Splendid sig in gallery[edit]

Thanks so much, Keith, for signing my Gallery Guest Book. It is so sad when users abandon great signatures because of peer pressure, but do at least keep it for special occasions! Athænara 23:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, it was a sad day when everyone started getting rid of them. Think I will keep the flag one for special occasions! « Keith t/e» 15:42, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

English medium deletions[edit]

I have heard the term used in countries where English is not the main language. Can't say that it is never used in NI - I can't be everywhere! - I have never personally heard it used. I just feel that the addition adds nothing of note to the articles. I would concur that the related wiki article is full of POV and weasel wording. Just seems like a user that wants to make a statement on the gaelic language issue in the English language wiki.Weejack48 23:31, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

The term (English-medium) is used extensively by the education sector, notably by DENI and by Gaelic speakers.
I am not surprised that you are not familiar with it. Most English speakers take their own language as the norm and have no others to compare it with. Schooling is normally offered in English in the UK and the fact that it is offered in Welsh and Irish/Scottish Gaelic is not generally known or understood.
Could you give me some examples of "the related wiki article is full of POV and weasel wording"? Eog1916 15:35, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Your revert of talkSPORT[edit]

The revert you made in the talkSPORT article (diff) had some vandalism left in it. I have reverted the article to a much better state, though it took me 15 edits to find a suitable version to revert to! --tgheretford (talk) 20:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that. Thought I had reached a half-decent version, don't know what it is with that article and bad edits! Thanks for sorting it out. « Keith t/e» 20:56, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Logo of the Northern Ireland Assembly notext smalltransparent.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Logo of the Northern Ireland Assembly notext smalltransparent.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. English medium deletions[edit]

Dear Keith, I'm somewhat perplexed by the delation of my article on 'English medium education'. As I am not long using the English Wilipedia, I'm still not 100% sure of its rules and conventions. The person who removed my article accused me of writing a 'polemic' ( an aggressive debate, attack on or refutation of the opinions or principles of another ) which I consider unfair and untrue. This person 'Stibbs' wrote "OK, I get the idea. You hate English and wish that the Irish language was used more in Ireland. Good for you. Start knocking on doors and telling people to teach in Irish. "English Medium" on the other hand means what any of the zillion pages that a Google search on that term tells you that it means - not what Irish nationalist polemicists wish it meant. I'm not saying that any of your oh so carefully selected quotes are wrong - after all, you can cast almost anything in a negative light with a select version of the truth. But writing an embittered article attacking the spread of English isn't going to help you promoting Irish much, is it?" Is this fair / appropriate comment? Eog1916 14:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Ego1916, I think English_Medium_Education now looks and reads a lot better. The 'cultural assassination tool' section was IMO highly POV, and was not a great interpretation of the (few) factual links provided. I'm not going to get into other users' comments, you will have to ask them what they meant. However you could give them a pointer to WP:Assume Good Faith. « Keith t/e » 09:14, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Dear Keith, Thanks for the reply. I value your comments highly, as I'm still not all that familiar with the English Language version of Wikipedia. Re: your comment that "" ...would you like to tell me why? I'm not sure what the problem with Cultural Assimilation (not Assassination) was all about so I simply deleted the words from my original text. Thanks for telling me about the WP:Assume Good Faith, I hope that my bone fides in regard to Wikipedia is still respected despite my wandering into areas that are often taboo! Hunger Strike Template[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering if there was any reason for the conversion you did of the 1981 H/S template nav-box thing (you know what I mean :P). Do you know if there's a way of tidying it up a bit as some names as spread over two lines and such like. Cheers. GiollaUidir 17:53, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi GiollaUidir, the template now used in the navigation box makes it easier for people to up-date it (using the links in the title bar). From what I could see there are lots more articles to link in it. Also browsers can roll it up so it doesn't take up so much space at the bottom of the page. I've put a couple of <br>'s in, how does that look? « Keith t/e » 14:28, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Ah, excellent! It does look a lot better. I wasn't entirely sure if it was possible to use the same formatting in Nav Box as the rest of Wikipedia-'tis only the 2nd one I've done. Thanks for your input! :) GiollaUidir 19:56, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I have to say good work on that guys. Well done.--Vintagekits 10:15, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Troubles in Kilrea[edit]

Bateman1 21:22, 3 April 2007 (UTC) here keith thats because there was no nationlists behind killings in kilrea its a nationalists area thats the only deaths during the toubles in kilrea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not strictly true is it? What about Hubert Gilmore (ex-UDR), Thomas Gibson (Irish Rangers) ? I'm not sure if any of the IRA bombs caused any fatalities. « Keith t/e » 21:29, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

The Troubles in...[edit]

Keith - When I started a lot of the Troubles in ... articles there was huge debate about listing all death incidents - incidents resulting in two or more deaths were agreed to be listed, but this does not mean that other major incidents (eg non-fatal bomb explosions for instance, which would be of major significance in a small town) could not be listed. See: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Troubles in Moneymore and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Troubles in Tynan. The Troubles in Kilrea article lists single deaths which it really shouldn't and is written in pejorative non-neutral language largely. The other articles all used CAIN as a reputable neutral source and were referenced, unlike this one. Strictly this one could be deleted as it does not cite any references. Hope this is helpful - I will add comments on the requisite talk page. Ardfern 18:10, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Ardfern, wasn't sure about the articles, and thanks for the comment on the article talk page. « Keith t/e » 15:21, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Breakfast merge[edit]

I made a merge of the Irish breakfast and the Full English breakfast pages at Full breakfast. Is it okay to blank the Full English breakfast and Irish breakfast pages and redirect them (and Scottish breakfast and Welsh breakfast) there? I included references to Ulster fry in the merged article but as discussed that page will not be merged. (Please reply on the talk page). --sony-youthtalk 21:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Template:British-Irish Council[edit]

Thanks for that, if we could do that with all those templates it would be better, User:Astrotrain and User:84.68.93.126 have been reverting my edits all day, astrotrain was previously banned for making personal attacks again me and other editors, and I believe that 84.68.93.126 is just a sockpuppet for him as he only appeared after I warned Astrotrain I was going to report his vandalism.--padraig3uk 17:16, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

No problemo, there didn't seem to be much need for flags on that particular template. Also, as the link was pointing to the Northern Ireland Executive the Ulster Banner was entirely inappropriate. « Keith t·e » 15:26, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

NI infobox[edit]

Yeah, I was unsure about what to put in as the titles for Ian Paisley - seeing as Blair has none, it is probably best to leave all the possible prefixes out :-) BastunBaStun not BaTsun 14:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Howdy Bastun! I know what you mean. Right Honourable is a prefix used by members of the Privy Council so Blair is also entitled to use it but they are not used on Wikipedia - except in the individuals own article, usually in the introduction. It is a complicated area and the use of honorific prefixes is covered by Manual of Style (Biogs). My general rule of thumb is to leave them out, and if I'm wrong someone will probably correct it! « Keith t·e » 14:48, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Template:Politics of Northern Ireland[edit]

This Template is about the current political setup, the Assembly so I think we should include them, I have also done the same with the template I created for Template:Politics of Northern Ireland 1921-72, and plan to do the same for the interim period of 1973-1986, as they also include links to the members elected.--padraig3uk 19:27, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Translink northernirelandrailways.PNG[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Translink northernirelandrailways.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ACBest 22:49, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Bbcradio foyle.PNG[edit]

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bbcradio foyle.PNG. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:05, 12 September 2007 (UTC). Fair use rationale for Image:Ulstertelevision_utvinternet.PNG[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ulstertelevision_utvinternet.PNG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

I'd like to take the opportunity to advise you on two matters which, being a member or former member of the Northern Ireland WikiProject or it's sister project on Belfast, you might be interested in the following submission about a recent terrorist attack Wikipedia:Northern Irish Wikipedians' notice board#News.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to ask for your help in reviving the Northern Ireland WikiProject. Given that there are only a small number of Wikipedians from Northern Ireland or interested specifically in the region, the project needs all the help it can get.

Image copyright problem with Image:DOE.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:DOE.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
