Question 2[edit]

Why are YOU being so disruptive? I have read other comments on this site and it is clear that you are being very subjective in your editing and hampering of Wikipedia. Please cease & desist. What right do you have? Are you even being paid to do this?

Do you work for Wikipedia or have you just committed yourself to enforcing your personal opinions on the website? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Haydn12 (talkcontribs) 22:42, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Is it not academic boosterism to bold universities like Harvard & Yale but not the others on the Association of American Universities site? What do you do all day? Just sit on the computer looking for changes to wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Haydn12 (talkcontribs) 22:27, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Always happy to help revert vandalism. I usually catch the ones that get through the recent change watch because I hang out on short pages a lot of the time. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish July 7, 2005 14:11 (UTC)

My apologies. had I known you do that on purpose I wouldn't have done anything.

And now I know. forgive the screw up.

The University of Alabama[edit]

You obviously don't go to the University of Alabama. ;-) In Alabama, "The University" is a proper noun. "The University" is very typically capitalized when referring to the University of Alabama within Alabama. Several of the cases you just changed probably can be changed back, though I don't have time to review them in full right now. I don't have my CMS handy, so I can't brandish it menacingly, but I'm pretty sure there's some loophole I can exploit. Yes, you're technically correct, but there's a fair amount of pride involved in this. ;-p —LonelyPilgrim 21:42, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, I was being slightly facetious, but thanks for understanding. I'll look at it some more. —LonelyPilgrim 03:23, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

University of Wisconsin to UW-Madison Banter[edit]

No, there never was any discussion to move it back. Yes, I was the person who moved it. SushiGeek 17:11, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

'Making themselves known'? Wisconsin was the only one I moved. Who do you think moved it? (UW's the more common name) SushiGeek 17:26, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
What I'm saying is that I moved UW-Madison to UW, not some other individual. SushiGeek 02:47, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
That's cause it's more commonly known as UW, despite the inaccuracy. SushiGeek 02:56, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
OH, I'm sorry. I thought you were involved with moving it back to UW-Madison. Sorry. :-) SushiGeek 03:33, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

UA Motto[edit]

Ok, in fairness, I will provide to you the proper sources proving sursum is the official motto. I do not desire an unnecessary "editing war" with someone who appears to make worthy contributions to wikipedia. In the meantime, I would appreciate it if we can leave the two mottos on display, as I assure you I can and will provide you with adequate sources. Thanks. AZCactus1 05:40, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Ommnomnomgulp, I've been doing some research on the motto, and I've contacted MANY individuals affiliated with UA (alumni office, president's office, advancement, etc) and several people have confirmed that Bear Down is the official and only motto. However, others believe the issue of "sursum" raises some interesting points and are investigating the idea. So far, it looks as if "Bear Down" is the official motto of UA, until proved otherwise. I will update with any new information.AZCactus1 20:14, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Univ AZ Question[edit]

Hello and thanks for the help with the Univ Arizona article. It is well appreciated. However, not all university pages contain venues and specifics on the history of the mascot, particularly when a linked page has been created specifically for the athletic program. The UA main article has become rather long, and it does need to be trimmed down. While all the information is relevant and valid, some of it could stand to be moved to related and linked articles...similar to U. Texas Austin, U. Minnesota, Cornell, all schools with separate athletic pages. That said, any advice you may have on how to better trim down the UA article is greatly appreciated. It doesn't make much sense to continue editing and reverting edits without a consistent dialogue. Really, any advice is appreciated and encouraged! Mxpc05 02:10, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

University of Tulsa[edit]

I noticed you reverted my infobox change and attemted to direct me to a discussion. I am, however, unable to loctate that discussion. Anywho, the template it now uses, Template:Univ taxobox, had been deprecated. The consensus in the community has been that Template:Infobox University is the standard for university and college articles. Now, if you would direct me to this discussion you cite, then I would be happy to answer. American Patriot 1776 02:33, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Tulsa app[edit]

Wow, sorry it took forever for me to respond to your post on 27 April. I've been meaning to get back to you for a while now. The Tulsa app went fine, i got in and got a full ride because i'm a national merit finalist. I chose to go to George Washington University instead, not because Tulsa is a bad school (my dad went there, and being from Tulsa i have tons of friends going there) but because i've lined in Tulsa for 18 years and would like to experience DC. What years did you attend TU? I see that you go to school in Madison, there are two kids from my graduating class that are goin there this fall, one for graphic design and one for genetics. Nice to see you're a fellow Eagle Scout, too. Talk to you later.

Canon and film camera[edit]

Hi! Can you explain your edit to the Canon article about their stopping film camera development? Your only comment was AP apparently mis-reported their intention to stop making SLRs), which doesn't provide a reference -- for example, to a clarification or retraction from AP. AP wasn't the only news source to publish such an article; Reuters did so, too. Normally, this kind of thing is discussed on an article's talk page and not left to an incomplete edit comment. -- Mikeblas 17:55, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I'll post the article reference in discussion. This is sortof old news, for what it's worth, but Canon keeps fighting it. I didn't worry about posting a citation since 1) there was no original citation to begin with and 2) I generally don't cite for information that doesn't exist (as I cut out the paragraph in entirety. Ommnomnomgulp 18:00, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Also, you may want to note:
Hi! Can you explain your edit to the Canon article about their stopping film camera development? Your only comment was AP apparently mis-reported their intention to stop making SLRs),
The paragraph I deleted had nothing to do with them stopping film camera development, it was about, as I stated in my memo, Canon stopping SLR development. Ommnomnomgulp 18:20, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! See ya on the talk page! -- Mikeblas 18:40, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

UW or UW-Madison?[edit]

There's another discussion going on about UW's article name (or lack thereof of a discussion); it's being manually moved to UW-Madison. 1ne 05:46, 18 September 2006 (UTC) (formerly SushiGeek/WikiFanatic)

I completely agree with you about the name! Ever noticed that it's commonly referred to as UW? Let's see... on my school's intercom today, "recruiters from the University of Wisconsin" were mentioned. UW's sports logo is a red W. UW's sports sweatshirts say "WISCONSIN" and nothing else. Two license plates I saw yesterday said "University of Wisconsin" and had UW (Madison)'s logo. 1ne 01:29, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bucky.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bucky.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. UNR[edit]

Why did you remove all of my edits to UNR's article? I had added:

  • a ==Faculty== section with an ===IS=== subject subsection
  • a ==See also== section for Wikipedia links
  • some links to UNLV

These are standard inclusions that are useful, informative and can be added to by others.

You also removed another link to UNR Arts which could have been moved to ==See also==

Legally Insane[edit]

Indeed, I am a medical-student, but unfortunately declaring someone legally insane is more a legal thing than a medical thing. In any case, for my part I can prescribe some valium and hope he calms down and goes away for awhile. To prove that point, I thought you might like to know he made a complaint about you at the WP:AN here and I've left a response, but you may also want to follow it or leave your own response. Cheers, PaddyM 23:35, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Just so you know, I reported Miaers at the three-revert noticeboard, so hopefully we won't have play this game for a few hours today and tomorrow. Cheers, PaddyM 02:07, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Yea, that will be kinda nice. I was surprised it was that long, but I'm not going to complain.
Say, I noticed you're studying history at the UW. I was a history major and loved the entire department. Do you ever work with Boydston? She was one of my favorites... Cheers, PaddyM 03:46, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, I was enjoying my break - until I got blocked! Not quite sure the legitimacy behind that, but I guess we get a two week break now, so I can't complain. I still contest that I was reverting vandalism by Miaers, but that got denied. Ah well... Cheers, PaddyM 16:18, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
So, it was a nice vacation, but like all good things, it came to an end ... Cheers, PaddyM 16:10, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Yea, thats about right. I think Psantora got the same thing, too. I honestly don't even know what his point is, but it seems he feels everyone needs to know. Whatever, PaddyM 23:22, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Your revert on UW System talk page[edit]

This is to let you know that I'm disgusted by your posting of my discussion with Psantora onto the UW System talk page. The discussion happened on Psantora's talk page not on UW System. There is no need to make a duplicate. He also violated 3RR. He was lucky I didn't report you at that time.Miaers 12:54, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

How can I lay a complaint?[edit]

It appears that the ganging up of people with subjective ideals about which boats are "noteable" or not has overruled the true objective standpoint about notable ACC yachts. I have given the editors who have vandalized the IACC page by placing yachts without due reason. I have given quotes for my reasoning behind not allowing SUI-64 noteable status, even the boat designer declares so! Just because a boat won an event does not make it noteabe per the deffinition. TO be noteable something must be unique and must 'stand out' from other yachts - albiet it won the cup, this is something it clearly did not achieve. To be quite honest, even NZL-82 is more qualified to be labled here as "noteable" for its useage of design and rule bending.

I'm sure you and the other editors feel you are contributing to the article, but in fact you are altering history and giving prestige to a yacht that does not deserve to be in the same league as the other true noteable yachts. As a result of this, I would claim that you and the other editors are in effect in violation of the biggest crime on wikipedia - that of the reporting and maintaining of incorrect data. I hereby wish to lay a complaint against any of the editors who have violated my postings. Who can I send this to. --Conner5553 22:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Thomas Vonier[edit]

If you search Thomas Vonier in google, you can see most info about his M Arch is "University of Wisconsin", which is not University of Wisconsin-Madison, b/c Madison doesn't offer M Arch. It is actually University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as you know.Miaers 19:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

There is nothing to clarify. The University of Wisconsin was linked to University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee not Madison. A lot of people refer to UW-Milwaukee as University of Wisconsin. Miaers 19:22, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

UW-Madison[edit]

Just to let you know that the centers and extension in Wisconsin were part of the old University of Wisconsin. The current UW-Madison is also a part of the old University of Wisconsin. These instuituions were seperated after the UW System was created in 1971. The UW System is also refered to as UW. Adding a dash is to make a distinguishment. Please stop vandalising. Miaers 21:06, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Get a life, Miaers. There is a world outside of Wikipedia.. explore it and chew up some energy and time. Ommnomnomgulp 21:39, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
The context of the article is clearly the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and no one in their right mind calls the UW System "UW" and "UW" only. You're gonna have to find a hobby, Miaers, really, because I refuse to be your submissive soul. Ommnomnomgulp 21:37, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

You can look at University of Wisconsin System, which has a big UW seal and a dozen of other UW campuses. Miaers 21:47, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Yay! It's pretty. Thank you for pointing the seal out. Mmmm.. looks nice. Ommnomnomgulp 21:49, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Anyhow, look to the top of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. You will see that "UW" is clearly an acceptable way to refer to the university. Ommnomnomgulp 21:52, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

That's only for informal or inaccurate occassions. Miaers 21:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Miaers, some day, I'm going to have you draw me a map of your world. In any case, just because you say it's for informal or inaccurate associations, doesn't mean it is. People use UW all the time to refer to the school.. all .. the.. time.. Ommnomnomgulp 22:04, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Anywho, people also refer to the system as UW. Miaers 22:11, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

I know ...[edit]

Yea, I was out of town for the weekend, so imagine my surprise when I clicked on my watchlist. It's as though a nuke went off in his head and he just couldn't stop himself from anything. The good news is that it looks like other editors are involved and now there is an RfC somewhere about him. So, hopefully we will able to get some resolution to this matter. Notability of Ken Rockwell[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Ken Rockwell, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Ken Rockwell seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Image copyright problem with Image:Pecans Ready To Eat.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pecans Ready To Eat.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 04:58, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:AE-A-T-enmuseal.gif)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:AE-A-T-enmuseal.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. If you see anything that I missed, feel free to correct it and if you really want to thank me, you can give me one of those little wikipedia stars or something... : )

File copyright problem with File:QuincyILbridge.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:QuincyILbridge.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Skier Dude (talk) 23:38, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Information.svg Hello Ommnomnomgulp! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2,015 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Bryan Goebel - Find sources: "Bryan Goebel" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR · free images
  1. Laurie Davidson - Find sources: "Laurie Davidson" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR · free images

List of nuclear holocaust fiction[edit]

I put 2 back. With the Mad Max series, even though it may only be made clear later in the series (which I disagree with since in MMII you see the nukes in the background), it is still the same story and facts haven't changed - his wife is still dead, he's the ex cop with the V8 Interceptor, and by default it's the same world. With Book of Eli, do the characters have to use the word "nuclear" if it's otherwise apparent? I also added a reference. MartinezMD (talk) 09:55, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Ulithi[edit]

Well Ommnomnomgulp, I believe I am done adding information about the Ulithi atoll and it's role as a Naval base in WWII. I would love to get a good photo of the anchorage, with the hundreds of US ships laying at anchor there. There are a number of them on the web. They are all taken by Navy photographers and so are now in the public domain. That would really help to bring the image home of the remarkable thing that happened there. I have never loaded a photo onto the wiki system and it may take me some time to figure that out. Gunbirddriver (talk) 22:06, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:VinitaMCD Inside1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:VinitaMCD Inside1.jpg, which you've sourced to MadMaxMarchHare. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Speedy deletion nomination of Phil Mison[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Phil Mison requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Keystoneridin (speak) 02:43, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Phil mison part 2[edit]

Hello, I saw your message and as such have removed the speedy request for the time being. A word of advice- get rid of the facebook links and the myspace external links. They are both subjective and are usually self written so they may not meet notability requirements for use in a reference. Second- based on your previous work I would say you have knowledge of UW-Madison. I saw your years old comments and just wanted to add something. I grew up in WI so I know the vernacular. Residents of the state call the place "Madison,Madtown" the same way they call Eau Claire or La Crosse always dropping the "UW" part. However non residents usually refer to the school as Wisconsin. You can see from my user page that I am a badger fan. Anyways, back to the article. If you need help just respond on my talk page and I will do what I can. Take care!
