Jonathan Nossiter[edit]

If you are who you say you are, you could helpfully do a little more to help improve the article.

  • Please don't change the formatting around the name - the wikipedia manual of style asks for the article title to be in bold, which, in mark-up, is obtained by three apostrophes both before and after the words to be bolded.
  • Please fix up all the references so that they don't appear in the text - I fixed quite a few hoping that you might fix the rest. The end result should be no reference text appears in the article and the list of references appearing in the References section should all have helpful names so that readers can know what they are clicking on.
  • There is still a lot of peacock fluff. A single quote about how excellently wonderful he is at understanding (drinking?) wines would be more than enough.

This is an encyclopaedia and if you don't make it neutral and balanced, you can be fairly certain somebody else will do the work and sometimes the results aren't pretty. Regards  Velella  Velella Talk   13:18, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Velella,

So sorry. I'm new to this. Of course I wish to respect the nature of an encyclopaedia. However, some innacuracies and mischaracterizations needed amending. (it's absurd that the principal reference to a serious book* for years has been a blog comment from a disgruntled minor character in the book (Robert Parker). Is it permissible to remove the spurious Parker quote? I'll be happy to remove other citations as well. I shall try to master the referencing but even reading the instructions twice, I'm still a bit befuddled. Thank you Yours sincerely Alberto

  • The book is not about wine drinking bur about the nature of culture, politics and taste in relation to wine.

Please look in detail at the edits that I made to the article which should illustrate how to format references etc.

Please do not remove the criticism - an article needs to be balanced with both praise and criticism. Please also reduce the excessive verbage about his films and books. The article is unpleasantly fawning at present.  Velella  Velella Talk   14:24, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please read the Wikipedia Manual of Style, WP:MOS- putting arbitrary things in bold text is not okay. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:49, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Goatassistant. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Jonathan Nossiter, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

Dear Justlettersandnumbers (talk)

I appreciate of course the need for defending against conflicts of interest.

However I don't understand why you have deleted factually verifiable, critical information regarding the subject of this article that was fully documented. The article has reverted to an incomplete and in some cases, erroneous or misleading nature. For instance, Jonathan Nossiter is a Brazilian and an American citizen. Why have you reverted the article to the previous innacurate description of him as only American. Numerous other articles begin by describing the principal achievements of the subject. In this case that would be winning the Sundance Festival Grand Prize and being nomnated for the Golden Palm and The Golden Bear at Cannes and Berlin. I spent a lot of time yesterday correcting the article so it is more complete and accurate. Another monitor pointed out some excesses and flourishes that could constitute partisanship and I dutifully removed them. What remained is factual and verifiable and source identified. Surely the additions are necessary for Wikipedia readers and make the article more legitimate. That I am the director's assistant doesn't affect the veracity of what I added.
