[edit] redirects to deleted pages

Hey, a quick reminder, when you delete pages take a look for redirects to them, and delete them (CSD-G8) if appropriate. I noticed a fair number of items today at Special:BrokenRedirects that pointed to PRODs you'd processed. (It's an issue I'm a bit extra aware of because I'd missed quite a few myself last week. D'oh!) Have a great weekend! --je deckertalk to me 19:32, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Curious account

Because you blocked the one user for being a sock I was curious what assumptions can be made about the account they created? Thanks for considering this as well. My76Strat 03:39, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] How to re-create?

I did cteate the page for artist Sevil Soyer by her own web site and other sources, actually Sevil Soyer is my wif since 1980 and I wrote her web pages, saatchionline (biography), list of exhibitions, list of articles about her because I did collect them all. This or that reason you deleted her from Wikipedia which also I created, and now I have to create it again with a new text (specially her biography). Please let me know ASAP, how can I do this. Thank you, Nejat Soyer nsoyer2000@yahoo.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nejats (talkcontribs) 19:20, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Um, don't you think you should wait until he actually vandalizes again before blocking this account? --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:15, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I blocked based on this edit, as well as for using a sock at [1]. Nakon 21:17, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I had missed that last sock. Still hesitant about voa/indef, though. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 21:35, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Feel free to alter it as you'd like. Nakon 21:39, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Account creation question

Hi Nakon, I saw that you were active at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Account creator, and I thought I'd ask you a question. On Friday 4 March I'm organizing an "Introduction to WP" session at my university, for English instructors and other interested faculty members (i.e., not vandalism-prone teenagers). In the past, I've had problems with new users creating accounts in the computer lab--this is the result, I understand, of only 6 users being allowed to create an account from the same IP address in a 24-hour period, correct?

It is likely that in this session I will have more people than 6 signing up for an account, and I want all of them to be able to make some sandbox edits, created a talk/user page, etc. How do I circumvent the restrictions? Do I request to become an account creator? Would I be granted such a right? (It's not something that I've been active in--and neither has my Arb-com approved top-secret alter ego, who can email you for confirmation.) I'm in English--would I understand how to do it? (I'm only half-kidding.)

If that is not the appropriate way to go, what else do you suggest? Asking a friendly admin or account creator to stand by at that exact time? BTW, I'm going to ask as many participants as I can to get accounts before the training session, but that may only go so far. OK, by now I'm rambling. I await your response and your advice. Thanks in advance, Dr Aaij (talk) 16:28, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I can temporarily grant you the account creator bit for the day and remove it once you're done. Nakon 22:43, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
That would be great. I'll drop you a line when the time is nigh, and then perhaps you can point me toward the proper instructions. Is there someplace where I can read up already? Again, my job is relatively simple: I will need to be able to have a bunch of people log in from the same computer lab (same IP address, I suppose) at one time--no more, really. Thanks Nakon! Dr Aaij (talk) 04:12, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Nakon, the session has been moved to 1 April. I'll remind you before that time. Thanks, Dr Aaij (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] GOTW

Dear Nakon, I am querying your recent removal of the GOTW page. This is a real phenomena in the Knocklyon area. A desperately sought after title that brings honor to the weekly winner, it is one of the communities most prestigious awards. I feel its inclusion on wikipedia is of the utmost importance and necessary to our parish. Many Thanks and Kind Regards, Patrica Walsh

Wikipedia is not for stuff made up in school one day. Nakon 00:13, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

on the contrary this award has been the culmination of a lot of time and effort on the committees part. we would appreciate its reinstatement as a wiki page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.7.71.5 (talk) 00:18, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a web host. Using it to host a book you've written is not an appropriate use. You may want to look at Wikisource, which may be better suited to your content. Nakon 02:08, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit] yaathu article deletion

hi Nakon,

The article on yaathu has been deleted.. its a Sanskrit word & i found the same through many different websites... a nice sanskrit word has the rights to be in wikipedia for more people to know about it... i hope u consider my conversation. you can check "yaathu" word in any good sanskrit dictionary.... also, let me know why was it deleted?

[edit] Fighting Communist Organizations

Hiya, can you please check back over that deletion? I know this is going back a little - early Feb - but I missed the AN thread at the time.

Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive669#Blocked_user_Marknutley_claiming_a_copyright_violation.

It looks to me like the attribution is OK, so it is not copyvio. It may, of course, have all kinds of other issues - but maybe we're throwing out the baby with the bath-water?

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  14:50, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

At this point, I'd take it to DRV. I'd rather not restore it and cause a huge drama fest that involves a banned user. Nakon 15:46, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough, yes; I'll think about it a bit more - see how the article could shape up, and so on; and DRV if it is worth it. Thanks!  Chzz  ►  15:59, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

The article was deleted through the proposed deletion system. To request undeletion, please file a request at WP:REFUND. Also, if you work for a company and intend to edit articles related to it, you most likely have a conflict of interest, which would prevent you from editing pages that you are closely related with. I noticed that you deleted the Femininities page I created that redirected to Femininity. It is very common in gender studies to discuss the concept of multiple "femininities"; I do believe the redirect to be valid. Would you object to me restoring the redirect?

[edit] Athens Metro

Hello! I want to report a problem, about the article Athens Metro. Well actually the main problem is with User:Sv1xv. Although I understand that he has a great contribution in Wikipedia, he seems a little bit of stubborn about the specific article, or I should say, he believes that he owns it. If me, or anyone else, changes something there, even a "dot", he is going to revert it because he doesn't like it. For example, in my last edit, I updated the Athens Metro Map (by adding 3 new stations) so i changed also the text below the map [it was : A map of rapid transit systems in Athens, showing ISAP (green line)
and Attiko Metro (red and blue lines), in 2007 ] to the new text: A map of rapid transit systems in Athens. Meaning that it is up-to-date, and the word rapid transit includes both ISAP and Attiko Metro lines... But he reverted again, using as excuse: "The regular sneaky POV edits".

Well I think that someone should stop that! Really I appreciate his contribution, but he can not do anything he want! And also by his meaning "regula sneaky" he means that the kind of changes (which refer to ISAP and Attiko metro) are regular because many try to change the article, but he reverts it again. What I mean is that if you check Athens Metro in all other languages, you will find out that there are 3 rapid transit lines in Athens. The line 1 (operated by ISAP SA) and lines 2 & 3 (operated by AMEL SA). So many other try to put in the article information about all three lines. User Sv1xv, insists that line 1 is not a metro line, because it is operated by other company (ISAP) and is not actualy underground. If we keep believing in his opinion, then actually we should change the article to: Attiko Metro (operation company) SA and not "Athens Metro",since it refers only to lines 2 & 3!

Finally in Greece there is not a clear dinstiction between what metro and what is not. ISAP means electrical railways of Athens-Piraeus. Metro is also electrical railways in Athens Metropolitan area. And the reason that AMEL lines are numbered 2 & 3, means that there is another line before them (ie ISAP line 1)..

Can we open a discusion please about that?

Hello,

I have revived the page Ronen. There is a note there that such a page was previously deleted (by you), so please have a look (I don't know what the previous one was about, the current version contains nothing outrageous, I hope).

[edit] Rauda Morcos

Hello Nakon,

I see that you deleted the page for Rauda Morcos in 2006. I have been doing research on feminism and homosexuality in the Middle East and actually think that her work is of prominence enough to warrent a Wikipedia page. Since you are away from Wikipedia I will create the page, but please let me know what you think.

Nakon, you deleted the 'Serianna' page. Unlike 99.9% of other musical artists who don't follow the wikipedia guidelines, Serianna does. THEY HAVE AN ALBUM THAT CHARTED IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THE PAGE I CREATED HAD A CITATION CONFIRMING THIS. Quit wasting people's time and only delete pages that DON'T FOLLOW THE WIKIPEDIA GUIDELINES. If a page meets the guidelines but needs work, make it better rather than deleting it all together. You're a complete waste of a human being. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.217.153.178 (talk) 23:30, 27 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.
