List of people from Atlanta[edit]

Hey there, my bandwidth for doing Wiki stuff is a little limited lately and I can't say this catches me as something I would have a passion for. (I am not much of a list guy, whereas i understand that you are :) I didn't look at the history but assume that this was a long list which was inaccurate or potentially inaccurate and for whatever reason just reverting it would not solve the problem; or copying the list of people who appear in the relevant Category either? Keizers (talk) 22:27, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you want to look at the people on the German version of the page and copy the names - though there is no guarantee they are accurate, at least there will be articles for those peopleKeizers (talk) 23:07, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of mammalian alien species[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article List of mammalian alien species has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Despite the fact that I created this as a split, I only just realized how ludicrous it is to have a list of mammalian aliens due to the fact that for any alien, it is biologically impossible to be a mammal. Mammals, by definition, are directly descended from air-breathing, terrestrial, vertebrate animals. As such, this entire list is pure speculation/original research based not on reputable references but rather each species apparent similarity to species of earth.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Category:Gay Wikipedians[edit]

Hey, I see VegaDark has a problem with this category, if you start a discussion somewhere about keeping it let me know because I support it's inclusion and will voice my support. NYSMtalk page 20:25, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

@Ncboy2010 - I recommend that you stop blind canvassing for the DRV. I looked at your recent contributions, and can't find the organizational principle that you are using to inform users... but it looks a lot like alphabetical (at least till you get down near where you informed me). See WP:CANVASS if you are unfamiliar with it (hard to tell, since you have been here since 2010). Thanks! Syrthiss (talk) 13:23, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey[edit]

I'd love to help out with spreading the word on the Category discussion, but we aren't allowed to solicit support through canvassing. I was going to recommend putting a notice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies, but saw you already did. If you need help with anything else LGBT related you can ask me. I commend you for being a gay man with a voice, standing up for the community, LGBT rights & equality are very important to me. NYSMtalk page 12:11, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

No problem. You're right though, this situation is sad to begin with, we have to deal with inequality and discrimination on a daily basis, and then on Wikipedia we have to fight to be equal with religion or even TV shows. I think we have a better sense or what's right and what's wrong than most people because of what we have to go through, so it can make it frustrating, but I hope it turns out positively. Canvassing[edit]

Hi Ncboy

You recently open a CFD discussion on renaming categories for women by occupation, at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 September 12#Categories:Women_by_occupation.

You quite properly notified a limited number of relevant Wikiprojects. However, the way in which you did this amounted to canvassing, because the the notifications you made ([1], [2], [3]) were not neutrally-worded, which is a requirement of Wikipedia:Canvassing#Appropriate_notification.

In each case you included your rationale for renaming them. This is not neutral, because the whole point of a discussion is to see whether there is a consensus to support the nominator's rationale. For an example of a neutrally-worded notice of a CFD notification, see {{cfd-notify}} -- you will see that it deliberately excludes any opportunity to explain the reason for the proposal.

I assume that this was done because you were not aware of the canvassing guidelines, and that you will amend those notifications to a neutral wording.

Thanks! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:45, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

{reposted from my User talk:BrownHairedGirl, to keep discussion in one place} Sorry about that, neutral wording it is! Please let me know if my wording is alright. Ncboy2010 (talk) 11:28, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
The rewording ([4], [5], [6]) is much better. It doesn't say anything about the merits of the proposal.
However, I would have done it simply by removing the words "the more commonly used", and should have suggested that. Sorry :(
Your change introduced the words "please consider joining", which might be interpreted as a recruitment drive rather than as a bare notification. I wouldn't bother changing it, but for future reference it's a good idea to stick very closely to the wording of the standard templates, because their terminology has been widely-used. That means that if there is any concern about the phrasing used, you can point out that it is a widely-used standard. In most discussions, this sort of pedantry is not an issue, but some CFDs become quite contentious, and it's a good idea to avoid any grounds for allegations of canvassing or vote-stacking.
One thing that's not required at CFD, but which is strongly encouraged at WP:AFD and which I personally think is a good idea, is to be transparent about any notifications which have been made, by adding a note to the discussion. Something along the lines of "I have notified WikiProject Foo Bar is fine; the point is just to ensure that other participants are awar of how widely the discussion has been advertised.
Hope this helps! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:54, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Rename one List Article[edit]

Hi! I think it would be a good idea to rename "List of fictional kangaroos and wallabies" to "List of fictional marsupials" so that koalas, marsupial mice, bandicoots and such like can be added. Deltasim (talk) 14:34, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Ncboy2010. You have new messages at Tahc's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Here is another suggestion. Rename "List of fictional rabbits and hares" to "List of leporids". That way rabbits, hares, jackrabbits and cottontails have a name in a nutshell. Deltasim (talk) 06:47, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Zapatos Viejos (1993 film)[edit]

Hello, Ncboy2010. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Zapatos Viejos (1993 film), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Wgolf (talk) 23:19, 13 February 2014 (UTC) Thanks for adding the refs. Wgolf (talk) 23:30, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
