Happy New Year![edit]

Dear Kingturtle/Archive8,
I just wanted to wish you and your family a happy new year, however you're celebrating it. Whether 2009 was a good year for you, or if it wasn't the greatest year, hopefully 2010 will be better. Cheers, and happy editing in 2010.

Constant harassment against me by a small group of editors[edit]

Can you please do something about this? There are a small group of editors that keep harassing me by constantly insulting me and then requesting that I be banned. It has gotten well out of hand and I feel that the bureaucrats as a whole need to step and tell them to stop it. Here is an attempt by them to get me banned Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Wiki Greek Basketball. I am 100% confident that there must be some kind of site policy that is against trying to wrongly get people banned and doing it simply out of some sort of hatred or personal issues. I don't know what exactly to do about this other than to report it directly to a general group of people. That is why I am telling you and all the others directly about it. Because reporting it on the noticeboard is not working and does not work. As long as only a small group of people are involved they are able to harass you and get away with it. Please kindly tell these editors to stop harassing me and to not bring any false abuse reports against me again and please tell them to not attempt to wrongly ban me again. I thank you very, very much if you will help me with this. Thank you sincerely for any help as it will be greatly appreciated.Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 09:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is not the role of a Bureaucrat here, but it is most certainly a role possible for an admin (which I am) and any community member (which I am). I am quite busy today, but I can look into it tomorrow. Kingturtle (talk) 13:03, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Kingturtle! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 14 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 1,558 article backlog. Community de-Adminship - finalization poll for the CDA proposal[edit]

You are recieving this notice as you have participated in the Admin Recall discussion pages.

A poll was held on fourteen proposals, and closed on 16th November 2009. Only one proposal gained majority support - community de-adminship - and this proposal is now being finessed into a draft RFC Wikipedia talk:Community de-adminship/Draft RfC, which, if adopted, will create a new process.

After tolling up the votes within the revision proposals for CDA, it emerged that proposal 5.4 had the most support, but elements of that support remained unclear, and various comments throughout the polls needed consideration.

A finalisation poll (intended, if possible, to be one last poll before finalising the CDA proposal) has been run to;

  • gather opinion on the 'consensus margin' (what percentages, if any, have the most support) and
  • ascertain whether there is support for a 'two-phase' poll at the eventual RfC (not far off now), where CDA will finally be put to the community. Matt Lewis (talk) 01:42, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ahmad Shah Durrani - Birthplace[edit]

Sir,

I wanted to discuss with you the birthplace of Ahmad Shah Durrani. I think we have had this discussion before, and I see, someone keeps reverting the birthplace from Herat, Afghanistan to Multan, Pakistan.

Please look at the references provided for his birthplace being Multan, they consist of 1 ) Encyclopedia Britannica, which first of all can hardly be considered a historical reference, since it itself uses sources and none are provided and there is a question mark next to his time and place of birth.

Second, there is a website called the "Forum for Area Studies and Information Center" . Please tell me how this "Forum" can be considered as a historical reference when it is merely some persons own opinions with not a single reference on the page any sort.

Finally, there is the Multan City Chamber of Commerce website. Again, I do not need to explain that a City's Chamber of Commerce website should/cannot be used a historical reference for a piece of information for which all of Afghanistan would fight.

Sir, these are attempts by people to undermine the ruler/founder of Afghanistan and has very important implications for many people, and you guys are taking the "Opinion" of the few, backed by what can hardly be called "sources" and putting information on there that is offensive to millions of people.

I have provided you actual sources from books and historians that are credible but contemporary and from the past, and will do so again if you request this, but please change his birthplace from Multan, Pakistan back to Herat, Afghanistan where it is and should be. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Afghan25 (talkcontribs) 07:58, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Racial Literacy[edit]

Hello,

I didn't change the reference but my own research suggests strongly that the concept of "racial literacy" was actually originated by sociologist France Winddance Twine in a journal article of 2004.

I will research this further and will attempt to contact professor Twine. It is possible the that concept as developed by Guinier may actually be somewhat different than that of Professor Twine. Both seem to have published something with this term in it at about the same time.

I will follow up and let you know what I have discovered ASAP.

Thanks for listening/reading. Canticle (talk) 07:55, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Racial Literacy vs. Race Literacy[edit]

Hi,

I know that you have not yet responded to my earlier post but I have obtained information from Professor Twine on the "racial literacy" issue. I have received a communication from professor Twine as follows:

Dear Mr. Cronin

Thank you for your inquiry regarding my use of the concept of 'racial literacy'. I am very familiar with the work of Lani Guinier. We were both in the same class last year at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.

My concept of 'racial literacy' is not the same as the concept of 'race literacy' as conceptualized by Professor Guinier. I use the term to refer to a form of parental labor employed by parents to teach their children how to name, recognize, resist and manage forms of everyday racism. I use the term to refer to a form of socialization or teaching that enables people to cope with the institutional forms of racism that Professor Guinier addresses in her work on 'race literacy'..

I have been developing this concept in a series of articles beginning in 1999 and most recently in a 2004 article.

Sincerely,

Professor France Winddance Twine

- Hide quoted text -

France Winddance Twine Professor of Sociology at the University of California - Santa Barbara Chair , Race, Gender & Class Section of the American Sociological Association

And so I have followed through on reverting the article to my original. Perhaps a separate article should be done on Guinier's concept of "race literacy". I will look into doing this if I have the time next week.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Canticle (talk) 07:42, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rather than preference one or the other, both usages should be discussed in the article. Kingturtle (talk) 17:27, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Benjaminfranklin.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Benjaminfranklin.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. Another such user[edit]

Hi Kingturtle, this is 3swordz. There is a user, user:SikhGill001, that is continually spamming the Gill (clan) article, who was formerly using numerous ip's to do so and has now created an account, perhaps to avoid semi-protection against ip's. His edit summaries are abusive, and his edits are nothing more than aggressive OR. I was wondering even to bother with warnings since his goal is obviously singular. if you could perhaps semi-protect the page against unestablished editors or something, or block this user if they are a sock (which I feel may be the case) that would be appreciated.3swordz (talk) 18:19, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that you are on a sort of break; I will try to keep the mentioned page clear in the meantime, and try not to break any policies. I should add that this editor's contributions are confined to downgrading this already-troubled page only with OR, and has broken 3RR (I have also had to revert back, admittedly). To summarize: used multiple ips, is limited in contribution to one article, has used abusive language, and adds unfounded OR. I've warned 3x through edit summaries; that may not be procedure but I'd like to check if the account is a sock to even bother with a talk page. Thanks.3swordz (talk) 08:13, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin[edit]

I found some old vandalism in Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin, an article that you edited many years ago (in 2003!). Part of the text you added back then is what was removed in the vandalism. In the year that the section was missing, the rest of the article got expanded and sourced, but this section I recently restored doesn't quite fit now. I've been trying to find someone who has access to the sources used in this article, in the hope that the restored section can be sourced and fit in better with the rest of the article. Would you have time to look at the section on the talk page? I've tried stepping through the history to find who added most of the new content, but haven't found it yet. [...] Though having looked again, I've now worked out I should be asking Mtpascoe. Please stop removing images from List of Major League Baseball players suspended for performance-enhancing drugs. I would assert that this could possibly be an ownership issue since you have done substantial work on the article in the past. Regardless, per WP:IMAGE, images that are relevant to the article should be used if available. They are available so I added them. The issue with the table isn't that bad. The table is still readable and does not distort text. --Brian Halvorsen (talk) 17:27, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Goak[edit]

Hi not sure how this works but thought i would explain what a goak is and why i think it should be included on wikipedia. Goaks have become a term used by online fans of afc wimbledon who listen to home and away matches at a virtual stadium called iplough lane. All matches have a live commentary and also a chat facility for fans to talk to each other while listening to the match. another feature of the stadium is a written commentary posted on the site for people who cannot recieve the live audio commentary. Several years ago during a tense game AFC Wimbledon scored and in his haste the commentator updated the score with GOAK instead of GOAL. After much mickey taking the fans have adopted GOAK when urging the team on ie "come on we need a Goak !!!". As the number of fans who are new to these commentaries (both home and away supporters are allowed to join in) is growing , the question "What is a goak?" is being asked more and more. Now not knowing how wiki works could you please tell me how i can get Goak included, or why it would not be allowed. Many thanksWayneindevon (talk) 07:52, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional[edit]

Hi,

Confused as to why our Wet Personal Lubricants page was deleted as it was no different then the KY or Astroglide pages. We referenced national health studies that had been published, using articles from outlets like BusinessWeek and LA Times referencing not just Wet but several different lubricant brands...how was this promotional when we hyperlinked to six different lubricants? The beginning was stating who and when Trigg was founded, and the Pop Culture References are no different then the pop culture trivia other pages mention. Please explain. JS2NY (talk) 21:08, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is deemed promotional because you represent the company. Your virtually using Wikipedia as a place of free advertisement. Blatant examples of advertising masquerading as articles can be speedily deleted. Your contributing to Wikipedia in order to promote the interests of a business you represent. Read WP:COI. Sorry, but that's how it works around here.
You appear to be a capable editor though. I encourage you to work on some articles around here that aren't associated with your industry. Kingturtle (talk) 13:59, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional: Software Process Achievement Award[edit]

Good morning,

Due to the lack of a Software Process Achievement Award (which is an important software award in the IT world) article on WP, I created it using the official text from the IEEE Computer Society and SPA websites. I referenced all the sources, and also referenced the press release of the award being received by PSL company.

If that is what is causing the conflict of interest, perhaps you could just remove that particular reference and not the whole article which is not against the WP:COIN terms as is written with a neutral point of view.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration regarding this matter.

All the best,

Hi Kingturtle - you recently deleted an entry I made claiming it is promotional. I am wondering why? The entry contained no links to the company , and cited several independent blog posts. How are entries like UltraEdit or Excel allowed, but my entry was not? thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmadsen (talkcontribs) 20:00, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I interpret it as promotional because it is written like an advertisement and created by a user who has contributed to no other articles. Neither Hedgehog Development nor Team Development for Sitecore are notable. Blog posts are not considered valid references. Kingturtle (talk) 20:14, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I guess we can argue the notable fact since Sitecore has an entry in Wikipedia, and we referenced a blog post by one of the creators of Sitecore (yes I saw your point about Blog posts not being valid sources). But again, how does Ultraedit (which is a great product BTW) get a page, when all of its references are the company itself, save one pcmagazine mention? As far as having made no contributions - first I did create an Article - Here, and everyone has to start somewhere - right? I respect what you do for Wikipedia, and not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand the rules and standards.
You did not create the article, User:NjGarfinkel created it. And it is clear from his edit summaries that it was promotional. Ultraedit's article uses its own website as references. The article should probably be deleted. Kingturtle (talk) 20:31, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say death is not important. I said that the sad truth is that most human deaths are not notable for encyclopedias. 100,000s of people die each day. Each one is sad. Each one could fill a book. But few of them are notable. Kingturtle (talk) 21:02, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You should continue using User:Oldforgecrash. It makes it a lot easier to edit here when you have an account. If you don't like the name, I can change it for you. Kingturtle (talk) 13:28, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me for interfering, but I couldn't help noticing this conversation while I'm waiting for an answer below.
Kingturtle, I appreciate your work in tough areas, such as fighting spam and advertisements, but it seems to me that that hardened your interaction with other editors in general. Oldforgecrash had a distressing experience, and I don't think he or she deserves being commanded around, as in "Learn how to contribute to Wikipedia" or "You should continue ...". Please have a little respect for others. Oldforgecrash quickly came around and publicly admitting "You know what, i got a little carried away." and apologized. That is not easy for most people here even under normal circumstances, so he or she deserves a lot of respect for that.
Oldforgecrash, there is no requirement use a name when editing here. Neither do you have to go through any official procedure for changing it. That is only necessary if you want to transfer your contributions to your account. Since these have been deleted anyway, there isn't really a point for that. Of course, it would be great if you could contribute using an account, and there are some advantages for you, too, but quite a number of good and experienced editors choose to not sign up; so it can't be all that bad. I wish you all the best for you and your loved ones. — Sebastian 17:26, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sebastian, Thanks for your input. I don't see "I encourage you to stick around Wikipedia, learn the ropes, and help us out" and "You would help Wikipedia because you'd be good at it" as commands or as disrespectful. Also, I placed welcome message on Oldforgecrash's talk page. You are misreading the tone of "Learn how to contribute to Wikipedia." It was not said as a command, but as an invitation, following the previous invitations for Oldforgecrash to stick around. I could have left "Screw this, i'm not dealing with you anymore, you sick man!" alone and not responded at all. Instead, I chose to respond with an invitation to work on Wikipedia and a welcome message on Oldforgecrash's talk page. I apologize to Oldforgecrash for making anything sound like a command. That was not my intention at all. Kingturtle (talk) 18:09, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification! I now see that you meant "learn how to contribute" in the same way as "come to my party". Of course, you didn't say anything insulting or offensive, and I hope my post didn't come across as meaning that. In fact, it might have been the perfect response for a Vulcan. The problem with us humans is that we've evolved listening to each other's voices. If the tone of a message is open to interpretation, we tend to look at other signals, such as, how does the other react to the more personal parts of my messages? When we open ourselves to the other and when we apologize, we offer a chance for some warmth and connection. If that is not reciprocated, or worse, not even acknowledged, we may perceive the other as cold. — Sebastian 23:24, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times[edit]

I want to write an article on this book (http:\\malaysianmaverick.com). This book, and the subject of this book are both controversial and significant to us as Malaysians. Please assist me on how not to write in promotion tone. Thank you. --Huayi (talk) 16:03, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting The Continental (Organization) Page[edit]

Hi Kingturtle - hope I'm doing this right, as I've never used this talk feature.

Looks like you are the Deletion King - I'm working on adding references and content to a new article I am working on and it is suddently deleted. What's up? Don't see how it is promotional like most of these as The organization has been dissolved for nearly 4 years. And I haven't been able to put in the references yet that show it is notable... --StevorinoCasino (StevorinoCasino) 16:03, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stevorino, the article certainly promotes Joshua Geary, Christopher Neidhardt, Michael Hertel, and Steve Forbes. The organization itself is not notable. Kingturtle (talk) 17:14, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for implementing my request for username change. Because of the amount of contributions you have, this may take some time. Give it a few hours; even a day or so. It really depends on how busy some of the servers are that are used for this. If nothing comes of it in 48 hours, let me know. Kingturtle (talk) 17:20, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you remove the page? I created it because of a dead link from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA in the section on Criticism OglethorpesFriend (talk) 19:21, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Frankly, it looked as thought it was written by Mel Brennan, or someone close to him. Is that the case? Kingturtle (talk) 19:26, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it was copied from the TED website, but it looks like their terms of service allow re-use of the text. It's a bit murky; I was debating whether to delete it as a copyvio myself. But you're right, Brennan probably did write the blurb. —C.Fred (talk) 19:34, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lauren Winans[edit]

Not really sure how this was ever promotional. I thought maybe it was an error but after a 2nd delete I see it wasn't. No need for me to do it again. Is there just something in the bio?JBrownLW (talk) 02:03, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

She is not notable. Maybe someday she will be. But she isn't now. See WP:NN. But I hope you stick around and edit here anyway. Kingturtle (talk) 02:10, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think that actually is up for debate. to be honest, I don't really see what the difference is between her and someone like Veronica Ballestrini. Maybe you can help?JBrownLW (talk) 02:27, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Wikipedia Ballestrini is endorsed by Sennheiser, and an editors pick on If I Can Dream. And I suppose that makes her somewhat notable, although I've added a notability tag to her article. Kingturtle (talk) 02:37, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well my point was, alot of people on Wikipedia could be considered nonnotable. Lauren's photographer is the same guy who did Taylor Swift's pictures. Her debut single was penned by Ke$ha's mom Pebe Sebert. Some of this is considered notable. I think. I hadn't even had the chance to put her modeling experience in the bio. She also was as Veronica B was, a Votre Vu girl for CMA fest this past year (http://www.wahm.com/forum/votre-vu-139/510594-cma-festival.html). I'm not quite sure she isn't notable. Maybe it was my bio that was the problem. But it's always your call. : ) JBrownLW (talk) 02:49, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you like, you can state your case at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion. That's probably the best next step. Kingturtle (talk) 02:52, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I mean I'm not trying to go against you here. You're obviously an admin for a reason. Do you think it's possible you could help me here? Or do you think she is still not notable enough? If that's the case I won't go against what you say here. Was never suppose to be a war on this..lol.. JBrownLW (talk) 02:56, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is just my opinion. That's why you should take it to Requests for undeletion. Get some different opinions. Don't worry. I won't be offended. :) Kingturtle (talk) 02:58, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Well I was just hoping you could undelete it and then I'd see if anyone else deleted it. I hate having to write up something long here..ahh...: ) JBrownLW (talk) 03:01, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was promotional. It was an advertisement masquerading as an article. Do not make a new article for your own product or web site. Also, it was not notable. It does not have significant coverage. Sorry. I hope that helps. Kingturtle (talk) 15:38, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RaeRae, I deleted the article because of this policy: No indication of importance. User:The Blade of the Northern Lights tagged the article for deletion for that reason, and I agreed with the tag, so I deleted it. Upon closer inspection of Teen Top, they might be notable enough for a Wikipedia article. I am going to restore the article, but also do some major copyedits to make the article fit into Wikipedia's format. I cannot insure that the article will survive. Others might decide it should be deleted. By the way, there are no professional editors at Wikipedia. We are all volunteers. Also, I've had my share of articles I've written be deleted: List of songs about fictitious bands or musicians, Esoteric Agenda, and Alfredo Witschi-Cestari to name a few. Why was Become an EX deleted[edit]

Hi Kingturtle -

I recently posted an article about a company/brand in Washington, DC called "Become an EX". I wanted to know why the article was deleted and wanted to see if you can help me in any way get the article live. In the deletion log, it says "promo" next to the article name. If this does stand for promotion, how can I make the article less promotional? The article is written by a third party point of view and highlights what the brand/company does and its history. My dad is severely addicted to cigarettes, and I want him and others to be educated about this brand. The article is also written on a non-bias level, so it's up to people to read and make decisions themselves. Plus, it doesn't promote Become an EX, it just states the facts. Can you please guide me in what I can do to publish the article? Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ally Exy (talkcontribs) 01:40, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In an act of good faith, I've restored the article. I've also given it a copy edit. You'll need to work on it more. Replace the http://www.becomeanex.org/ sources with those of news articles and other websites. Also, I cannot guarantee that the article will be safe from other admins or the community deciding the article should be deleted. Good luck, Kingturtle (talk) 14:30, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Nonviolence[edit]

What became of your idea to start a NV project? You seem like a decent guy, and I think if we started it together, it might turn into something useful. As our first task, we could try and tackle the distinction between different NV articles. — Sebastian 22:33, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My proposal was squashed due to lack of interest. Want to re-apply? I am busy with grad school, but happy to help. I'll also take a look at the link you've provided. Kingturtle (talk) 00:29, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I guess I don't understand the whole concept of "applying" for a wikiproject. My understanding is, you find a couple of like-minded editors and just go ahead and do it, and I thought the proposals page was just a way to find such editors. At Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Nonviolence, 5 editors showed interest; why do you call that a "lack"? — Sebastian 20:45, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think to have it an official WikiProject, it needs to be approved. User:Optigan13 closed it as not created. I think we need to re-open it to get approval. Of course, I could be wrong. Kingturtle (talk) 20:47, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals, which doesn't say anything about a need to be approved. (Also, I don't think it should, because there is no procedure for who can approve. It's not like we have elections for approvers.) But you have a point about the time it takes; I probably shouldn't commit to more than some help, too. — Sebastian 21:50, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hoping to achieve "notable" :>[edit]

Dear Kingturtle, I posted a new article about the artist Patrick Jennings Brady that I hoped to return to with further citations including more extensive press coverage. Before I had a chance to add many more press clips (assuming that that is what determines "notability") the page was deleted. Should I try to post again with added press clips? How many press clips would be needed to prove "notability?" I have citations from a number of newspapers, magazines, and even e-zines, in the United States, but thought I'd start small. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RikkiAbzug (talkcontribs) 04:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Patrick Jennings Brady" retrieved zero results in a google search, as did "Patrick Brady" "Cig Art". Read Wikipedia:Notability closely. Is there significant coverage from notable secondary sources? Seems doubtful. Kingturtle (talk) 04:43, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is interesting that we conflate "notable" with Google. Turns out that the New York City free newspaper "Street News" did a front page article on Patrick Brady but because the paper shut down before there was a google, this notable secondary source does not turn up in a Google search. Google searches on Patrick Brady (even with "artist") turn up tens of thousands of articles, but finding the "right" Patrick Brady is near impossible. Shall I try again with the (pre-Google) print citations? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.179.131 (talk) 05:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The secondary sources need to be notable. The Street News, while notable for its purpose, is not notable for its content. Have anything that would have been read nationally? Feature articles in the New York Times? In Art News? Kingturtle (talk) 11:24, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yup! I have an Art News! Plus features in Cigar Aficionado magazine--with an international audience! Am I ready to try again? 67.84.179.131 (talk) 17:18, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Give it a shot. But I cannot guarantee another editor deletes it or calls for its deletion. Kingturtle (talk) 17:19, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We never can guarantee anything at Wikipedia. The weirdest things may happen. But at least our policies don't allow it to be speedily deleted if notability is established by a reliable source. — Sebastian 23:05, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to both Kingturtle and Sebastian--you've been more than fair and patient as I learn the ropes. I'll get back to the piece with all the new sources and I'll see what happens. It's been a pretty fun learning curve!67.84.179.131 (talk) 00:44, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Relist poll[edit]

Regarding this, sorry I was a little ambiguous in my wording of both the poll and my edit summary. I was trying to prevent your !vote in the "None" section from appearing to support that idea to somebody who just takes a cursory glance at the numbers. -- King of ♠ 05:05, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Kingturtle, I would recommend that you remove the comment you made in this edit, because this request for comment is basically asking people to place their comments under the option they do want, not the options they don't want. If you have comments to make on the options you don't like, you can include them as part of your discussion of the option you do like. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 15:52, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So you understand why I did that: The instructions say "For each of the three questions, leave a !vote and a rationale under the subsection that best describes your views." That implies leaving for and against comments. I have changed it to a comment. Kingturtle (talk) 17:53, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kingturtle, I see you have deleted the article I created about NorgesEnergi. The first time you deleted it I understood it was because it was too much like an ad-text. That's why the second article I created was much more on focus, using a template that many article about companies are built upon. After that I've had a long discussion with WikiDan61 about the content and sources. I have tried to fulfill his requests, and he has not given me any signs that he will delete the article after my latest updates. Is there some way one of you can explain what is wrong with the article now since it has been marked Spam and been deleted? Hi, you recently changed the rights of VernoWhitney (talk · contribs) after his successful RFA, but left the Reviewers and Rollbackers rights in tact. Aren't these two redundant to accounts with administrative rights? — ξxplicit 23:49, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

False referencing and article ready for merge[edit]

I don't know how you give another user a warning so I'll give you tip here instead. Among MOBA-games the genre on each page has been changed to "Action RTS" with a reference URL which leads to DotA 2's FAQ, but that page doesn't even mention action RTS even once. This is an serious issue in a semi-serious page. False referencing can not be allowed.

Here is the link History of the HoN page, dota genre -> Action RTS. Revision as of 23:04, 5 November 2010 by DarthBotto

I am not sure why you are telling me this. Is there something you are requesting me to do? I have never edited Heroes of Newerth or MOBA, so I am unsure what it is you want. Kingturtle = (talk) 16:42, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merging[edit]

I've recently edited MOBA so that it covers what is said in DotA (genre). DotA genre just sounds wrong so it can be deleted now.

Is there an article you want me to delete? What are you requesting of me? Kingturtle = (talk) 01:48, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am unsure why this should be brought to my attention. Could you please explain? Kingturtle = (talk) 01:48, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ISU prez[edit]

Just curious--what's the reason for this? HuskyHuskie (talk) 03:52, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Arnold Tompkins is deserving of an article. I won't be able to write one for a few months. But by redlinking his name, I am encouraging others to take the initiative. Redlinks are invitations to other editors. Kingturtle = (talk) 12:26, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, my question was a bit vague. I do understand why the redlinking is done, I was just curious as to what made a two-year president of a then-teacher's college noteworthy, when neither his predecessors and successors (some of whom served much longer) are so noteworthy? But I know you're busy--I'll wait for the article. HuskyHuskie (talk) 13:44, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kingturtler. What's the background on this excellent feature, and how come I never heard of it :) ? Cheers, --Kudpung (talk) 03:42, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Did you notice this large excision? Geo Swan (talk) 01:47, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I'll work on addressing those. Kingturtle = (talk) 04:01, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming Delicious is being discontinued by Yahoo! next year, so I added that. It's a redlink now, but you (or anyone else) can make it. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 04:24, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well that sucks. I have over 1000 bookmarks on delicious. I hope there is a way to collect my bookmarks and place them in some other system or service. Kingturtle = (talk) 04:26, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
