Hey folks. I've put in a submission for a presentation at Wikimania 2015 called Is Two the Magic Number?: The Co-op and New Editor Engagement through Mentorship. I'll be talking about the state of help spaces on and how our new mentorship space, The Co-op, factors into that picture based on our pilot of the space. Review of those submissions will begin soon and I'll need your help if I want to present it. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. If you would be interested in seeing this presentation, whether you are attending or not, please add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal (you do not need to attend Wikimania to express interest in presentations). Thanks a bunch!

Much obliged ;)[edit]

Greetings and salutations. Thank you ever so kindly for the nod for my musical RSVP. Since I can't be there, I did a bit of work tonight in Thalia Mara. The sentence attributing our Thalia Hall to Thalia Mara needs ...sourcing, perchance at the workshop? Best, --Mareklug talk 10:11, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

@Mareklug: Hey, both your fantastic RSVP and article work are much appreciated. I'll see if we can't add Mara to our shortlist of articles. :) I, JethroBT drop me a line 04:18, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

Well, I hit the ground running. I guess it's on-the-job training which is OK by me. In this very earliest of stages there will be a lot of questions and answers. Is this, your talk page, the place to ask and receive? And to make comments on experiences and what-not that comes up? TY. Buster Seven Talk 22:09, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

  • I'm not gonna hold hands crossing the street especially if I "get" that the editor has some experience. He had an "edit conflict message" about 45 minutes ago and now he's lost in the fog somewhere. Maybe I hit him with too much in the first 1/2 hour. My focus early on here with him is that he learn some really simple things first before we proceed....signing, using the edit summary, creating a user page...Basics. . Buster Seven Talk 22:21, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
@Buster7: Thanks for dropping me a line, and yes, feel free to use this page if you have questions. Our team will be seeking feedback from mentors in the beginning of April to talk about their experiences. But any immediate concerns can definitely be brought here. For questions, you can also ask other mentors on the talk page, for many there have much more experience than I do in teaching editors one-on-one. I think it's good to focus primarily on what they want to learn. Yes, there are often basics to be taught, and I think it's good to teach those conventions, but only as they are needed. As for the editor having some experience, that's fine. Maybe the editor did some anonymous editing before he made an account. (I did before my start.) In any case, I think starting with those needed conventions first and then moving on to their specific need (about citation formats for websites) is sound. I have opened the 2nd PR as the article's first FAC is withdrawn due to prose issues. Feel free to leave comments. Face-smile.svgSsven2 Speak 2 me 13:37, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

A beer for you![edit]

Export hell seidel steiner.png Congratulations on the successful Taiko FAC. That nomination had to take a few hurdles ;), but you have done a great job fixing all concerns quickly and thoroughly. GermanJoe (talk) 14:21, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

The Signpost: 18 March 2015[edit]

Hi, I JethroBT. April 4th has no conflicts for me, and the 25th may have conflict, but it's unlikely. I appreciate you checking which date works better for me, but don't feel obligated to book this around me. Upjav (talk) 19:44, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Ah, I thought you were asking about the 11th and the 18th, the two Saturdays between the 4th and the 25th... Anyway, I'll likely be in town the 18th, though I don't think that helps. If you're interested in promoting something, the main, national education conference is in Chicago that weekend, and the national geography conference is also in town either the week before or after—don't remember. czar  20:00, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
    • @Czar, Upjav: The staff has also let me know that Sat., May 2nd is also available. Thoughts? I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:32, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Will keep it in mind, but my May is going to be hectic. April 18th works best for me, if the winds do change. Appreciate the heads up. czar  20:38, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
@Czar: If that's the case, you'll be happy to know we have a different edit-a-thon we're having at the Pritzker on the 18th. I'll be sending out formal announcement about this one soon, but you can RSVP anytime. I, JethroBT drop me a line 21:53, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Book Creator function[edit]

I found you scanning the list of Teahouse editors and you sounded like a nice enough guy. I'd be grateful if you could either a)answer my questions, or b)point me in the right direction to get help. The Teahouse is probably not the most appropriate area to pose these questions, so my apologies. You did sound like someone who helps new users though. Ever since I discovered the Create a Book feature I've had a lot of problems with it.

  1. How do you delete a book page that has no content? I made a mistake and then it creates another page with the mistaken title. But how do you completely clear the empty book user page?
  2. Is it possible to see all your unfinished books listed somewhere?
  3. Is it possible to preview the book before downloading or printing?
  4. Are you able to format the text of your book (font etc.)?
  5. Can you access another users main page by typing User:xxx somewhere? Where would you type in a user's name?

Thanks much, Bill Swamixyz (talk) 22:47, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

@Swamixyz: Hi Bill. I actually don' know a lot about the books function, but it looks like others have provided you with the answers you need. I, JethroBT drop me a line 17:33, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

A summary of a Featured Article you nominated at WP:FAC will appear on the Main Page soon. Was there anything I left out you'd like to see put back in? Could you check the article one more time before its day on the Main Page? - Dank (push to talk) 14:17, 28 March 2015 (UTC)
