Orphaned non-free media (File:Loudness_Breaking_The_Taboo2.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:Loudness_Breaking_The_Taboo2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. feydey (talk) 07:13, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Girlschool-band 1982-back.jpg[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading File:Girlschool-band 1982-back.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 05:44, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Doro (album)[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Doro (album), and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.dororocks.net/Doro90.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 20:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Loudness band.jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Loudness band.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 08:43, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I've left some more comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/Invisible Circles/archive1, I've just read through to the production sections so far. Regards, --BelovedFreak 21:01, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
I've finished looking through. A bit of work still to be done, but it's looking much better and I think could have a shot at GA if you can address some of these issues. Good luck! --BelovedFreak 21:16, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Show Ya[edit]

Thank you for your comment, and it does appear that I acted hastily when I removed the heavy metal albums category from the individual albums and placing it under Category:Show Ya albums. I was primarily going by the Show Ya article where it calls the band a heavy metal/hard rock band with my goal of limiting the number of articles in a higher level Heavy metal albums by artist nationality subcategories. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 21:53, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Anvil PlentyOfPower.jpg[edit]

Hi Lewismaster, My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller working on the 2011 fundraiser with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. In past years, we've relied on Jimbo to carry the bulk of the fundraising weight and he's done very well helping us hit our yearly funding targets. This year, however, we're broadening the scope and reach of the fundraiser by incorporating more voices and different people on the funding banners and appeals that will start running full-time on November 7th. We're testing new messages and finding some really great results with editors and staff members of the Foundation. You can see the current progress of the tests here. I'm curious if you would want to participate in an interview with me as part of this process? The interviews usually last 60 minutes and involve a number of questions about your personal editing experiences, as well as general questions about Wikipedia and its impact in the world. Please let me know by emailing mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks! Matthew (WMF) 22:06, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Hipgnosis[edit]

Thanks for creating Category:Album covers by Hipgnosis. I have done this for major book cover illustrators, such as Category:Book covers by Richard M. Powers. Now, would you agree that the album cover artist deserves to be in the Template:Infobox album? If so, how would be add this? I have never edited an infobox before, and its obviously a big deal.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 01:16, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. I am going to post a proposal shortly at Template talk:Infobox album and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums, with evidence for the significance of album cover art as already documented by the various articles and categories extant on WP. Please join in if you have time.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 16:53, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Spanish capitalization rules[edit]

Ciao. I last visited Rome in 1983, when I was shopping for records by many of my favourite Italian groups, like Le Orme, Banco, RDM, Goblin, PFM, etc.

Now, regarding Madrid – Las Ventas by Mago de Oz:
Spanish is not English; neither is Italian English. Every language has its own conventions, and we do not apply English conventions onto other languages.
We do not need to see Spanish song titles capitalized in the English way, because that is wrong.
I have restored the correct spellings to that page. From Toronto, Varlaam (talk) 00:58, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

I stand corrected, thank you. I was in Toronto in 1988 to study English at York University and indulging in my first comic book shopping spree. Lewismaster (talk) 07:47, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Girlschool[edit]

Hi...for future reference please don't edit anything i change on the Girlschool page! I actually work for Girlschool and the band endorse my website as the real website, i also do the official Facebook pages with Denise the drummer so any changes i make will be factual and correcting mistakes in which there are a few which we will be looking to change! Thanks Igirlschool (talk) 21:02, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

It's a free world and you are free to edit Wikipedia, as long as you provide valid reference for what you write. I remind you that Wikipedia has a policy and guidelines for writing articles (see Introduction_to_policies_and_guidelines for help). Saying to another editor what he cannot do is not one of them. Lewismaster (talk) 22:53, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
So you are saying that if the band themselves and their representative correct the mistakes on the page you will delete it? Igirlschool (talk) 23:24, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
for your information Girlschool see themselves as a rock band not a heavy metal band and that is one thing i will change and keep changing if you change it back! Igirlschool (talk) 23:28, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Dear Sir, Wikipedia is the result of the collaborative efforts of many editors, who are free to edit the articles. This means that the articles are always changing and not stuck in stone and you, me, everybody can add, modify and, to a limit, delete things. The limit are the sources, which are published articles, interviews, material present on other websites, etc., but not the word of the object of the article. If a Girlschool member decides that she wants to delete and change something only on her word, without providing a published reference from somewhere, her edit could be considered not from a Neutral point-of-view and challanged. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that aims to be objective and not biased, proposing as many points of view on a topic as possible, based on published reference. It is not a manifesto for an individual agenda or an ad for a product. Having said that, and if you are as you claim in direct contact with the band members, it would be a privilege to work with you, if only as supervisor, to better the article, bringing it to Feature status (which means it would be exposed on the first page of Wikipedia). It took months of efforts to gather all the articles and references to write the piece and I would not be able to do better.
Regarding the status of rock band, of course Girlschool are a rock band. But rock band is such a wide definition that you can put in it The Beatles, Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Rush and Slayer without effort. In my opinion, the correct definition for the music of Girlschool would be Heavy Rock, which is not contemplated as a genre on Wikipedia. It uses instead hard rock. On the other hand, Girlschool don't do ballads, they play fast songs with plenty of distorted guitars and short and poignant lyrics, which are characteristic of punk rock and heavy metal. I would stuck with what most critics wrote about their music, being a mix of punk and heavy metal. In various interviews during their career, Girlschool members themselves gave different definitions of their music (see article), but I think that it is also important how the outside world sees the band and their music. It is the same dispute started by Lemmy against the music press. He claims that Motörhead play rock'n'roll, but fans and critics know them and define them as a heavy metal band. His roots may be in Elvis, but his music, voice and attitude say something else. As Kelly Johnson said "heavy metal is anything loud and exciting and it covers the spectrum of different bands". And Girlschool definetly are in this group. Lewismaster (talk) 08:42, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:Walk on Water cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful.

Thank you. Werieth (talk) 11:15, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Forbidden (album) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Disambiguation link notification for October 2[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Hell Yeah! (Black 'n Blue album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Warrant (band) (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hello, Lewismaster![edit]

There is a contradiction point on page Led Zeppelin IV and I'll explain: On genre variations have a big difference that is noted when each page regarding a song is open. You can fix this?

Thanks and Sorry to bother you!--Frank Rocker (talk) 16:45, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

No bothering here. There is a discussion on the music genre problem that you mentioned here: Talk:Led Zeppelin IV#Genre 2. The songs that compose the track listing actually belong to different genres and I don't think that should be changed. The album remains a milestone of hard rock and heavy metal for its influence and some of its songs, but I would not bluntly describe it as a heavy metal album. You could reopen the discussion on the album talk page about this issue. Lewismaster (talk) 19:58, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

I do not know. But this is not contradictory? And coherence where it is? Not that I'm worried about it because it is boring and tiring.

Thank you again!--Frank Rocker (talk) 22:15, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

I suggest to try changing the genre of the album, adding folk rock and blues rock, instead of changing the genres of the songs. And see what happens... Lewismaster (talk) 17:03, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Comment?[edit]

Hi. Would you care to weigh in at this talk page post regarding genre changes at the article Led Zeppelin IV? It would be greatly appreciated if an edit war could be avoided there. Dan56 (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Scaruffi's self-published source[edit]

Per the discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums#Piero_Scaruffi_-_Final_Verdict_on_using_him_as_a_source_in_reviews - there's a very clear consensus here that Scaruffi is not to be used as a source in music/album articles in any capacity. Do not add his reviews to review charts, or his opinions in reception sections. Since this is a long running dispute, any contributor warned by the situation and who doesn't respect it, would encounter sanctions and could be blocked from editing. Thanks. You've been informed because you used this source here 08:44, 16 February 2014. Woovee (talk) 15:52, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of the long dispute and of the result of the debate. What leaves me perplexed is the menace of sanctions and blocks for using a not-so-good source. I thought that revert editing and block lists for bad sites were the usual policy. Since when did you change the policy? Lewismaster (talk) 19:09, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
The consensus reached on January 2014 is clear https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums#Piero_Scaruffi_-_Final_Verdict_on_using_him_as_a_source_in_reviews : Scaruffi's reviews are wp:self-published sources and don't respond to our wiki guidelines. They are not wp:reliable. Consequently, all his reviews are going to be removed in the next weeks by several contributors. If someone didn't apply this decision and put back Scaruffi's reviews on articles, an administrator would be contacted promptly. A first warning message would be posted on the talk of the contributor like it was already the case for this person here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Soul_Crusher#Verdict_is_in_-_he.27s_unusablehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Soul_Crusher#Piero_Scaruffi_Verdict Woovee (talk) 16:29, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
(stalking) Discussion, primarily on WT:ALBUMS has been back and forth over Scaruffi for a while, particularly after some editors (principally Soul Crusher) put reviews in en masse. I don't mind Scaruffi's reviews being treated as personal opinion, but consensus is that he has a particular axe to grind against the Beatles and that's what eventually led to the conclusion that his site is too much of a POV-push compared to more familiar sites such as Rolling Stone or Mojo, for example. Hope that explains things. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:36, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation, but I do not contest the result of the discussion, which appears perfectly legitimate by Wikpedia rules. I wasn't up to date with the discussions on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. I just did not like the tone of Woovee message, threatening repercussions if I dared use again that source. Black lists and less imperative manners could have the same effect. I won't be using Scaruffi's site as reference for album reviews, but his database may be useful as a source for other parts of the articles. I don't think that this use of Scaruffi's site qualifies for WP:BLOCK. Lewismaster (talk) 12:04, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
