DLR redirects[edit]

Just to note i created these stations as redirects as i think it is a bit early to show their proposals as they may not occur for 10 years but then again... But if you want, you can go to the redirects and change them into the proper pages. Of course i am talking about Creekmouth DLR station and Beckton Riverside DLR station. Future plans for railways[edit]

Hi. I see that you have been adding information about possible extensions to various railway lines. When you do this it is important to provide a reference for the plans so that it is clear that there really is a plan, proposal or study for these extensions and that it is is not just idle speculation. Thanks. --DanielRigal (talk) 17:03, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Can I second this and also recommend you be a bit more conservative about what stuff you add? Most transport projects that aren't openly backed by Tfl, DfT and/or Network Rail are going nowhere, so in most cases don't deserve a mention. --Mr Thant (talk) 18:48, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
The above specially applies to Crossrail 2/Chelsea-Hackney/whatever. It's not really in active development and whoever takes it on next is likely to make major changes, so putting a mention in every station in the current safeguarding is a bit much. --Mr Thant (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 19:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Chelney and DLR to Charing Cross[edit]

Hello again. I hate to be a pain, but you're adding an awful lot of junk to Wikipedia in the form of projects that sort-of exist but currently have no prospect of being built. No one is proposing to build the Chelsea-Hackney line - it's simply a placeholder that they can organise appropriate safeguarding around until one day someone makes a real proposal for this route. And the Charing Cross DLR branch is just a pipe-dream that deserves no mention beyond the short note on the DLR page. --Mr Thant (talk) 00:24, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Ground improvements at English football Stadia[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

An editor has nominated Ground improvements at English football Stadia, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ground improvements at English football Stadia and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Future infrastructure projects[edit]

Hi. I see you are adding information about proposed infrastructure. A few things to consider:

  1. Veracity of claims. Be sure to add a reference when claims are being made about future plans. Unsupported bold assertions or opinion are likely to be removed.
  2. Organisation of material. We have to make choices about the best way to organise things. Instead of creating a chain of stubs on each station of a proposed and as-yet unfunded extension, it is better to create a detailed summary article such Bakerloo line extension to Camberwell.
  3. Indicate significance. There are various types of proposed services around at the moment and it is important to indicate the significance and not give undue weight to things that are merely mooted or an aspiration. For example it is ok to create articles about stations that are under construction, but not a good idea to create them about stations that are just a stakeholder aspiration.

Hope this guidance helps. If other editors appear to be amending or altering your additions it is most likely because of these principles. MRSCTalk 07:01, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Kew Bridge Railway Station(s)[edit]

You have it that the platforms on the east chord at Kew Bridge were a separate station. What I saw at Kew Bridge station (before my WPing) suggested to me it was all one station. Maybe it depends on how a station is defined as being separate. There are First and Second Sites for some stations but not for Twickenham.
Do you know any source which might let me agree with you? WP things about the railways round there were incomplete, for example the original route to Richmond from the north through the KB east platforms and the short-lived Barnes curve was not mentioned, indeed it was said that Richmond was reached by the present line through Kew Gardens. My plan is find sources for the List of closed railway station in London now the list is fairly complete.

Aberdare Athletic Ground[edit]

Nuvola apps important yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Aberdare Athletic Ground, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. {{Former football league members}}[edit]

Hi LC. Good work on stadiums (New Brighton/Aberdare) and I agree with your proposals for splitting the Bootle F.C. article and creating a List of former Scottish Football League clubs.

However, I don't believe that {{Former football league members}} is worth having around, largely as it will grow very quickly (Mansfield and Wrexham have to be added this year). It has been suggested that it would be better as a category. Anyway I've nominated it for deletion at Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 May 7. Regards, пﮟოьεԻ 57 22:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Eastwood Town F.C.[edit]

Hi,

I see you've done some good stuff on this article. I've recently rewritten the Eastwood, Nottinghamshire article.

I also see you have created Coronation Park (Eastwood). I have suggested this be merged with Eastwood, because WP:MERGE I doubt there will be enough material to have a meaningful page. Please comment at Talk:Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

Now, I'm hardly one to talk about remembering to include references, but I couldn't help but notice your edit regarding "west London bypass railway from Staines to Watford, via West Drayton and Denham".

Do you have a source for that I could look at?

Speedy deletion of Football in Greenland[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Football in Greenland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ~ akendall 02:57, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I note your templates added to the stations on this line. Sorry to muck your edits about but I think one should read Doddington and Harby railway station not Hapby. Ernest William Hornung[edit]

I saw that you've written several articles concerning the works of Ernest William Hornung. Aughterless railway station - Auchterless railway station[edit]

I've just blanked this page having replaced it with the Auchterless railway station article as that is the way all the sources I can find (incuding those already quoted) spell it. I think though that this approach is a tad heavy handed on my part. If you require an apology from me or have any reason to suppose that the station should be called Aughterless let me know. New film articles[edit]

Hello, I see that you've been creating some new film articles recently! I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia; every hand is needed. :) I was wondering if I could suggest a couple of items for your film articles. First, as you may see in some of the larger articles, we have film infoboxes with basic film information. Can you find any time to include the infobox, which is found here? Also, it may be a good idea to provide a just little more content so the articles' notability can be clear (and show the content through reliable sources). Unfortunately, being on IMDb does not automatically make a film notable, so some editors may contest these articles. Just wanting to make sure that you can justify their stay on Wikipedia! Please let me know if you have any questions. —Erik (talkcontrib) 19:26, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your work on British film. Could you use Template:Infobox Film and try to add an infobox with details. Judaizing Jerusalem[edit]

Would you consider refaming or broadening the topic, as a means of framing the issue in a way to make it less inhernetly a POV problem?Historicist (talk) 00:29, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

I'd say the topic could be broadened, I'm not sure exactly how but it does seem to me that what is being discussed here, while a notable and verifiable topic, pre-dates 1967 or even 1948 and involves far more than just a Judiazation of Jerusalem. I'm still unconvinced by the current title and I would support a move to something more neutral sounding such as Alleged shifting of the demographics of Jerusalem - as it is only alleged. The article has improved massively with regard to POV having said that I'm sure there are many other viewpoints that could be added to it.
I hope that kind of answers your question - as I say I'm really not an expert on the topic and before yesterday I'd never edited on any Israeli-Palestine topics before. Lord Cornwallis (talk)

London Summit[edit]

hi,

2 things -

  • i see you reverted my correction to the capping on London Summit. i only recapped because it was capped (as were many other words in various section headings). an editor came along earlier and uncapped every word in section headings except for first word per heading. i only recapped something previously capped (and since London Summit has taken on a proper name usuage it should be capped). (i understand and agree that it is the talk page and it really doesn't matter all that much what is capped anywhere on a talk page...i rarely cap anything there, however i don't think it merited a reversion and a somewhat tutorial-toned comment.)
  • regarding your reorder of invitees putting UK before US. UK was the invitor (and host) thus host would normally come last. after all, heading is "list of invitees" before i change it back to putting host (i.e., UK) last, i thought i would drop this note.

regards.--71.183.238.134 (talk) 02:44, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the first point, you generally shouldn't edit other editors posts on a talk page unless they are vandalism in which case they should be removed completely. Apologies if I sounded tutorial or anything, but I was a bit bemused why somebody would take the trouble to correct something on the talk page. However it isn't a big deal, capitalised or uncapitalised.
With the list of leaders you may have a point, but I'd probably advocate removing the line saying that the following countries were invited by the UK. The intro probably needs a brief summary on those who attended, and the sentence and the cite could be moved there. Then we could list the leaders alphabetically. OtherwiseI'd guess there will probably be other people coming along and moving it in the future and pointing out the alphabetical thing, thinking its an oversight. But again it's not really a big deal either. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 02:56, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

POV[edit]

Please expand your reasons for adding a POV-headnote at 2009 Strasbourg-Kehl summit. The only reason I dispute your opinion is that I drafted most of the text, and I would hope to do better in future. I would have thought I had managed to contrive a non-POV presentation, or at least, that I'd pulled together a sufficiently well-balanced compilation of material from scrupulously neutral sources. In what specifics was that effort unsuccessful? More importantly, what might have bee done differently? Most important, what would you propose needs to be done to remedy what you perceive as an inappropriate POV in this article?

In this context, perhaps it would be helpful if you would watchlist 5th Summit of the Americas and 35th G8 summit so that you can help me understand how to avert unhelpful POV in those developing articles? --~~

Its largely the following section in the 'Summit Agenda' that caught my eye,
United States President Barack Obama posed a unique quandary as Europeans asked themselves how best to respond to an ally who is sending all the signals they had desired. After eight years of U.S. badgering and unilateralism, some re-thinking became necessary in the face of a Obama's focus on moving toward agreement, concensus, and multilateralism. Europeans with diverging views on economic and foreign policy were united against the U.S. policy under President George W. Bush; however, with Obama's election, the question became more to do with whether Europe can find its voice when Europeans are in basic agreement with American
Its quite POV to suggest that Bush was "badgering" or behaving unilitareally which is an opinion rather than a fact. The sections also sounds a little too much like commentary - if its qouting a commentator then it should be placed in qoutes and attributed to them, rather than implying that these are the opinions of wikipedia.
Apart from that its generally a well-written article. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 00:23, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Too long[edit]

Hi Cornwallis, I've visited one of your battlegrounds.

I want to split my war film page, either at the 19th or 20th century mark, but I know not how. Dost thou know how?

Varlaam (talk) 00:55, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, yeah looking at the article I'd probably suggest creating the split at 1900, as that seems roughly halfway through the article. There are several ways to do it, but the best might to be to create seperate List of films based on war books pre-1900 and a post 1900 articles and use the current article as a disambiguation page.
By the way you've done a great job on the article - really interesting reference point. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 01:06, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Well, I was a Top Contributor to the IMDb years ago (they tell you if you are one).
So the film side is straightforward for me.
I'd rather not muck up the split. Would you be interested in doing the honours? Your suggestion sounds fine.

AfD nomination of Crossrail[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Crossrail. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Crossrail (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:17, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Guy Newall[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Guy Newall, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Biographical stub doesn't state notability of subject.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. RfD nomination of Comic play[edit]

I have nominated Comic play (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for discussion. British films[edit]

Thanks for adding the British film articles. Please note that the stub-tag for British films has been expanded to include the decade of the film (from the 1930s onwards). For example, your aritcle for Bond Street (film) was originally tagged with {{UK-film-stub}} and has now been tagged with {{1940s-UK-film-stub}}. If possible, please add the decade tag, instead of the generica UK-film-stub tag. Thanks! Lugnuts (talk) 16:10, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, cool. I will do in future. Thanks for letting me know. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 18:49, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Massingham, Norfolk[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Massingham, Norfolk, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Although there is a Great Massingham, together with the former RAF Great Massingham, a Little Massingham, and even a former Massingham railway station, there is no actual place called Massingham marked on streetmap, multimap or google maps.

Pierre Benoit with no circumflex accent[edit]

Hi Cornwallis, I'm a french speaking contributor (sorry for my English). I see you've moved "Pierre Benoit" to "Pierre Benoît". Though the french Christian name "Benoît" is actually to be spelled with a circumflex accent, the family name of the novelist "Pierre Benoit" is to be spelled without accent. I can assure you and produce proof if necessary. That's a common mistake among french contributors we have also to fix from time to time. --YSidlo (talk) 17:58, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Trade Union Group of Labour MPs[edit]

Re: Your request for additional citations for verification. I am not sure why you think this little article needs more citations as the one there seems to me to be sufficient. Will the following do? If so, do you just want adding after the other one. It doesn't seem to me to add anything useful but...

A Guide to Trade Union and Labour Party Links p8 [1]

Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 16:36, 19 August 2009 (UTC))

Yeah adding another should be fine - although a third party source (a media article mentioning it, for instance) would be even better. I've heard of the group myself and I'd say it was notable - but others will sometimes come along and nominate it for deletion if they think its notability hasn't been demonstrated by verification through citations. Regards. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 16:50, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Heads up[edit]

Just a heads up. You do know that imdb is not a WP:Reliable source and is not used in references because like wikipedia it is a user generated site. Therefore we tend to link it in the external links without using it as a formal template. Besides which there is a template that is used for it rather than a bare url see The Surgeon's Knife. Himalayan 19:11, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Following on from Himalyan's helpful advice, I'd like to give you the following information to help you when you're creating new film articles. BTW - thanks again for putting in so much hard work in starting so many missing film articles - each one is needed! I've expanded the article for The Surgeon's Knife. Please feel free to use that as base template for any new pages you create (I myself use a recently created article I've made as a starting point). Hopefully you'll find the following useful:
  1. Always include the film infobox. Each new article should contain this as a minimum.
  2. Include in the infobox the name of the director, producer, writer, starring cast (limited to a couple of names), cinematographer and editor. Also include the release date, runtime, country and languge.
  3. The country can be entered as {{FilmUK}} or {{FilmFrance}}, etc. This will also populate the category automatically.
  4. The language can be simply entered as English, French, German, etc, without any piped links (eg: English. Doing this also auto-populates the category.
  5. The intro should contain the country, genre and director. The country should be piped as follows: [[cinema of the United Kingdom|British]]. Try to avoid linking directly to "UK" or "Britian" as thousands of articles link there.
  6. Always add the main cast. Link to all the actors, and fix any incorrect links as you go through them one by one. Where possible, add to the actors' filmography so the film article has lots of incoming links, avoiding the possibility of having an orphaned article. Check what now links to The Surgeon's Knife.
  7. Place the Cinema of the UK template below the external links and above the categories.
  8. Most genre categories are broken down by decade. For example, instead of using Category:Crime films, you can use Category:1950s crime films.
  9. Place the stub below the last category.
  10. Last, but not least, once you've created your article, please tag the talk page with the film tags and taskforce tag. Please see the talk page of The Surgeon's Knife for more.

Again, I hope you find these hints useful. By no means is this definitive and we all have our own style of creating articles. If you need any further help, please drop a message on my talk page, or on the discussion page of the film project. Thanks again for your continued work on adding new films articles! Lugnuts (talk) 13:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry - I was called unexpectedly away from my computer while I was still creating the article hence it's skeletal state. With regard to tagging I usually wait until I have created 10-20 articles and then tag them in one go. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 03:27, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Siege of Kolberg[edit]

Regarding this: How about moving Siege of Kolberg (1761) to Sieges of Kolberg during the Seven Years' War or Sieges of Kolberg (1759-1761)? The unsuccessful sieges of 1759 and 1760 don't have an article yet and are imho unlikely to ever get one. Best Skäpperöd (talk) 13:32, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

Battle of the Monongahela[edit]

Since you did a lot of the work on Battle of the Monongahela, I'm wondering if you know what the mysterious "Bornemann" is that is cited there. If the article is not on your watchlist, you might look at its recent edit history -- there are inconsistencies in the figures (between the infobox and article text) that an anon editor "corrected" by removing numbers cited to "Bornemann", a work not otherwise identified. Magic♪piano 00:10, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I have a feeling I copied the infobox from the Braddock Expedition, when I was splitting off the seperate Battle of the Monongahela article. That must be where the Borneman figures came from. It was quite a while back so I can't be entirely sure. I'll have a look at Fred Anderson's Crucible of War tomorrow and see what figures he gives. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 03:12, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Ronald Shiner[edit]

You recently added a filmography for Ronald Shiner - well done. I can't identify who added the photograph to his article - it certainly doesn't look like Ronald Shiner to me - does it to you? Perhaps you are more expert in this than I am, and can locate a better photo to use. Fairlightseven 29th May 2010 Fairlightseven (talk) 15:49, 29 May 2010 (UTC) P.S. I have expanded the article on Innocents in Paris. Fairlightseven (talk) 16:12, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I added the filmography as part of a wider attempt to expand coverage of British films and actors but I wouldn't claim to have a great knowledge of Shiner or his films. The picture does look a little odd, it could be him taken from a very strange angle - but it doesn't much look like him from the handful of films I've seen with him in. Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Question from Gnthomson[edit]

I have recently read "The Complete Short Stories of Raffles" by E W Hornung and discovered when I looked up one of the short stories on Wikipedia: The Gift of the Emperor that it appears to be factually incorrect on several points (where it was set, involvement of the British Foreign Office etc.). I would like to know if Hornung wrote two versions of this short story and if not how one goes about correcting the Wikipedia entry. I have posed my questions on the article's discussion page and wondered if this was the correct approach to get an answer? Thanks Gnthomson (talk) 16:06, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for drawing it to my attention. It was quite a long time ago, but a brief glance suggests that the plot describes the TV episode rather than the plot of the book so I've moved it down the page to that. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 15:55, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Delayed Action[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Delayed Action, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article that does not provide sufficient context to identify its subject. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- Ice (talk) 23:56, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi - I added a link to a new page I've created for Comin' Thro the Rye (1923 film) for the Alma Taylor page. I'm working on the Nancy Price page (pretty much alone) wondered if you'd take a look at it and make suggestions - I'd be really grateful for some help in getting a photo on there - the policies defeat me entirely! cheers Excellentone. Proposed deletion of Jonathan Coy[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Jonathan Coy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WuhWuzDat 17:04, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Cut-and-paste move, and primary topic[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Revolutionary Wars a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Revolutionary War. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen.

In addition, your rationale for changing Revolutionary War from a redirect to a disambiguation page, according to your edit summary, was that both conflicts are "significant." I don't disagree with that, but that is not the standard we use for determining whether one of the topics is the primary one to which the title should take the reader. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 14:37, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Palentine[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Palentine, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 20:23, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

German films and copyright notices[edit]

Hi Lord C. Thanks again for all the work you've done on starting British and German films. Just to note, that along with the British films, German films can now be stubbed by decade (eg 1950s-Germany-film-stub), instead of just Germany-film-stub.

I also notice all the copyright notices on your talkpage. This happened to me when I first started added film articles (many years back), because of the info looking like IMDB. The bot-owner has a white-list of usernames and you can be added to it to stop getting the notices. Lugnuts (talk) 08:15, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about the Germans stubs. Do you know how I can get on the white-list? Thanks. 18:30, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Sure - just ask on this talkpage. Lugnuts (talk) 07:51, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Cheers. That's pretty logical actually. I assumed it would be something more complicated. Thanks. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 23:24, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Rida Johnson Young[edit]

Hi. You added information here, but you did not add a citation. Would you kindly note your source? See WP:V. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:13, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. Of course the film exists, and IMDB says that it is based on Young's play, but it does not say when she wrote the play or where it was produced, and in any case IMDB is not an RS. I'll remove the redlink for now and leave it with a cn tag, but if you run across a source later, please add it. Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 13:39, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Navigation boxes[edit]

Hi Lord Cornwallis. I notice you have been using navigation boxes such as {{CinemaoftheUK}} on several new articles. It has been consensus for quite a while now not to include these in articles that are about individual films. I'm not gonna ask you to go back and remove them, but would appreciate if you stopped adding them to the great new articles you are making. Thanks! BOVINEBOY2008 19:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. It's not a problem at all (one less thing for me to add on new articles). Out of interest, what was the reason for the decision not to include it on film articles? I've always found it quite a useful link. Anyway, I won't add any more to new articles. Cheers. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 00:26, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
The idea was that the links in the navigation box were too generic and unrelated for a single film. Also, generally, navigation boxes are only found on articles they directly link to. BOVINEBOY2008 00:39, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

There is no such consensus BTW..♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:59, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

British films of the 1930s[edit]

Hi. Great work on building these up. I've split by year, hope this is OK. If you could create the red linked categories as with 1940s like Category:Lists of 1930 films by country or language and create the template e.g Template:1930 films like Template:1940 films they can also be placed in other articles like American films of 1930, French films of 1930, Italian films of 1930 etc.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:59, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Yep, sure. Will do. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 17:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Edwin Greenwood[edit]

Thank you for starting the page for Edwin Greenwood. I have an interest in him, because he was my late mother's first husband. I never knew him, because he died more than ten years before I was born. My mother was married to him at Amersham Church, Buckinghamshire, in 1934: among the guests were the writer Arthur Machen and his wife Purefoy, who lived in Amersham at that time, and I have wedding photographs which show the company at the reception.

I managed to add some photographs of Greenwood to his IMDB page (which was quite an undertaking!), before I gave the originals to the British Film Institute. His death coincided with the outbreak of war in 1939, which may be one reason why he is scarcely remembered today, whereas Alfred Hitchcock lived on and became world-famous. My mother often said that he made significant contributions to some of Hitchcock's early films, for which Hitchcock took most of the credit; she reckoned the "glass floor" effect in The Lodger was his idea, for instance.

I hope I shall have time to add to Greenwood's page, even though my own knowledge of his life is not, as yet, very detailed. I have a certain amount of archive material somewhere, which may be useful, as well as the British Passports that he and my mother used to visit Berlin in 1935. Their stay was brief, because the German bank would not part with funds they had hoped to pass on to the 'underground' groups that were getting Jewish families out of Germany before it was too late.

Greenwood was also a novelist. His books were usually published in both Britain and the United States, sometimes with different titles in each country (French Farce; Miracle in the Drawing-Room; Skin and Bone; to name three. The Deadly Dowager, I think, was the British title of Skin and Bone.). I hope I will be able to compile a full bibliography eventually. I also have the typescript of an unpublished novel.

He had a son by a previous marriage, Michael Greenwood, who lived in Hove, Sussex, before moving to Toronto, Canada, more than 20 years ago now. I met him and his wife Louise, and their daughter Julia (my near-contemporary) when I was a child, but have lost touch with them.

IMDb templates[edit]

Hi Lord Cornwallis, I found you through Special:NewPages. Thank you for all the film-related articles you have created ;) One thing though, when using the IMDb template to create external links you need to use {{IMDb title}} for films and {{IMDb name}} for people. {{IMDb}} is a redirect to the name version. Example: before, after. (Also note the second parameter which is needed to hide the disambiguation). I found more while going through the new pages list, but don't know how many more there are in total.

I can help out with repairing the links, but before I start I would like to have an ok from you to avoid Wikipedia:Wikistalking. A short "go go go!!" is all I need ;) jonkerz 00:12, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about the IMDb thing. I'll make sure I add the link properly in future articles I create.
With regard to the past articles - I've probably created quite a few over the last couple of years. I was actually planning to go back through the film and actor acticles I'd created to add infoboxes, make sure they're properly tagged (etc.) so I can correct the IMDB links while I'm about it, and save you the trouble. If thats fine with you? Cheers. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 15:03, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok, no problem. By the way, they are pretty easy to spot since the IMDb title template is in italics while the name version is not. Cheers, jonkerz 01:33, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll make a start on it in the next few days. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 12:19, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Leyland Hodgson[edit]

Why are you creating an article for an actor who wasn't even credited for the majority of the roles he played? He's not a notable actor in any way. We're not IMDB, we don't need to have articles on every actor who ever appeared in a film. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:07, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

I've nominated it for speedy deletion. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:10, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
Same with Gordon Richards (actor), also non-notable. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:17, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
...and Alec Craig, bit parts, mostly uncredited, non-notable. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:19, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
...and David Clyde (actor), same reasons. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:21, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
...and Douglas Walton (actor), same reasons Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:25, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
...and Charles Coleman (actor), same reasons. These are all non-notable actors. Many people made careers appearing as bit players in many films, but that doesn't make them notable. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:30, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

I've also speedy-tagged Guy LeFeuvre, Lyn Evans (actor), Matthew Boulton (actor). Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:13, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

As you'll note by the redlinks here, an administrator has agreed with my speedy-deletion tags and has deleted the articles. I would ask you to please not create any more articles of this sort -- a generic single-sentence lede section followed by a filmography list -- as they really don't fulfill our notability requirements. The article needs to provide some reason, other than sheer number of films, that the actor is notable, and worthy of having an article in the encyclopedia.

I'd also ask that you lend a hand in undoing the edits you made which added the names of these actors to numerous films, when they played bit parts not worthy of being listed in cast lists (which, again, are not meant to be comprehensive). Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:50, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Mackenzie Ward[edit]

Hello Lord Cornwallis,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Mackenzie Ward for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Cobalion. Setting Justice everywhere. (talk) 13:43, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Lock Up Your Daughters (film)[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Lock Up Your Daughters (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Questionable notability, only source listed is IMDB, very stubby.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Preceding signed comment added by Cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 16:22, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

German films[edit]

Hi: I appreciate your zeal in creating articles on early German films; however, I don't see any advantage to creating them at an English title if it's never used in sources, and especially if it's a mistranslation. Both are the case with Der Herzensphotograph, which you created at The Heart Photograph - Photograph is a 'false friend' in German, it means 'photographer' not 'photograph', and I have accordingly created a redirect at The Heart Photographer, but I haven't found any uses of the translated title. Both your cited sources in the article use the German title. Also, those are really rather weak sources - IMDb and a print-on-demand book. There are better sources available on GoogleBooks, and it's really a concern when an article is created with such weak sourcing, so I'll be spending some time adding a few better references, since the mistranslation and lack of translation of terms in the cast list suggest you don't read German. I'd like to suggest that it's not very useful to create little stubs like this when you can't read what sources there are: they don't add much hat we didn't have in the existence of the redlink in the filmographies of the actors and director.

Also, when you add a new article to a filmography, could you please use the established format of the list? You appear to have just copied and pasted the new entry regardless of whether the list used the same format. This looks unattractive and makes the information that much harder to take in at a glance (which is the main purpose of a list). I'm slowly going through fixing these, but please from now on, fit it in with the other listings. Thanks! Yngvadottir (talk) 12:50, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Mister Quilp[edit]

Greetings! I wanted to let you know that I have made a small attempt today to flesh out this article, which you began 3 years ago. I have a lot more work to do, but something is better than nothing and since you cared enough to begin the work, I wanted to thank you for that and alert you to my interest. I was just about 10 years old when this film came out but Anthony Newley's related Talk Show blitz in the USA coincided with my own serious bout of pneumonia. As a result, I was held out of school for many weeks where I lay upon the couch catching him on daytime TV beating the drum to promote the film. I have such vivid memories of Newley being a regular TV presence as a child and yet there is little interest in his biographical article or most of his films. I found him a fascinating person to observe for reasons I can't quite define. He had such an odd affect to his singing style. it bordered on comic pomp and yet he was so compelling that I recently read his biography. I had to trek all the way to the main Library in Los angeles to locate it and it was almost as Dickensian as the Dickens characters he went on to play. I need to check the book out again in order to improve his bio and the article on Quilp. is your interest strictly in the film's source material or are you also interested in Newley? Just wondering. LiPollis (talk) 21:54, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

British cinema[edit]

Can you do me a favour and continue adding the proper imdb links on the British articles like List of British films of 1930? All you have to do is just change the year date of course! America needs adding too, see American films of 1944 one which I've done. I've done Italy and France so far... The old links are useless at the moment! gradually I intend to go through the lists and ensure we have most of the films listed and try to start as many as possible.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

For the edit on Ernest Miller, that guy has a huge film listing-not sure if I could ever get it started-but if you want you could help me with it. I'm surprised he had no page until now. Wgolf (talk) 16:01, 9 March 2014 (UTC) I also added a film editor today with tons of credits that I did put quite a bit but got bored ha ha, it was for Ted J. Kent. Wgolf (talk) 02:10, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Well adding some Oscar nominees are harder then others[edit]

Given how some have multiple names-like how I just added Pembroke J. Herring, who had a few other names. Then there are those who might have a page but were never linked or something. Still I figured I get this done eventually. (Been on Wikipedia for years-just never felt like doing all this till now). Well the editors I've added so far are (not including the one above)-Ted J. Kent, Mark Warner (film editor), David Gamble (film editor), Monica Collingwood, Jay Friedkin and John Refoua (at least I think that is all the editors I've added)

I've also added quite a few makeup artists, costume designers, assistant directors, few sound people and a visual effects artist. Oh and a few cinematographers as well. So yep-anyone willing to help be great as well. (I could tell you the other names I've added sometime). Wgolf (talk) 20:13, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

A strange case where this could be the same person...[edit]

But has 2 IMDB listings. So I made a page for Robert MacDonald (filmmaker), there is a special effects nominee from the 1940's named R. A. MacDonald but I can't find any evidence if this is the same guy or not. Odd. Wgolf (talk) 02:13, 29 March 2014 (UTC) Not sure if I should just link them as the same or what now ha ha (I've added tons of new names as of late) Wgolf (talk) 02:52, 29 March 2014 (UTC) Well I did do that-I just added someone who was nominated for this film Captain Eddie that has no page...not sure if I want to add the film as it has quite a big cast ha ha (if you ever want you can lol) Wgolf (talk) 04:00, 29 March 2014 (UTC)

I've created an article but only linked the top 30 or so actors, as I often do when they have colossal cast lists. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 01:39, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Yeah the easiest one for me ever was this ill fated Oscar nominated film Mercy Island which had only 6 cast members. Wgolf (talk) 19:05, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Well here are some movies I've added as of late[edit]

Well these are the ones I've added among Oscar nominated films as of late, not including short films: Sand, This Woman is Mine, Hitchhike to Happiness and Storm Over Bengal.

Only categories other then short, doc and foreign that still have films to add are in the music ones and the long dead dance cat. I've added tons of new names also. (a few other films I added earlier this year like Broadway Hostess and Mercy Island. These are the categories that still have films never added: Academy Award for Best Original Score, Academy Award for Best Original Song and Academy Award for Best Dance Direction. Amazingly there are 3 70s films under song with no pages. (I think I've heard of Little Ark, I was born in the early 80s so it might of been on TV when I was young or that was Little Prince).

Wgolf (talk) 19:04, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Which in the case of Ice-Capades, it technically has a article as it is mentioned in the article for the actual event. Wgolf (talk) 19:12, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

(This even applies to infoboxes.)

Thanks, and my best wishes.

Regarding Unjustified Absence...[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for creating Unjustified Absence; your contribution is very much appreciated. However, I was wondering if you could add additional references to the page for verification, per our notability guidelines? Thank you, and thank you again for your contribution. I hope you keep sharing your knowledge with us!

Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). Hi, thanks for reverting me on Unjustified Absence. My apologies for that edit. I didn't realize that link was a source and will look more carefully next time.

Do you believe that additional citations need to be added? Or do you think the page is ok as is? If you believe the latter, no problem, and thanks again for reverting me. :) Keep up the good work. EmilyREditor (talk) 21:37, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, do you own those books on fascism or did it pick up in google books? Did you know that you can request any book you want through the grant system of wikimedia UK? Anything up to £250 a go. You could request any books on films and cinema that you want and use them to improve/start articles. I've currently got about 9 or 10 books through it, with half of them on Stanley Kubrick and his films. I have quite a task in coming months!♦ Dr. Blofeld 05:13, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

This applies to infoboxes, too.

Thanks, and my best wishes.

References[edit]

Hi Cornwallis, you don't need to split a single reference in two [4], to be fair it lacks sense, it could be useful if you need to cite different pages from the same book but in the current cases almost all these citations refer to a single page, are very trivial mentions, and all the coverage in these books consists in one or two lines.
