Hi, Jesster79. I see you've been uploading some nice photos. Do you think you could give due consideration to putting them under the GFDL instead of the more restricted {msg:noncommercial}? GFDL is far more in accordance with the project's philosophy; msg:noncommercial means, for example, that were we to produce a printed version of Wikipeida for sale, then we couldn't include your photos. GFDL is what your written contributions are covered by, so why not release your pictures under the same license? Just a thought. –Hajor 02:57, 7 May 2004 (UTC)

As you may know, the Wikipedia policy on images has since been explicitly restated as disapproving of such licenses, and Jimmy Wales has said that at some unspecified date, all such will be removed. Spelling

Hi, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that in several articles you misspelled initially as initally (for example, Dubuque, Iowa, Julien Dubuque Bridge, Saint Mary's Catholic Church (Dubuque), St. Raphael's Cathedral (Dubuque), Julien Dubuque, Twi'lek, Michael Garibaldi, Cardassian Occupation, Romulan Ale, Mara Jade, Rebel Alliance (Star Wars), etc.). It's not a big deal, but it might be a good idea to watch out for it in the other articles you work on; it might save someone like me the effort of correcting it later. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Jim Nussle

The best bits are always on the talk pages. But I have edited the article for additional biographical information. I have particularly added information about Karen Chiccehitto Nussle, the second Mrs. Nussle, who deserves an article of her own.

A scandal. The wife of the President of UD gave money to Nussle. Presumably, Nussle porked some money to UD that paid his new sexy wife's salary as an adjunct-professor thereof, and considerably then some, and the University President's wife kicked-back some of it as a campaign contribution.

UD

I'm 55 years old, which makes me old UD. I have two diplomas, one from the undergraduate U and one from the theological seminary, back when we cohabitated with the Dominicans, and both degrees were free (my father was a professor); I always did have to buy my own books. A couple of days ago, I went thru the south campus of UD, the new one, the one the has no left turns to or from UD on Dodge Street. Goodness, all the security.

The fact that his wife gave money to Nussle is enough to demand that the President of the University of Dubuqe resign in disgrace. This is clear evidence of corruption. UD is not a right wing institution (rather, in my time, just the opposite). It's a good Presbyterian institution.

Hi, I just made a danish version of en:Tractor, using one of your pics of PTO. Question

Are you certain about "OrphanBot does not delete images." Because I went to look at the image to see what exactly the problem was and the image had already been deleted, without giving me any chance to review the image in question and see what the problem is?

Absolutely certain. Only a few people on Wikipedia have the ability to delete images, and OrphanBot isn't one of them. In this case, the deletion log indicates that it was deleted by CLW. --Carnildo 22:20, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I am pretty sure the problem here is that orphanbot has not been running recently (due to a rewrite). So even though the image had been tagged as missing information for a week you only recieved the automated warning message a short while before it was due to be deleted. It is not CLW's fault you did not know about the upcoming deletion. This would not be a problem if you correctly tagged the image in the first place. Alternativley if you had a watch on the file you would have noticed when the warning tag was put on it. If the image is yours you can re-upload it, otherwise it should have had a claim of fair use. --Martyman-(talk) 03:34, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Very nice. Thanks for the vote at RfA. I was responding here because I feel sorry for Carnildo having to respond to so many questions on his user page about the indispesable job his bot does. I do not feel I have been out of line at all in my previous comment to you. I explained why I thought the problem had occured and what might have been done to abvoid it. The number of untagged images on wikipedia is astronomical. Going through them and either correctly tagging them or marking them as lacking this info is huge job that I and others at Wikipedia:Untagged images have taken on. I do not feel it is fair of you to go lashing out at people who are just trying to clear up a (legal) mess other users have made. --Martyman-(talk) 04:08, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

You are totaly out of line in suggesting my explaination of how this missunderstanding might of occured is out of place and somehow intruding on a private conversation. Further Explanation

All I was trying to do was to explain to you that it was neither Orphanbot or CLW's at fault. You still don't seem to fully understand how the untagged image process works. I will try to explain it.

• First a volunteer goes through the huge lists of images over at Wikipedia:Untagged images. Images with no copyright/source info are tagged as such and get put in to a category that eventually leads to their deletion in one week.
• The volunteer who tagged the image can choose to notify the uploader at this point, although recently Orphanbot has been doing such a good job often this step has been skipped.
• Within a day or two Orphanbot runs through and removes these tagged images from the pages they are in and notifies the uploaders. (this is the bit of the proccess that was held up).
• At the end of the week an admin goes through the category and deletes everthing. Normally safe in the knowledge that the uploader has been notified and had most of a week to fix the problem.

This proccess normally works well, occasionaly there are slip ups which I feel is quite understandable in dealing with a task this big (around 1000 untagged imaeg are uploaded a day). It is unfortunate that your image was deleted but I did not in anyway come to your page spoiling for a fight, I was just trying to explain to you why the notification step had been missed. I also suggest that in future you do as I do and leave all images up upload on your watchlist so that you can monitor them for this kind of event. --Martyman-(talk) 06:02, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Jesse - I assume you're referring to Image:2005ISPescapes.JPG? This image was tagged as unlicensed on 8 February and wasn't deleted until 19 February, giving more than the full seven days to update the licensing details. If the user who tagged it didn't notify you, I'm afraid you should be speaking the them, not me. But even so, if you add your images to your watch list this won't be an issue in future. Speedy deletable images are just that - speedy deletable. Contacting the uploaders of such images before deleting them would mean that the backlogs of unlicensed images would never be cleared, exposing Wikipedia to serious copyright problems.
