Hey Morten! I need your help again. :) Can you delete this: Category:Olympic rugby union footballers by year because there is already this: Category:Olympic rugby union players by year? And can you rename this: Category:Rugby union footballers at the 1900 Summer Olympics because in 1908, 1920, and 1924 the categories are named players instead of footballers? Thanks in advance! :) Doma-w 17:33, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Or we have to rename all categories with players to footballers? E.g. Category:Rugby union footballers. For rugby union they are footballers and for rugby league they are players. So we had to use the trem footballers?? Doma-w 06:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Two more days of thinking, I remembered your advice to use {{db-g7}} so I think I have solved the problem. :) Doma-w 12:15, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD closing as delete[edit]

Per this AfD, I closed it as delete because I was unaware that the process had changed. This message (concerning this) gave me the impression that it was OK. However, if you wish me not to close debates as delete, I will consider it. Giggy Talk 22:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with you. At times, there is a long list of unclosed AfDs. I believe that non-admins helping out at these times is extremely useful. I think you should stop admonishing users and, instead, assume good faith, and encourage them to be bold and ignore the process at these times, as the closure of AfDs by trusted, respected, and established editors in good standing does not hurt Wikipedia in any way. --Boricuaeddie 00:02, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Non-admins should indeed close AFDs, but only with the outcome keep, speedy keep, merge and/or redirect. That's what WP:DPR says, Boricuaeddie. And the particular AFD which caught my eye was just relisted, and as such leaned towards no consensus at the time. I will generally not advise anyone to WP:IAR. Punkmorten 08:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was unaware that DPR had changed. If you like, I can find the diff I was aware of, where it said I was aloud to close debates as delete. In any case, I'll be more careful with consensus in the future. Giggy Talk 08:31, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ehm, sorry I meant to say "That's what WP:DPR says, Boricuaeddie". Fixed it now. Punkmorten 08:56, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Thanks for the note. Giggy Talk 10:22, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Carly[edit]

PLease can you restore Carly see Communes of the Pas-de-Calais department it is a commune but is it protected from re creation ♦ Blofeld the Bald ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 17:22, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was only a pleasure! I think the commune articles would be even better if the population count (which can be found on the French Wikipedia) were added. Also it would be easier if all the interwikis were there. Good catch! Punkmorten 18:56, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are in luck. The last hundred or so articles I started have the population and external links to a road map I've reached H so far. I have also asked the bot operator to begin adding all the map coordinate locations too. Hey can you try to expand Martin Lel a bit. As he won the 2005 and 2007 marathon I'd imagine ther eis more info on him? Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:32, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Martin Lel? Well... I don't know where to look for info. Punkmorten 19:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It makes a huge differenc with images. Hermaville for some reason has about 15 available but the majority haven't!!! Hopefully they will all have images eventually and be written into detailed articles. Many of the stubs you and I have started in the past now have developed articles don't they! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 15:08, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

olivier 15:42, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've begun styling the commune pages by department for France. I created Template:Communes of France earlier to connect them all. I am adding a map, col-spanning the tables into two and adding a typical image of that department for each page. I've done the first few starting with A. When these pages are set up in this style they will all be ready to start all of the communes in France. See Communes of the Ain department , Communes of the Alpes-Maritimes department as an example. Let me know what you think ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 10:15, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey good job!! but I wish you would speak to me. I find it rude that you ignore me personally. User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld 08:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it is an important article one I was extremely surprised we didn't have. It is one of those articles that Jimbo is always talking about mainstream topics we are still missing. I see it is linked in a few articles already including Asafa Powell. I am in awe of his 9.74 record. Wow that quick! The fastest I've run the 100 is 11.22 seconds. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 12:44, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In that case you are faster than me; I have 11.94 seconds. But I am more of a jumper. Punkmorten 13:50, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever competed in athletics personally? You seem to have a keen interest in it. I was always very good at athletics at school and continued to sprint the 100m 200 and 400 metres in competition up until I was 19 during college. I must admit I was pretty useless at long distance and the discus and the javelin though -I just couldn't get the hang of the technique!. i have a great admiration of decathletes. Tremendous athletes. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 13:57, 11 September 2007 (UTC) WHat is your long jump personal best? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 13:59, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My long jump PB is 6.38 metres. Not great, but ok. In the standing high jump, though, I am actually the Norwegian champion of 2007. I as well am not good in the distance running and throwing events. Punkmorten 14:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Norwegian champion is very impressive indeed. Your distance of 6.38m beats mine by a lot!!!! Mine was only around 5.60 from what I recall. Hey I remember watching Mike Powell jumping 8.95 almost out of the pit. My grandfather was a successful amateur boxer and gymnast and athlete and was a physical instructor in the Royal Navy. I remember him showing me how to do press ups when I was about 7 and he was aged 90! He is mentioned in the article Jennifer Sullivan. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 14:20, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see, maybe you could take a free picture of Jennifer Sullivan some time? Punkmorten 14:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I probably have at least 15 photographs of her with the family but I would have to speak with her to get her permission as she may not like having a personal photo in front of millions. I have to be honest that she has very little to do with the family and rarely even bothers even phoning my 102 old nan since she moved to France or my father (they are the youngest of seven). The few times I've met her however she has always had a great sense of humour and fun to be around. Hi Punkmorten! I have started the article Norwegian local elections, 2007, and then noticed your request from a few months back. Surprised nobody has created this earlier. Chinese sportspeople[edit]

Hi Morten! I am confused about your edits here: Fan Yunjie. China palyed three matches in 2000 and she played all three? And China played two matches in 2004 and she played both? Or am I wrong? :(

Anyway! May I ask you for some help... :) These Chinese sportspeople need their names in the right order: Haixia Zheng (Zheng is the family name - so the right order is Zheng Haixia), Xia Liu (Liu is the family name - so the right order is Liu Xia), and Qinan Zhu (Zhu is the family name - so the right order is Zhu Qinan). Many thanks and :) Kind regards Doma-w 01:45, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fan Yunjie: Saying that she played "both matches" implies that China played only two matches during the tournament, which is clearly incorrect. Likewise with "all three". I fixed the others. Punkmorten 07:19, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing!
To Fan Yunjie: Yes, China played only two matches in 2004 (Group F; playing Germany and Mexico - did not advance to the quarter finals) and they played only three matches in 2000 (Group F; playing Nigeria, USA, and Norway - did not advance to the semifinals), so Fan Yunjie played all possilbe matches for China in these two tournaments, once both and once all three... :) Doma-w 12:01, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted a page that I put up and I was never notified. Perhaps I don't have my preferences set to email me--I will check on that. In the meantime I would like an explanation as to why you deleted my page:

I only procedurally deleted it, someone else provided the reasoning, see WP:PROD. But having reviewed it, I whole-heartedly agree with its deletion. By for instance these standards. See also WP:COI. Punkmorten 15:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AFD for Sauman[edit]

Punkmorten - I see that you closed my AFD for Sauman Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Samnaun. One problem, there was no consensus on that listing. One person for (myself), one person against. This doesn't constitute a consensus. I'm not going to go off on some wild tear about it, I'm still fairly new around here, so there's a truckload of information I don't yet know. Just one question, though, how does two people with opposite votes make a consensus ? KoshVorlon ".. We are ALL Kosh..." 17:59, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The consensus for keeping such articles has already been reached. Punkmorten 07:00, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Punkmorten - There was no consensus on the AFD. It was two people only, both votes in opposite directions. So I'm not following you. I did click on the link and it doesn't address the issues I brought up with this article. The article is one line long and has only basic information. Per Wiki guidelines (as I understand them to be) it is up to the author to show notability, this wasn't shown. It is up to the author (again, as I understand guidelines to be) to references his or her work, this wasn't done. This is one line of text only and therefore, per those guidelines, not notable. Understand, I'm not arguing and I'm not looking to be difficult, however, I don't see consensus on that afd at all. Thanks KoshVorlon ".. We are ALL Kosh..." 14:28, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That particular AFD did not need to reach a consensus, because the outcome was already given - geographical locations are always notable, as shown by tens of prior AFDs and summed up in WP:AFDP (although it does specifically say "Cities and villages"). By the way you are indeed being difficult when you call other editors names, I left a WP:NPA . Punkmorten 07:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And there are also some categories using dots, e.g. Category:Lillestrøm S.K. or Category:Lillestrøm S.K. players. Are the dots for these clubs correct? Or would it better to move them also? New Caledonian footballers[edit]

Hi! I would like to ask you why you prod theses articles ? The players of New Caledonia national football team are worth staying . I try to improve these articles . Look at Pierre Wajoka . Maybe he didn't play in a famous club , but he is a MEMBER of national football team . The first player who scored a goal in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification...I think it's enough to have a place in wikipedia . If we try to delete all footballers who didn't play in profi clubs , some categories of international footballers would be empty . I open to discuss about that with you . Greetings Bartekos 10:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I whole-heartedly believe that these footballers are not Wikipedia-worthy. Oceanian international football is a lot weaker than, let's say, European national football. Playing on a weak national team is not enough to meet WP:BIO. Punkmorten 10:53, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has no borders . People live also in Oceania and maybe for them the footballers for example from Norway or Poland are unimportant . Tell me please in what thing the Pierre Wajoka is worse than a Maltese player playing in Maltese club? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bartekos (talkcontribs) 11:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is global, which means that there is a universal guideline of notability. This is outlined in WP:BIO, which these people clearly fail. Norwegian top-flight players meet the guideline because the league is professional. Since you ask, Maltese league players are not notable. I master the concept of countering systemic bias, thank you. Punkmorten 13:27, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Quote: "Competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming or tennis Competitors who have played or competed at the highest level in amateur sports (who meet the general criteria of secondary sources published about them)". What does it mean fully professional league ? Every country has an official league which we can call professional. I don't believe there are clubs in top-leagues of countries who don't pay players for what they are doing . But if that kind of club excists , look at the secondary sentence . Do you think that participating in FIFA World Cup qualification is too less to call it highest level ? Thank you . And I am sorry for my English . Hi! You see, admins evade it. Punkmorten (talk) 23:11, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see. Well you must admit I should have been made an admin long ago!! Hey its kind of a coincidence but over the next few months I have plans to increase the focus on areas such as cities and bring it to the next level -e.g new articles on suburbs or districts of cities etc. I noticed you have been doing the same!!! The other day I started the Townships in Yangon and I just started filling in the suburbs of Aarhus, Denmark!! Is it Aarhus or Århus? Should Å be translated as Aa? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 10:55, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, Århus. Punkmorten (talk) 15:41, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

German translations[edit]

Hello -

I noticed you deleted the translation request for the athlete, Carsten Köhrbrück.

I recently went on a hunt for translation requests that had gone "lost", in other words, they had translation requests, but were not set "Completed" and were not listed on either the main translation page or the German translation page. Since you deleted the request file, I assume that means that you didn't want the translation anymore. I figured I'd mention that you (or anyone) could just set the request to "Completed" (maybe with a comment) if you want to cancel a translation request.

I found quite a few "lost" German requests. Some appear to have been already partially or entirely completed, but not set complete, but there were also quite a few which had been created but then never put on either of the translation pages so they could be worked on. Those are the ones I was looking for.

Sorry if you were surprised to see the request surface again!

Mange tak. Scbarry (talk) 10:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was the one who requested it back in March. Yesterday I translated it myself, so it was not needed anymore. Since no-one else had touched the translation or showed any interest, I didn't bother to go through the technical process.. Punkmorten (talk) 11:02, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No Hope for the Kids[edit]

Hi Punkmorten Concerning the article No Hope for the Kids which you added the Cleanup tag to. I have rearranged the sections (discography above the sources and external links) and rearranged the text so the releases fit into their own section and the rest, which is mainly biographical, has its own section. I can't really see what more can be done, but would appreciate some input if more work needs to be done. Furthermore concerning the Notability tag, is there any chance of it being removed? I stated its case in the article's discussion page, and i sincerely hope it will be enough to prove its notability. We are not talking Britney Spears or some mainstream act i know, but in terms of "subcultural" value this band does rate pretty high (at least for bands of this kind coming out of Scandinavia and certainly Denmark). --Saddhiyama (talk) 23:47, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article has too many redlinks, are you sure all linked articles deserve articles, remove links to items which will not have articles. The discography section should be a table. Otherwise it looks much better. Punkmorten (talk) 07:47, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the hints. I've removed the red wikilinks for the bandmembers (which will probably never become articles anyway) and the labels (which can be added if articles about those appear later). I don't know how to make a table for the discography, but i've organized it after form of release (singles, albums, compilations etc). --Saddhiyama (talk) 13:09, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Therese Lundin[edit]

Why did you add the ((sofixit)) template to my AFD? It came across as a bit rude. After all, if you'd checked, the article does not establish notability, as confirmed by Google, has no references, and is blatant plagiarism. Your sofixit template was inappropriate for the discussion, as I had genuine concerns about the article. Why should I have to fix it anyway? Disputed fair use rationale bla bla bla bla[edit]

The article claims he played for F.C. Südtirol-Alto Adige, which is an Italian Serie C2 team, and Serie C2 is a fully professional league (the equivalent of English League Two); he plays for U.S. Ivrea Calcio since the 2006-07 season [1], and scored 5 goals in 22 appearances this season(only registered users), so he is notable per WP:BIO#Athletes. Obviously he's not a prominent footballer, so you might consider a merger with Klaus Bachlechner for this particular case. --Angelo (talk) 18:23, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Several (minor) issues[edit]

The Kjell-Idar Juvik article rasied several minuscule points:

  1. birth/death place should be disentagled from the parenthesis immediately following the name.
  2. the {{bd}}/{{lifetime}} template should be subst'ed.
  3. I'm curious why you use <references/> instead of {{Reflist}}.
  4. I previously changed the name of the article based on an authoritative source. Were you aware of this, and if so, why did you change it back?

Removing redlinks[edit]

Removing all redlinks on deaths in... pages seems pretty bad to me. Punkmorten (talk) 08:35, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Deaths in 2008 page notes that it is "a list of notable deaths". As an admin you would be aware that there is a notability guideline. "Redlinks" on this page have in no way demonstrated any notability. As a courtesy, they remain for one month to see if an article eventuates. If not, by convention, the notice is removed.
Consider an entry such as this:
Why would you believe that such an entry should be allowed to remain? There is nothing notable about this person by Wikipedia standards. Regards, WWGB (talk) 11:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where to find a discussion of deletion of Central Dallas Ministries[edit]

With the page gone, it is difficult to figure out some of the background of the deletion. I'm used to seeing some kind of notification that an article is to be deleted, or at least to seeing a discussion of the proposed deletion that can be referenced in order to understand it. All I see in this case is the edit summary "deleted "Central Dallas Ministries" ‎ (WP:PROD, reason was 'Fails to establish notability. Not listed in Oxford Dictionary of Christianity'.)" Surely delete vs. keep doesn't depend on something as arbitrary as a single reference work not containing an entry on the organization. I can't help noting that unless by some chance you mistyped the name of the reference work you're citing, your citation of it is — according to Google — the sole mention in all of English Wikipedia of this presumably important reference. It seems odd that a book used as the lone basis for deciding notability of Christian organizations would not itself have an article in this encyclopedia. Lawikitejana (talk) 02:52, 23 April 2008 (UTC) (Incidentally, since you note you usually reply on this page, it would be helpful if you posted even a single line on my Talk page to alert me when you reply; I'll watch your page, but as I watch nearly 1500, it's easy to overlook one.)[reply]

Update: I found a cached version of the page as of April 8, 2008. While it does have two references, they aren't the solid ones that I had stored away in a file for coming back to the article and building it up, so if that's the most recent version, I can better see now why one would say "fails to establish notability" (though I still fail to see where this Oxford Dictionary of Christianity figures into the issue). I'll see if I can't improve the article (surely!) later in the week with the material I had found in The Dallas Morning News.Lawikitejana (talk) 02:52, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
re: "The article was not good," oh, yes -- presuming the April 8 version is the one that was deleted, the resulting article is inadequate; it's simply what resulted from cutting out a big pile of copyvio. There are plenty of articles out there on the development of CDM, which is a sizable organization and now doing some work across the U.S. They weren't in the article, which means notability wasn't evident. I just don't get the ODofC part. Thanks for the saved material; I'll look at it after work. Lawikitejana (talk) 12:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Juha Plosila[edit]

Hi, I looked at google, and there's no conclusive connection that I could find between the two. Just as a personal opinion, I'd say it very possibly is the same person, since Plosila isn't a very common name and the athlete started representing Turun Urheiluliitto (he'd represented a club from Mikkeli before) at around the time someone would join an university (and the researcher seems to have always been connected with the University of Turku).

The best source for a birthdate I could find was on [3] where it's listed as 1965-06-21, but the site is possibly not a reliable source (it doesn't cover long-jumping as an event so there are no records listed in the event, but the odds that there was another person with the same name representing the same club at the same time is non-existant).

On the Finnish Wikipedia, it lists him as winning silver in the Kalevan kisat (Finnish national championships in athletics) in 1985 and bronze in 1987, so I added those to the article. I don't have access to the cited reference, which is the same as on fi-wiki, but it's pretty clear to me that the sole author of the Finnish wikipedia article isn't just drawing names from a hat. - Bobet 12:37, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Camp Avoda[edit]

Hi, I'm just here to ask if you can reconsider the deletion of the Camp Avoda article. While I agree that the information in this article cannot be verified by an outside published source, I believe the significance of this article outweighs its slight flaw. The contents of the article might not be verifiable with an outside published source, but it has been checked repeatedly by users who have been to the camp and worked in the camp, and the probability of their being an inconsistency is low. I also would like to note that the article is very useful. Whether used as a reference for people who hear about the camp and don't know much about it, for people who consider going to it and would like to learn more about it, or for people who want to find information about the camp from an outside source, since the only other information available is the camp's own information. It is also useful for people who currently go to the camp or previously have done so, as it lists information on the annual Color War event. This information is not available any where else on the web. Please consider recovering this article. Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated. QuentinV (talk) 07:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nothing you say is beneficial to the article. "that the information in this article cannot be verified by an outside published source" is not a "slight" flaw. Is it "very useful", you say, well mind WP:USEFUL and that Wikipedia is not a travel guide. If "the only other information available is the camp's own information", then it completely fails Wikipedia policy because Wikipedia is a tertiary source. We write about what others write about subjects. Punkmorten (talk) 07:46, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
