Apology[edit]

Sorry about that tag! Being tired and having many windows open, I failed to notice the user: prefix and assumed this was a vanity article. I sincerely and humbly apologize for this vandalism of your page. Ignoscere mihi and happiest editing in the future. СПУТНИКССС Р 03:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Assam[edit]

I admit I know abosultely nothing about the subject matter. I am not doubting your notes as being correct. I'm just asking you to please not insert them in that format into the article. If you feel that the article is wrong, can you please make the changes necessary to correct the article? It's not encyclopedic to include editor notes in an article and especially to sign them. Thanks. tv316 03:20, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Actually I am disappointed seeing misuse/misrepresent of Kamrupi matter for others' benefit. Kurmaa 23:42, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Soapbox[edit]

Wikipedia is not a soapbox. Please stop inserting nonencyclopedic content into Assam. --Improv 06:58, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Kurmaa, please start discussing your changes on Assam. You're soapboxing and mixing up the function of talk pages with article pages. It is important that you stop doing this, or you will be given temporary blocks until a discussion starts. I hope that's not necessary. --Improv 21:01, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I've removed it once again. This is your last warning. If you continue to reinsert your comments into the article without discussing them either here or on the talk page, you will be given short blocks. tv316 23:02, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But it looks like Wikipedia a soapbox seeing what have you been doing in Assam page on Kamrupi :-')

  • Some write papers to get their Ph.D. with lies that are great stuff for you
  • So you do not hesitate to give new meanings to words of a language still spoken
  • Is this not Wikipedia soapbox?
  • This Wikipedia soapbox stuff appeared in a message board called assamonline in yahoogroups
-')

Kurmaa 23:11, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • What for have you warned?
  • Are you asama maluka jaalandhar garuchur?
  • Or are you a maluka murukha?
  • Who are you to mutilate messup Kamrupi matter?

Kurmaa 23:15, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Who deleted my note on kurmaa?
  • Was that you too ?

Kurmaa 23:17, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have deleted a section from Assam page.
  • I warn you if you misuse/misrepresent Karupi for your benifit/sinister purpose you will not be happy (because Kamrupi people will nt be happy).

Kurmaa 23:25, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I admit that I know nothing about the material. You aren't being warned for trying to edit the article. Please feel free to make the changes to the article that you believe are wrong. You were warned for adding in your personal notes into the article and signing them on the article page. I even tried to reach a compromise by hiding the text from the article view, but not from the edit box. Also, please refrain from making threats against other Users on Wikipedia. Thanks. tv316 23:28, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • But did you understand my warning asama maluka?
  • I deleted a section from Assam page and do not go add that section, if you add make sure you represent correct Kamrupi meaning.

Kurmaa 23:36, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Restore deleted text from Assam[edit]

Hi Kurmaa, I have restored the passage that you have deleted from the Assam page. It displays the use of the word "asama", the very first use of the word in Assam and elsewhere. The meaning of the word "maluka" is not important. Most scholarly work that I have seen refer to that passage as the first mention of the word "asama". It is appropriate in that context. It shows disrespect to no one, just reflects what is accepted in scholarship. --- Chaipau 01:50, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Following is not opinion but fact:

  • maluka is not an ethnic group, you do not find them
  • asama is also not an ethnic group. so you should not be writing to propaget incorrect meaning
  • Now do you understand why language is important?

You cannot put a section of the sloka for your purpose. You need to display entire sloka and explain the meaning.

You want to tell the world you are scholar tell something else please leave Kamrupi alone

Bengali script[edit]

Please do not change the introduction of the article without discussing the matter with others. Most of the new information by you actually belong to the History subsection. Also, it would help if you cite a scholarly reference for the new information you introduced. Thank you. --Zaheen (talk) 12:52, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would request you to heed to Zaheen's suggestions above. If you have scholarly references to back your claims, please add that to the history section. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 20:20, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on British Political Powers, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Moreover, please add more verifiable sources, not only 3rd party sources. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Delsion23 (talk) 18:32, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some tips for you![edit]

Hi Kurmaa, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Kurmaa/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you. Pesky (talkstalk!) 08:36, 18 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How references work[edit]

Simple references[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Kurmaa/reftest and try it out.

Named references[edit]

Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook>
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref>

Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates[edit]

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Something to make your life easier![edit]

Hi there Kurmaa! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Blocked for sockpuppetry[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Kurmaa (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Kurma is my user ID; I am the sole user; I am neither a Sock puppetry nor a low-moral-Ahom like user Chaipau who on the surface it appears had complaint; this user has been practicing Ahom ethnocentrism/supremacy on Kamarupi or Kamrupi in Wikipedia; I wrote to this user in year 2006 leave Kamrupi alone; Kamarupi or Kamrupi are minority (indigenous people of Kamarupa or present Western Assam); Ahom have been occupying Kamarupa or Kamrup or present Western Assam region – Wikipedia shall amend it s policy to protect both (i) minorities as well as its (ii) users helping/defending minorities against predators. -Kurmaa (talk) 18:34, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Checkuser confirmed sockpuppetry. A normal admin cannot unblock this account. Furthermore, if you make another personal attack as you did in your unblock request, your next block is likely to be indefinite; see WP:NPA. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:43, 5 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gagged:

I am gagged. Chaipau complained against me I was not informed; I did not know until before I red the hearing on his complaint in my talk page. Now Chaipau alleges me in Reliable sources/Noticeboard; I am unable to defend myself, as because I am gagged, thanks to Amatulić. -Kurmaa (talk) 01:49, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lower Assam[edit]

Lower Assam is not a derogatory name, and it was not coined by the Ahoms. It was, in fact, coined by the British. Here is the reference that shows it. "[The] territory from Biswanath to Goalpara—was known as Western Assam; but another name—Lower Assam—gradually came into use." (Banerjee 1992, p. 9). Where Banerjee, A. C. (1992), "The New Regime, 1826-31", in Barpujari, H. K., The Comprehensive History of Assam, IV, Guwahati: Publication Board, Assam, pp. 1-43. Furthermore, there is a Commissioner, Lower Assam Division, in the Government of Assam.

So please do not go about replacing "Lower Assam" by "Western Assam".

Chaipau (talk) 22:54, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let user Chaipau know that Monday, September 3, 2012 11:59:59 PM PDT is the deadline-time to make FOIA requested information available ([1]). -Kurmaa (talk) 00:24, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Lower Assam" is derogatory[edit]

I have submitted the issue here. Chaipau (talk) 16:51, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why didn't you submit your issue to your Ahom chief minister Tarun Gogoi instead?
  • Look you low-moral-Ahom-commander, should Wikipedia not have a policy to safe-guard the interests of a minority-group (here people of Kamarupa or present western Assam) then it would amend its policy.
  • Kurmaa has zero tolerance to both Ahom-ethnocentrism & Ahom-supremacy on Kamrup/Kamrupi (present Western Assam).

Block extended to indefinite due to repeated block evasion. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:18, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have posted part of the talk on Western Assam to assamonline forum ([2]) as because there are some ethnic indigenous members from Western Assam as they are currently discussing current problems in Western Assam ([3]). I have not seen Chaipau (talk) responding there. I think he will not respond because he is not one among ethnic people and he is afraid of disclosing his identity.
