License tagging for Image:Graham poll2.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Graham poll2.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:08, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jarnail singhji bhindrwale1.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Jarnail singhji bhindrwale.jpg. The copy called Image:Jarnail singhji bhindrwale.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Hi, could you please explain how the image you added to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is in the public domain? I'm almost certain this is a copyrighted image. Nishkid64 (talk) 12:26, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That one is not a public domain image either. The uploader does not know about copyright law, and he uploaded a portrait of Bhindranwale that was done by someone else. That other person never gave permission for the portrait to be used by Gursheel Singh, or Wikipedia, for that matter. You can't always trust uploader's copyright comments regarding creative commons. They sometimes unknowingly upload images that may be in violation of copyright law. As far as I know, there are no public domain images of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Also, Creative Commons images are not considered public domain. There is a special image copyright license for that. Please see [1]. Thanks, Nishkid64 (talk) 15:01, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm saying the image isn't even a creative commons image. The image is copyrighted and Gursheel Singh uploaded it to Flickr improperly. He even said it himself that it wasn't his creation. Someone else made the work, so the portrait of Bhindranwale is not in the public domain or in usable by Creative Commons. Nishkid64 (talk) 15:37, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi, brief introduction about me I've studied Sikh history for the last 20 years (up to PhD), at the leading academic intuitions in Sikh history and Sikhism - mainly Guru Nanak Dev University. Most importantly (the centre piece of my expertise in Sikhism), I'm very proud to have studied for 4 years under the leading Sant of Sikhism in Punjab - knowledge you can't get from books.

I actually began the Sikh Confederacy article and a lot of the Sikh political and military articles on Wikipedia. There are many things wrong with the info box firstly the map is highly incorrect on the Punjabi Sikh territories and it contains a lot of external states nothing to do with the article. Moreover, importantly the land area is completely wrong (most experts in Punjabi Sikh politics in the 19th century) approximate the land area was a least the size of modern day France. Moreover, Chand Kaur was not a sovereign or coroneted she was an unofficial reagent for 2 1/2 months. The population figures are after the end of the political entity (20 years after), when a lot external migration into Punjab had taken place. In addition, the population figure do not include Kashmir, which was part of the political entity, Afghan territories, subordinate vassal states and etc. Therefore, it is highly inaccurate, wrong and not encyclopaedic and it does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for entry.

I see you have a lot interest in Sikhism so that’s why I have responded in depth but please consult other long time Sikh Wikipedians before making major changes to the Sikh articles. Mass changes without consultation goes completely against Wikipedia's consensus guidelines. If in doubt consult me my door is open to you. Now, I am going to put the article back to the original state, which is accurate. I will consult with my colleagues at Guru Nanak Dev University about a good map, which I will probably add in about 2 months.--Sikh historian 01:48, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you are making edits still. It would be nice to talk to you about your Sikhi background (I presume you are of Punjabi Sikh heritage). Please come and respond on my talk page, regards--Sikh historian 04:11, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
{Hey there. Nice work so far on Sikh diaspora. For the references, could you please add the page numbers that verify the claims made in the article? That would be very helpful. Also, I've nominated your article for DYK, so if all goes well, it should end up on the Main Page in a few days. See [2]. Please reword or fix any inaccuracies. File permission problem with File:Mark lawson.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Mark lawson.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 23:14, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Pd image of Saragarhi Tablet.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Pd image of Saragarhi Tablet.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Mdann52talk to me! 15:44, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
