Happy New Year

Hey Tony - Happy New Year! I've spent the last four with my neighbors in my building, and I don't think I ever told you but it is 80% Puerto Rican. We're all very close. I thought you might enjoy the video I shot of them here in Loisaida as the ball dropped :-) Such good people! --David Shankbone 23:22, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi - something seems fishy here...

Please check THIS out. Something seems wrong. Thx, Mercy11 (talk) 02:32, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. There is a "Sophy" singer that's listed, and I know there exists a Puerto Rican singer by that name. However, the wikilink is pointing to some other article. Maybe you know the name of the article it should be pointing to. Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 04:04, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Decorative, hum? Though I disagree - with them that is, not you - how about if I instead created a gallery at the bottom of the list? Would that pass musterd??? Thanks for helping focus my energies/time!!! Also, check out [THIS] edit and tell me if you agree. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 18:03, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Worked on Ferre, the one you pointed out and others. however, I'm sitting on the fence on kajak and lavoe. What do you think - if in doubt include them too? Mercy11 (talk) 00:33, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

You will like this one!

Ha! I'm telling you , there is of late a frenzy to delete photos and graphics used in PR project related articles. In this case the article that uses the image even passed musterd as GA years ago!!! Check it out HERE Mercy11 (talk) 00:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Ha! I am telling you !!! Mercy11 (talk) 21:13, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Again? Man, I'm done uploading images here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 07:13, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

HA! and check out these 2 -- Sila and Rosello, and probably several more to include ALL governors. I thought there was a duly executed OTRS (or whatever that's called) for all of these. I don't know how to work with those OTRS but believe Caribbean and you do. Help!!! Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 20:46, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

  • The problem with the people at commons is that they have the damn habit of nominating images for deletion without having the common courtesey and sense of notifing the original uploader and per se, as in these cases, the Puerto Rican community. Therefore, the community is denied the right to voice their own opinon and are denied the oppurtunity to fix whatever needs fixin in the image in order to rescue them from deletion. Something must be done. That is way I do not wish to have any of my images nor those that I upload, placed in commons. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:55, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Thanks. That being the case I will not upload anything else to Commons anymore and will upload to the English site only instead. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 02:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
    • Actually, to avoid that, keep the images in your watchlists. There are users that enjoy sticking Template:Copy to Wikimedia Commons to these OTRS images, and they are often uploaded there without adding a link to the ticket. It may be better to simply remove the templates once they are placed, before they are deleted and moved to Commons. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:35, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
      • OK, thanks for the tips! Currently I have to log into English Wikipedia and separately into Commons to see what is going on there with files that I upload. Mercy11 (talk) 00:51, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

David Zayas

Hi Marine. I was reviewing pages that might remain indefinitely fully protected where that protection might not be necessary or where it's inadvertant. This edit seems to suggest that you intended to unprotect the page as there's consensus about the cause of an edit-war as the result of a discussion on a talk page. I wasn't sure if you're aware that the page was still indefinitely fully protected, so I thought I'd bring it up here. Just an FYI. Hope all is well!--GnoworTC 16:58, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

As it looks like you've been away from WP for a day or so, I'm going to move this to WP:RFPP, as I believe the edit cited above makes this fairly uncontroversial. I apologize in advance if that's incorrect.--GnoworTC 16:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Request admin move

Hey Tony, you've offered to make admin-only moves over redirects before, so I want to capitalize on that. I'd like you to move Department of the Air Force to United States Department of the Air Force to reflect its full name (and disambig with other nations, per the precedence of other US executive department articles); the latter currently redirects to United States Air Force. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 21:14, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

OK, I've put a notice up there, but I don't expect it to be controversial, so please check pack in a week. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 20:23, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Seems someone thoughtlessly redirected it. I've restored it. Please go ahead and move it. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 21:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 19:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Got another for you. A good-faith move of HMH-772 to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 772 broke a naming convention for aircraft squadrons (see Category:United States Marine Corps helicopter squadrons). Rightly or wrongly, the convention exists, and we should either keep them all abbreviated or move them all, but not simply one. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 23:07, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Well, I took care of it now. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 17:10, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

List of Puerto Ricans

Thsnks, I've tried getting a consensus to rename all the "List of People" articles before, but failed. If we do change this, what about the List of German Americans and other List of People articles. They all suffer from the same problem. Feedback 12:08, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Tony

I hope everything is well. You have made this place something that all Puerto Ricans can be proud of. Como alguien dijo hace muchos años atras, "El puertorriqueño no tiene nada que envidiarle a nadie" refieriendose a las carreteras. OK, I just wanted to share THIS pic with you. I noticed there is no pic of this Spanish-times governor in List of Governors of Puerto Rico. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 23:59, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Puerto Rican nationalism research

Hi Tony, hope all is well. I'm doing some research for a college paper on Puerto Rico between 1897 and 1935. I was wondering if you could recommend some English language sources I could read for information on some of the fascinating articles like Antonio Mattei Lluberas and Intentona de Yauco. Thanks for your help. Andrevan@ 12:15, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

User:Marine 69-71/Tony Santiago, a page you substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Marine 69-71/Tony Santiago and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Marine 69-71/Tony Santiago during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Damiens.rf 15:11, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Tony. In the process of backing up your Wiki-bio, you've lost the article's history, what's unfair with all involved contributors (it's a copyright infringement, actually). And in any case, don't you believe it's inappropriate to keep a copy of a deleted article hosted on Wikipedia? It may give some readers a wrong impression. Thanks! --Damiens.rf 15:22, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

By adding this greeting, I am making my 100,000th edit in WP. I can only honor one editor in that fashion, so you know how greatly I appreciate all your hard work, kind words and the skills you have built up. You haven't sent many requests for proofreading lately, so I had to check your user contributions to see if you're still kicking. I interpret the lack of requests as a sign of an editor whose quality stands on its own, but I'm here if you ever need support. Keep in touch, and happy editing! Just a heads up

Hi, Tony. I'm so sorry that you are unwell. :( I hope you'll have a rapid and complete recovery. I really don't want to be the bearer of bad news at this time in particular, but per our attorney there is a bit of a problem with the release behind Template:PD-PRGov-IPC. I'll make a note at the template's talk page and see if I can get some assistance from the folks at WP:MCQ. I really don't want to burden you, and struggled with whether to say anything at all once I saw your notice, but not saying anything would seem unbearably rude. Sorry! My best wishes are with you. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:21, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, Tony. I'm not dropping the template on your page, but just wanted to let you know that File:Juano Hernandez.jpg is at PuF, here. Hopefully, we'll be able to determine enough about the origin of the picture to retain it, but I'm happy to say that an image of the gentleman that can be proven to be free has been located by User:ScottyBerg, so the articles will not lack for pictures. :) Moonriddengirl (talk) 10:51, 15 April 2011 (UTC)
  • It's Official! The lawyers are taking project control. Wikipedia probably should no longer be called a project. Maybe just The Foundation, in capital letters, especially since a single person (the Foundation Attorney) can decide matters at his/her convenience. What happened to Community Consensus? Is there a Consensus of Attorneys? IMHO, the attorneys should Defend the Consensus, not change it. This is why I no longer actively contribute to The Foundation. It has grown from a project to a bureaucracy. QuAzGaA 17:56, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Tomorrow, I will be undergoing a double bypass surgery and I am currently hospitalized, therefore I will not be able to attend to Wikipedia matters for the time being. Dear Tony: I hope everything turns out alright at what has now become an almost routine procedure. After the surgery, take a break and recover your strength for many more years of Wikipedia contributions. You have changed the world of many, including myself! Pr4ever (talk) 10:22, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Tony, best of luck with your recovery. I originally came to this take page to discuss the details of one of your edits with you but it can definitely wait. When you return to editing and settle back in, feel free to contact me (it related to this). But nothing urgent at all, definitely not urgent enough to interject itself into your recovery, so definitely no rush. Again, best wishes, Daniel (talk) 09:00, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Tony, I know the best thing I could do for you is help carry on your excellent work here while you recover and will see after articles you usually contributed to. I wish you a speedy recovery, though: no one could fill your shoes as good as yourself! Best wishes, Mercy11 (talk) 02:56, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Alcazar de Colon

You have upload an image to commons called File:Alcazar de Colon2.jpg and I think that might be helpful to know wich year was the picture taken. Thanks Oscar 15:59, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

When you say "around" means you really do not know, right. Oscar 19:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
  • When I say "around", I mean that I do "not" nor did I at the time keep a travel log on my travels. My eldest son was about ten when we visited the Dominican Republic which would have been "around" 1982. That is all I have to say on the picture which I took and which I am sharing with others in Wikipedia. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:37, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Ambiguous copyright status

Hi, Marine. This image has ambiguous copyright information. Is says it's in the public domain but also that you are the copyright holder. Which one is true? --Damiens.rf 23:54, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Very true, my mistake. Copyright holder US Army, will fix. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:54, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Something one of the participants in the dsicussion about this image got me looking in a different area and it turns out the image you uploaded is cropped from one which was published at least in 1904, so it is correctly tagged. If you were interested in copies of the full image, I've found them at http://books.google.com/books?id=_n5DAAAAYAAJ&pg=PP11#v=onepage&q&f=false and http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/1898/diego.html and there are plenty of other versions of varying quality and crops around the internet, but there's no problem retaining the one you have now if you like it. Thought you'd like to know. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:02, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

My friend, hope you'll have a grrrreat weekend. Ah, and don't worry about "those editors": you are at a higher level than they. They've got a mental case. It's exhibited by folks who are such losers that the only way they know to improve their misery relative to others is to try to lower the status, dignity, peace or equilibrium of those they come in contact with. Unfortunately Wikipedia is like a public highway: you drive alonside mostly descent, respectaful and respectable people, but also alonside some morons, jerks, and the plain insane. Just -- as you have so brilliantly done repeatedly before -- don't lower yourself to their level and you will always be the winner. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 00:11, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I really hope you feel better real soon. Nothing is worse than being sick in the spring for a nice guy like you.

May you always have work for your hands to do.

May your pockets hold always a coin or two.

May the hand of a friend always be near you.

And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

Hello

Do you know anything about Leoncio Rivera or Pedro Segundo? I understand they participated in the Grito de Lares and suferred prison time at the Antiguo Cuartel Militar Español de Ponce which is now a school. The place was also home to Roman Baldorioty de Castro for some time starting in October 1887 due to his liberal ideas.

It's a goldmine: Remember Julio Pinto Gandia (who, with Gilberto Concepcion de Gracia, took the case of PR before the UN, claiming that "Puerto Ricans should have the right to a consultation before being sent to any war")? The fellow (Pinto) had spent time in the same prison as a result of the 1937 Ponce Massacre together with Casimiro Berenguer and others.

Was wondering if you knew anything about these first 2 fellows. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 19:32, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Thank u for ur response. Speaking of women, Maria de las Mercedes Barbudo is recognized as the Primera Mujer Independentista Puertorriqueña. I looked for a wiki article on her but found none. There isn't very much info on her, and this will really a research project, especially since she lived in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 01:01, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Jaja on Barbudo - I would had written it, but you will probably beat me to it. I am sure you will do a better job than me anyway. Will try to get her pic if you can't find one. As for the language, don't worry any offendees - they are just jealous you and I and the others are bilingual, and they are not, for they are only just "Americans". (As the joke goes, if you speak 3 languages you are trilingual, 2 languages and you are builingual, one lnaguage and you are American -- hee hee)... Tag team revert-and-protect

Hi, Marine. It was wrong for you and your son to tag team and protect and article right after reverting it to your preferred version.

Please undo that ASAP and, if you really found it necessary, ask for someone else to protect it. --damiens.rf 11:41, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

You seem to have misunderstood my intentions, of which I do not blame you. There was not nor there is any "tag team" attempt here. What happened was that he (my son) messed up in his "protection" attempt and what I tried to do is fix it right, that is all. Tony the Marine (talk) 2:45 pm, Today (UTC−3)
Whatever. But please, unlock it already. --damiens.rf 17:49, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't really get it. What were the "constant removal of content" you mentioned when you reprotected it on June 27--damiens.rf 17:52, 27 June 2011 (UTC)?
Yes, can you please explain this use of your tools? Was it vandalism? I see no edit warring. You protected a page for three months in which you and your sons are regular editors, evidently because somebody removed a photo from a photo array in the infobox. Am I missing something? ScottyBerg (talk) 18:26, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • There was vandalism involved when you remove an entire section. Talking about "Tag teamimng" it seems to me that you and Damiens pop up together quite often when it referrers to me. Why is that? Can you explain? Tony the Marine (talk) 18:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • Can you please provide diffs at to the "vandalism," as I am not seeing it. It looks to me like a content dispute. To answer your question, I have had your page watchlisted since posting this question asking whether you would refrain from editing articles in which you are mentioned. You never responded to that question and removed it. ScottyBerg (talk) 18:47, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • I checked what you call "vandalism." Another user removed content to the talk page. I have no idea whether he or you were right or wrong, but this is a content dispute, not driveby vandalism. Besides, that happened on June 3! I am flabbergasted that you would impose a three-month page protection on an article in which you are involved in a circumstance like that. I agree that you should unprotect the page, and if there are future problems you should not use your tools in this manner, but ask for help from an uninvolved administrator. ScottyBerg (talk) 18:53, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Come on, I don't want you to be flabbergasted. I will unprotect that article as requested, but let me make myself clear, the removal of content is vandalism and I am not going to stand for it. It was ridiculous for the editor to post the whole section in a talk page. The talk page, as you should know, is for the discussion of improvements to an article not of the posting of an entire section with the intention of making a ridiculous claim. Thank you for your advice, but I know how and when to use the so-called tools and will use them whenever there is vandalism involved. I'm trying to stay clear of some issues here since my heart surgery, but people continue to drag me in. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:07, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • The editor removed a list that was smack in the middle of a non-list article. People remove sections all the time, and in this case, after reviewing this edit, I think that this was a good-faith edit. Not saying he was right, but it was definitely not vandalism. That's just not so. ScottyBerg (talk) 20:50, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Marine, that edit was clearly not Vandalism. It was a content dispute. The user wondered why an article about Irish immigration to Puerto Rico would contain a list of Puerto Ricans of Irish descent. This is a valid concern that one may reasonably agree with or not.
The editor also removed the name of Victoria Justice from the infobox, what's what a completely valid edit to do since this girls has nothing to do with Irish Immigration to PR. She's born in Florida and has never lived in PR. You reverted that as vandalism!
The user event started a discussion on the talk page about the edit, but you guys preferred to revert it back to your preferred version and protect the article, what's a completely unacceptable use of the tools.
Try to be more collaborative next time. Remember you don't own the articles you create.
This is a last call. Unprotect the article. --damiens.rf 19:32, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • As I stated I will unprotect the article, but let me tell you, I am perfectly aware that we go not own the articles which we create. You are wrong in stating that it was a content dispute, that what the talk page is for, removing of content without a proper discussion, just because we feel like it, is vandalism. I think that being in Wikipedia as long as I have been I am quite aware of that. But, I will tell you this, I will use my tools to revert vandalism from any article regardless of who wrote it. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:37, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
(ec)Tony, I think that you know perfectly well that the removal of content is not necessarily vandalism, and I am even more flabbergasted that you are continuing to push this point when you are clearly wrong. You had a content dispute with one other editor (Varlaam), an established editor, not a "vandal." If he is a vandal, why didn't you block him? Why didn't you even warn him for his "vandalism"? ScottyBerg (talk) 20:38, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • I am not pushing the point as this page is my witness, I did not invite you or anybody to this conversation, so who is pushing what? I stand by what I believe is right. I already stated that I will unprotect the article. Let me tell you something in case you don't know it, I am not about to go around blocking every editor who unknowning or knowing commits an act of vandalism or just simply removes content. It wasn't the first time that the editor involved had been informed through the edit summary before. In case you didn't know, sometimes a protection of an article will serve as a cooling off period with the intention that the editors involved will reflect on their actions. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:02, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Next time you guys use protection as a "cooling off period", do not revert to your preferred version before.
And no, that was not vandalism. You should had a better judgment to deserve these tools. --damiens.rf 21:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • Fine! Let's end this conversation. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:54, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Not just yet. Are you going to use your tools in this article in the future? I ask because, in reviewing that article, I find that the edit removing Victoria Justice's photo was not only not vandalism but was justified. You need to step away from that article, Tony, and perhaps also stop using your tools, period. ScottyBerg (talk) 22:07, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • The issue was not so much the removal of the image of Victoria Justice, who is of both Puerto Rican and Irish descent. As stated many, many times before, the issue was the removal of an entire section from the article. I will use my tools when merited and justified. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:16, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
      • Varlaan's removal of Victoria Justice's photo was reverted by you[1], and that was followed by your son AntonioMartin and then you fully protecting the article for three months, on the specious grounds of "content removal." She is of Puerto Rican and Irish descent, but nothing in the article about her connects her to "Irish immigration to Puerto Rico." Thus removal of the photo was correct. The reason I'm pursuing this is that the following happened in this article: 1)The photo was properly removed by Varlaan. 2)You reverted it. 3)AntonioMartin and then you, both involved editors, improperly issued a full protection of the article for a period of three months, contrary to policy (WP:PROTECT). That's why I asked if you are going to continue to use your tools in this article. If your answer is "yes," then I don't see this as being resolved, since you insist that you were right when you clearly were not. ScottyBerg (talk) 22:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
  • I have never admitted to being 100% "right", I believe that I was right, but that doesn't mean that I was was. I'm not perfect, are you? I can make a mistake, but I believe that I was right. Now, you can not pretend that I am not going to use use my tools on any article that I have created if I come across a vandal. I will use my tools when I believe that the situation merits it and when I believe there is a justification for it. Look, for some reason to unknown me, you seem to hate me, you have been on my case for a long time, therefore I am not interested in conversing anymore with you. Tony the Marine (talk) 23:10, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • Are you serious? You're a Wikipedia administrator, and I'm asking you not to abuse your tools. This is really bizarre. You don't seem to have the slightest idea how serious it is to use your tools in a content dispute in which you are personally involved. Your repeatedly calling it "vandalism" when it clearly was not, combined with this bizarre "you hate me" rhetoric, is beginning to erode my belief that you are acting in good faith. ScottyBerg (talk) 23:32, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • FYI, just to be sure that we are on the same page, here is how policy defines vandalism: "Vandalism is any addition, removal, or change of content in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. Examples of typical vandalism are adding irrelevant obscenities and crude humor to a page, illegitimately blanking pages, and inserting patent nonsense into a page. . . Even if misguided, willfully against consensus, or disruptive, any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia is not vandalism." That couldn't be clearer. • Marine, what was the point of uploading an image that has just been nominated for deletion on commons? Can we trust what you post as the image's source? --damiens.rf 19:46, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
    • The point is this: While it is true that the first image will most likely be deleted because it come from a "Blog" regardless of the fact that the blog is a blog owned by the school named after the subject. The new upload comes from the "Colecciones Puertorriqueñas"; by: Cesáreo Rosa Nieves y Esther M. Melón: Biografías; Ediciones México, 1985 in which it is stated that the image is c.1800. that is the point. Tony the Marine (talk) 21:05, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Unblock request on my page

If the IP user is indeed Nelson Antonio Denis, then the answer is, "No," because his only activities on this project appear to have been to violate WP:BLP, WP:SOCK, and WP:COI, in an effort to harass Adam Clayton Powell IV online. Wikipedia does not countenance such crimes, and for that reason, the indef block was reasonable and necessary. I met the former member of the assembly once, but have no other relationship with any one of the five Adam Clayton Powells. A few of the students at my college had interned for him. • Thank you for your message. I believe that you being the "Blocking" administrator, that it is your call. I'm sure that you both can continue a civil conversation on the topic as you have up until now and come to an understanding. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:18, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
