Hey[edit]

Good to hear from you. I've been on somthing of a break myself, at least from the Int Power pages; I've not been thoroughly idle though - I've put together my notes for the rest of the rewrite. Sometime during the next week I'll type it all up and that will be the rewrite finished. Good news about the book - you'll be able to go through and verify everything. Hopefully we'll soon be able to sign off on the Great power article, although keeping it clear of OR etc might well prove to be a long-term job - we'll see if the rewrite (and the Historical powers article) discourages this.

Were you able to contact ambood at ambood[at]gmail[dot]com? he needed to contact you wasn't able to. were you able to get in touch with him. It is extremely important.--D-Boy 06:57, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You do not need to use your personal email. A junk account is fine. What he needs to discuss with you can be done over your talk page.--D-Boy 03:15, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formation of India in Infobox[edit]

Dear Nobleeagle,

There is a fierce discussion going on in the India page with Fowler&fowler trying to impose eurocentric views on words such as "Colony" and removing "Formation" info from the India Infobox. I request you to put in your comments supporting the removal of the sentence "Colonised as ..." and reframing it to "India emerged as a...expelled the non-natives...single nation-state". I also request your support for the Formation info in the infobox. Additionally I also request your support that references need not be necessary all the time (as all references contain eurocentric terms).

Wanna go back to Indian cricket team?[edit]

Hey Nobleeagle, I read that you want to avoid going into any controversial stuff on Wiki just like me! Wikipedia used to be fun but these Indian battles have been pointlessly stressing everyone out. If you have some time, we can start fresh, finish off Indian cricket team and make it an FA. I also have one eye on Cricket World Cup. Cheers GizzaChat © 22:17, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Zhang Yimou[edit]

I apologize for the biting tone of my comments. But disagree with the notion that you have to be popular among the general public to be known and respected. Zhang Yimou is certainly well-known and respected amongst international film critics. Jackie Chan is popular and well-known, but Zhang Yimou is still well-known internationally in his field. Regarding my tone, I feel a lot of the China-related articles here are regretably being "sieged" by a few Indian (or pro-India) editors. I have the utmost respect for India and India's current economic achievements (as most Chinese in China do too on account of our parallel modern histories), but I sense there is some kind of competition between the editors of the two countries in Wikipedia here, and so naturally suspect political agenda motivating certain (very blatantly POV) edits on the China articles. Thank you for your message, as it has made me realize that perhaps this is not the case. I agree that the China as an emerging superpower (as well as the India, EU articles in the series) article has a lot of problems, and I would like constructive suggestions to make the article more relevant and informative. But I don't think patronizing and generalized lectures on "freedom", "democracy" and "a good life" is necessary in the Talkpages for the China articles. Who doesn't love freedom? The Chinese editors on Wikipedia come from diverse backgrounds with diverse political views, we aren't all card-carrying Commies. But most would agree with me that there are different freedoms and some freedoms are best enjoyed at a later time, just as a teenager should not have the freedom to drink alcohol. So let's be more practical, try to make our Wikipedia articles better, and save philosophical/moral viewpoints and arguments for the dinner table. Cheers. --Mamin27 07:33, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From [1]:

No, history isn't something you plop at the end of the article, most featured articles would present the history or biography first and then having additional information

The whole article is out of order. I think we need to have the list of current Great powers near the top instead of at the bottom. The characteristics section is likewise buried, and it shouldn't be; as the defining section, I think that should go first. The list of historical countries is least important, I think, especially since it could become expansive if later editors decide to add in all older countries instead of using the current breakpoint. I'm fine with having a historical piece toward the beginning, but the expansive history seems out of place there -- I think most users want to know how the term is used now and how it applies to the modern world.

Can we have some organization (almost any!) other than the current one? It seems almost the worst possible arrangement to me. CRGreathouse (t | c) 08:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just say that I agree with Nobleeagle's reversion - the history definitely belongs as the top, both chronologically and structurally. Perhaps this is less a question of restructuring the article per se - rather it is one of expanding the lead, so that the casual reader gains the essentials.
A lot of the regular editors, myself included, seem to have been taking a break from the series recently. I'm now back, as I believe Nobleeagle is, and hopefully we will be able to get this article into a finalised form, with the rewrite of countries section completed, before the start of the new year.
Xdamrtalk 16:09, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just replying here because there are two people involved in this conversation. The lead doesn't mention the history of the term at all and neither does it mention any past powers. So there's no emphasis on history in the lead. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 04:39, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lage Raho Munna Bhai[edit]

Hi! Is there a specifc sentence/section that requires citations? The article currently has over 50 references. It surely is already GA material. A peer review, and it should soon be worth FA too. Google news is a good place to search for citations, (in case you havent already).--thunderboltz(Deepu) 06:00, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay. Will try to search for something on that.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 13:29, 14 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

question[edit]

Hi. If I'm not mistaken, you have added this section [2]. Could you please look at it again, in my opinion it has many inaccuracies. But first of all, I don't think that OIT has much in common with the concept of "Aryan race", except for those that are piggy-backing on the talismanic status given to the Nazi terms. The section IMO should be rewritten and be moved to some other page. Regards --RF 20:56, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your questions on Urdu Language[edit]

"Thus, it can be safely concluded that while Urdu is NOT A TURKIC LANGUAGE, it still shares a number of words of pure Turkish origin as well as words of Arabic and Persian origin common to both Urdu and Turkish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.189.60.30 (talkcontribs)

"IAT"[edit]

It appears that you completely misunderstand my intentions: I have no desire to have the propagandistic material deleted, and I would sternly oppose deletion of the Indigenous Aryan article. The term has been coined by Bryant in his 1997 dissertation to refer to the phenomenon in Indian scholarly and political discourse. My only aim is to get a clean discussion of the Urheimat hypothesis on "OIT" without having to clean out offtopic patriotic nonsense every day. I continue to agree with you that the OIT has some notability, and deserves, indeed, to be presented as a scholarly minority position, and not as a rallying cry of dim or dishonest nationalists, which alas it has also become. Let me add that I believe that any involvement of politics is based on a complete fallacy: even if "OIT" or "IAT" were true, there would be no enhanced moral ground for ethnic nationalism, nor would a 100% correct "AIT" add any moral backing to anti-Hindu sentiment. To employ ancient history for political ends is a complete and pathetic fallacy, from beginning to end, and so is of course the desire to prove one or the other hypothesis right based of patriotic or religious emotion. If I became convinced of "OIT" by new and sensational finds (an IVC chariot grave, an actual decipherment of the Indus script,...) I would gladly review and re-date much of IE linguistic history, but it wouldn't affect my political or moral outlook as much as a iota. dab (𒁳) 14:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Military in India Emerging....[edit]

Can you tell me from where are these military #s are sourced. The wikipd article on military size is also unsourced. I did not find any evidence in the web which proves those nos. Infact the only web page which ranks military strength, ranks india fourth. Where have this #s come from? If theres no good source they must go. Oneearth 14:33, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Hi Nobleeagle - Put it under today, as in this case, we are dealing with an expansion. The other thing is that, as of tomorrow afternoon, I will be away from a computer until the new year, and with User:GeeJo already on holidays, the DYK updating might slow down even more. So if the backlog increases, then nag they people on the list at Template talk:Did you know - that includes Gurubrahma, Srikeit and Aksi_great. Dab's Indigenious Aryan Theory[edit]

I feel that we should oppose Dab's new invention term. We already have OIT article which covers this scenario. But there is no need for special aricle by Dab so that he can show his prejudice with one sided story. This is against WP:Invention policy. How to delete this article as Dab is not neutral writer as agreed with his edits. He do not want to portray other side and deletes.Whatever is written in that article is not having any new things besides showing his hatred. So, this invention theory article should be deleted. WIN 05:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for replying so late as i was out of town for last two weeks and didnt had internet access. I do feel that there should be a separate article on 4500-4000BCE Vedas (wherever the heck PIE originated), even if it is tagged as pseudoscience. (This would imply 3100 BCE Kurukshetra war and an Indo-aryan IVC). I am not sure about the heading of the article though. I would personally suggest Proto-Vedic Continuity which would just deal with arguments related to the presence of Indo-Aryans in 4th millenium.
Call it irrational zealousy or whatever, personally, I would prefer a 4000BCE Vedas Non-OIT scenario rather than a 1500BCE Vedas OIT. nids(♂) 11:29, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted cat?[edit]

In this edit [3], you removed a category I added to the article. Since I don't have a wikipedia account, I can't create the category article page -- it was not a category that was deleted. I do think it is a useful category though since there is at least 7 articles that fit in it. Could you readd the categories to those pages and create the category article? Thanks. --70.51.229.191 22:34, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alternatively, we can create a "Power in international relations" category instead. I really think we need a category for these superpower/power related articles. The international relations category is too full at its base level right now. --70.51.229.191 22:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I did notice that you are correct that the category "Superpowers" was deleted but it was deleted in 2005 and at the time it was used similarly to "super heros" and other comic book related materials, not in the way I was intending. See deletion log here [4]. --70.51.229.191 22:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should Jerry Klein Islamophobia experiment be deleted?[edit]

As you have contributed to the Islamophobia article, please consider visiting Jerry Klein’s 2006 Islamophobia Radio Parody where Jerry Klein acted as if he was for forcing American-Muslims to wear special identification marks, similar to the Jews in Nazi Germany. This was to gauge his audience’s reaction and he was shocked by the calls he received. It is currently being debated if the page should be deleted. Please read the article and vote at [5]. Thank You.Wowaconia 00:59, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great power rewrite[edit]

From memory (I don't have the notes to hand at the moment), I dealt principally with the UK, Italy, Germany, and Russia/USSR. That leaves India and the US to be started off from scratch, Japan to be finished off, and the two China strands to be merged.

I'll try and finalise Japan and China tomorrow. If you could try and get something down for India and the US, that would be excellent. Have you had any thoughts/made notes re. the other four?

Best wishes, Xdamrtalk 23:03, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Outstanding job, you've certainly put my procrastination to shame! I'll finish off China and Japan today, the rest on the 24th. Any thoughts as to where we go after that? Perhaps find some suitable pictures to illustrate each of the Great powers?
