The article Convert Interleaf QuickSilver has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

difficult to establish context, but I think how-to guide and lack of notability are good deletion grounds

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 21:31, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sincere offer[edit]

Hi.

"a 72 yr. old retired former academic person" makes me sit up. I try to help people; just ask Howard Zimmerman - in fact, you may like to introduce yourself to him, on his user talk page - User talk:Hezimmerman.

Of course, I can only help within the remit of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Without wishing to sound condescending: You need to understand, it is an encyclopaedia - a tertiary source of information which presents things that others have written about. We collate information, we present it in a meaningful way, to add to the 'sum of all human knowledge'.

You want to help add to that, I realise. And that's quite possible - if you'll understand the requirements for adding to wikipedia.

First, you can't put "meta information", ie

"This article affects a relatively small group of people and companies, but for those who face the problem of conversion of Interleaf, the issue is immediate and the solution not obvious.

This article, therefore, discusses some of the history and problems associated with conversion of Interleaf (Quicksilver) documents, and, discusses two pathways to achieve conversion"

We don't talk about 'this article'. We just give facts, based on references to what "we" (community) consider 'reliable sources' - that's newspapers, books, and so forth. We state facts, and let the reader form opinion. It all has to be verifiable.

"The Interleaf company gave indications of failing by 1996-97,[3]." - yep, that's OK. Good information; referenced. Verifiable. Not really interpretation. Fine.

"By 2000, the company ceased operation. The code was purchased by Broadvision" - OK, so, now, we need references. Where can a reader check that? It has to be verifiable - through a published, reliable source. We cannot present anything we "just know".

"The market for Interleaf conversion is small, the task is complex and technically non-trivial" - that may well be "true" - I believe you. But, again, it must be verifiable through references.

I hope you understand. Let me know.

One thing is for sure - there's plenty of help available to people who want to add to Wikipedia; and I humbly offer to help. Any time. No question is silly or too much trouble.

I wish you all the best.

I apologize for the unnecessary obfuscation caused by the tech. I hope you'll stick with it, and seek more help, from me or others.

My name is "Chzz". You can email me, chzz@live.co.uk or, leave a message on User talk:Chzz.

You could ask for help on the helpdesk.

Thanks.  Chzz  ►  19:39, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
