Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to 2014 American-led intervention in Iraq may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Speedy deletion nomination of Castanopsis fargesii[edit]

Hello Omar hoftun,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Castanopsis fargesii for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Killer Moff (talk) 09:39, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you removed the above speedy deletion notice. Please note that you cannot do this, as you created the page yourself. please feel free to contest the deletion, or make any alterations to the page so that it does not violate copyright. Killer Moff (talk) 12:17, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism[edit]

Dear Omar,

Please do not contribute plagiarized text to Wikipedia. Your recent edits show a pattern of plagiarized contributions copied verbatim from online sources. I noticed this when investigating your contributions from the (also plagiarized) Castanopsis fargesii page. The information you are sharing is all good and valid, but you need to write it in your own words.

At Castanopsis: This edit was plagiarized from [this paper]

At Tupelo: This edit was plagiarized from [this paper]

In both cases, you correctly cited a valid source which contained the offending text. It was clearly done in good faith, so it just needs paraphrasing.

Let's reduce the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement![edit]

I would like to invite you to check out the Environmental impact project page on Meta, where I am trying to create some momentum to reduce the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. A page you started (Phyllis viscosa) has been reviewed![edit]

Thanks for creating Phyllis viscosa, Omar hoftun!

Wikipedia editor Nick Moyes just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

The lead sentence needs to be reworked to better introduce it as a plant, and then to say it's a member of the Rubiaceae. I knoew this info is in the Taxobox, but I firmmly believe it should be a part of the lead sentence of every plat taxon. Add a section on 'Description' and refer there to similarity with P.nobla, please. The distribution section should be turned into a proper sentence or two. General habitat information would be useful, too.

March 2019[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Phyllanthus, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Please stop adding this fossil information everywhere. The findings are sparse and highly preliminary. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia requiring high-quality reviews to support the best-established facts, not a place for scientific news reports. Read WP:SCIRS as a reminder. Zefr (talk) 13:39, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on Sambucus. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Please stop adding this preliminary information. Zefr (talk) 14:40, 12 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Zefr did not say that your additions were unsourced, as you claimed in your latest edit summaries. What you were told is that they did not meet the standards of WP:SCIRS. The problem is relying on a single journal article without evidence of acceptance by peers via other sources. This problem often crops up when editors add a new species to a genus article based on the original journal article that describes and names the species. We require evidence that other biologists have accepted this species before we can add it to Wikipedia.
Personally, I don't take quite such a hard line here as Zefr, since I've worked on paleobotanical articles and am very aware that the community of researchers is small, so sometimes it is necessary to add material based on limited sources. However, then it should be added with an appropriate caveat, e.g. "There is a single report of one fossil fruit of a Rumex species having been ...", so that readers are warned. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:38, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to contributors Peter coxhead and Zerf, Professor Maria Łańcucka-Środoniowa doesn't describe the single Rumex fossil fruit on a species level but only at a genus level and Rumex fruits are so distinctive in shape that it is not possible to mix it up with fruits from other plant types, her finding is also supported by other finds by famous Danish paleobotanical scientist Else-Marie Friis of Rumex fossil fruits from the same geological time period in Silkeborg, Denmark, close in geographical proximity to the Polish site of Nowy Sącz Basin. Maria Łańcucka-Środoniowa says in her article that she has communicated with Else-Marie Friis regarding her fossil Rumex fruits similarity to the fossil Rumex fruits found in Denmark. So the single Polish fossil Rumex fruit is supported by several other fossil Rumex fruit findings and by two different renown scientific journals and two famous professors.Omar hoftun (talk) 09:00, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The degree of fame of an author is not relevant; we can't make such assessments. If you have multiple references, then add them to the article. As it's not a claim with any direct impact (unlike, say, a medical claim), I think this would be sufficient. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:14, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is only to search these to journal titles below online, they will then come up as PDF documents where Rumex is introduced and then reviewed extensively followed by photographs and references:

Friis, Else Marie (1985). "Angiosperm Fruits and Seeds from the Middle Miocene of Jutland (Denmark)". The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters. 24 (3).

Macroscopic plant remains from the freshwater Miocene of the Nowy Sącz Basin (West Carpathians, Poland) by Maria Łańcucka-Środoniowa, Acta Palaeobotanica 1979 20 (1): 3-117.Omar hoftun (talk) 13:45, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
