New page by an absolute ignorant![edit]

{{helpme}} Dear Ynhockey, I hope that so far you have survived my ambitious attempt to put a new page (Oz Almog) on Wikipedia. Just take into consideration it took me 3 days to decipher how to contact you! Please, can you help me improving the page?! I was adding and adding and adding citations, and cleaning and cleaning... nothing seems to suffice, although at this point it seems that this page has more citations than any other. I will do the final proof-reading myself, and very soon, but this notability issue is puzzling me - I mean, this artist had more than 50 solo exhibitions, there is hundreds of articles about his art (a small fraction is in on-line reading section)... No doubt he is notable enough, but it seems that the problem is in my lack of abilities (or maybe it's because he is a Holonian?!). Pls advise! Best regards from rainy Belgrade (Serbia) (KosherNostraGang (talk) 14:14, 1 September 2010 (UTC))[reply]

  • When asking for help, ask on your own talkpage and not someone else's -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 14:22, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing at all wrong with posting a request for help on another user's talk page. The only mistake you made was including the {{helpme}} template. This template is for placing on your own talk page to make a general request for anyone to come in and help you. If you are giving a request to a particular editor to help, on their talk page, you don't need {{helpme}}. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:41, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. Any tip how to improve the page?

Hi KosherNostraGang! Unfortunately, I will not have as much time as I would like this weekend to help you, but would like to offer the following basic tips to improve the article for a start:
  • Check out Wikipedia:Picture tutorial for information on formatting images. Ideally, each image should have a frame and a caption, although it's up to the editor exactly how to format it.
  • Please consider marking all external links that are not in the English language with the appropriate language icon. You can do this by adding {{de icon}}, {{he icon}}, etc. to where to want it to say "(German)" or "(Hebrew)", etc.
  • Like the above, templates such as {{cite web}} or {{cite journal}} can help you in auto-formatting references, sources and general external links.

Please do not feel pressured to improve the article quickly. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is a work in progress and there is no time limit. I believe that you should first familiarize yourself with the basic formatting and style options of the software behind Wikipedia (like the three points above), after which we can move on to improving the prose of the article and learning about the generally-accepted writing style of Wikipedia.

I hope this helped. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 20:50, 1 September 2010 (UTC) Great! Thanks a million :)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

Hi KosherNostraGang! The decision to delete all the images from the article was, in my view, completely justified, for the following main reasons:

  1. You did not own the copyright to the images, as you stated, and certainly cannot release something you don't own into the public domain (which means 100% unrestricted use, including commercial).
  2. Wikipedia requires that all free images are free also for commercial use. For non-free images, Wikipedia accepts only those images that can't possibly become free (e.g. if there is no free photograph of a person who died long ago)

I hope you understand the reasoning behind these rules. If you have free images that can be used for any purpose (including commercial), please feel free to upload them, but please be prepared to prove that they are your images and/or you got permission to use them in this way. I hope my advice was helpful. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 19:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Toda Raba. I will put back the photo of Oz Almog as it is a photo made by me an already published under my name (Vesna Hadzivukovic). Regards, KosherNostraGang (talk) 20:55, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That would be fine, but as I remember the picture, it had a very small resolution, smaller than on several other websites which did not give credit to you (i.e. you could have copied from them but not vice versa). Therefore, it is important that you prove that it is your picture, for example by uploading a much higher-resolution version. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 21:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Ynhockey. I already uploaded a higher resolution photo on wiki commons, but I forgot how to place it in the right position... KosherNostraGang (talk) 08:52, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
