Hello, Ninney:

WikiProject AFC is holding a two month long Backlog Elimination Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from December 1st, 2013 – January 31st, 2014.

Awards will be given out for all reviewers participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 1000 articles, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!

A new version of our AfC helper script has been released! It includes many bug fixes, new improvements and features, code enhancements, and more. About Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Tempest 23[edit]

Dear Ninney, Thanks for taking an interest in this article.
Gunking round the internet a little, I am (initially) finding only the sources cited. As I see it, the problem here is temporal. This was a good little boat produced for several years, all of which antedated the internet.
I would say (WP:OR and WP:Synth that I expect that this is a notable boat. It comes from extremely good lineage, good builder O'Day boats and a very important yacht designer, Philip Rhodes. He designed Weatherly, for God's sake!
I would suggest that there was lots of intrinsic notability, but that it needs to be found in reviews, commentary, test sails, etc. at the time. Presumably that would be in print media, primarily magazines. That would be my initial suggestion.
I found this note on line. Henderson, Richard (1981). Philip L. Rhodes and His Yacht Designs. Camden, ME: International Marine Pub. Co. ISBN 0-87742-128-5. Retrieved December 5, 2013.  "I think this is the book I looked through quite a few years ago and if it is it had quite a lot of information about his designs in it. I don't remember just how much detail it gave on the various plans, but I think it gave a fair amount. I was able to find my father's boat (one of his lesser designs..the 23' O'Day Tempest) and as I recall they had a profile drawing for it tucked away in the back of the book, and that they had considerably more information on the bigger and more. It is, of course, long out of print, but maybe you can get a copy through inter-library loan, or if you've got plenty of dough, pick up a used copy." I think this might be a good WP:RS and would go a long way toward establishing notability. If one ferrets around in the lines in the Phillip L. Rhodesarticle, there appears to be a trove of relevant information waiting to be uncovered.Mystic Seaport library has primary and secondary material on this boat. O'Day Sailboats & Yachts Collections Catalog: GG Archives]
I've not been personally involved in reviewing articles that are newly submitted for publication. Hypothetically, if this were a question of deletion, I would think that it is probably notable enough. As I am not sure of the standard — I am fairly confident that notability could be established if one could go to the library (particulary the Mystic Seaport Library) and devoted unlimited amounts of time to find the print media and original sources — I am not sure that we are over the threshold you are operating with.
I doubt that I can find the time to do the hard copy research, if that is what it takes. Maybe the original creator will do that.
Alternatively, you could weigh the long term potential of the article. And then do what you think is right. Happy editing. 7&6=thirteen () 02:26, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the info ! Notability won't be an issue ... you mentioned ... father's boat ... if possible can we have a photo, I had already marked image needed in the Talk page.
The "father's boat" was part of a text I quoted from something I found on line. I have no connection with this boat, other than I ran into a call for assistance on a project page. So I don't have a picture. 7&6=thirteen () 23:01, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Update regarding AfC backlog drive auto-updating with AFCBuddy[edit]

Manual updating of your Backlog Elimination Drive page is no longer necessary. The AFCBuddy bot is now automatically updating AfC reviews that are performed when using the Helper script. The bot-generated pages are located at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/December 2013 - January 2014 Backlog Elimination Drive/[Your user name].

Importantly, please note that any re-reviews you may have performed will need to be manually copied and pasted to the bot-generated pages. Thank you for participating in the drive. Northamerica1000(talk) 19:37, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

About Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Bolton Lads and Girls Club[edit]

I have added all the points you raised which were missing from submitted article; and I was able to add several categories despite you asking for one. However, how can I add an image to an article not yet published as a wiki page? The tool rejects talk pages etc. Once the article is published I will add the logo which I have here. Thanks Stufroguk (talk) 16:28, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Stufroguk, Do let me know, once you finish editing completely. I need to do some minor alterations within a day or two & then only you resubmit it for AFC Creation.
To add an image - In the Infobox non-profit, their is a parameter Image. Refer Template:Infobox non-profit.
Have you uploaded the Image file in a separate wiki page? For Eg. File:Bolton Lads and Girls Club Logo.jpg, if so, type | image = [[File:Bolton Lads and Girls Club Logo.jpg]], else give me the Wiki Image file name. - Ninney (talk) 16:57, 11 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Ninney. Thank you indeed for editing article and submitting. I'm shortly uploading the official logo image, cheers for the tips. Regards. Stufroguk (talk) 15:12, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Removal of Strangers and Brothers links[edit]

You have been removing links to the Strangers and Brothers series of books by C P Snow in many articles (see your contributions list). There are so many that they must have been done by a bot. You falsely claimed that The Conscience of the Rich, which you had edited, was reviewed & accepted and you redirected article links to Strangers and Brothers to the now non-existent The Conscience of the Rich. Please restore these links. It seems to me that you deliberately subverted Wikipedia's processes. Can you explain your conduct? I remind you that users who show that they are unable to edit Wikipedia competently may have their editing privileges revoked. Xxanthippe (talk) 21:48, 12 December 2013 (UTC).

@Xxanthippe: Oh ! my apologies for the same. Though it may seem deliberately done but it was a mistake by me while using check boxes when I was trying to remove the redirect link of The Conscience of the Rich with Strangers and Brothers. The action went topsy-turvy completely while using Twinkle which has a good provision, I mistakenly kept the check mark instead of unchecks & while I planned to undo my actions after I completed the Review process of The Conscience of the Rich, the review process failed for some unknown reason. I tried thrice to mark the article The Conscience of the Rich as reviewed but thrice it showed the same error.
I am an user who assumes good faith, especially when it comes to editing Wikipedia trying to do what I really think is best. Its nothing about lack of competence or some kind of mischief but a pure accident. Alas ! but the damage is done.
At the end of the explanation, I apologize for the inconvenience of the damage done & not reverted my changes & Thanks for the trouble of reverting them. - Ninney (talk) 16:10, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the explanation. Please would you revert the remaining ones. Xxanthippe (talk) 21:45, 18 December 2013 (UTC).
@Xxanthippe: Reverted all S&B links as listed in my contribution list. Also, the review process of C. P. Snow's The Conscience of the Rich is done. Do check the article & see if you can add some valuable inputs in the article. - Ninney (talk) 13:13, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for making these changes. Best wishes. Xxanthippe (talk) 21:52, 19 December 2013 (UTC).

Gingerbread house[edit]

Hi Ninney, I noticed you just altered [1] the Food and Drink Project template on the talk page for Gingerbread house. I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about templates at all and I had been confused when I first put the Project banner on the article talk page as it inserted a number of categories: "Food and drink articles needing attention to referencing and citation"; "Food and drink articles needing attention to coverage and accuracy"; "Food and drink articles needing attention to structure"; "Food and drink articles needing attention to grammar"; "Food and drink articles needing attention to supporting materials"; and "Food and drink articles needing attention to accessibility". I raked about a bit and it seemed that if I added the parameter "category=no" it didn't then add all the categories given (as I don't think they apply to the article). Was this wrong? SagaciousPhil - Chat 12:32, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

@Sagaciousphil: No, I had simply marked the article as START class but if we think that the article is way beyond the class tagged, then we need to Refer Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Assessment -
01. Any member of the Food and drink WikiProject is free to add or change the rating of an article.
or
02. Request an assessment on WikiProject Food and drink. Refer Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink/Assessment#Requesting an assessment.
I am sure the article is well written and much more than the Start class.
Good Luck & All the best & do let me know the outcome.
- Ninney (talk) 12:59, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi, the article was already marked as start class. My concern is that the change you made (i.e. removing the parameter "categories=no") means that a load of categories have been added to the talk page that really do not apply - the article certainly does not require attention to grammar, referencing etc but your change means it is appearing in those categories. Does the inclusion of that parameter cause a problem on the template? It is due to appear on the main page DYK section on Christmas Day as the lead hook, so I would rather this was addressed. SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:08, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@Sagaciousphil: Refer Category:WikiProject banners with formatting errors for more info. I think the parameters class & importance have to be removed then the article would be marked as unaccessed. Do whatever is best. I tried removing class parameter & then importance parameter. The article is worth a DYK nominee, the formatting errors can be tackled in the first week of Jan. See to it that all your efforts (edits) is in best interest in making the article in DYK. All my support & all the best for the DYK. - Ninney (talk) 14:06, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
@Sagaciousphil: After going through the article, I had assessed the rating parameters as Class B with all B1-B6 parameters as positive. Check the category section now. Did it got nominated for DYK? - Ninney (talk) 13:19, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Yes, thank you, Ninney; it was kind of you to sort that out. The DYK is currently sitting in the Queue as the lead hook (with the image of the gingerbread house) to appear on the main page starting from midnight on Christmas Day for 12 hours (UK time). It is Hafspajen's baby really, with copy editing helped along the way by Eric Corbett and Yngvadottir - two of our very best editors, so that's why I knew there weren't any grammar problems etc! The categories on the talk page look much better now! SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:45, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
[Blushing horribly] Eric yes, me not so much. But thanks, and good Yule to you both. Yngvadottir (talk) 13:52, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Difference between Category:1971 in spaceflight & Category:Spacecraft launched in 1971[edit]

@WDGraham: What is the major difference between Category:1971 in spaceflight & Category:Spacecraft launched in 1971 ? - Ninney (talk) 01:48, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Category:1971 in spaceflight is a higher-level category for all events in 1971 (except those covered by subcategories), while Category:Spacecraft launched in 1971 is just for individual spacecraft launched that year. --W. D. Graham 09:03, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! - Ninney (talk) 00:37, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Multiple links[edit]

You're doing a great job with the cleanup. Just one little thing, I thing you might be being a little overzealous when it comes to removing multiple wikilinks - it is usually acceptable to link again in the text anything that is also in the infobox or a navbox; here, for example, you've removed a few critical links (Kosmos-2I, Dnepropetrovsk Sputnik) because they are also in the boxes. I'm also not sure about shortening the {{convert}} templates - we usually leave them fully expanded, especially in prose. --W. D. Graham 23:34, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

  • @WDGraham - Oops ! Its too late now. I had already promised that I would be working on the OLBY part this month & the month is near to completion & I am way behind schedule (had reached only till the year 1969). After all the OLBY template creation, the task of adding it in individual spacecraft articles is what I am working - Adding Template: Orbital launches in YYYY, Category:Spacecraft launched in YYYY & my all time favorite Portal|Spaceflight.
I got the AWB recently & still trying to figure out how it works exactly. It shows me a list box with Multiple wiki-links & considering it as an inappropriate WP:MOS, I removed those wikilinks. I had never focussed much on Multiple wiki-links before & not that enthusiastic. I am happy now that I need not concentrate on it at all. Anyway, what is done is done, I will try to fix those links from all the articles I had been working for past 3-4 days. Thanks for highlighting. -Ninney (talk) 00:09, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/A._T._Moorthy[edit]

Dear Ninney,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review my draft submission of my father A.T Moorthy's Wikipedia entry. As I am new to Wikipedia, I only just managed to find my way to the Conflict of Interest page where you provided some additional detail about your reasons for rejecting the submission.

I note in your comment that you suspect that the article was submitted by my late father himself, as you point out the "Shri" is used in India as an honorific. Perhaps I should explain that my given name is Sri Ayilavan Thedchana Moorthy, and that I go as "Sri Moorthy". This has not caused me a problem until I tried to submit an entry to Wikipedia!

Regarding your question about why the biographical entry is important and about why I emphasised the events in my father's life as I did: here I do think you have missed the most important point of the entry, to the extent of interpreting the opposite! The point of the entry was not about the service that my father did for his country, which itself was not inconsiderable, or it would not have got him to the post of Sri Lanka High Commissioner in London, but the service he did for his community, namely the Tamils of Sri Lanka, in taking a courageous stand against the Government of Sri Lanka, at great personal sacrifice (loss of a career, threats made to his life, inability to return to his home country etc). A previous editor had no issues with the content, only with the formatting and the references, all of which I have addressed.

I hope that I have addressed your concern that my (late) father had tried to create his own entry. I do also encourage you to look up the many references that I provided, especially the obituary in "The Guardian", which is one of the major daily newspapers in the United Kingdom, that only publishes obituaries of significant national and international figures, written by professional journalists. I look forward to receiving your feedback.

Kind regards Sri.moorthy (talk) 22:11, 26 January 2014 (UTC)Sri Moorthy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sri.moorthy (talkcontribs) 22:03, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

  • @Sri.moorthy -
    Hi Mr. Moorthy,
Firstly thanks for clearing the doubt regarding the name Sri.Moorthy & secondly sorry if my comments have hurt you. I was very sure that the person who had over 39 edits till date & that to on ONLY this particular article for past 8 months is either himself or someone close which implies WP:COI. Even the result of my complaint discussion was COI APPEARS TO BE OBVIOUS. In Wikipedia, COI editing is strongly discouraged. But, since you had made it clear about yourself, I suggest you work on the comments of the reviews done.
I am only waiting for a short lead (Introduction), Early life, 1 liner Education details & start of Career to make the Review of the article as ACCEPTED. So, If you can provide one, do so & then mark it for review & inform me immediately. If time permits, I may also do a bit of copy editing to make sure it is fairly written and properly sourced as per Wiki standards with WP:NPOV. Better you do it, before this month ends for I am not sure about my availability in February.
Lastly, Read these as my friendly advice (Since the article is a biography about your Late Father) -
    * Please bear in mind that Wikipedia is almost entirely operated by volunteers, and impolite behavior, even if entirely understandable, will often be less effective.
    * Wikipedia seeks neutrality. An article that is written about you or someone close should be editorially neutral. It will not take sides and will report both the good and the bad about you from verifiable and reliable sources. It will not promote you. It will just contain factual information about you from other sources. This is a mixed blessing.
    * Some accomplishment or event, good or bad, may give you notability enough to qualify for a Wikipedia article. Once a celebrity, one's personal life may be exposed. No one is perfect, so one's faults may get reported, and overreported, and reported enough to end up on Wikipedia . Even if you have lived a life free of scandal, and your Wikipedia article is spotless, at some time in the future your first publicized mistake may well end up getting into that article. Suddenly your fame may turn into highly publicized infamy. Yes, Wikipedia is highly publicized! It is mirrored and copied all over the place.
    * Since all information added to Wikipedia must be verifiable, this may make it difficult or impossible to defend yourself against sourced negative information added to an article about you. If the information is added within guidelines, you cannot tell "your side" of the story or otherwise provide a response.
    * Even if there is nothing bad to say about you, vandalism on Wikipedia is quite common, and most articles are vandalized by someone at one time or another. Vandalism consists of a variety of additions, removals, and other changes, often including hate speech (possibly against your ethnicity or the cause you stand for), profanity, inappropriate images, external links, or just random characters. Vandalism is generally reverted quickly, but unless oversighted, will remain permanently in the edit history. Most edit histories are likely ignored unless they bear some significance.
Thumbs up All the best ! Awaiting Review to be done by me for Late Mr. A. T. Moorthy's article. - ~~

Speedy deletion nomination of Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation[edit]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, Speedy delete contest button.svg. Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Mean as custard (talk) 22:21, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Konkan Railway[edit]

Why only Marathi for Konkan Railway? This Railway is in Goa and Karnataka too. Why are you against including Konkani and Kannada in the article? They are the official languages of Goa and Karnataka. Moreover, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala states had participated and had made financial contributions to Konkan Railways while construction. If you have traveled throughout the length of Konkan Railway, then you will see that Marathi, Konkani and Kannada are used by Konkan Railway in different states. pdh 01:45, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 12[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help.
