Greater Manchester[edit]

Hi! I've noticed your excellent work you have been putting in on Wikipedia, particularly for those articles related to the Greater Manchester area.

I also put in simillar kind of work for this area and am most pleased with your contributions. You may wish to add (via copy and paste) the following to your user page (found at User:Mapmark)...

{{User Greater Manchester}}

It enables other users from this area to share knowledge and form a network specifically for the Greater Manchester area.

Hope that helps, keep up the good work. Jhamez84 15:02, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Jhamez[edit]

Thats very kind of you notice my contribs and to send me a message. I dont seem to have a proper user page yet but when I get round to building one I will be proud to add the paste you suggest on Greater Manchester. I mostly use wikipedia late at night after I've done my other work and like many people get caught up in pages I'm interested in and happen to have a bit of knowledge about. I just hope that my contribs are useful and I try and stick to the guidelines but I dont really consider myself an expert so I'm happy to be re-edited! Very pleasing to see a lot of what I've put up has stayed there so I guess I must be doing something right! Also when I get a proper user page I can probably send a neater message back to you Jhamez, as opposed to pasting here where I'm not sure you will ever see it! But once again many thanks for your encouragment and all the best with you posts too.  :-) Mark —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mapmark (talkcontribs) 13:17, 7 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Not a problem! Indeed it is most encouraging seeing a new(ish) user contributing with prudence, expertise, and a level head (which is in my experience a rarity!).
Editing level and sophistication will improve with time (indeed I am still by no means an expert, but perhaps a novice), via looking at examples of Wikipedia's best work, and through consulting users for advice and input.
Given your contributions, I want to highlight some important and established practices found on Wikipedia, and answer some of your questions...
You can access your own user page by clicking here - it's yours to edit as and when you please - but does like all pages, ultimately belong to Wikipedia and is best not used to provoke other users.
In talk/discussion pages, don't forget to sign your comments. You do this by typing "~~~~" (4 x ~). It just lets users know who wrote what and when, and is considered good manners.
Another point for ensuring that other users know what and how you are editting, when contributing to an article, there is a small field labeled "Summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
Edit summary text box
It is highly recommended that users fill in the edit summary field with a breif statement of how and what they are contributing, as it makes it easier for you and your fellow contributors to understand what has changed, and is helpful when going through the history of the page.
Finally, and somewhat sadly, vandalism is rife on Wikipedia, and should you take an interest in Greater Manchester and other divisions of England's lands like myself, there is a policy on how they should be treated. I've added a summery of a major policy of Wikipedia below for ease, outlining a ruling on how modern geography should be presented (naturally I am in agreement with this).
Many thanks for the contact Mapmark. I hope a few of those points will aid you in your forthcoming additions on Wikipedia, and steer you away from some of the mistakes I made initially. If ever you would like advise or an answer to how to perform more technical edits, do please get in touch! Regards, Jhamez84 23:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Metromapunderwear.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Metromapunderwear.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thank you for uploading Image:Duefox.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Beijing Subway Plan[edit]

Hi,

No, I'm not affiliated with either the Olympics or the Beijing Subway; I'm just an enthusiast. I've uploaded an updated version of the map without the watermark. As for permission, the image is under the GFDL license, essentially meaning that you can use it for anything as long as you also provide, along with the distribution, the source of the image and the GFDL license in some form. The full text is here:

The reason I nominated the image for deletion is that it is not currently used in any articles. Wikipedia does not host orphan images. Can you add the image to an appropriate article? -Thanks Nv8200p talk 00:12, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also deleted Image:Metrolink 3a In-Car Diagram V4 new.jpg. a few days ago because somehow the image got corrupted. Maybe you are thinking about this image instead? If so, can you re-upload because something happened to the image and it would not display properly. -Regards, Nv8200p talk 00:18, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK I can see what's happened now and after posting to you I understood what "orphaned" meant! Yep the image that got corrupted I will find again (cant right now as not on the correct machine) and re jupload. The one you deleted was indeed "orphaned" coz i'd found a better version (the one that got ssomehow got corrupted afterwards!) SO: thanks so much for pointing that all out and hope to have the new image back up in a day or two. Cheers, Mark talk 01:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Edmond Huet[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Edmond Huet. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Edmond Huet. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:20, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Susie Pearl, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages English, Madonna and Success (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

The article Susie Pearl has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence that this person meets the notability criteria; the sole independent reference is a passing mention.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Files missing description details[edit]

Dear uploader: The media files you uploaded as:

are missing a description and/or other details on their image description pages. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the images, and they will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the images may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Jeremy Tankard[edit]

Hello, thanks for your edits to the Jeremy Tankard article. I see you and another account and IP have made a lot of changes, most of which are really good improvements.

However, I see that some details, like date and place of birth, are unsourced and I'm guessing are from personal knowledge - would I be right in thinking that you know Mr. Tankard? Unless there's a published source for this information (e.g. on Mr. Tankard's website or an interview), it might be best to remove it, since it's a problem if we have information on living people that can't be verified.

Let me know what you think. Blythwood (talk) 07:58, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes indeed I did and thanks for your notes and appreciation Blythwood. Not helped with a living person's article for a while so hadn't realised that such verifications were needed and for sure I will attempt to find some. Wee bit busy for next week so if by chance you spot one in those places and can add before me do please go ahead. And thanks again for having started the article. (I do know him professionally yes). :-)

Survey Invite[edit]

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they effect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 15:27, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
