Ross Petot

I noticed a stub article about this musician the other day and planned on adding to it and then it was gone. The article that was there wasn't any good but Ross Petot certainly is a notable figure in stride piano and ragtime and I don't quite understand why the article was speedy deleted because it wasn't utter nonsense and it was vandalization. Since the article wasn't voted on I wrote a whole new article about him and it was promptly erased! The reason given was that it was originally speedy deleted already. I don't get it. I am really miffed that all the work I put into this article is wasted because the original stub was deleted. What is the reasoning of this? Just because you never heard of this person or maybe never heard of stride piano does not mean that the article should be erased and never be seen again. Take a vote at least but now Wikipedia may never have an article on Petot because you erased the first stub? Please explain. Dwain 16:29, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Moldova and Macedonia

Simple question: why use double measures? 11:55, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I reverted your changes because the country page should be what one gets when they search for Moldova or Macedonia. The link to the dab page already exists on the top of these articles.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 11:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
If you put Macedonia in the search box and press go, you go to a disambiguation page. If you put Moldova in the search box and press go, you go to an article about the Republic of Moldova. Then, logically, "Macedonia" should redirect to "Republic of Macedonia", and on that article, there should be at the top, a link to the disambuguation page (just like the article "Republic of Moldova" has). greier 12:01, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
See also Ireland vs Republic of Ireland. --Tēlex 12:02, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
My point exactly!!! Why only the article Moldova doesn`t corresponds to the general use in Wikipedia? greier 12:03, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
A poll was held a few weeks ago on whether the article's name should be Macedonia or Republic of Macedonia, and the result was overwhelmingly in favor of Republic of Macedonia - see Talk:Republic of Macedonia/Archive10#Requested move. As far as I can see, Nightstallion unilaterally moved it (Republic of Moldova to Moldova) in abuse of admin privileges, and then Khoikhoi, messed up the redirect, so that the move could not be reverted. Three moves 1, 2 and 3 - all without consensus or even mentioning it on the talk page. --Tēlex 12:05, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I don`t care about that. I`m only wondering from where the double measure? Another example: Korea. 12:09, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
I believe Korea is more ambiguous because there are two Koreas, North and South.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 12:10, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Is there something I could do as an admin to fix it?--Kungfu Adam (talk) 12:08, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Nothing really. It's a question of consensus, and a cut n' paste move by Greier (which you justifiably reverted, as such moves are not allowed). --Tēlex 12:13, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

On the poll on Macedonia, the voters were, of course, Greeks. Macedonia should direct to Republic of Macedonia. greier 12:16, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Regarding block

Hey there... regarding anon IP 82.43.7.254 , their block (which you imposed for returning vandalism) recently expired and it seems they are back again only to vandalize some more - articles affected include Adolf Hitler and Happy Days. Perhaps a longer/indefinite block would make sense?

Yes, I'm new, and I don't know how the block requests work yet. --Ultimus 09:46, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Deleted article

I just noticed that the article States List Puzzle had been deleted. It appears you were the one who deleted it back in May. What was the reason for its deletion and is there a deletion page I could see? MK2 02:43, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Closing prod- WP:PROD--Kungfu Adam (talk) 03:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
A little short on details. Are you saying that someone else put up a "proposed for deletion" tag and when nobody responded it's an automatic deletion, so you deleted it after a week? If so, is there any way I can find out what the cause was for the original proposal? MK2 17:30, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
falls under wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collector of information. No indication that this puzzle is or ever was notable outside of the group at MS where it originated. This was the reason given.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 18:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Then I have to assume it was deleted by somebody who was misinformed. As the article indicated, the puzzle was known well beyond of its original place of origin. It was discussed on websites, message boards, periodicals, and radio stations throughout the country. Is there some way I can identify and respond to the person who originally suggested it should be deleted? MK2 05:42, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Edits to Fag

User:Arachnocapitalist's last edit to Fag came 2 minutes prior to the warning about the 3RR rule, which was given in the same minute as you blocked him, and as explained eight minutes later, he was not vandalising despite the edit conflict which resulted in the removal of a prior warning. He is not a vandal, only inexperienced, and he would appreciate being unblocked. Despite circumventing the block, he thinks he deserves credit for trying to make things right. He acknowledges, however, that you were correct. --221.56.76.21 06:05, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

The article you linked to does not really clarify why the article was deleted. Also, how would I contest the deletion?

According to policy, the article was restored and send to Articles for deletion. Now the community can determine its notability. We use proposed deletion because of the massive volume of unencyclopedic articles that are created daily. If the deletion is contested, we use Articles for deletion. Also, please sign your posts.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 17:22, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

A Spectre Is Haunting Europe

Hi. Please restore the deleted article on the band A Spectre is Haunting Europe. You deleted it on the grounds of "Notability". The group satisfies the notability requirement for several reasons, not the least of which is that it contains former members of other notable bands (Skinny Puppy, Download, aLUnARED) [1]. If you could restore the article I will gladly edit it to reflect this.

Eluchil404's RfA

Thank you for taking the time to express an opinion in my recent request for adminship. I have withdrawn my self-nomination because there seemed little prospect for further productive discussion or the formation of a consensus to promote. Many commentators offered constructive critisism that I will use to improve myself as a user. Others suggested that the nomination was premature and that a re-nom in a few months would be more likely to gain consensus. Thanks again for your feedback. Eluchil404 20:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Aucifer

I don't understand why you deleted this article. Is the band not remarkable, even though it has released 9 singles, 3 albums, 2 live-dvd's, 1 best-of album, all on a big record label, and whose music was used in a popular anime series which was even loosely based on the band and who had a rather big fanbase in Japan? Although, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that very last part about the anime being loosely based on the band, my mistake! But in any case, I think it deserves to be included in Wikipedia.

Read WP:BAND and tell me how it qualifies according that criteria and I will restore it.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 22:48, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

"Has had a charted hit on any national music chart, in at least one large or medium-sized country."

According to Oricon, the highest ranking for their debut single was 16 and they were in the charts for 12 weeks. 2nd single, highest ranking 8, 7 weeks. 1st album, highest ranking 6, 8 weeks. 3rd single, highest ranking 11, 7 weeks. 4th single, highest ranking 9, 5 weeks. ....

All their other albums and singles were on the charts as well.

"Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country,[1] reported in notable and verifiable sources."

The band has been on 6 tours across Japan and they even played a concert in the famous Budokan Arena, but I've no idea if any of this was reported in notable sources..

"Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)."

They were on Universal/Polygram.

"Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show."

This bands songs were used several times in the opening and ending credits of the anime Kaikan Phrase, and at least 10 songs were used within the series.

Also, the band has been in several music shows as a guest, like Popjam in 2003 and Music Station in 2000.

"Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast on a national radio network."

Aucifer was featured in multiple radio shows, but I'm unaware of their lengths.

No More

I will no longer be vandalizing Wikipedia or its userpages. I have being doing so for months, mostly because seeing my vandalism or that of others was funny as hell ("User X got swallowed by a Wale" is hilarious, come on) and to punish admins who I felt . My non constructive edits were done out of boredom, especially those containing racial slurs. (I am not racist, in fact I am racially mixed myself) And no, I don't think you had anything going on w/ Francks2000.

I started editing on Wikipedia (specifically the U of L page) mainly out of a 'cold war' that developed betw myself & U of L's marketing director, which escalated after I was featured in the Herald Leader critising his marketing of U of L [2]. I wanted to show President Ramsey how to market the "New U of L" and Wikipedia was my penpad to this end.

My vandalism started after a edit conflict over the Courier Journal's sports and editorial coverage, where my (what I felt were) legitment edits on the page for C-J critism were removed and I was blasted. After another C-J my account was blocked. [3]

Prior to this I had many good edits on KY related pages, which I am proud of. I feel that my work here is now complete and I will only edit in exiting new facts I find out or breaking news. Deletion of "is this music?" article

Hi

Nickelshoe directed me towards yourself as the admin who was actually repsonsible for the deletion of the article mentioned below, after it was uncontested after 5 days (I was remiss in checking my messages at that time). I've pasted in the chat between us so hopefully you have all the details that you might need to reinstate the piece. I'm happy to expand/elaborate on it, but as I say below, I don't want to get into a create/delete cycle, so thought I should see if it was ok to reinstate it first.

NIckelshoe asked me to contact yourself for advice as he reckons going through WP:AFD to restore might not be that simple. Hope that's ok.

Thanks

Stuart

editor@isthismusic.com

Thanks for the message. A very rational message, in fact. You see, I go thru the list of articles proposed for deletion fairly regularly, to make sure that people know that articles they started are up for deletion and how to proceed from there. A lot of people misunderstand my message and think I've proposed the article for deletion myself and/or I deleted it. They frequently take out their frustration on me, the messenger. The only reason I cited the web guidelines is because there aren't specific magazine guidelines, and I thought looking at some specific guidelines would be helpful, even if they didn't directly apply. The web guidelines are fairly standard, mostly requiring attention from secondary sources. I just thought it might give you some ideas for how to improve the article. If you'd like the article restored, that can be done. WP:PROD is for uncontroversial deletions only, so any objection, even after the fact, means the article should be kept. I however am not an admin, so I can't do it myself. If you click the redlink, then deletion log, you'll see that User:Kungfuadam is the admin who carried out the deletion after it was uncontested for five days. If you talk to him, he should help you out. Be sure, of course, to do what you can to make the magazine's notability clear, so it doesn't get deleted again. If it goes thru WP:AFD, restoring the article isn't quite as simple. By the way, I'm sure you're right that we have articles on less notable subjects. Unfortunately, we do have lots of articles that we haven't got around to deleting yet and get more every day. Anyway, let me know if you need anything else. NickelShoe (Talk) 14:26, 2 August 2006 (UTC) Hi I wanted to query the deletion of the entry on Scottish music magazine is this music? on grounds of "notability". (I didn't access Wikipedia after i submitted this, a few weeks ago, so wasn't able to contest the deletion. I'm not sure exactly what 'Notability' means, but I can see many items on Wikipedia which are less well-known, in general terms, than this magazine (which I admit, isn't widely distributed in America). You only need type the word 'fanzine' into Wikipedia to see what I mean. There's also our main 'claim to fame' in our fetauring the first ever interview in print wiht Franz Ferdinand (the popular music group, not the historical figure). I believe they're doing quite well for themsleves all around the world, and is this music? is referenced in Franz's own Wiki entry, which was the reason I created the deleted entry, to helpe elaborate on the Franz piece. I also note that there is some mention of 'web-only' content. I didn't really understand this. itm? is a print magazine - we have a website, yes, but who doesn't these days? Anyway, if you could restore the piece that would be great, or I can recreate it again (but don't wnt to get into a create/delete cycle - if you have any hints on how a new piece could be retained within WIki I'd be grateful) Thanks Stuart editor@isthismusic.com

Deletion review

I request a deletion review of Mark Matson (priest). Since you closed the deletion discussion for (or speedy-deleted) this article, your reasons on how or why you did so will be greatly appreciated in the above review.

I am the author of the subject article and did contest the speedy deletion of the article "Mark Matson (priest)" on its talk page. I did not have the opportunity to review your response to my contentions. As such, I believe that your deletion of this article is arbitrary and capricious I provided you with reasons as to why the article should not be deleted. If the standard by which you deleted the article was equally applied to all such articles dealing with priestly sexual abuse in the Roman Catholic Church (and there are many), all such articles should have been deleted. But they were not. I appeal your arbitrary and capricious action to Wikipedia. Aloysius Patacsil 10:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

We created the Out Now Consulting page in recognition of the business having one of the longest track records in the area of gay marketing in the world.

Out Now's work is relied upon extensively by companies, academics and community organisations interested in lesbian and gay people.

Our work is frequently reported on in the media about this topic.

Today's Europe edition of Time Magazine is a case in point - please refer to

http://www.time.com/time/europe/magazine/article/0,13005,901060807-1220477-2,00.html for an example.

Our business is also frequently relied upon by large brands to better understand lesbian and gay people. An example is here http://www.ingenious-group.com/pink_pound_conference.htm and my biog for that event is here http://www.ingenious-group.com/IGpageimages/pinkpound/Pink_Pound_Speakers_biographies.pdf to offer you more background to the nature of the organisation.

I would like to request the Out Now Consulting article be undeleted and would also be grateful if you wanted to provide a little information on why this occurred so we can maintain this entry in accordance with wikipedia principles.

Thanks for your attention,

Ian Johnson Out Now Consulting

It was deleted in accordance to WP:PROD for this reason- Seems to be non-notable. External links in article don't establish notability. Spam created by company. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 13:32, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Adam

Thanks for your quick response re Out Now Consulting.

Obviously I do not agree with the decision taken and would like to know can I appeal it? What are my options? I am somewhat inexperienced here and would appreciate getting another take on this - the original entry was crafted in consultation with other Wikipedia users and content was arrived at following their requests for relevance - which the history of changes to the page shows.

Thanks again for your assistance,

Ian - 31 July 2006

It has been restored, but sent to articles for deletion. The community will decide if it should be deleted or not.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 13:49, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Glow Pucks and 10-Cent Beer

Hey there...noticed the page for "Glow Pucks and 10-Cent Beer" was deleted, and I was wondering if there was any advice on how to reshape the submission so it reads less as an advert. Would posting a brief summary of the book and the list of the 101 worst ideas in sports history suffice?

Thanks...it was my first Wiki attempt and I may have gone a bit overboard. Feef free to e-mail me at jestersquart@hotmail.com

Out Now Consulting

I'm afraid I disagree that the listing is a "blatant advert" Adam.

I note too that the AfD guidelines state "Companies directly reported as significant players in major news events are generally notable is a reason for a listing in wikipedia."

The Pink Pound Conference in June 2006 UK featured Out Now Consulting MD as the Keynote Speaker.

Time magazine today covers the organisation. This year has seen Out Now Consulting covered in other media and in fact over 15 years Out Now Consulting has been frequently covered in news media in relation to the company's leading role in what is a new development in marketing - developing strategies to target gay consumers.

Some of these publications include: The Independent (UK) The Times (UK) The Guardian (UK) The Sydney Morning Herald (Australia) The Australian (Australia) Business Review Weekly (Australia) Het Financieele Dagblad (Netherlands) De Morgen (Belgium)

TV appearances by Out Now Consulting staff have been many and include: BBC TV (UK) Jim TV (Belgium) TCN 9 (Australia) Nederland 1 (Netherlands).

There has been much other media coverage of Out Now Consulting's role in this development during this period.

In each case, Out Now Consulting is reported upon as a "significant player" in the "major news event" of - the emergence of a visible gay and lesbian consumer market. Perhaps to you that isn't a major news event but today's issue of Time magazine obviously does as the story about the emergence of gay advertising in Europe quoting Out Now Consulting's work is the one item from the current issue that Time magazine has chosen to highlight at the top of their homepage http://www.time.com/time/europe/

I again request undeletion of the Out Now Consulting page.

Thanks for your attention,

Ian - 31 July 2006

Well, the article is undeleted, but now it is open for discussion for others. This is the deletion process. If the community decides it gets deleted, it will. If it decides that it can stay, it shall. It will be deleted within seven days if a consensus is reached to do such.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 14:09, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
