Category:American film actresses[edit]

Thankyou for helping expand Category:American film actresses.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Please stop anti-diffusing categories[edit]

People should only be in the most specific category that applies to them. Thus if they are in Category:American actresses they should not also be in the actors category. They should not be in a film actors category and the actors category. Ideally Category:American actors should only be a contained category, no articles should be in it. The same should also be true of American singers.John Pack Lambert (talk) 22:26, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Request for input on runic link[edit]

Hello, as you might be aware the peace symbol or the Campaign for nuclear disarmament symbol has runic origins. Specificially that of the death rune/Algiz/Todesrune. I am currently in discussion on the talk page of the Campaign for nuclear disarmament with another member who actively refuses to accept that this information about the symbols runic origins be included.

I would appreciate your input.

Here are the references supporting the runic origin of the symbol.

Categories[edit]

Following some disagreement among people at WP:AFC/R on whether multi-intersection categories like Category:Black British actresses are helpful or not, I've raised the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Categories#Multi-intersection categories. Since you were the one who proposed the categories you may want to explain your reasoning there. Technically you could create the categories directly without going through AFC/R at all, but since they're apparently controversial, it may be better to use this opportunity and establish whether we should have them at all. Huon (talk) 02:37, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

And as a semi-pseudo-quasi related topic, the very word "actress" has been labeled as being a sexist hangover from past ages by many and I expect that many of the current categories such as the one you recently tacked onto Charlotte Saunders Cushman will be . . . . . . . . . . ...... discussed shortly. Then likely obsolete. The "correct" term, I believe, is "female actors." Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 02:56, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

What?!!![edit]

Hi. What on earth is your justification for categorising Les Murray as a New Zealand anthropologist? I know Les well. He is Australian-born, never lived in NZ, and never studied anthropology in anything but a jocular sense. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 03:03, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Oops, my bad. That was a mistake that I caught right after I'd made it. I thought I'd changed it, but my internet's been a little blinky, so I guess I accidentally left it as was. Sorry about that! ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 03:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Close paraphrase[edit]

You identified Janet Hamill as a possible close paraphrase. can you identify the source, so I can check it out?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:29, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I did that such a long time ago that I'm no longer 100% sure that this was what I was referring to, but I'm almost certain (maybe 95% sure) that this is the one. It is her official site, after all. Either way, it's still a pretty close match. Sorry about that, I'm usually good with noting that kind of stuff. *bows head in shame* ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 00:46, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have tried that. I did a quick Google search and wasn't turning up anything obvious, (but that isn't so hot for paraphrased), so I thought I would check.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 00:52, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest[edit]

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:30, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Move request on Thomas Keightley (historian)[edit]

As a past editor to Thomas Keightley (official) and notifying you are encouraged to participate in the discussion that weighs the relative current name-recognition of the official vs. the author of the same name. This discussion is held at Talk:Thomas Keightley (historian).
The proposal will make Thomas Keightley, by default, go to the article on the writer. And a hatnote at the top stating:

This page is about the writer. For the political figure, see Thomas Keightley (official). For other uses, see Thomas Keightley (disambiguation).

Thus navigational notice referring to the official's article will not be diminished. --Kiyoweap (talk) 15:34, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
