Japanese minelayer Okinoshima cleanup[edit]

Hi Mokhov, regarding your question, unless i am mistaken adding date links to articles is depreciated, i therefore removed the date-links you have added to the article. Loosmark (talk) 17:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I'm not sure, I remember there were some community voting on that topic but I haven't followed the latest developments. It might be in the manual of style, I will try to find the link. Loosmark (talk)
Ok I've found it: Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers). Loosmark (talk) 17:50, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

"alright, a place I belong." Most definitely! A warm welcome!

Hi, Mokhov, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 01:21, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From:User talk Ikip:

Hello, Thanks for the invite and the welcome reception to the Article Rescue Squadron :) I'll help with what I can. --Mokhov (talk) 05:38, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And let me know if you have any questions, on whatever subject. Ikip (talk) 17:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thanks! --Mokhov (talk) 00:37, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rescue template[edit]

Re NexIRC, [1] I'm not terribly worried about it. I had planned to rewrite/merge part of the article into a larger article eventually anyway so even if it is deleted at AfD I can request undeletion when it comes time to merge these articles. I went ahead and made a post on WP:ANI about the overall pattern as this wasn't the first time they've done that sort of thing to other editors. I'm looking forward to UMSDOS turning into a speedy snow keep though ;) --Tothwolf (talk) 06:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think WP:ANI perhaps is too harsh at this point. While it is strange Miami33139 went onto a deletionist AfD spree despite their seemingly inclusionist stance (judging by their user page), these might be a viewpoint of clean up of the underdeveloped articles that need improvement. It is conceivable some people prompt this way other editors to improve the quality of the said articles indirectly, so Miami's edits might not be of a bad faith, but I am not certain. Anyways, ANI's up and so are the AfDs, so let the process take its due course and let's improve the articles meanwhile... :) --Mokhov (talk) 14:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • No, the ANI report was in response to them targeting my edits specifically, which they've also done in the past. The main difference this time they were much more brazen about it. The discussion is here and I included diffs. The only reason they went after me was I added the {{WikiProject Computing}} template to the talk pages of a handful of articles that they prodded so that the article alerts notification page for WikiProject Computing would give notification of these prods. More generally, Miami has been mass-prodding articles for quite some time and had stopped for awhile but seems to be back at it again. An admin can find a huge pattern of this in their deleted contribs. --Tothwolf (talk) 15:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, I see that pattern also expressed on their talk page. I read and will follow your ANI. --Mokhov (talk) 15:15, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Namaste, Mokhov. I'm sorry, but I have speedily deleted this category as a repost of a page deleted as the result of a Categories for Deletion discussion. "Living" subcategories are generally frowned upon I'm afraid; please feel free to take it to WP:DRV if you feel strongly. Cheers,  Skomorokh  19:36, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nah, I will apply a Wikipedia policy I've found to my liking to this one -- WP:DGAF. It just made sense to have the category at that time, so I boldly recreated it despite the prior CfD discussion. I am sure it will get recreated again by someone. And, yes, Category:Dead Wikipedians totally makes sense as well for consistency! :-) --Mokhov (talk) 14:32, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RF surnames[edit]

Yeah, those definitely need to be found and fixed. On the bright side, some of the red links turned into blue, so overall the state of the matters remained pretty much unchanged :) Thanks much for putting your time to develop this list, by the way—it will be most useful for cleanup and maintenance! Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 21:00, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

By the way, would it take much work to make the script sort the list properly ("A, B, C, D..." instead of "A, B, V, G...")?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:32, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

I thought of that some time back, but it'd not be a trivial change. I don't have enough time and effort that I can expend right now for this. Currently it follows the ruwiki layout and simply transliterates stuff line-by-line based on exceptions, trigrams, bigrams, and unigrams. Besides there are also issues to resolve like would all Ye (Е), Yo (Ё), Yu (Ю), and Ya (Я) be grouped under just 'Y', then S (С), Sh (Ш), and Shch (Щ) under 'S' etc.? If so, any merges, etc. would require additional re-sorting of the entries after the merges. If we keep them separate, then the enwiki alphanumeric TOC template would still act funny (if that were your intention instead of the regular TOC). --Mokhov (talk) 18:29, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you ever get a chance to work on this, it would be an improvement. That all yes, yos, yus, and yas would be grouped under "y" isn't a big deal, in my opinion, and this in the English Wikipedia, after all, so we should be grouping stuff using the English alphabet. On the other hand, it's not something that has to be done asap—if it's too much work, don't worry about it. We might just sort the list by hand once it stabilizes and having the script stops being as helpful. Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 18:40, October 21, 2009 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do. I gradually maintain the script improving it as I go updating the data. I will see about re-writing it to alphabetize the list as you suggest. However, I don't see the script going away any time soon :) as the list is nearly constantly being updated in ruwiki, which, for now I use as a "master list". BTW, I ported the list to simplewiki and frwiki. --Mokhov (talk) 16:25, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, with offlandish last names like Uashington the list may never stabilize :) That alright, though, we are not in any kind of hurry. Have I thanked you for your work yet? :)—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 16:33, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Yes, you did, on a few occasions :) Thanks. Right, there is no deadline, so things like Uashington eventually will get cleaned up. I can treat such things as exceptions in my script, but, perhaps, you are correct: at some point we may need to fix the list, adapt it properly to enwiki and stop the script-assisted maintenance, and let it have its own life independently from the ruwiki one. I propose to start thinking of that after we alphabetize it for enwiki. Some time after that we perhaps could remove some redlinks that are never likely to materialize or "offlandish" as you put it. --Mokhov (talk) 16:47, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Place Ville-Marie[edit]

Hi there,

I see on your user page that you live in Montreal. I am going to assume that you have heard of Place Ville-Marie in asking you this question. The reports of the number of floors in Place Ville-Marie vary from 43 to 46. Do you, with your Montreal expertise, know the actual number of floors in this structure, or could you possibly visit this building to find out? Thanks,
