Request for edit summary[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Carlos María Cardinal de la Torre questions[edit]

Hi. I'm currently working on repairing links to disambiguation pages. In the Carlos María Cardinal de la Torre article that you are the main contributor to, it was unclear to me whether the word "evangelical" should link to evangelism or evangelicalism. Can you suggest which would be more appropriate?

Also, there is currently a suggestion that the page should be merged with Carlos Maria Cardinal de la Torre, which appears to be a more recent article about the same person. You may want to comment, and/or be bold and merge the two?

Thanks. Paddles TC 08:19, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Tyldesley[edit]

The unforgiveable thing about your creating Tyldesley, Greater Manchester was the fact that you did it using a copy&paste instead of a move command. I have now reverted the move and merged the edit histories. Given that the vast majority of links to Tyldesley refer to the place, I feel that the town article should be on the main title and the people should be banished to a dab page. I suggest you discuss on a talk page before attempting another move.

As a general point, please start to provide edit summaries. -- RHaworth 19:48, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Mazahua language[edit]

You have recently added information about Mazahua phonology to the article about the Mazahua language. I would like to know where you have your information from. I ask because it is in contradiction to other published material - such as the articles by Hazel Spotts and Doris Bartholomew. PArticularly they agree with the number of phonemes - since they count h and ʔ as separate phonemes and the phonemes that you describe as glottalized and aspirated as consonant clusters. However I know that a few weeks ago a new Authoritative book about Mazahua phonology by Michael Herbert Knapp Ring was published and I wonder if your information comes from that book which I haven't had a chance to see my self? Otherwise I think it would be in order to present Mazahua phonology in a more balanced manner taking into account the different interpretations.·Maunus· ·ƛ· 20:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

  • The list of phonemes comes from Ian Maddieson's book Patterns of Sounds. It is footnoted in the text but when I was writing I was never sure where to put the footnote. luokehao
Since Maddieson has not himself done any work on Mazahua I would be interested in knowing which source he uses for his Mazahua data. could you put a reference to his references here at the talk page, just for my curiosity? ·Maunus· ·ƛ· 15:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Improper close of merger proposal[edit]

At Talk:De facto, I have queried your close of the merger proposal. You merged the articles although most of the editors responding opposed the proposed merger. I believe that De jure should be restored as a separate article. JamesMLane t c 15:24, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Jack Martin (cricketer)[edit]

Hello. Thanks for adding some interesting information to Martin's article. However, we're going to need some references, as there are several things you added which would be considered original research without those. Here's one example:

It has to be said that Martin was the fastest bowler playing county cricket at the time

Without a specific citation, that simply looks like your own opinion, which of course would not be acceptable for Wikipedia. If you can find a good quote from a reliable source saying that he was the fastest, then of course that's fine. But we really do need the sources. Thanks. Proposed deletion of The Lost Ninja[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article The Lost Ninja, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No evidence suggesting that this book has any notability of any kind

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Aluminum phosphate[edit]

Would you 'please' provide references in regards to your information stating that destructive decomposition of aluminum phosphate yields phosphorus pentoxide and aluminum oxide? I can't find a reference for this information and if it has one then it is useful...however otherwise I can't prove it and all information on wiki articles 'need' references so it will end up getting erased.

Thank you, Qbmaster (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC).

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Redaktor Wikipedia 600px.png

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 03:35, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Fact checking on Bristol 405 Overdrive[edit]

In regards to the Bristol_405 article that you initiated in 2006, the Bristol Owners Club Forum has begun a debate as to whether the 405 early models did or did not come with overdrive. The only reference in support of early 405's coming without OD is the Wikipedia article, and it appears the "fact" was written by you in the original posting. It may be that 405's were shipped to Australia by the factory without OD, in which case your fact would be correct, or it may be that 405's now lacking ODs had them stripped by subsequent owners to provide parts for more fashionable Bristol powered cars like the Arnolt Bristol or the 404.

May I ask where you collected the information so we can get the record set straight?

PS: Your documentation is greatly appreciated. Keep up the hard work!

Climate table edits[edit]

Partial reversion of change(s) at Yukon[edit]

Hi Luokehao; I reverted part of your changes, (just the addition, not your deletion) of information here.  Your deletion is of unsourced material so I fully agree.  Unfortunately, the information added is equally unsourced.  What I reverted to is also unsourced but seems short & general enough to qualify as common knowledge.
Additionally, I think it was a little too detailed for the lede section, but (if WP:V) would be a good addition to the article.  If you've got any WP:RS reference available (I find the Citation generator to be helpful), it might make sense to add it as a new "=== Climate ===" subsection under the "== Geography and ecology ==" section (IMO).  Just wanted to explain why.  Cheers & have fun! — Who R you? Talk 21:33, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Weatherboxes on Funchal and Madeira articles[edit]

Luokehao, I think you should reformulate your weatherboxes. By including the Reflist citation, you have forced the citations to completely appear underneath your weatherbox, rather then at the end along with all other references and citations. Consequently, I am reverting the Funchal and Madeira edits you made, until they have been resolved. Sorry. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 01:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Zard-kuh Glaciers[edit]

Hi. I appreciate your contributions on Iranian related articles such as Zard-Kuh. However, about this edit, I read the reference mentioned by you and didn't find any sentence supporting the claim that the glaciers of Zard-Kuh are the only glaciers in the subtropics outside the Himalayas and Andes. Please explain the matter. Regards.--M samadi (talk) 10:02, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Bird nest[edit]

Hi Luokehao: I just wanted to let you know that I've reverted your edit to bird nest, because the reference you provided says that gull and tern chicks do leave their scrape nests! They do stay close however, so perhaps we can figure out some way to say they leave the nest but don't go far. Most raptors don't build a scrape nest, but those that do definitely do stay in the nest for a while, so you could change it from "most" to "all but scrape-nesting raptors" or something like that. Please feel free to make those changes!  :) MeegsC | Talk 03:01, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Hailar District et al.[edit]

You are probably aware that there generally are two methods to calculate the 24-hour average temperature: 1) Taking the arithmetic mean of the max and min (as done in the US and Canada). 2) Calculating an "integrated" sum, i.e. the average of each hourly temperature (as in East Asia). Even under the second method, Hailar, Inner Mongolia still falls under Dwb. That it was temporarily at subarctic is the doing of an IP that even claimed Harbin, which averages 23.0 °C in July, is subarctic! GotR Talk 08:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

California climate[edit]

Greetings! I see from your user page that you're from Melbourne! A lovely place but far too far away from Northwestern California to understand the 1,000 microclimates of the area. While a page such as Humboldt County, California might benefit from sweeping generalizations about climate, each individual town in the region has particular climate features which are wiped out by the addition of climatology language which may be 100% textbook correct on a macroscale, but not correct on the microscale. As many regional editors have contributed to the local pages over the years, a good description of the regional microclimates have found their way into the project. I reverted your edits because - for one example - Ukiah cannot be compared to Eureka for weather. The two towns are 2 hours and 44 minutes away from each other by car at about 50 mph - about the same time to drive from Canberra to Sydney which of course are incomparable, too. Eureka and Ukiah are separated by several mountain ranges (which are about 80% as tall as Mount Kosciuszko) and their climate is in no way similar or comparable due not only to the great distance between them, but the variability of climate on the different sides of the mountains. Likewise other edits you made to towns in the region I reverted. I was unable to verify all the temperature information that you changed. Precipitation and snowfall information was in some towns completely wiped out or the values changed to the point where they just didn't contain the sense that they had contained before. I agree that some of your tables were prettier, but with the wrong temperatures, snowfall or precipitation, they had to go. Changing half of the converts from cm to mm also left some parts of the pages with half centimeters and half millimeters - both in the climate section! With so much confusion and so many data points massively changed the only safe course was to revert. Please take some time to be sure temperature, precipitation and snowfall data is correct before changing more pages up here. And please don't make sweeping generalizations about local microclimates based on some textbook definition from thousands of miles away. If you need help understanding the area before making more changes, please don't hesitate to ask. I'd be delighted to have "better" climate information for the towns, but it really has to be accurate. Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:43, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Colour of weatherboxes[edit]

I have noticed that you are working hard with editing and fixing the climate data in many articles and I want to thank you for doing this. The climate section is one of the most under edited parts. However, there is a discussion going on about the colours used for the weatherboxes because a consensus is needed in order to determine which colours should be used in the weatherboxes. This is considering the fact that a large number of weatherboxes have non-standard colours (eg. green or pastel) and more outside opinion is required to reach a consensus and that some of these edits may be controverisal to other editors. Any comments would be welcome.

Hi. Ages back, you contributed some quite substantial expansions to articles on Lancashire cricketers such as Harry Dean and Willis Cuttell. Your excellent words have pretty much stood the test of time in these articles... but they rather lack citations. You obviously had some very good sources when you did the work, and I wondered if you still had access to those sources, and if you might care to return and bring them up to scratch. Climate Change and the WAFL[edit]

Hi there. First of all, thank you very much for doing the hard yards in creating the season articles, I can see how much work you've put in there. However, the repeated linking of weather and scoring is synthesis or original research. The increase in the mid 70s may be due to training methods, the centre square or just a change in coaching tactics. To link it to climate change is tenuous. If you can find a reliable reference that makes that link (not just two separate refs that refer to dry years and another that mentions high scoring), we can't include it. Thanks again for all your contributions. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 13:31, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

1870 English cricket season[edit]

You added this phrase to this article : " though W.G. Grace with his medical experience later wondered why many more players were not killed outright.[3]" referring WG Grace's memorial biography.

The actual extract is : "(George) Freeman thus spoke of it to me in 1894: 'Tom Emmett and I have often said it was a marvel the doctor was not either maimed or unnerved for the rest of his days or killed outright. "

It was spoken by Freeman about a Grace innings, not by Grace himself. Tintin 13:47, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
