[edit] Thanks!

Thanks so much for your support in my RfA, which closed successfully this morning. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 19:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NRP

In the coming days I will resurrect Neighborhood Revitalization Program and I saw there was a deletion log. I'm not sure what the original article stated but NRP is in deed a nationally acclaimed program with numerous sources on it and is the foundation of Minneapolis neighborhood government for over 30 years + the primary source [www.nrp.org] confirms this anyway. Could you tell me why the original article was deleted. .:DavuMaya:. 09:31, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

It was just random test edit, without any meaningful content whatsoever. Feel free to create an article about this if you like. jni (talk) 12:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your sysop access on the Finnish Wikiquote

Hello! Your sysop access on the Finnish Wikiquote is removed. --Taubblindheit (talk) 09:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I wonder the rush this useless policy of admin inactivity had to be enacted. Mindless imitation of Finnish language Wikipedia is the biggest problem that Finnish Wikiquote has ever had. Thanks for letting me know, if only after the fact. jni (talk) 13:40, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting attack pages

Hi Jni. I saw your deletion here and was concerned about it. Per guideline, "Administrators deleting such pages should not quote the content of the page in the deletion summary..." Thanks and good day. --Efe (talk) 04:19, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I doubt that guideline was in use in February 2005, at the time I made that deletion. It is only a helpful suggestion, not a rigid rule. jni (talk) 10:06, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of cleanup banner

Hallo Jni

I have now removed the cleanup banner on Global health. I looks rather different compared to November 2006. My changes date from the end of 2008. Many changes preceded my involvement in this entry.

From the talk page: "I have made large number of changes mainly in the disease section where I have added a number of references. I also added a section on respiratory diseaese etc. I did some restructuring and relatively smalll changes in other parts as well. I feel the current understanding of health issues is now more up to date. However, there is still room for improvement . For example, I feel the introductory part could be improved. The ideal structure and content of this entry is debatable depending on perspective. Any thoughts? Are any important issues missing?"

Do you agree?

Greetings --Useknowledge (talk) 20:19, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Unreferenced BLPs

Information.svg Hello Jni! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 342 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

[edit] Adding a band's page

Hello I wanted to create a page for a band , It's actually a solo band -a band with one member-. The band called "Ziad Antar", I came to you cause you deleted one of my articles and I must admit I was a fool at that time. But now I'm serious about this band, I even have sources for the band.

Like I said the band's name was "Ziad Antar", and here are the sources : 1- The Band's Official Site 2- The Band's Myspace 3- The Band's Facebook

At the end I really appreciate your consideration and thank you for your time. Zizo1990 (talk) 00:46, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Risuke Otake, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Speedy delete contest button.png and appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 09:08, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] History of Ninjutsu

I thought I should let you know about this book (page 162), which shows that the history of Ninjutsu (Ninpo) is clearly documented in ancient documents. SilverserenC 06:06, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the link! This book looks like a very useful reference work; much better than your earlier sources. But your statement ...shows that the history of Ninjutsu (Ninpo) is clearly documented in ancient documents is misleading and erroneous (when interpreted in context of your recent edits to Ninjutsu related articles), because:
  1. Nobody is disputing that ancient Japanese manuscripts contain references to Ninjutsu. They do, and this is well known by all and to my knowledge universally accepted statement. However, from this does not follow that statements made by primary sources associated with Hatsumi/Takamatsu/Bujinkan/Genbukan are true, or even plausible. There is simple no connection. That medieval documents use same names for people, techniques or any esoterica as Bujinkan does not mean extraordinary claims of Bujinkan are suddenly true, or that any of the modern Bujinkan arts have a documented history. It could all be a fabrication.
  2. clearly documented is a cross overstatement. There are scattered legends here and there, but almost nothing that is "clear" or "documented" even to the level satisfying WP:V, much less scrutiny by competent historians. BTW the writer of this Ninpo section, Roy Ron, is perhaps one of the most competent western historians who is tracing history of Ninjutsu. Take a note what is *omitted* from his article! No lineage of Togakure ryu here.
  3. Your citation (p. 163) says that Present day systems that trace their roots to this era include ... Tokagure-ryu ... but we knew that already. Your reference does not say that Tokagure ryu is from this era. You have found a reference that says that Tokagure-ryu is a modern system making some claim. Big difference. There is not much support for any other dubious Bujinkan claims, like Hatsumi being the 34th headmaster. One thing that is documented here and is important for verification are the names of Takamatsu's teachers and disciples, that is, you have now found a reliable source for Shinryuken Masamitsu Toda being Hatsumi's teachers teacher. I think we have that in relevant article already, but this book could be added as a source. jni (talk) 19:56, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Black Belt Barnstar 2.png Black Belt Barnstar
I, Stvfetterly (talk), hereby award Jni the Black Belt Barnstar for valued contributions to WikiProject Martial Arts.
Thanks for your help on the Togakure-ryū talk page. It's nice to find a wiki editor who doesn't want to use self published sources for articles.

Hey, just wonder if you want to stop by [[1]] if you've got some time. Thanks, --Stvfetterly (talk) 18:47, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Stvfetterly! It has been years since someone gave me a MA related barnstar (or any barnstar for that matter). Thanks! I'll take a look at the dispute resolution page at later time, but unfortunately I don't have much time to devote to editing Wikipedia right now. Actually I think some self-published MA books are really great sources of reliable information, like Ellis Amdur's Old School, which is one of the best books in English about koryu. Rob Roy's article in Martial Arts of the World encyclopedia is one of the better ones, when compared to usual Bujinkan articles, although you are quite right to point out that author being instructor in Genbukan organization makes it somewhat untrustworthy. jni (talk) 13:37, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] MSU Interview

Dear Jni,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 23:03, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
