Thanks, Zach, my review came a little quickly as my article remains unfinished. I'm working on learning the footnotes and adding them and am adding some references and smoothing out incomplete copy before I resubmit. Thanks for the tip about the footnotes and your review. Articles for Creation[edit]

I just thought that I would point out to you that it is not necessary for you to use Wikipedia:Articles for creation. This is not a requirement, it is perfectly acceptable to create articles directly yourself. If you want to carry on using AfC, that's fine, but it seems to me that you have enough experience here to know already what is required and all AfC is doing is slowing you down. Victoria Blyth Hill[edit]

Hi Marilyn. I did indeed move the article from Wikipedia:Victoria Blyth Hill to Victoria Blyth Hill. The latter is the right place for the article as it's an encyclopedia article - it should be kept in the "article space". Wikipedia has a lot of different "spaces", Article: for actual wikipedia articles, User: for user information (we're currently in the User Talk: space), File: for files and so on. Wikipedia: space is for wikipedia polices and other meta discussion, so having an article there is not appropriate. (You can read more about this at Wikipedia:Namespace)

Google does currently have the article in the wrong place, but don't worry about that. Google regularly updates it's cache, and will fix that automatically within the next few days. Generally we don't put redirects across namespaces, so I removed it. Once Google updates, there will be no need for it at all, but Google might not update if it's there. File permission problem with File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 03:31, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Eeekster (talk) 03:31, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Richard Newton, artist.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Eeekster (talk) 03:33, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Since I do not know how to correct this error, can I reload the pic after deletion with all the proper info? Newbie here...Thanks

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Patricia Childress.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Patricia Childress.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:42, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

New articles[edit]

Hi Marilyn, thanks for all the great articles you are creating. I have noticed that some of the formatting needs some tweaking. References are added as inline citations (after the text added) rather than at the end of the article. The {{Reflist}} template will then compile the list for you at the base of the article. Also, a few headings can be useful to break up the text and make it easy to read. Articles are not resumes, so a list of positions held are not required. Please do add references for all the info that you add. These pages might give a sense of the general format: Clara Elsene Peck, Blanche Lazzell, Jack Coggins. I hope that helps. Best wishes and happy editing. Span (talk) 23:22, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Will take your fine suggestions to heart and thanks for the samples! Marilyn Nix (talk) 23:45, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
If you need any help, do drop me a line. Span (talk) 23:50, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
I did a bit of clean up on the formatting of Anna Homler and hid the listing currently given as 'references' but not attributed as inline citations. I imagine you would know which text the sources apply to. Some seem like they maybe 'further reading'. I'll leave it with you, if I may. Best wishes Span (talk) 23:58, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your message. There's been no goofing, you've been adding valuable reseach all over the place. All good stuff. I have unidden the text under the heading 'sources'. I hope it can be added as inline citations. To hide text from the readers' view you add mark up <!--- yadda yadda --->. Any questions, just drop me a line. Thank you for all your work. Best wishes Span (talk) 11:05, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Anna Homler, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ethan James (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I was surprised to see this as I had just started and figured with so many backlogged I could finish in time. Suddenly in less than 24 hours I am declined. Weird. How can I move this article to a place where I can work on it uninterrupted for now until I decide to submit, or not?

License tagging for File:Nancy Buchanan, Wolfwoman, 1977.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Nancy Buchanan, Wolfwoman, 1977.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Unforgetting L.A. project[edit]

Hi Marilyn, I was researching Carp and saw that you are an active Wikipedia editor. I wanted to invite you to hook up with our "Unforgetting L.A." project, which is focused on building a more accurate online history of art in Southern California. Info about our next meetup at MOCA on March 9 can be found here. If you can't join, I'd welcome suggestions for our worklist! -Stacey StaceyEOB (talk) 07:05, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Marilyn, I posted this reply but—still learning the Wikipedia ropes—wasn't sure if you'd see it on my Talk page, so reposting here. Yes, I will be there on the 9th, and 1970s is totally fine—we're basically building out this master list on our Wikipedia page and then I try to come up with a thematic focus for each meetup based on where we're having it. 1980s-present made sense for MOCA, but it's always pretty loose—people work on what they want to work on, and we help. Great to hear you're building a page for Nancy B.! She's been on the list for a while. If you might be able to point me towards and/or bring some good secondary sources on Carp, we could probably knock that out on the 9th and then you wouldn't be doing it yourself. You have been invited to a meetup and edit-a-thon at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 11 am to 6 pm! This event is in collaboration with MOCA and the arts collective East of Borneo and aims to improve coverage of LA art since the 1980s. (Even if contemporary art isn't your thing, you're welcome to join too!) Please RSVP here if you're interested.

I hope to see you there! StaceyEOB (talk) 00:04, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Since you RSVPed before this info was on the event page, I just wanted to give you a heads up that PBS NewsHour will likely be at the event filming. (I assume you can make arrangements if you don't want to be on camera -- just FYI.) See you Sunday! Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:01, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Your submission at AfC Nancy Buchanan was accepted[edit]

AFC-Logo.svg
Nancy Buchanan, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

Chris Troutman (talk) 06:25, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Did You Know?[edit]

Marilyn, you have until March 16th to submit Nancy Buchanan to the Did You Know (DYK) wikiproject. A "hook" (a cited fact from the article) can be featured on Wikipedia's Main Page. This program only applies to new articles, articles promoted to good article status, and articles expanded five-fold so you have to move quickly to nominate a hook from this article. Your draft article, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ron Linden[edit]

Hello Marilyn Nix. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Ron Linden".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ron Linden}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 04:01, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
