CH-124 Sea King

Thanks for the info on the Bear trap system you added to the H-3 Sea King page. I just wanted to let you know that since the Canadian material was getting longer than the history on the rest of the Sea King, I have split the material off the create the CH-124 Sea King page. Coeliac disease

Your edits to coeliac disease actually led to an almost complete duplication in the lists of symptoms. The first few lines of the "symptoms" section are not intended to list the symptoms; rather, they explain that these symptoms can be grouped into three. Your changes to Mitochondrial Eve

Thanks for trying to help enhance Mitochondrial Eve. But I removed your addition to that paragraph. As I explained in my revert edit, I feel that what you have added is already summarized in the paragraph. The new citation you tried to add was already properly cited with correct format, in fact in the same paragraph. Yes, he needs an article. But you have to write one in your own words. When you do, the correct title will be "Vladimir Dmitrievich Dudintsev" according to our Manual of Style. Franco-Prussian War

Hello, although it is appreciated, I have reverted your small edit on this article. It violates Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and Wikipedia:Verifiability. -Is there any reason why U guys don't have the courtesy to write something like "please provide citations or your work will be reverted" rather than just erasing someone's work? In this case, I wasn't submitting a POV but only correcting the entry to conform with other Wiki entries on the subject, so I guess U would revert it anyways since my source was Wiki itself, rather than a "published and reliable source". Isn't there something about common sense in the rules you guys follow so assiduously? In this case, common sense would say that when Wiki articles differ, something should be done.

Markus reply to the nameless IP who deleted my work:

1) Self-published or questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, especially in articles about themselves, without the requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as:

the material is not unduly self-serving; it does not involve claims about third parties; it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the subject; there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; the article is not based primarily on such sources

In this case, I personally would have written something very similar to the quote because it's common knowledge among psychonauts but that's not a source.

2) Why delete ALL my work, including the external link I added, if you're not "one of the Wiki members who appears to enjoy deleting other peoples' work rather than adding new information to the world's knowledge"?

1) Identifying something as "essential reading" is nothing but self promotional.

2) The external link appears to be violation of WP:ELNEVER there is no indication Erowid has any right to display this copyright work, in fact, the bottom of the page plainly states the content belongs to the copyright holder.

How to write articles that won't be deleted

If you're going to write an article about anyone or anything that is not you or something you are connected to, here are the steps you should follow:

1) Choose a topic whose notability is attested by discussions of it in several reliable independent sources.

2) Gather as many professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources you can find. Google Books is a good resource for this. Also, while search engine resutls are tnot sources, they are where you can find sources. Just remember that they need to be professionally-published mainstream academic or journalistic sources.

3) Focus on just the ones that are not dependent upon or affiliated with the subject, but still specifically about the subject and providing in-depth coverage (not passing mentions). If you do not have at least three such sources, the subject is not yet notable and trying to write an article at this point will only fail.

4) Summarize those sources left after step 3, adding citations at the end of them. You'll want to do this in a program with little/no formatting, like Microsoft Notepad or Notepad++, and not in something like Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer. Make sure this summary is just bare statement of facts, phrased in a way that even someone who hates the subject can agree with.

5) Combine overlapping summaries (without arriving at new statements that no individual source supports) where possible, repeating citations as needed.

6) Paraphrase the whole thing just to be extra sure you've avoided any copyright violations or plagiarism.

7) Use the Article wizard to post this draft and wait for approval.

8) Expand the article using sources you put aside in step 3 (but make sure they don't make up more than half the sources for the article, and make sure that affiliated sources don't make up more than half of that).

Doing something besides those steps typically results in the article not being approved, or even in its deletion.

If you are writing about yourself, or someone or something you are connected with (such as a friend, family member, or your business), the following steps are different:

1) If the subject really was notable, you wouldn't need to write the article. Remember that articles are owned by the Wikipedia community as a whole, not the article subject or the article author. If you do not want other people to write about you, then starting an article about yourself is a bad idea.

8a) If the article is accepted, never edit it again. Instead, make edit requests on the article's talk page.

8b) If the article is rejected, there will be a reason given. Read it carefully and closely. If there are links in the reason, open them and read those pages.
