History of photography
Whoo, all those questions! I'll try to answer them, but I may have to spread out the work. If I avoid comment on something, it may be because for one reason or another (eg I have no opinion) I'd prefer not to comment, or it could be that I'll comment later. (Isn't WP mysterious?) So try to be patient. -- Hoary (talk) 12:51, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
A word in defense of vernacular photography. Yes of course poppycock has been written to promote it, but then whatever your taste in photography I'm sure that dreary articles written in the most awful MFA-speak (citing French philosophasters, etc) have been devoted to it or something like it.
At its discerningly collected best, vernacular photography (or whatever you prefer to call it) can be superb. I particularly recommend Jeffrey Fraenkel's The Book of Shadows: the RRP is high and the online oligopolists charge a lot, but remaindered copies turn up. And just today I was looking through a copy of a second good book: Now Is Then: Snapshots from the Maresca Collection. -- Hoary (talk) 13:44, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was
true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to
false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.
