Welcome[edit]

Hello Jp4712, and welcome to Wikipedia. I hope that you have enjoyed contributing and want to stick around. Here are some tips to help you get started:

If you need any more information, plenty of help is available - check out Wikipedia:Questions; ask your question here and attract help with the code {{helpme}}; or leave me a message on my talk page explaining your problem and I will help as best as I can. Again, welcome! strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 15:18, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jp4712, thanks for your edits to the article on Wigan. Unfortunately, at the moment they are unreferenced. It's Wikipedia's policy to include details of where editors get their information from when changing an article. So if you based your edits on a website, you can include a link to it, or if it was a book you can include bibliographical details such as author, title, publisher, and page it came from etc; to see how to format these citations just open the edit window for the Wigan article, but it can take a while to get the hang of. As Wikipedia is known for being sometimes unreliable because anyone can edit, providing details of the sources used allows readers to check information for themselves and demonstrates that editors are working from reliable references. Anyway, I was wondering if you could provide the source for your edit? Cheers, Nev1 (talk) 12:45, 6 July 2010 (UTC) No problem - I can cite book and website references, but as I am fairly new to Wiki editing I'm doing it incrementally - text first, then references. I'm the Journal Editor of the Greater Manchester Transport Society, which runs the Manchester Museum of Transport, so fortunately I have access to a large body of primary research material. Oh, and I own a Wigan Corporation bus! Jp4712 (talk) 12:54, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding sources and helping improve the article. I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Nev1 (talk) 13:33, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jp4712, and welcome to Wikiproject Greater Manchester! Thank you for your generous offer to help contribute. I'm sure your input will be much appreciated. I hope you enjoy contributing here and being a Greater Manchester Project Wikipedian!

As a project we aim to have all our articles comply with the various editing policies and guidelines. If you are contributing to an article, it is good practice to ensure that it's properly referenced with reliable sources, otherwise any contentious content may be removed by another editor. A good starting point for articles about settlements in Greater Manchester is the WP:UKCITIES guideline.

If you have any questions, feel free to discuss anything on the project talk page, or to leave a message on my own talk page. Please remember to sign all your comments, and be bold with your ideas. Again, welcome, and happy editing!
