Montage for Canadian cities[edit]

Could you please do montage pics for Montreal and Toronto article? Thank you and God bless you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.63.52.14 (talk) 22:52, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I'll see what I can do in the next few weeks. --Jleon (talk) 14:13, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Trinity Church[edit]

Jleon thank for you instruction, I think it is better for me to seek some tutorial on online for fixing time stamp. Below is a photo of Trinity Church that the time stamp covers a lamp pole as well. [[1]]

Remark: I just learned to use the clone tool in Photoshop, check on the trinity page and see if my work ok!

Time Stamp[edit]

Thank again for your help to remove the time stamp of the GE building last time. I got quite alot of pictures have the same problem that hesitate my intention to upload them. Would you please teach me how to use the clone stampe tool in photoshop to replace overlapped distraction. I just got back from NYC this week, its urban morphology and cultural dynamics are really impressively, yet academic geography doesn't even has a foothold in this magnificent city. New York City[edit]

You've really done most of the heavy lifting. Feel free to move my music section into "Arts" and edit it, it's not really 100% up to quality but it's not really my field. Kaisershatner 20:09, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

New York City[edit]

Two words: be bold. I have done a lot of editing on New York City before, but specifically the subway. Frankly, the organisation of the New York City page is awful, and it should never have been allowed to spawn to 62k. Páll 06:12, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Oh, and one other thing. Articles with 300px images: MTR (featured), Johannesburg (featured), and South Africa (featured). How's that?

Cooper-Hewitt[edit]

My page on the Cooper-Hewitt predates yours by three months, and also uses the correct name of the museum, according to its website. Can you figure out how to merge the content/redirect and also fix the link in the New York City article. Bwahahahaha... Kaisershatner 22:22, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Black Death[edit]

Thanks for your comments. I agree the point is interesting, and perhaps useful in a social consequences section. But social points are difficult to document. The anon who wrote the original paragraph didn't provide a source. If I can find the source that I got my memory from (see my original comment), I'll put a paragraph in. In the meantime, feel free to look for similar references. Comments welcome. WBardwin 01:02, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re your changes to the L.A. page[edit]

I concur that the sentence about mugging was probably an exaggeration, but I am putting back in the other sentence you took out. It sounds like you're not a L.A. resident. If you actually read the L.A. Times every day, you would be familiar with the enormous variety of random crimes and car-related crimes that occur in the City of Los Angeles on a daily basis. There have been two fatal random shootings on the Harbor Freeway in the past three weeks, as well as random thrill killings on the streets of Pacoima and Harbor City during that same period. All these crimes occurred in broad daylight.

If you want an even more comprehensive list of the variety of murders, assaults, and robberies that occur in L.A. every day, look at the Newsroom Web page on the LAPD Web site:[2]

And don't forget to look at the press release archives for past months, too.

Also, if you run a LexisNexis search through past L.A. Times articles you'll notice that the crime rate was actually much higher in 2002.

NYC[edit]

Hi.

You ask:

Hi, what was your intention of breaking apart the intro just to add the heading "overview"? I think its pretty clear that for most large city articles the intro serves as the overview. I've also never heard of what you're calling the "convential position" of having those separate, and I think the article looks much worse now. --Jleon 18:21, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Firstly let me congratulate you on your speedy response. I've actually yet to see the results of my edit (apart from the pre-save preview) as all Wikipedia will give me is Sorry- we have a problem... The wikimedia web server didn't return any response to your request.

However the intention was not about breaking up anything, but rather about making sure that the contents were shown in a rational place in the article. When I first looked at the article, viewing full screen on a 17" monitor with medium sized font, I couldn't even tell that it had a contents list, and I therefore assumed it was a fairly short and lightweight article. Obviously I was sufficiently motivated to scroll down and find that wasn't true, but other readers may not. The contents list performs an important 'selling' task in giving the reader a quick view of how comprehensive the article is, but only if readers don't have to scroll to see it.

Or to put it another way, here is what the Wikipedia:Manual of Style has to say about the lead section:

The lead section is the section before the first headline. It is shown above the table of contents (for pages with more than three headlines). The appropriate lead length depends on the length of the article, but should be no longer than three paragraphs in any case.

(my emphasis). The lead section before my change had four relatively long paragraphs. Please feel free to change what I have done, but do please consider the need for the contents list to be immediately visible. -- Chris j wood 18:48, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I've managed to display the article now, and I see what you mean about the whitespace mismatches. Obviously someone had carefully aligned the contents and the info box, and my change kicked them out of kilter. I've tried again; if you still don't like feel free to revert. Will copy this discussion to Talk:New York City -- Chris j wood 19:22, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

GE Building[edit]

Response to: "Hey, I like the photo you added for the GE Building, but the time stamp needs to be taken out using Photoshop. If you'd like me to, I can easily handle it. Just let me know. --Jleon 15:47, 15 May 2005 (UTC)"

African Burial Ground[edit]

Hey, thanks for creating the article. I know very little about the subject, to tell the truth, but just enough to know that there should be an article on it and it should be mentioned in the New York City article. I will try to do some research though, and add to your start. --Sophitus 17:51, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

World cities - Tokyo photo[edit]

You mean you don't recognize the bridge? It is Nijubashi Bridge at the Imperial Palace. It is THE symbol of Tokyo as much as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris, Buckingham Palace is to London. The old Tokyo photo is not a good picture either. All cities have urban sprawl. Nothing unique about that. Photojpn.org 18:43, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Louisville on the United States page[edit]

Louisville was removed from the list of 20 largest cities in the U.S. on the page United States because it was not one of the 20 largest cities in 2000 (see the official list from the United States Census Bureau). That list lists the 20 largest cities as of the 2000 census. Louisville and Jefferson County were merged into a single government in 2003—in 2000, the population of the city of Louisville was the number now shown on the United States page. Mateo SA | talk 17:57, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

Houston- Fastest Growing[edit]

I have removed the quotes that were restored. I do not know the source for the quotes because they were already there before I started editing the Houston, Texas article. UH Collegian 17:44, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I also don't like the fact that you and your colleages keep on removing the picture of Houston, Texas in the United States article. It seems like the materials on that page are very exclusive and guarded from "non-regular" Wikipedians from adding in anything. UH Collegian 17:57, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

U.S. city names[edit]

I noticed that you supported having major U.S. cities just be on [[city name]] articles on the requested move for NYC a few months ago, I proposed that rule on Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(city_names)#New_proposal. Please come add your two cents! Dralwik 1 July 2005 21:03 (UTC)

New York City illustratons[edit]

I see that, in providing a consistent pixel width for the images worthy of Thoreau, you have grouped them like stamps in a pane. Since you allow that you are a student of urban planning, I can only surmise that you are perhaps not yet entirely finished? In sizing images, it is the nature of the essential interest within the illustration that suggests its finished size. Surely you must have some well-designed illustrated books that might guide you. --Wetman 4 July 2005 23:01 (UTC)

Revert on U.S. article[edit]

What the hell is your problem? Do you own the article? Do you control the content of what is and what is not to put? Who says you can control of what and what not to put? Wikipedia is for anyone to contribute and you are preventing that. You need to get a life, whoever you are. What the hell do you mean referring me as a sock puppet? Define that for me. I see you are a graduate student but you sure don't act like one. Grow up, you don't own or control anything on Wikipedia. If you like to respond, please do it here on your talk page. That picture stays and stop reverting my edits. I wasn't vandalising "your" page so you had no reason to keep on reverting and calling me names such as "sock puppet". Whatever that is. 129.7.156.63 18:43, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

-This issue has been discussed at length on the United States talk page, to which you have not participated. There are many good reasons not to have the picture of Houston on the article: 1) Houston may be the fourth largest city, but only the tenth largest metro area, while the top three cities are also the top three metro areas, 2) The top three are each considered to be true global cities and each has been very important culturally to the U.S.- Houston does not match these qualities under any sense of the terms, and 3) in the past, as soon as someone puts a fourth pic onto that section it opens the floodgates for others who want to see their own hometown on the article. A "sock puppet" is either a screen name or anonymous user that another, regular user uses to mask what they are doing. No one ever tried to put a picture of Houston on the article until User:UH Collegian became an active wikipedian and he is the only one who has ever argued for its placement on the talk page. Therefore, I am somewhat suspect that you may indeed be a sock puppet for him- but of course, I could be wrong.--Jleon 18:51, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

So I see you made an accusation about me being a "houstonian" and reverted again. I am not from Houston by the way, but actually in Galveston, Texas. How about you get a life and revert other user's vandalism. I was not trying to vandalise "your" page because I wanted to put in a different picture. Again, you do not own anything on here. To my knowledge, it is the 8th largest "metro", not 10th. Don't act like you know everything as I am also an architect student, but undergraduate. That doesn't mean you know more than I do. Also, I remember seeing a picture of Houston back then on this page. I am not a "sock puppet" for anyone, whatever you call it. I've been around here before and even edited the U.S. page without having it reverted. 129.7.156.63 19:03, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

--If it was just me that felt this way I would let you put it on there, but just look at the talk page and you will see that there is a far reaching consensus regarding the pictures. Please explain to me your rationale (aside from your personal opinion of Houston) behind having the Houston pic there instead of leaving it with the neat, orderly, and common sense way of having that section. --Jleon 19:11, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I read the discussion that you asked me to. So you started the quest/demand for removal and most of the posts on there were from you. I also read some of your other posts regarding other topic matters and found that, in my opinion, you think you "own" the article and you seem like a very uptight person. Also, explain your "neat" and "common sense" above. What is my personal opinion of Houston and how would you know? I would never live in Houston!!! I have lived in Houston but moved out of Houston. I don't plan on ever living in Houston (the city) ever again. Just like I would never consider to live or buy a house in New York City (the city you awefully love so dearly), Chicago (ghetto), or Los Angeles (super ghetto). I have been to all these 3 cities before as well. Of course I do like your New York City, don't get me wrong. But I would never want to live in it. I dont like Houston as much as you think I do. I want to put the picture on there because it is the fourth largest city. Houston is important as well, even though you dont think it is from your post on the U.S. talk page. They have the Texas Medical Center, the world renowned medical center of the world, dont you deny that. They have NASA and many other things. Again, I would never live in Houston again, but I dont deny that it is a nice city to visit, to work, to conduct business, etc... Have you been to Houston? Why don't you visit Houston one day, it is not as negative as you think. I used to hate Houston with a passion as well, but then I grew up and became more mature and looked at things differently. I urge you to change your views on other cities besides new york city. 129.7.156.63 20:51, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

--Yeah, Its been real nice chatting with you, whoever you are (by the way, I'm quite surprised that an architecture student like yourself would call Chicago a "ghetto" as it is perhaps the most architecturally rich city in the entire country). --Jleon 12:42, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

Talk:Houston, Texas[edit]

I have responded to your comment on the Houston, Texas talk page. UH Collegian 18:24, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

I could not help but notice my username with a blue link above this section. What was that all about? It seems like you have a dislike for me for whatever reason(s) — can you tell me what they are? I remember we had a talk session a while ago on my talk page (it is still there in archive). I was never rude to you in anyway, but from that point on, you have been giving me a negative attitude and attacking me every way possible. Still, I have nothing against you at all and think you have done a great job for the New York City article. All I am trying to do for the Houston article is bring it up to featured article status and hope that one day it will be a featured article. I would appreciate your reponse. Thanks! UH Collegian 18:57, 26 July 2005 (UTC)
Seems like you have no justification for attacking me and saying negative things since you can't answer a simple question I asked you. Therefore, stop finding things to attack me with on the Houston talk page. UH Collegian 23:22, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

What was your simple question? I do not have a dislike for you, nor do I dislike Houston. I simply dislike some of your edits, and some of your behavior on the talk page. --Jleon 12:33, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Jackson Heights 2.jpg[edit]

G'day there. This little notice is about Image:Jackson Heights 2.jpg - an image you've uploaded. All images on wikipedia need to have
a) source information (where you found the image, where it was published, or its owner)
b) copyright information (choose the appropriate tag from this list)

At the moment some of this information is missing, and images like this are usually deleted within a week. If you want to keep the image on wikipedia, you need to update this information on the image page as soon as possible. (Agnte 18:52, 13 November 2005 (UTC))

just as followup - you need to actually put {{self2|cc-by-2.5}} in the summary on the image page for that to work... :) Agnte 11:42, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

New York City; 13:36 . . Jleon (Talk) (Rv-vandalism and unimportant external link.)[edit]

hello. is I would like to know in what it vandalism to put a bond of photographs on New York (bond without any publicity) and in what this bond is ' unimportant external'? cordially O.perrin

Hi, I didn't refer to you edits as vandalism- I reverted the anon's edit before yours at the same time, which was clearly vandalism. I actually liked the photographs on that page, but you must realize that there are thousands of NYC photo galleries online, and the External Links section is generally reserved only for the most important links for NYC information. You might find a good place to link to that page on the NYC Portal though. --Jleon 15:25, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

"Blatantly" ignoring consensus?[edit]

Hi, you reverted my edit, which cut the list of big cities from 20 to five on the United States article. You claim I am "Blatantly ignoring the concensus made" but there was never a consensus! In fact there was a fairly large effort to stifle what discussion there was, (and there were arguments from both sides.) Please reconsider your decision. --sansvoix 21:57, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Met Opera Picture[edit]

Everything being talked about in that specific area is music, not contemporary art museums or the village. I've been actively making sure that this picture has stayed there for over 6 months and have not had any problems until now. It is undoubtedly the most famous opera company in the world and deserves a picture on the city's main page. With that said I'm certainly not the one breaching the "assuming good faith". On the other hand I have had revert wars in the past and they are nothing but a pain in the ass. I don't know, I'd like to see it stay in the article - that's all I can say.

Peer review[edit]

I've noticed your excellent work over the past couple years on NYC-related articles. Lately, I've been working to bring the WTC article, and its subarticles to featured status. Right now, one is at peer review - Wikipedia:Peer review/Design and construction of the World Trade Center. It covers historical/planning aspects, as well as structural design and construction. Before going to WP:FAC, this article can use some folks to look it over and make suggestions, make sure it's not missing any important details, etc. Any help with reviewing the article would be most appreciated, should you be interested and willing. There's no obligation at all. Also, can think of anyone else to ask to review it? --Aude (talk) 15:59, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

AfD nomination of United States[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

An editor has nominated United States, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/United States (2nd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

For sourcing and attribution reasons, would it be possible for you to link to the original images on the image page? Otherwise (especially if the images originally required attribution) there may be copyright problems, and the image may end up being deleted as having inadequate sourcing. Thanks. File source problem with File:NYC Montage 1.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:NYC Montage 1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 05:16, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Chinatown, Flushing Images[edit]

Hello, Jleon - you seem to have an excellent hand with pictures and images - might you be able to help provide some good images for the young Chinatown, Flushing article? Perhaps a picture of a crowded sidewalk on a Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, in the heart of of Flushing Chinatown; or maybe a picture of a Lunar New Year/Chinese New Year celebration? Unfortunately, the Unisphere wouldn't qualify, given its location outside the Chinatown area of Flushing.

Feel free to respond on my Talk page, if you wish.

Thanks!

Thmc1Thmc1 (talk) 15:06, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, Jleon - I feel guilty asking you again (I won't make a habit of it!), but if you could possibly be able to help out with pics for this new article at your earlier (earliest?) convenience, that would be greatly appreciated! (I realize from your prior response that you don't necessarily get up to Flushing that often.) Pictorially the article is bare and starving for good images, and as you know the place is actually a great source of fodder for just that.

Thanks so much!

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:45, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/New York City mayoral election, 2013 until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. CTJF83 chat 20:39, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4[edit]

We meet outside by the trees at 5:00 PM.

Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.

A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

File copyright problem with File:Times Square 112808.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Times Square 112808.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:18, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

One WTC[edit]

Hello, there. It looks like the frame of the new One WTC rivals if not already being taller than the rest of the buildings in Lower Manhattan. Being the resident expert as you are on the NYC montage, do you think now would be a good time to start getting at least an interim picture with this structure to replace the current Lower Manhattan image in the lede montage (of the NYC article)? I say "interim" because the structure won't actually be completed for another couple of years or so, I believe. Unfortunately, the current picture with the Staten Island Ferry is not particularly flattering, nor is it any longer representative of the downtown skyline. (And just in my opinion, the Ferry itself doesn't really need a lede image.) If suitable images with the new building really aren't that available yet, then perhaps a classic horizontal nighttime picture of the Brooklyn Bridge with the Lower Manhattan skyline behind it could replace the current Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan images at once. I don't know what other editors feel about this, but please consider.

Thanks,

World Financial Capital[edit]

Hi JLeon. I don't know if you're aware about the controversy brewing at the NYC article in terms of the "financial capital of the world" statement which has been intact forever. I have modified it to read that New York "has been called the world's leading financial center" and cited it appropriately. I believe this statement is absolutely accurate and factual. Feel free to join the melee if you so desire! Best, Castncoot (talk) 18:23, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

"Minor" Edits[edit]

Please be careful with the "minor" checkbox. The guidelines for minor edits (see WP:MINOR) are pretty specific. Your edit to Joseph Stalin, while OK, really isn't a minor change because other, well-meaning editors might see it differently. The "minor" checkbox also hides the edit from people who choose not to review minor changes.

The best advice I've heard is to not mark the Minor box when there is any doubt. Not flagging an edit "minor" is never a problem; marking non-minor edits "Minor" can cause trouble. Thanks! — UncleBubba T @ C ) 19:33, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Brooklyn Bridge image in NYC montage[edit]

Hi JLeon,do you think a better BB pic in the montage would be in order? One that is 1) face on, 2) shows throngs of people, and 3) has in the background the new Trade Center? If you agree, would you able to edit the montage a such? Castncoot (talk) 17:44, 17 May 2013 (UTC)

NYC montage[edit]

Thanks for making the new NYC montage, looks great! I did want to say, however, that tweaked images of an existing file should probably be uploaded as a new version rather than a new file altogether. You can add {{duplicate|NYC Montage 2014 4 - Jleon.jpg}} to the top of the unused files for uncontroversial deletion, under CSD#F1. Thanks again for your hard work! — MusikAnimal talk 19:54, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:NYC Montage 2014 2 - Jleon.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:NYC Montage 2014 2 - Jleon.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File:NYC Montage 2014 3 - Jleon.jpg listed for deletion[edit]
